Title: The Accidental No-Point Hermit Challenge
Post by: Fenrir on January 18, 2008, 08:50:00 pm
I was trying a no-point challenge (using no points at the embark screen) when the frozen major river instantly unfroze underneath the wagon, six of the party, and a horse. The horse was the only survivor (he's still swimming around merrily). Let's see how long poor Onol Netrose can survive, shall we? Is there a certain population you must have for megabeasts and sieges?

Yessir! Same with moods; you don't have to worry about having to build all sorts of workshops just in case.

I've not a single piece of wood or stone. She's going to have to go without booze. Is there a limit to how slow a dwarf can work due to lack of booze, or will she eventually pass out or something?

It's a good thing she likes working outdoors.

Well, not really, you can always draft your dwarf and attempt to take on the fall caravan from the dwarves, if you get lucky your dwarf might survive long enough to kill them both and possibly claim some building materials or a weapon

Are elfish carvans guarded?

Yeah, but it's okay; they're guarded by elves.

If caravans are friendly, how can I get my dwarf to attack them?

A river that freezes and no booze... I'm predicting a problem sometime soon. Like, around winter...

You can't, I don't know what those people are talking about.

You can, however, seize goods from the caravan. Doing it enough to the humans will make them attack you (however you might need to have a certain amount of dwarves). The elves don't seem to care.

No trade screen to sieze from, however, since zero points means no stone or wood for a trade depot, unless there's some way he can salvage the sunken wagon.

If you do have 3 wood for a depot, you could sell your clothes.

... If you don't have a depot, consider trying to lure some deadly creature into the merchants.

That sounds like your best bet so far.

The merchants appeared on the other side of the river, and despite that half the map was terrifying, there were no terrible beasts. I got bored watching this dwarf just stand there, so I quit.

Aww...  :(  I was expecting a new "one dwarf against the world"...
