Title: Glass with no sand?
Post by: Ryo on May 30, 2008, 03:01:00 pm
I think I already know the answer to this question, but hopefully I'm wrong...
There's no sand on my map (Apart from sandy clay, but that doesn't work), but is there ANY way I can still make glass? I have a legendary glassmaker, and it just seems like such a waste...

Sorry, but no sorry. There's a rumour about the ability to make windows out of gems if you have glass, but
a) sandy loam and loamy sand aren't sand,
b) no sand = no glass.

All you can do is hope you find rock crystal in your mines, which can be turned into crystal glass.

if you go into the raw file for soul types you can add the SOIL SAND tag to every type of soil. That way you can get sand wherever you want to, even from the bottom of the ocean if you get that far.

Problem is it requires generating a new world.

Wait? I thought you could just add SOIL SAND anytime you wanted, no regen required?

Just checked, you definitely don't need to regen a world when adding the soil_sand tag. Just need to save, quit out of DF then reload DF.

Thats changed... It never worked for me. Do aquifers behave the same way?
