I neglected to assign any rooms to my Queen after she came, and she died as a miserable wreck. Now, for the past five years, the Dwarven race has been listed as "This land has no important leaders" on the civilization screen.
Am I going to get another King or Queen sometime, or am I doomed never to have a leader again? I did several searches and checked the wiki, but all came up blank on this issue.

Sorry, I couldn't come up with a rhyme of my own. :) So what you're saying is that when I get a champion in my fortress, that will be the new leader?

No, he's just singing a variation of "We are the champions" from the band "Queen".
You'll get another King or Queen in good time. They elect a new one somewhere else and then ship him/her over to your fort.

It's been nearly five years since I lost the Queen. Shouldn't somebody have realized another Queen bit the dust, or is my fortress keeping it a secret? I can imagine a "Weekend at Bernie Dodôkromlam's" situation whenever the Dwarven traders come.

Given how you treated the last one, I'd be a bit reluctant to announce my claim to the throne, too ;)
When the new one arrives, carve a throne for them out of the previous one's bones. Or at least make them sleep next to her grave.

Hmm, any idea how long it's supposed to take? It's been around five years, and my [c]ivilization still shows no important rulers. :(

Just a guess but maybe your Dwarf liaison is dead and so there is no one that can report it?
