By Christmas Eve, it's supposed to be back up to 75F.I suppose that's pretty good by US standards... at least you aren't gonna spend Christmas freezing your proverbial off. :)
It's been disgustingly mild in the UK. And wet. Very wet.
Last winter I lived near the Canadian border in the US and it got really cold in the winter (-55 degrees F [about -48 C) windchill anyone?). Now I live in the American south and, despite it being January, I have yet to put on a coat. As of right now, it's POSITIVE 36.5 degrees F (2.5 C).
Not much to report here. None of the flooding affected me, fortunately.I still have a theory that Canadians are just wendigos posing in the skins of all the various settlers who froze to death. They send inviting videos of Vancouver and Montreal to lure their dinner to come visit.Last winter I lived near the Canadian border in the US and it got really cold in the winter (-55 degrees F [about -48 C) windchill anyone?). The record low in my home state is -40F. You're not a leopard seal, are you?
That raises some terrifying questions regarding what canadian maple syrup is actually made of.

I was thinking more along the lines of processed human blood. Y'know, from the humans that got replaced.
I was thinking more along the lines of processed human blood. Y'know, from the humans that got replaced.Naaah... from what I understand human blood (blood in general, really) doesn't take too well to preservation and whatnot. The processed blood would be used fairly quickly for... whatever reason. Presumably lubricant, given the previous supposition.
This is a thread for the discussion and appreciation of weather around the world. And I see this just as things (as I see noted further down the thread) have calmed down around here. Not that they were locally as bad as neighbouring areas. A few threats of rain, tomorrow, but only threats.
be sure to make a note if you are using some weird other unit so as to avoid confusion.Tomorrow's (now today's) top temperature is predicted to be around 145°De, with a night-time minimum closer to 147°De, in case anyone cares. I'll let you do the conversion. ;)
The heck are °De?
Heh.North Carolina. Where forecasts of an inch of snow leads to mass runs on milk and bread.
Yeah.
Where are you, anyway?
Gale force winds and apparently a couple tornado touch downs already, here in florida, ha. Breezy weekend. No snow, obviously, as you northerners could tell by the lack of winged flying pigs, frozen hellfire blizzards, or notable uptick in demon tourism.
TWO FEETHeh.North Carolina. Where forecasts of an inch of snow leads to mass runs on milk and bread.
Yeah.

A foot of snow would probably lead to pre-emptive cannibalism.

TRAPPED IN APARTMENT
AAAHH
Looking at the forecast, it ought to start snowing around midnight. Still no idea on how much is getting dropped.A lot.
Was about to go outside to finish un-digging a hole, but decided against it since it is raining fairly heavily here.Solution*: Leave the hole unundug. When it's not raining, swim in it (or, at worst, use it as a mud wallow).
I can't hear it from the room I'm staying in. From what I'm told it rains quite a lot here- this is on a mountain in Northern NSW.
Quite nice to look at, I suppose. Not exactly my preferred hole diggin/un-digging weather, though. I guess I'll take my work pants off, chuck on my tracksuit pants (or sweatpants, for you foreigners) and go back to lazing about instead.
For the last few months, winter's been taunting us with glimpses of spring - THEN DUMPING A FEW INCHES OF SNOW ON US, WITH GALES AND BELOW ZERO TEMPS. To hell with winter, it's not even giving me snow that I can sled in, just dirty clumps.I know, right? Weather's bipolar...
(pun not intended)
(hell with winter: hell freezing over get it?)
Welcome to polar vortexes, a consequence of anthropocentric climate change. This is our normal now.
Welcome to polar vortexes, a consequence of anthropocentric climate change. This is our normal now.Uh, I think this is due to the ENSO cycle flipping negative if anything, and the warmth spurt washed up from the gulf, this has nothing to do with climate change. Just drunk weather.
There was also RedKings weather thread though. This popped up in my head (besides missing RedKing's thread) but I was also wondering if this was just a "if weird winter weather==polar vortex!" type of reaction or what. The polar vortex is just a name for the low pressure systems at the poles, weaker or distrupted behavior of this system can lead to "drips" of cool air down across the middle latitudes which lead to the initial "IT'S THE POLAR VORTEX STRIKING BACK" type of stories over the last few years, but from what I can find there are no stories linking this blob of warm air to the polar vortex, or even really discussing it.Welcome to polar vortexes, a consequence of anthropocentric climate change. This is our normal now.
Do we know how common it did this in the past though? Just good to have a benchmark to work from to see if this is different from normal.
Went from -8 C (17 F) to 17 C (62 F) over the last couple of weeks, what the hell, Memphis?Try ~20 to 60 F in a day...
In New York it went from 30 to 70, and now it's dropping to snow temperatures. Also snow.Went from -8 C (17 F) to 17 C (62 F) over the last couple of weeks, what the hell, Memphis?Try ~20 to 60 F in a day...

...Exactly. Dunno if the snow's gonna be a thing where I am though. In New York it went from 30 to 70, and now it's dropping to snow temperatures. Also snow.Went from -8 C (17 F) to 17 C (62 F) over the last couple of weeks, what the hell, Memphis?Try ~20 to 60 F in a day...
We got snow a couple times here in Memphis, last night it dropped down to 0 C, and it hit 17 C earlier today. Thought it was getting a bit warm and then I heard the little "clunk" from the AC when the compressor hits temperatures where it will run, so, weee, february ac!and i'm sitting here, no snow...
So, tornado touched down nearby about a half hour ago. That was fun.c-r-e-e-p-y
