Title: I demand Pig Iron items!

Rovod Ifinsazir, Baroness Consort, raged in her room as the craftsdwarves explained to her that her demands were impossible and unreasonable to the extreme. "My lady, we cannot make items of Pig Iron! Not only is it impractical, but it's impossible. It's far too crude to mold into anything even remotely resembling craftsdwarfship and..."

But she'd have none of it. After a few weeks, most of the craftsdwarves were either detained indefinitely or enjoying a surprisingly pleasant breeze upon their necks. After a few months, the dwarves of Thunderlabor have had enough, and decided to finally make her a crown of Pig Iron. The type that won't come off without a cleaver and lots and lots of bandages.

So, in other words, my Baroness Consort has just mandated the construction of Pig Iron items. Now, as far as I know, this is impossible. What to do? I don't even have any flux to work with, but I do have magma and lots of wood to burn.

Since I largely ignore mandates unless they are convenient, I probably have no place suggesting: but if you can't get pig iron out of your mountain, you'll just have to wait for traders, I guess.

Oh, well, I do have some pig iron bars, actually. But the mandate is to make Pig Iron items. I mean, is that even possible?

you need a smelter and flux material. 'make pig iron' mandates are solved by smelting pig iron bars, or smelting steel. if your not on a flux-rich map then its going to get very anoying quickly. make sure to ask for marble and other flux stones whenever you can.

You know the funny thing? I don't think the dwarfs I import from have any flux either....

Keep killing your nobles until you get a bunch who like what you're already making.

Well, you could just keep her so ridiculously happy that she doesn't mind having her demands ignored. Or set to making pig iron and steel bars. I've never made either one.

No matter how happy she is, a random dwarf is going to get beaten or worse.

Smelting pig iron from iron does count as pig iron items, but if you have neither iron nor flux you are SOL.

Unless you lack any fortress guards or sherifs to do it.

Harder to avoid hammerings but those are rare anyway.

AFAIK mandates for production can be filled by simply making something out of the material specified. Pig iron is among the easiest because you can just turn it into steel. It has no other use.

Demands on the other hand are different.

A dwarf in my fort made a legendary Pig Iron coffer. >.<
