Title: Death by bath?
Post by: Quift on March 28, 2008, 09:02:00 am
So, i have finally finished my dwarwen bath and have run into some unexpected problems.

This is the layout.

Side view

........
OwwwwwwO
OOOOOOOO

x is grates, Sis a statue, ... is empty space, O is rock, and w is water.

the idea was to designate a statue hall in the top room, all the grates have been linked up to a pressure plate in a hallway so every once in a while the partying dwarfes would be dropped into the pool below filled with 4/7 water. There are ramps for them to get up.

The system works just fine except that the dwarfes seem to get hurt of the fall into the water, and they dont seem to get any cleaner. They do get dabbling swimmer, but I have mangaed to breake a few spines now so I wouldn't call that a success.

Would this work if the water was 7/7?

A one-level fall only stuns.  Why are you making them fall two levels?

For style effects off course. Also to have a separate bathroom with some nice statues, pillars etc.

Spinal cord injuries are very stylish.

The reason they probably aren't getting cleaner is because this thing keeps covering them in more blood and vomit. Their own blood and vomit.

yeah, but seriously, is it worth rebuilding it with 7/7 water? it would not really be an easy task since I would have to dig a searate entry into the main drain pipe, open the bottom drain which would mean my wells would stop working, build quite a few stairs, connect a lever to the floodgate only to drain the pool so that I can remove the pressure plate. Re set the pressure plate to 7/7 to keep the waterline in place, and ten reseal the whole thing nad refill it with water from the brook on the far end of the map, 12 storeys up.

Not to mention that I might kill even more kittens when I retry it later.

But yeah, I like that hunchback look

i found an easy way to teach swimming:

z level
bridge1 | bridge2 | bridge3 with down stairs | lever1 | lever2 |lever3

z-1 level
waterniveau4 |waterniveau4 |waterniveau4 with upstairs | walls ...

levers are conected to bridges with same number
1)a draft the dwarf put on bridge1
2) i open bridge2
3) i open bridge1
4) he swimms
5) to make him go out i just simpli open bridge3

to put water in it i used to fill a pond sone until i got the god deepth and then i stoped filling it
this way is not stylish but it works well

Parallel thread (minus spinal injuries) over in gameplay questions.

Success!

having the water at 7/7 made them not injure themselves in the fall.

and they get quite some experience aswell (and finally, its a fully automated system).

Combined swimmer/party interupter.

it does not however seem to clean them.. Since that was the initial goal of the project I dont quite know what to do next...

Correction, total failure. my legendary armorsmith just died in this device.

My most elaborate idea yet, and it kills the wrong people.
