Title: D-FENCE!
Post by: Pwnage_Incarnate on March 27, 2008, 02:43:00 am
What sort of clever/sadistic/unfair traps have you guys built?  I'm not talking about a hall full of weapon traps, I'm talking about the really clever stuff, that takes some real engineering and planning.

A moat, a wall, a tower above some stairs down, a one-wide corridor filled with traps and floodgates at either end. In the tower are the barracks situated, to avoid sparring-noise and provide quick ground access. The plus side when building this, is that most of it is easily designed using [shift]+arrow keys.

code:

.=ground
=channel/empty space
#=wall
F=fortification
X=floodgate
B=bridge
^=trap
>=down stairs
<=up stairs

z=0

NOTE: this is only half: the centre down stairs is the centre point. It's the same on the other side,
but without the fortifications, floodgate and bridge.

NOTE: this is obviously located under the down stairs on z=0. The moat is actually two z-levels
deep, but it was too much of a hassle to type all of the '#'.

..wait, is "." ground, or "#", or both? Your key confuses me.

Looks like . is ground and # is wall, just mislabeled in the key.

What I'm wondering is, do you have the trade depot inside the inner bailey, or are you completely self-sufficient?

Whoops, my bad. It's already fixed. And the depot is inside of the inner walls, on the far side of the stairs. But I can be self-sufficient when I'm being sieged or just want to ignore traders.

I started to build an automated goblin smasher using a hallway full of bridges and a mechanical repeater, but I got bored with the fort before it was finished.

I was building a giant statue of a dwarf with a raised hammer right above the entrance, linked to a pressure plate in such a way that when stepped on the hammer would collapse and crush the offending critter.

I got bored before it finished, because it was taking forever to build and I never have enough dwarves to get sieges anyway.
