I was going to mine out the bottom of the river, then close the floodgate when the miner got by, to keep water pressure from flooding my fortress.
Well, the moment the miner broke the the rock, water burst forth, drowning him almost immediately, and sweeping away the Dwarf who was supposed to pull the lever. With nothing to stop it, the water flooded my whole fortress, drowned both miners, and stranded the rest of them.
I am NEVER making that mistake again. But hey, losing is fun, right?
