Title: Deep Infirmary: The boning begins again
Post by: piecewise on January 08, 2016, 03:14:17 pm
*Static*
THE FOLLOWING VIDEO HAS BEEN PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO UNDERTAKE THE DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY REWARDING TASK OF CLEANING UP THE DEEP INFIRMARY SECTIONS AFTER THE RECENT DEPARTURE OF THE DOCTOR. BY WATCHING THIS VIDEO YOU ARE GIVING LEGAL CONSENT TO ALL THE PROVISIONS IN SECTION A OF THE DEEP INFIRMARY EXPLORATION CHARTER. ALL CONTENT IS CREATED AND FUNDED BY THE INFIRMARY ASSISTANT LONGEVITY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM, AND SHALL NOT BE USED IN PART OR WHOLE WITHOUT THE PERMISSION THE CREATORS.

HELLO! We here at the infirmary hear that you former prisoners would like the chance to make some money while on ship. And as luck should have it, we have the perfect opportunity for you! When the honorable Doctor left for work on other worlds, he left behind his extensive medical compound, a section known as the "Deep Infirmary". It is...well rather a lot larger than it should be. Both in terms of what is shown on our blueprints and what should be physically possible. Due to recent problems with reality, along with just a general lack of upkeep, the deep infirmary has fallen into a dangerous state of disrepair. As such, we need brave volunteers to go into this area and salvage what they can. Specifically, we are looking for information left behind by the Doctor himself.  These notes may be found on data pads such as this one. If found, please return it to us. These, along with anything else of particular value may be returned to us for tokens. However, please do not bring us unlabeled syringes, surplus mechanical parts, or any other such...junk. We have no need for them and you will not be paid for them. You may, however, keep them for yourselves, if you wish.

Oh and, we would recommend against reading the Doctor's notes. Doing so may have beneficial side effects, but it will also render them valueless and may result in mental trauma.

May also result in subsequent assassination.

Now, the Deep infirmary may be entered via these tramways, which you should see directly in front of you following your mandatory viewing of this video.  We are sending only 5 at a time, and only those who  have had less than 2 level ups worth of experience. Because Steve doesn't, and this is a quote, "Want to waste any useful soldiers on another myopic boondoggle". So we will not be providing assistance, or rescue or weaponry or aid of any sort! Once you have entered the Deep Infirmary, your life is entirely in your hands! You must return to the tramway, or find another tramway stop in order to escape.

Now, if you still would like to go in, please find a place on the tram. If not, please exit through the rear of this room. If the tram has already departed, please wait for the current explorers to return or die.  Thank you, and good luck!

THE TRAM IS: HERE

As Trier boarded the tram, he was suddenly struck with the bizarre thought that this place was now just like a normal train. He shook his head in an attempt to banish the idea. “Come on,” he muttered to himself “I’ve only been awake for a hour at most. I can’t go crazy yet”.

Board the tram and wait

So only 2 people have posted to actually get on the tram. Someone else posted in the on ship thread to join in but hasn't actually posted here, and Biggerfish posted here but not an actual action of getting on the tram.

In any case, The ones I consider to be going are Zormod, Biggerfish, Maegil, and midnight jaguar. If you for some reason didn't want to go, say so quickly.

The doors to the tram slowly slide shut with a hydraulic hiss. An automated voice begins speaking, rattling off safety warnings in a tinny voice.

"Please keep all limbs within the tram at all times. Please do not attempt to modify the tram controls. Please do not fire weapons aboard the tram..."

The tram hums, a noise that grows louder and louder until there is a great crack of electrical discharge.  Then the tram begins to move, gliding forward soundlessly into the dark tunnel ahead of it.

"Please do not use flashlights or flash photography in the tunnel as it may result in fatal spatial distortion."

The tram accelerates steadily, the force of it pushing you toward the back of the train car. This goes on for several minutes before it levels out and you can no longer feel the movement. It's odd now, the train must be moving at incredible speed but there's no bumping or noise to let you know it. It's almost as though it's sitting perfectly still.  Out of nowhere there's a feeling of weightlessness, as though the train as plunged off its rails and is falling down a pit. There's only darkness outside and the dimly lit cabin shows no signs of change, despite your inner ear screaming that you're tumbling end over end. Then, as suddenly as it started, it ends, and you can see light at the end of the tunnel.

The tram pulls out into a nearly identical station to the one you just left. The doors open.

"This tram will await your return. If you find another tram terminal, please activate it via the "Call tram" button on the left wall and wait for the tram to arrive. We hope you've had a pleasant journey!" The automated voice cuts off with an audible click.

You're in a relatively small room, just large enough to hold your section of the tram, as well as a small waiting area with metal benches. It is well lit and clean but incredibly stark and bare. The place has two exits, one to the left, and the other straight ahead. Both are closed off with ordinary automatic sliding doors. There are safety posters up on the walls, all telling of various hazards, from drinking lab chemicals to sticking your hands into machinery.

There is a metallic smell in the air.

“I second that notion.” Trier said as he ran his hands over his gauss rifle in the hope that the overcharge button would be in the same place as it was on his previous service weapon. Finishing that search, he asked the motley group around him, “So, what do you think, left door or center door?”

Look for overcharge and undercharge buttons on the gauss rifle.

“Center works for me.”
Open the center door and see what horrors come screaming out.

The center door slides open as you approach it and leads out onto a short hallway. The hallway is nondescript, just a boring white tile floor and gray metal walls with strips of light cord embedded in the ceiling. It's bright, sterile and dull. There are two exits to this hall, one is a door set into the right side of the hall about halfway down, the other is a door at the end of the hall. Both are identical in design, though the one set into the right side of the hall has a red strip of plastic laying near it.

