Title: Dealing with Boredom

I know that it ruins any adventure mode stuff, but I find flooding a fortress after you kill all your dwarves to be the best way of action. I don't think I could abandon a fortress without most of the dwarves being dead... Dunno why...

Also, Super Cave-Ins are great.

I started in a terrifying ocean... I never once saw any creature in that ocean...

I'm confused.  Judging from your thread title it seems you want a question answered or to start a discussion.  However once I've read your post it just seems as if you are making some statement.

Uber death tower of fiery death and woe and death. And Death. So yeah, I make all my undesirables build a huge death chamber then kill themselves, I used to make a flood chamber but now am making bridges to drop them from. I have one recorded actually.

Big Ol' magma deaths.
Also, gigantic 20-level towers that either have magma, a chasm, an ocean, or a pit at the bottom. One time it was three at the same time!

I use it to get rid of baby animals.

i haven't done it yet but i've started on it, making a building hanging over a a volcano by bridge ,i'll fill it up with all who aren't worthy to work under my command or if i just get bored and maybe put a small pile of booze in there for more entertainment, then "disconnecting" the bridge and watching my creation fall in, then rinse and repeat.

Can't answer your question how to deal with boredom, never had it and never will, i can't even begin to understand boredom.

Maybe try and built the highest fortress possible. (dunno how high that is, 60 levels or so?)

then systematically destroy the only staircase up to it, after rigging the entire column of supports up to a single lever in the mayor/baron/king/whatever's throne room.

When the time comes, he'll know what to do.

(Bonus points if you post a video. Hell yes)

That makes me think of a fun Challenge game.

THE TOWER OF BABEL
Challenge: dig a pit down to the deepest z-level (you can do whatever you like aside from this main project, up to this point). Make sure it is fully ramp-accessible to the surface, so that anything can go right on down to the bottom of the pit from anywhere on the map. [recommended that you turn off immigration via init.txt until this is done]

Build as many supports as you like inside the pit, and on top of those supports, build a gargantuan tower. It must be supported ONLY by the removable supports -- you could have multiple access points via bridges as well (bridges do not support the base). As construction proceeds, move your fortress into the tower (ie. as soon as space permits). [if immigration was off, you have to turn it on full now]. You may dig anywhere out of the tower but you may not construct new buildings outside of the tower at this point. You have to tear down your old "support" buildings outside the tower as well, until finally all your fortress is inside the tower.

As soon as everything is in the tower (notable exceptions may include mining and woodcutting, and possibly farming unless you're hardcore), build a pressure plate in every base entrance. Link it to all the supports; have it respond to a featherlight touch by any noncitizen. [extra points if you also add "minefield" pressure plates outside the base, such as one directly centered under the tower amidst the supports]

See how long it takes before a kobold thief makes it into your base and brings it allllll crashing down.

I love your idea, except for the pressure plates. Imagine what that tower could do in a Goblin Siege...

Pressure plates linked to their closest doors, so that the enemy could never get on to the castle... and levers in the inside to get the doors back after your markdwarves and catapults clear the enemy...

Ah, but lag... this will probably have to be done on a non-aquafir forest or grassland map...

I can imagine 1 FPS with this.... Yay for slow processor.... I never have had any lag on another game but dwarf fortress... High Realism graphics, A OK, beautiful strategy games, A OK, MMO's, A OK... Dwarf Fortress.... LAG!!!!!!1

And yet, I cannot leave it alone...

I think the chance of it all coming crashing down is what makes it fun, but just building a tower would be cool too.
