Title: W E S T E R N • D I A R I E S
Post by: GameBoyBlue on July 05, 2015, 05:14:14 am
XX15 July 5th

I've arrived in Sandbox.  A snug valley surrounded on all sides by cliffs. I hear I am to watch for natives which can be dangerous. Soon I will arrive in the frontier town of Chattel. There are plans to add a rail, and I am excited to be a part of this up and coming settlement.

XX15 July 5th, Entry 2

Tragic news. I've found the frontier town of Chattel, with no one in it. It has been entirely abandoned. I can only suspect hostile relations with the natives. I will set up in the store and plan my next endeavor, I can only hope new settlers will arrive, or survivors that can help explain what became of this once promising settlement. Despite this turn for the worse, I am somehow optimistic I am right where I need to be.

Look through the town, try to find anything useful that was abandoned.

Oh. I thought it was a suggestion game. So we just continue writing the story then?

Alright, the rules are kind of...not there at all, but here goes nothing!

XX1X (Month Worn out)

Finally, I can settle down! I ain't had a good life. I weren't no good man. I put all that behind me. Found a wife. Baby on the way. I found a place right behind this Sadnbox where nobody knows me. I can start over. Small place, but getting bigger.

I want to get a farm, or some other quite peacful thing. My wife thinks I should be the sheriff. Says nobody would suspect it. Says it would be a good way to redeem myself. Ain't sure I want to pick up my guns again, not a way to put this all behind me.

There are others, too. We came in a caravan. A few covered wagons, other families looking for their new lives. I don't talk to them. Not yet. They might know.

Hmm, rules you say? Ok, here's rule #1. No entries beyond XX## (Where ## is the current real world year) Current Day of the Current Month.

In other words, we'll say, no entries for the future.

XX15 July 5, entry 3

Its been a tedious and productive day. I've taken stock of supplies in the store. There seems to be plenty of food stuffs and tools for any endevour I should embark upon. Upon inspecting the homesteads, I have not found any traces of violence and distress. Everyone just upt and left.

The cliff walls of Sandbox form a faint bumpy frame upon the horizon on all sides. We share this shelter with natives, yet I am allured to these wild men. Will I regret that I do not head the warnings about them? An acceptable cost of living, I say.

For a reason I can't explain I expected Western Front for WWI. "Wild" west does make more sense for a decent story though.
edit: Except for the dates. "Wild west" as we know it (deserts, mountains, badlands, etc. meaning Nevada, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico) was properly settled after the civil war, and there really wouldn't be more there than a trapper cabin or ten in '15. Th Great War, however, was in full swing in '15, so maybe that wasn't so out of the blue.

No entries beyond XX## (Where ## is the current real world year) Current Day of the Current Month. In other words, we'll say, no entries for the future.
But past ('XX12, February 29' for example) is ok, right?

I chose XX15 because its 2015. I did no research into this.

Expect conditions romanticized in western novels, movies, and so forth, that is all. The year doesn't matter at all!

I think we are supposed to do past, as the future is blocked off. Probably best to consider it an alt history, granting much more freedom.

XX15 July 6th, night

Still no word from the missing persons of Chattel. I will take stock of perishables in the town tomorrow.

Not a quiet night.

XX15 July 7th

Wow it's hot. I've decided I'd rather just stick to the store. I may regret not gathering perishables from the homes today, yet I'd much rather not over work it and waste water.

Speaking of which I have not found the town well. What's going on here?

XX July 7th, night

As I lay here and think about the empty homes, there were no families. No dolls or toys. The missing people of Chattel seemed to bring no children when they settled, or they didn't make the journey.