Walk over to the red plastic and examine it using my various vision modes. After that, open the door to the right.
The plastic appears to be normal plastic from all vision modes. It's a thin piece of plastic film, bright red, slightly springy and stretchy, something like plastic wrap.  There's part of a bit of writing on it. What looks like a "D" and then part of an "A".

You walk up to the automatic door on the right and it opens with a hiss. Rather then opening onto a room it opens onto a sheet of plastic that covers the entire doorway. It seems to be hermetically sealed, air tight. Most of the sheet is a cloudy clear plastic, like frosted glass, but it has horizontal stripes of red running through it with the words "DANGER: QUARANTINE" printed on them.  Through the clouded plastic you can see a large mound of black objects, but you can't make out exactly what they are.

Attempt to see through the plastic with X-ray mode.

With your x-ray mode you can see into the room and the pile of black objects. The appear to be body bags,  because they are filled with skeletons. Or at least you see skeletons inside them. X-rays and all.

"Hmmm. Well, we are all wearing suits right? So, we should be safe from any pathogens."

Break through the plastic if everyones wearing suits. If not move to the next door.
You tear open the plastic with your hands, ripping a hole through the seal. Inside the room, which is about the size of a large closet, is a hastily made pile of body bags. They appear to have been just thrown in and sealed with little consideration to dignity.

I'm wearing mine.
Change pimpcane into a sharp stick, and start poking the bags. Hope something doesn't try to poke back.
You morph the cane into a great big stabbing stick and jab it into one of the bags. It punctures it with relative ease and elicits a puff of gray powder from the hole. There's also a slight hiss of escaping pressure.

No data pads, not in the room nor on the exterior of the body bags. Unless of course you want to tear into the bags or unzip them.  So far someone's stabbed them, but that would only let you dig in a bit to one of them.

Still on the tram, Arty shakes himself out of his lethargy and goes in search of the others. Seeing movement beyond a place marked as quarantined, he heads there.
"Sigh. Guys, you're aware that once this area was violated we can't return without going through a bio-decontamination shower, right? Anyway, I have a medical monitoring program installed, if you let me access your biometric feeds I can keep track of your vital signs."
Try to connect to the team's data. Examine the body in the open bag, try to determine cause of death.

There's not enough free space in this room to lay them all out so you just grab one and lay it out. A quick search with x-ray shows nothing but the skeleton.  You open the body bag and find an another shrink wrap seal inside it, around what appears to be a very burnt skeleton and a good deal of ash.

You're guessing that whatever killed these things, the cause is gonna a bit obscured by the fact that someone burnt them to a literal crisp.

"Mmmm... Not much to see here, they tried to destroy the agent with fire?... Why not completely incinerate the bodies instead of bagging them, that would have been both neater and more certain. I gather you've already looked about for the data?" See if there are no notes behind the furniture, taped to the underside of drawers, and other such hiding places. Also keep an eye out for surgical instruments or medical implements of any kind, Arty might be able to derive some information on what happened from the type of equipment around. Grab any usable portable equipment and stash it in the backpack. If there's a gurney about, take it, putting available heavier equipment on it.

Well there's no furniture in here...it's just an empty room stacked with bodies, so no. There's really nothing in here but bodies. And sometimes thats just gonna be the case. Not every room will be particularly meaningful or stuffed with goodies, hidden or otherwise.

"Man, this is now exactly like that sod incident."
On to the room down the hall.
Follow Jaguar into the next room
The next room, the one at the end of the hall, is fairly small as well, only about the size of a walk in closet, though it has two exits, one on the left wall and one on the right. In the center of the room is what looks like a par of iron boots, but split in half. They look like some strange sort of bear trap, clearly designed to close around the feet of whoever steps into them and hold that person still. Though for what purpose, you're not really sure. The entire room is tiled with thick, heavy looking white tiles that, judging by their appearance, are almost brand new. Between these tiles are what look like small metal pipes, or maybe nozzles, that jut out a few inches into the room. Around the corners of the room, collecting on the edges and in between the tiles of the floor, is a fine gray powder.

Follow.  Check for computers.
No sign of any computers yet.

““Hmm,”” Tire mused, ““grey powder in the corners of the room and grey powder on the bodies.”” Suddenly struck by a horrible realization, he quickly radioed the rest of the team.  “Hey guys, I’m pretty sure that whatever it was that killed those people came from these nozzles.” Having now performed his civic duty as a doctor and warned the public of any risk factors in the environment, he threw open the left door and dived in as Zaek placed his counterfeit boots in the trap.

Open left door and enter the room

You two decide that perhaps it is best not to be in this room and instead exit out the left door. The door leads to a hallway, 3 doors on the left, one at the end. Sitting in the hallway is a metal cart, the kind which holds medicine and surgical tools in an operating room. The drawers of the cart have been removed and are laying haphazardly around the room, along with dozens of scalpels, forceps, clamps, rolls of gauze, unopened sterile needles, and bags of saline.

The first door on the left appears to be frosted over with a thin layer of ice but the two doors next to it are unremarkable, at least from what you can see.

Arty will follow the team and look around the room, crouching to examine dust. "I wish I had something to safely take a sample... If you have to pin someone to a spot like that, you can bet it's not something you want on, or in, you. Be careful with that, guys."
Prepare the weapon and open the door in the right. If mayhem does not ensue, go in and examine the room.

You walk through the right door. It opens onto a hall with two doors to the right and one at the end. But you can see from here that the one at the end isn't the actual end of the hall, it's just a door set into the wall. The hallway turns sharply to the left and continues into unseen territory.
"I'm poking that trap."
Morph Pimpcane into boot shape, poke trap.
[5]
You expertly recreate a boot with your pimp cane and stick it right into the shoe-beartrap thing.  The beartrap slams shut with surprising force, the high pitched ringing of the two metal halves slamming together echoes briefly around the room. All the doors into this room slam shut and lock with audible hydraulic hissing, and the nozzles extend an extra few inches out from the wall. There's the sound of rushing air, of gas being pumped rapidly into the room.

