quote:
"The Dishonest Kingdom"
Engraved on the wall is an exceptionally designed image of a dwarf and dwarves. The dwarf is surrounded by the dwarves.
Random and not as funny:
quote:
"The Leafy Fires of Trade" Engraved on the wall is an exceptional Datan Dumetakir rendition of a masterfully designed image of waves.
The Leafy Fires of Trade exists in at least 12 different spots in one fortress, and that masterfully designed image of waves has shown no evidence of having ever existed.
Another decent one:
quote:
"The Bearded Cruelty of Gloss"
Engraved on the wall is an exceptionally designed image of an elf and a muskox by Datan Dumetakir. The Muskox is striking down the elf.
EDITED spelling.

about as unusual as i get.

It's most likely your fortress symbol in that case. It can pretty much be anything, and it is completely independent of fort names.
Engraved on the wall is an exceptionally designed engraving of dwarves by Lokum Zasitbomrek. The dwarves are laboring.
Engraved here is an image of a cow and a goblin. The cow is striking down the goblin.
That's from my current fortress. Most heroic cow ever. Doesn't beat my favourite from another fortress long ago:
Engraved here is an image of a dwarf and a tentacle demon. The dwarf is embracing the tentacle demon.
I think the name tells you what Inod wanted to do to the elves, :D.

Wait, what?!
I don't remember the name, but I think it was "The crescent moon" (well atleast I know it included moon). Guess what it was engraving of. I'll post the name after few posts. It was engraved too much.

Does it beat embracing a tentacle demon?

That was my reaction.
I wish I'd known about the extra details you get when you come back and look at engravings in adventure mode, because I would have loved to know what the HELL that was about. Sadly that fortress has long been lost and its world deleted, its bizarre engravings gone forever.

Engraved on the wall is an exceptionally designed image of a dwarf and a turtle shell toy axe by Zuglar Ducimolon. The dwarf is raising the turtle shell toy axe.

One more thing: It will be a "Rendition of a masterful image of _" I think.
The best way to know your fortress symbol is to go there in adventure mode. that's when it'll tell you exactly.
EDIT: the symbols on your coins are actually your civilization symbols.

I don't have any booze engravings, but really... Syrup? o_O
You got Canadian Dwarves, eh?

The message is clear. The pointy-eared bastards have lived far too long.
Engraving of buckets.
"The Big Business of Guilt"
"... The dwarf is shooting the dwarf." (Some shady business here)
"The Grieving Seal"
"... The dwarf is raising the Iron warhammer." (club would have been funnier... sorry, old joke)
"The Visionary of Sensing"
"... The dwarf is dead." (hmm, this man was a visionary of sensing.. not so much)

You're just not getting it.
The engraver sees dead people.
An engraving of tentacle demons. Did he HAVE to put it in the dining room?!
"The Absolute cake"
An engraving of an animal trap. Apparently the cake is a lie.

*Vomits at first one*
*Ceases vomiting because nonexistent cake can't be vomited*
And that pretty much just continued for some hundreds of tiles across. Primarily dwarves crying, being rejected, or dying, mixed with a good amount of screaming camels.
I fired that engraver the next day on grounds of incompetence and suspicion of drug abuse. Our new engraver is much happier and draws pictures of trees, turtles, and flowers.

Okay, I just found one of the priesthood of Armok trying to recruit blood sacrifices. Dwarf surrounded by dwarves, "The Persuasive Strong Beards of Holiness".
EDIT: Got another one. It's the legend of how the civilisation's worst ever baker was exectuted. Also dwarf surrounded by dwarves, this one called "The Unspeakable Loaves".
And... "The Fragrance of Lepers." Dwarf in a fetal position.

Engraved on the wall is a superiorly designed image of a goblin by Ago Azstrogkutsmob. The goblin is falling.
This most likely relates to the death of my architect/mason after he removed an overhanging bridge from the wrong side, and plunged into the chasm beneath his feet. I have absolutely no idea why it was named this.
It was even placed in the entrance to my dining hall. "Today's special: Secretive Violent Breakfasts!"
????
some kind of dwarfen tongue twister

And somewhere in the symbol-choosing process, something went terribly, terribly wrong.
Wow, I thought at first: the quivers are attacking!
Examining it in legends mode gives no additional description except the name of dwarf: it's my mayor! And guess what? He likes quivers...

:D Nice
Egarnomes, "The Old Diversion"
Engraved on the wall is an exceptionally designed image of dwarves by Ilral Sitalkeskal. The dwarves are traveling.
The name doesn't translate well, it really means "we KNEW we shouldn't have taken that left turn at the haunted forest."
quote:
Gedorsemor, "The Evil Union"
Engraved on the wall is an exceptionally designed image of a dwarf and dwarves. The dwarf is surrounded by the dwarves.
I think my engraver's trying to tell me something.
Also, engravers have begun making renditions of an image of cabinets. They are making artistic homages to pictures of cabinets... I guess it's better than dwarves in fetal positions or whatnot.
Ah, good ol' Boatmurdered.
quote:
Idithmeb Laltur, "The Systemic Inch of Covering"
Engraved on the wall is an exceptionally designed image of shining suns by Ber Ilavuz.
I think Ber is trying to send me a message regarding the quantity of engravings I've had him do lately. Perhaps he'd like to go outside?
quote:
Thebil Salbul, "The Silkiness of Skins"
Engraved on the wall is an masterfully designed image of a dwarf by Ber Ilavuz. The dwarf is dead.
He's been watching The Silence of the Lambs? Elsewhere we have an image of a dwarf in a fetal position titled "The Glorious Fat." Something may be a bit off in Ber's mind at this point.
quote:
Kitigolom Lal, "The Busy Brunch of Blankets"
Engraved on the wall is a masterfully-designed image of humans and dwarves by Ber Ilavuz. The humans are speaking with the dwarves.
I do not recall a picnic occuring at any time in the history of Ageblazes, but maybe I missed it.
Ber is also a big fan of minotaurs, which are on the local coinage, so I guess that's the local symbol, and an image of two windows, which is perhaps the symbol of our civilization. I may need to let Ber focus more intently on supplementing my task-force of masons and let his apprentices take over. At the very least he'll get out more.
Now.
:D
quote:
"The Deviant Temptation"
Engraved on the wall is a masterfully designed image of a muskox by Rimtar ònulmonang. The muskox is in a fetal position.
I guess the allure of those muskoxen chained up outside of the fortress is getting to be a little too much for my engraver.
quote:
Rumadushul, "The Dull Realms" Engraved on the wall is a well-designed image of a dwarf and dwarvees by 'Strongwall' Stakuddeg. The dwarf is surrounded by the dwarves.
Apparently, he finds the mayor rather dull.

Poor muskoxen. T_T
You should copy your save, abandon, and look in adventure mode to see what it's about.

To my considerable irritation I could not find a way down the various cliffs and mountainsides in the area to actually get into my fortress and try to discern just what the heck Ber is on about with some of these. I'm definitely curious about the muskox one, as well, so let us know.
1) Hard: make temporary fortresses and dig channels to your fortress from plains. It looks ugly from map though.
2) Medium: return from world map to local map a lot of times, walking around. This way you may appear on the desired height (z-axis) to reach your fortress.
3) Easy: temporary mod the creature type of your adventurer to fly.

I worked out that I could reach the cliffs overlooking the fort, so I just dropped the copy of the fort I made before abandoning it back into the save directory and cut the man some stairs. This should probably suffice. ;p