Dropping into a stabilizing crouch, he keeps the weapon ready while listening for movement on the rooms along the corridor. He keeps in mind that the guy with the cane may have been transformed into some aberration like those he saw on the files, and he might have to kill him.
If there are no sounds from the rooms, he'll open the first one; if there is something in one he'll open the other; if both seem to have occupants, he'll stay put, alert, and silent, while waiting for the doors to open, as the other guy also might be actually OK.

You might want to keep an eye on my biosigns for a while. A gas is being pumped into this room, and I doubt its effects on me will be positive.
I am alone in here, and I think that you will need to wait a few moments before trying to open the door. They are currently locked, and will likely stay that way until the process is complete.

Examine some of that gray powder while I wait.
On closer inspection, it appears to be a very fine ash.

Oh.

Grab a knifey thing.  Just in case.
You pick up the biggest scalpel you can find.  Not exactly the most deadly of weapons but...well...probably better than nothing. You can give something a wicked... minor laceration.

Check the cart's drawers and then try to break through the iced up door.
The cart's drawers have very little left in them; most of it was sprayed around the room when they were pulled out. It's more of the same, general medical tools and supplies. Nothing interesting.

You walk over to the iced over door and it tries to open on it's own.  You can hear the concealed electric motor humming and straining somewhere in the wall.  You look the door over for a few seconds and then start breaking the ice up with the butt of your rifle. After you knock a few good chunks out of the ice around the edge of the door, the motor seems to get some traction and the door grinds open, shedding chunks of ice as it does.

The room inside is fairly small, and as far as you can see completely empty, save for a single thing sitting in one corner. It looks like a ball of ice; Though it's kind of...strange looking. Lumpy with creases and furrows in it.

"Damn! There goes stealth, and I'm all alone... " Arty thinks to himself. he steps away from the door from which he came.
Dropping into a stabilizing crouch, he keeps the weapon ready while listening for movement on the rooms along the corridor. He keeps in mind that the guy with the cane may have been transformed into some aberration like those he saw on the files, and he might have to kill him.

You carefully crouch walk over to the first door and listen. It's silent. You stand up so the door's sensor will see you and the door slides open. Inside is what appears to be a storage room of some kind; On one wall is a large metal shelving unit with five shelves. Each shelf is occupied by about a dozen objects, each the size of about two fists placed side to side. The objects are robots by the look of them, with two sectioned, peanut shaped metal bodies. Sticking out of one end of the things is a long, multi-sectioned conical appendage that ends in a metallic nub. The nub has many small holes in it, and appears to be a sniffer of some kind; a sensor designed to pull in air and examine the particulate within it. Attached to the back of this little robot is a miniature flame thrower, with the tell tale igniter positioned right in front of the liquid nozzle.

Along the back wall, perpendicular to the shelf, is a desk with a computer. Cables run from the computer up into a large black box that is affixed to the side of the shelving unit. Some kind of maintenance station, perhaps? Or simply the programming interface? Who can say.

Lock the door; keep an ear out for what's going on outside. If someone calls for Arty, answer.
Make a cursory search on the computer for logs. See if I can understand what kind of program is connected to the shelves, and if there is a control interface. Upload a backup to the cloud or save a compressed version on the wrist pad. Take a couple of the robots and put them in the backpack; if I can assign them to do my bidding, activate a third.

Look over the ball of ice with my vision modes and then pick it up.
You flip through your vision modes. Thermal shows that it's cold, big surprise.  X-ray shows not a whole lot; whatever it is it's dense enough to prevent you from getting a good look inside it. Motion tracking and infrared don't really help either.

You shrug and take a step into the room to pick up the ball. You don't really see what happens next; you catch a blurred glimpse of the ball unfolding, each furrow widening into a gap as tentacles curl out away from the lopsided octopoid head. A tentacle lashes out, like a striking cobra, and punctures you right through the left bicep. Another slashes across the  room in an arc, and the razor tip of it catches you straight in the chest and carves  a gash through your ribcage, just below the sternum. It misses your heart and only punctures one lung but, leaves you with a great sucking chest wound.  You manage, despite your injuries, to leap back and punch the door close button before stumbling slumping down against the wall opposite the door. Despite the severity of the injuries, you're bleeding very little. The blood, and indeed the flesh immediately around the wound, appears to have frozen.

Morph pimpcane into pimpcane.
Quote from: Zek'thal to:Team
The gray powder is ash. I do not regret this occurrence.
You return the pimp cane to pimp cane form.

There's a sort of click, a metallic "CTICK", and you see a small spark leap between the metal boots.  The flame is triggers cascades off the boots and rolls across the ground like a ripple in a pond, spreading out in all directions. It coats the ground in a fraction of a second, crawling across your feet and legs as it burns the heavier than air gas that has settled to the ground. When it reaches the walls of the chamber, it climbs and then it catches the gas that is still mixed into the normal atmosphere. And the room ignites.

"What do you have over there, anyway?"
You see Trier step into the room and then stumble back a few seconds later, a great crescent gash in his chest. He stumbles and collapses, sliding heavily down the wall and landing in a sitting position, his chest heaving rapidly. You run over to help him and just as you're about to examine the wound, the hall shakes violently. The door leading back the way you came, the one that slammed shut behind you and separated you from the other half of your team, explodes open, and a wall of flame and smoke rolls down the hall. The fire dies before it reaches you but the shockwave knocks you flat on your back and the entire hallway becomes  a blind haze of black smoke. Your ears are ringing and everything sounds distant and muffled, as though you're underwater.

Lock the door; keep an ear out for what's going on outside. If someone calls for Arty, answer.

You close the door and you're just sitting down at the terminal when something explodes very near by. The entire room shakes; you have to brace yourself on the desk to stop from falling out of your chair and the shelf of robots swings back and forth uneasily, threatening to fall. You get up and catch it, pushing it back against the wall before it falls on you.

What the hell was that?

If he's still alive, look at the vital signs for indications of a pneumothorax or a cardiac tamponade; see if there's anything I can do for him; if not, and Zek isn't completely crushed (as opposed to having just a few broken ribs or a flail chest), try increasing the O2 level in his suit and a cardiac massage - it might be futile, but it still has a chance of working.

Keep the weapon at hand at all times.

You stuff a few robots into your bag and open the door. Smoke floods into the room, and you step out into the hall, waving your hands to try and clear some of the haze. You fumble your way back down the hall. You stub your toe against something and squint to see what it is; it's the upper half of a door, along with most of one of your teammates. His suit seems to have taken the heat of the explosion quite well, but the force of it was something else. One of his legs is gone about halfway up the shin, the other is broken in a few places and he seems to have been knocked out cold. His vital signs are sporadic, probably internal bleeding, maybe lung hemorrhaging.

"Hey… Mycroft… I have an Idea…" Here Trier trailed off and gasped for air. Recovering he continued "It involves you giving me that can of medifoam you have and me not dying. Also, I guess you were right there are a lot of sharp things here." At this he once again trailed off weakly laughing and continued his desperate struggle to breath.

You spray some Medifoam into the puncture hole in your arm and the great gash in your chest. It burns, it burns so fucking much. You pound your fist against the ground and scream as best you can with one lung. Eventually, days later if your mental reckoning is correct, it finishes expanding and hardens up. You can't breathe that well, but you can at least suck a breath in without it oozing out through your chest in bloody bubbles. There's no pain killers in the hall, but you bandage up the injuries as best you can with Mycroft's help.

Arty quickly assesses Zak's situation: lacking coagulant boosters or even splints, there isn't much he can do for Zek without removing his suit - which, given the previous activities with quarantined corpses, might be worse than simply letting him die temporarily. For now, Arty decides to use his backpack's strap as a makeshift tourniquet on the missing leg, tightening it with the pimp cane.
Finally, he takes the weapon and leaves to look for the others to continue the triage. Finding Mycroft, Arty says "Mycroft, it's good to see you in one piece. Where's Trier? Did you see any medical supplies? Zek urgently needs coagulant boosters, or he might not last long; splints, plasma and a strong aerosol disinfectant would also be nice."

"Right, just put a layer of foam on the stump and loosen the tourniquet. I'll be back soon."
Arty goes to the next room. Smiling wanly at Trier, he says "Trier, you look like shit, man. Did you fix yourself up? Let me check those..."
Check Trier. "Looks good enough for now. I need some supplies, Zak's in a bad shape." Scavenge for supplies, grabbing anything that might look useful, specially look for the items listed above. If some coagulant booster is found, immediately go back to Zak and use it.

Trier attempts to get up and head for another room. Mycroft grabs his arm and starts making a very strong argument for leaving. Trier yanks his arm away, grumbling something about finding loot.  As he pulls his arm free, something inside him shifts rather unpleasently and he spends the next minute or so leaning against the wall and coughing blood up inside his helmet. Mycroft stands there, staring for a few seconds before hurrying away to help with the other injured man.

Try to wake up.
You  wake up with a start, try to sit up and then immediately regret it as your injuries make themselves known.

You get Zak stabilized and have Mycroft take care of the rest. You stop to talk to Trier for a moment before looking around a the scattered contents of the medical card. There's not a lot, but at least some gauze and bandages will help. You also  grab a long metal probe from the cart to use as a splint.

You return to Zak and finish bandaging him and setting his leg as best you can. It's not perfect, but he won't bleed out in the near future, which is more than you could say a few minutes ago.

Trier recovering from his coughing fit groaned before speaking "Hey! Zaek I have a way to get the bastard that did this to me and it might net us some profit. Okay so behind that iced up door, there is an incredibly fast and pissed off razor octopus. I need you to take that pimp cane of yours and make a wall over the entrance. Then when I hit the button that opens the door you will slowly move your pimp-wall into the room so that it can’t slip out and slowly contract it into a sphere around the thing thus trapping so that we can either kill it or give it to R&D. While all this is happening, Dr. Arty and I will be standing with guns trained on the door to kill it if it does somehow slip around. So what do you say? Want to help a fellow ARM member out?"

Check my chest does it feel like I’m internally hemorrhaging or has it stopped? Regardless move to the side of the wall facing the door and wait for Zaek to do his thing.

Arty helps Zek to a wall near the door, and uses his backpack as a reclining pillow.

Look for, and give him his other leg. Crouch into a stabilizing posture and poise the weapon.

Check my limbs. How hurt are they?
Move toward the hallway Trier is in, using the pimpcane as a cane. When I get there, morph cane to encase the creature.

Well lets see, you're missing one leg and the other is broken. So thats an end roll, even with a cane.
[6] Well then.
You practically spring up onto that one leg and limp over to where Trier is.

Now, you got this action to "Encase the creature"  However, if you guys go and reread the action where he gets injured, you'll see that Trier closes the door  as he falls back into the hall, effectively containing the creature. Doing your action would require opening that door. I'm pointing this out in case it wasn't clear. If you'd still like to do it, go ahead.

You're...well you have a lung with a great big tear in it so coughing up blood, while not great is kinda to be expected. Still, best to move nice and carefully, limit any strain on the injury or the foam holding it closed.

"I'm up for that plan. I'll need someone to lean on, though."
Move toward the hallway Trier is in, using the pimpcane as a cane.
"Here, let me help you... No, don't try to stand, really, don't. You've one leg left, and it's broken into several bits; at the very least I guarantee you'll fail, you'll probably also make it worse and end up fainting from the pain."
Arty helps Zek to a wall near the door, and uses his backpack as a reclining pillow.
"That should leave you somewhat more comfortable. Sorry for the lumpiness, I got a few little robots in there."
Look for, and give him his other leg. Crouch into a stabilizing posture and poise the weapon.
You help get him set up near the door before going back to look for the other leg. You find....pieces of it. But unfortunately most of it has either been vaporized or reduced to the consistency of sloppy joe meat.

Arty shakes his head, saying: "sorry, Zek, I went to look for your leg, but there's not enough of it left to reimplant."
If the others continue with the plan, he'll fetch a piece of the door to use as a shield, stand by Zek, away from the door, crouching into a stabilizing posture and readying the weapon in the "diffuse" shotgun setting.
If not, ask Zek: "right, can you turn the cane into a gurney, or at least a stretcher... Or do you intend to pogo stick around?"

Have a sturdy object between my vital bits and the door, if he can't be stopped by rational argument.  Have the medifoam ready in either case.

"Alright Zek, just to refresh everyones memory first you make a Pimpwall in front of the door before I open the door, it slides open so it should not be a problem. Then, when I open the door, you slowly move this wall forward gradually contracting it around the razor octopus until its trapped inside a sphere. Dr Arty and I will be kneeling near the door with guns trained ready to kill it if anything goes wrong."

Take my position by the door. Open it when everyone is in position and Zek has his pimpwall formed.

You grab the nearest chunk of door and drag it over, propping it up against the wall. You crouch down behind it, peeking out just enough so that you can aim your weapon at the door.

Have a sturdy object between my vital bits and the door, if he can't be stopped by rational argument.  Have the medifoam ready in either case.

"You are MISSING A LEG, someone's ALMOST DIED TO THAT THING ALREADY, and YOU WANT TO CATCH IT?!  ARGH!  On your own head be it!"

You crouch down  behind the door your teammate very thoughtfully dragged over. You hope it is robust enough to stop whatever they're going to let out.

"Alright Zek, just to refresh everyones memory first you make a Pimpwall in front of the door before I open the door, it slides open so it should not be a problem. Take my position by the door. Open it when everyone is in position and Zek has his pimpwall formed.
You take up position beside the door, leaning on the wall for support. As soon as everyone is into their positions you press the button to open the door.

"Oh. Well, I'm still alive at least. Mostly. Hey everybody, I'm about to open the door. Be ready, please."
Wait for everyone to get into position, and then open the door to encase the creature with the cane.
[exo 1]
Oh thats not good.
[dex 5]
Thats good though.

As the door opens you attempt to form your pimpcane into a wall of metal that can then engulf the beastie lurking in the room. However, your pimpcane goes soft and useless in hour hands, failing to impress anyone. The door opens with a billowing cloud of cold vapor and the iceopus comes skittering and slithering out like a spider on meth. As it crawls up and across the ceiling, heading down the hall back towards the tram, it attempts to stab you straight through the skull with one tentacle. But you see it coming and jerk your head to the side, just barely dodging the blow.

[Arty con:5]
As the creature skitters across the roof overhead, Arty swings his blaster rifle up and takes a snap shot at at it. The blaster rifle emits a loud "BZT" and the iceopus detonates into a spray of water and steam.

With the rifle still in diffuse mode, verify if that thing is actually dead or if it's regenerating. If there's any activity, shoot it again immediately.
If it's really dead, methodically check the room for other guards. Finish checking before looking for data, medical supplies and equipment, and general loot.

Trier impressed with this display of marksmanship was suddenly moved to say a phrase, a compliment, long forgotten from the days when he was young and would watch the family's troubleshooters exchange either compliments or insults after gunfights with the police. Oh no, the thing is a puddle of warm water on the floor. If it's regenerating, it's doing a very bad job of it.

The room it was in is, as said before, small and seemingly completely empty. However, tucked into the corner where it used to be sitting is a datapad, frozen in a solid block of ice.

Get.  Out.  Of.  Here.

The room to the far left of the iceopus is a small closet with metal shelving built into the walls. It's completely empty, except for a single syringe sitting on the bottom, right hand shelf.

You grab it.

The room directly next to the iceopus room is locked and the keypad is flashing red.

Arty examines the robots' flamethrower and see if he can use them to release the datapad. If he can't, see if someone is more knowledgeable with it. ((Zek has aux+1))
If Zek is also unable to figure it out, ask him to turn the pimpcane into a pickaxe; use it to break the ice while taking care not to hit the pad.
Once the datapad is retrieved, go looking for Trier with the weapon prepared, show it to him and ask: "I've got it, shall we head back?"

Keep on the tram.
Pragmatism is a positive personality trait.

Inject the syringe EDIT for Clarity: into myself and before Arty shoots the keypad try to open the door using the keypad.
You grab the syringe and inject it straight into the med port on the suit. For a few seconds it seems like nothing is happening. Then your legs start to melt. It starts at the toes and rapidly spreads upward, your flesh degrading into an oozing brown sludge. You do what most people would do in this sort of situation: You scream as well as your one lung allows. This screaming becomes a gurgling and then is cut off as your head sinks down into the muddy mass of your torso. As the mass of brown former human starts to spread outward and congeal, it sprays greenish sparks and then catches fire. In a blaze of emerald light the giant turd vanishes into thin air.

Head back to the tram.

"I can't say whether if shooting the keypad will open it or destroy the only measn to open it... Whatever, just cover the door lest something comes barrelling out."
Arty shoots the keypad.
You take out one of the robots and carefully poke around in its innards until you find the flow control for the flame thrower. You light the pilot light and use small jets of flame to slowly melt the ice. It takes a while and the data pad comes out a bit singed, but you manage to get it.

You manage to catch the tail end of Trier becoming a turd and then vanishing. You stare at the place he used to be for a good hard minute before closing the door and heading back for the tram.

Nope.

The remaining three of you hobble back onto the tram and ride it all the way home. You're in the middle of dragging the crippled bastard off when you hear something. A screaming, as though from a great distance. The air in front of you shimmers, turns brownish, and then solidifies into a giant mound of sludge. The sludge settles, pooling out on the ground. Embedded in the center of the slowly spreading pile is Trier.

"Right, I've got the datapad here, and these robots... Do you know what are they? Depending, I might want to keep them."
They give you 5 tokens for the datapad, but tell you they have no use for the robots. They tell you that the robots are automated purge bots designed to incinerate organic material and clean up infected areas. The program to control them isn't available to them, but it should be back on the pc where you got them.

The flamethrower is a small one attached to said robot. It's not the sort of thing you can carry around as a weapon. At least not a very effective one.

In the meanwhile, about splitting the cash. That's one token for each, and I would like to take the remainder; it'd be enough to see if I can still get these second-hand x-ray eyeballs that were up for sale. They're much cheaper than brand-new ones, and I would use them to help others."
Give a token and a robot to each of the others.

((PW, do we also get XP?))

You pass out one token and one robot to each of the other members of the team.

((xp is gained via reading the datapad, which renders it worthless. It's a choice you have to take))

"Aw, c'mon man. Why couldn't you just wait until you got a room?
I think the scheduled payment is acceptable. Now, let's get paid and podded. Oh, and limb replacements."
Get paid, get fixed, get podded.
To the pods you go. We're replacing the leg with a mechanical one.

Accept payment, receive treatment for sucking chest wound and punctured bicep.
We'll stitch you back together.

No, it was not.

"Right.  I'll see if I can get these running again...

Ooh, and I can get the Solid Light Thing now!"

Buy the Solid Light thing that I have tokens for.

WIKI!

Sweet. I think We're not gonna get anyone else so lets get going.

The Tram heads back into the depths of the infirmary and returns to the same station where it stopped before. The blood stains from the previous exploring party are still visible on the tile floor around the tram.

There are two exits to the tram room; one to the left and one straight ahead. Judging by the blood stains, the previous group took the one straight ahead.

You enter a hall. There's a door to the right, and another door at the end of the hall. The room is clean, smells of nothing, and is silent besides the hum of the light strips on the corners of the ceiling.

The current hall? No, no containers. Unless doors count as containers. I guess they kind of do.

Keep on going straight through the door.
You ignore the door on the right and head on toward the one straight ahead.

The room at the end of the hall seems rather small. It looks like an office of some sort, or maybe a security room?  There's a small desk against one wall thats loaded up with multiple monitors. On the wall opposite the desk is a table with a coffee machine on it, along with a stack of Styrofoam cups, sweetener, creamer and individual pot sized bags of instant coffee. Above the table is a poster. It depicts a man sleeping in an office chair about to be attacked by some kind of comically oversized praying mantis. The caption on the poster reads "The little nap might turn into the long sleep."

The monitors are showing what appears to be an observation room; a padded cell with a toilet, bed and food dispensing unit. The room is a mess, torn up and covered in rotting food products. There is a human pacing back and forth in the room, apparently very agitated. You can't hear anything over the monitors. There's a door on the same wall as the desk with the monitors, and another straight across the room.

Search the desk for a remote or something to control the monitors with. In fact, search the entire desk for anything that might possibly be of use (even if it's a ballpoint pen or something like that). Are there any other doors in this room aside from the one we came in from?

Edited my action
You search through the desk. There's a few pens, a log book, a stack of printer paper, an unopened pack of notecards, a desk fan, a bag of cough drops and a magazine. I'll let you choose what you want to take.

There's no remote and the monitors don't appear to have a channel change feature, just an on/off button. No show but the crazy show.

"No idea, but from what I've heard of the doctor, he's probably going to be very murdery. Let's keep moving, I want to just get my money and get outta here."
Carefully open the next door, going straight on ahead.
You head straight through the door ahead of you and it leads to another hall. This one has 3 doors on the right side and another straight ahead. The farthest one down on the right has some sort of strange symbol drawn on it in...some sort of reddish fluid.

Inside the marked room is a VR system. The entire room is only slightly bigger than the machine and it appears to have been made specifically to hold this machine. The machine itself looks normal, just like any of the VR machines you would see in the rec room, but the room itself is rather disconcerting. There's splatters of dried blood, scratch marks and dents on the walls, ceiling and floor.

"Mhn, my hair. Where'd you guys go? Why didn't you wake me up?"

Leave the tram and walk down the hallway not coated in blood.
We'll assume you joined up with the group.

The room next to the VR one is about the size of a small office but is completely empty. There's not even light strips to illuminate it. Just 4 bare walls, a tiled floor and a metal ceiling. How anti-climatic.

Enter the VR Pod. After all the (less in)sane people get out of the room.
"What could POSSIBLY go wrong?"

You get into the VR pod and make yourself comfortable. Strangely, the wrist restraints don't automatically clank down; you had honestly expected the machine to just drag you kicking and screaming into whatever terrible world it wanted to show you, but it seems like this is a journey you'll need to make of your own accord.  The VR system is a bit different from normal; it has no gloves for interaction, and instead of a screen there's some kind of VR helmet to strap to your head. There's also a rather prominent "POWER" button straight in the center of the console.  Seems that they want it to be as easy as possible to turn off and on.

Check another door. Make sure we have our weapons at the ready in case anything attacks us.
You press the button to open the door.

[3]
The door opens onto what looks vaguely like a metal wall with concentric circles or rings making up its surface. You stare at it for a moment, confused, before remembering where you are. You dodge to the side, but not quite quick enough. The wall telescopes out, expanding into an enormous metal spike.
[4]
The spike clips you in the left arm, carving a deep gash across your forearm before it recoils back into the room and the door closes behind it.

((I'm kind of surprised you didn't kill us with the sixes.))
You stand just outside the room and keep your weapon aimed at the VR machine and the man inside it. Probably a good idea. Always smart to have contingency plans, even when those plans are just to murder your teammates.

((Well I mean 6s are just something gone incredibly right, but like with something like sewing up a wound you can't do that TOO well.))
PLACE WRISTS IN RESTRAINTS
You carefully lay your arms on the arm rests and the cuffs snap down onto your wrists, There's a mechanical whir as the cuffs partially retract into the chair, ensuring that their hold on your wrist is secure.

You find yourself standing on the surface of a planet, or at least it seems to be a planet. The surface under your feet is engraved, and that engraving extends outward in all directions to the horizon. The planet itself is pale white and looks almost like marble, smooth and glossy. The sky above is dense with stars, far far denser than any of the planets in the outer rim. You're standing somewhere deep inside a galactic core. Ahead of you, maybe a quarter mile away, is a pit. It's quite large as well, big enough to drive the sword through.

Regardless of Y/N, take a few steps back out into the doorway and get ready to shut the door if Tinfoil turns violent.

No, but he could describe it to you, if he's so inclined.

"Well shit. Better not waste any time." Run over to the deadly pit to Hell and look inside.
You look down into the pit. The pit is also engraved. And it appears to have no bottom. It just...keeps going down until it vanishes into the white hazy distance.

Well lets see what that gen know is like. Zero huh? Neat. [6]

The ones directly around you appear to be three dimensional representations of complex organic molecules.  Lets see, the one you're standing on is...Oh, its an Apoptosome. You can see not only the general shape but if you bend and squint you can see right down to the molecular level, all the little amino acids lined up in bizarre chains and formations. You think, just maybe, you can see the atoms too.

You shrug and decide that the threat of death is a lot less terrifying when it's virtual. Your loins thus girded you huck yourself into the pit.

You fall....and fall...and continue to fall.

After a while you notice two things. First, you're not falling any faster. And thats significant since it means you've hit terminal velocity, and that means there's some sort of resistance around here. And second the engravings around you appear to be animating, like flipbook or a zoetrope as you wiz past. [6] Hmm, it appears to be showing...You're not really sure. It appears to be some kind of enzyme-substrate reaction but neither of the parts are familiar to you. They must be xeno.

As you continue falling, something odd happens; you start to slow down. There's no feeling of slowing, no tug of deceleration, but you can tell from the walls that you are starting to fall at a quickly diminishing rate. The engravings have swollen in size to the point that single compounds are encircling the entire wall. Below is a white haze, almost like a cloud layer. It feels like you're not falling towards it, but rather that you're floating and being draw in towards the slowly flowing layer of light and haze. You pass through it, feeling a strange sensation of electrical discharge crackling across your skin. It doesn't hurt but your hair stands on end and your skin tingles.

Beyond the hazy wall is something the size of a small planet or moon. It's pure white, albino pale, and highly convoluted, ridged like the surface of a brain.  You feel something wash over you, a dozen sensations and instinctual inklings; revulsion of staring at an excised organ, awe, vertigo, terror of being in the presence of something extremely dangerous to you like standing on the edge of a cliff or having a knife pressed to your throat, eyes drying out, shortness of breath, nerves tingling, the feeling of being watched, sensations of both familiar and utterly alien. You feel both like it is assuredly dead, and yet like it is keenly aware of your existence.

You are hovering now, somewhere between the inner surface of this chamber that holds the...thing...and the thing itself. The thing is hovering as well, floating there. There's something near you that is very much out of place. It looks like a large human structure, a sort of metal barnacle clinging to the wall with handrail trails snaking out away from it in all directions, to allow easier movement in this strange semi-spacelike environment.

Turn around and look back into the hallway for a bit. Can't afford to get sneaked on in this incredibly weird-ass place.
You back out and look around, peering down the hallway. Nothing out there but flickering lights and eerie silence.

Attempt to maneuver to one of the handrails and steady myself. Take aim at the Thing with my Gauss rifle and prepare to shoot it if it tries any funny business. TOUCH IT I CANT RESIST OH GOD
You float in closer, swimming through the atmosphere in a rather undignified manner. As you get closer, you feel strange. You feel like you're diving into deep water; the pressure is squeezing you, you hear your heart pounding in your ears and the center of your forehead feels like someone is pushing on it with a single hard finger.  It feels like you're being physically pushed back, repulsed, by unseen forces. You reach out one hand and you can feel your skin starting to peel.

Having gotten off of the initial tram and walked into the first room of the dungeon, Xan is suddenly confronted with his surroundings, whatever those may be.
Taking a quick look around at the objects that are most likely to be in his periphery until otherwise proven, Xan notices some lumpy and gnarled body under a large cloak, supposedly intended to hide the mass of limbs and organs hidden underneath, though this particular person who is named Xan (the one taking a look around, not the one under the cloak) doesn't happen to know what the cloak is supposedly intended to hide, except insofar as I happen to know, and this particular Xan is completely under my control. For the sake of narrative, I will proceed to pretend that this particular Xan does not know this.
Taking a quick look around at the objects that are most likely to be in his periphery until otherwise proven, Xan notices some lumpy and gnarled body under a large cloak. He decides to prod and converse with this body.

"Hello? I believe that we are in the same room, though it is possible that I am mistaken. Given our similar circumstances, would you like to form some sort of 'adventuring party', in order to share safety while pilfering this place for loot?

Walk down the door with the least amount of blood,  throw in a bit of scrap into room, if nothing happens  pick up and loot everything not nailed down.  Then head to next room
Have draco at ready to Shoot anything that isn't a team mate

The direction with the least amount of blood leads to the room to the left, with the camera feeds watching a man pacing around. Here's the old description:
Quote

There's not a whole lot in the room thats just loose beyond some office supplies and a coffee machine.

Describe the current room's layout in this voice.
Keep a lookout for any other people who might be sneaking about.

Keep a few darts floating around, ready to shoot into things.

If the Xan who is not me and their Xanny Id move this turn, follow them. Assuming that we're in the same room right now?

Also, remember to pay attention to the Haber's sense.

It's a big empty white room with nothing in it except some doors and the train in and out. Currently, people seem to be headed left. I don't know why I'm describing this out loud to no one in particular.

You follow Xan.

"Be cautious. This place is dangerous at best with its master gone."

Id: Guard duty. Protect me (me only mind you) from getting hurt. If it notices any clues as to the whereabouts of my target, notify me.
Me: Search the initial room for any sign of my objective. Use the Empathic Gland in short bursts to attempt to sense it. If no clues are found, move onto the next room.

Nothing here. I will assume that by "Next room" you mean the room to the left, where the other guy went.

Follow Vanessa keep helmet safetly secured keep weapons and medicine  at the ready don't think weird thoughts about Vanessa.
Following.

Check on TinfoilTophat's character again. Try to remove him from the VR machine.
You can remove him, but he continues to be completely brain dead.

The next room is a hallway with three doors on the right side and another door at the end. The farthest one down on the right has some sort of strange symbol drawn on it in...some sort of reddish fluid.  This series of doors should look very familiar to a certain someone in the group.

Non-Shakespearean?

"HEY LOOK SOME DOORS!"

What was my character's name again?

Anyway, try to pick up Tinfoiltophat's character without hurting him and leave the room.

Here is your wiki page
http://einsteinianroulette.wikia.com/wiki/Rocco_Coleman

You grab him and drag him out into the hall, coming face to face with the rest of the idiots wandering around in here.

Hmm. IdXan, open the door on the wall with the monitors and see if the pacing dude's in there.

I, meanwhile, will prudently stand back behind the desk, ready to take cover if needed. Before IdXan opens the door, see what I can sense from the guy with my empathy gland. Anything relating to my goal?

You hide behind the desk and do your best to sense out the the other guy. All you get is a feeling of massive urgency. He has places to go RIGHT NOW.

IdXan opens the door and no sooner has he done so then the man is running straight for it. He seems utterly unconcerned about idxan, about you, about anything really.

"Fuck you, I get dibs."

Stand near RealXan, perforate any hostiles with darts.

Also, to clarify, handing in one datapad is worth 5 tokens, right? Would reading one grant 5 levelup points?

That sounds like the sort of thing you'd need to figure out via trial and error.

IdXan moves to immobilize the guy, but the guy barrels straight into him and IdXan goes stiff as a board and gets a fair chunk of his skin evaporated. The man shoves past him and makes for the hall that Spaz is currently occupying while screaming something about having to get away.

Just wanted to go through the Origion vr poke it and such
then loot inactives for tokens which considering there are 15 inactives flagged for deletion on wiki, that would get me 75 tokens (i checked).
 Oh, and 15 mcp1's
Can never have enough mcp 1's
If I am allowed to loot the inactives purchase every nyartifact I can which will cost me 24 tokens and leave me with 51
Then purchase a aussault suit with gauss cannons with automatic force infusers in it that can be charged via a piston and used like an over charge shot incase I want to use it.
Have battle suit modified to run on AI like that of a gunner bot but still allow manual control and remote control.
If I can have the additional draco made using the body and 8 tokens or more if neccesary
If I still have any left get another draco mounted gauss turret ready for 2 tokens
Final 2 tokens on dragon coat plating on exo suit.
Ask doc and am to help me with understanding computers or even some basic programming books and tech books to help me understand tech better
before heading over to the mission.

The door with the symbol is the VR room with the origin VR thing. The symbol is a circle with some kind of complex series of lines within it. Your empathy gland feels nothing.  IdXan eventually gets back up and regenerates.

Try to figure out if there are any doors left that lead to new areas, because an Egan is confused with no maps.
There's one door that goes on. There are three on the right side of the room which have been explored, and one at the end of the hall that no one has opened yet.

Have IdXan open up the other doors in the hallway. What's in them?
Well, he opens the first door on the left and a telescoping metal spike stabs out through the open doorway and pins him to the opposite wall. It holds there for a second and then retracts. The door closes as the spike disappears behind it and idxan slumps down against the wall.

Peice wise, I decided to go to the newb mission, I don't even understand how you have my post pre edit

Sometimes subjects get free. And they have a habit of just opening whatever random door they get to first.

He prefers to collect them at his own pace and random death traps enable this.

Based off of map, go to the Onwards! door. Have IdXan do this obviously, after letting him regenerate from being spiked.

Idxan gets up and opens the door at the end of the hall. It slides open like something out of startrek and a billowing white mist pours out of the room. It seeps across the ground and through the hall. Idxan looks down at it, confused, and then is suddenly yanked down and dragged into the room by something unseen.

Put holes into things that come out of that door. With my penis homing dartmass, not the holepunch.

Stand by to treat people in case someone gets hurt.

You switch the id manifestor off and then back on. You turn to say something to IdXan but he sweeps your legs out of under you and kicks you in the ribs.

Stand by to treat people in case someone gets hurt.
You point and laugh at Xan's minor injuries and total BTFO status.

Put holes into things that come out of that door. With my penis homing dartmass, not the holepunch.
You perforate the room in front of you with the darts and then wait. There's still a lot of gas and vapor leaking out of that room but no one else gets grabbed or attacked.

Xan wheezes as he gets back up.

"Are you done? I understand you may be angry about being exposed to danger but we both know you possess far superior durability and regeneration prowess to me and, more importantly, that if I die, we both die. Preserving me is thus a beneficial path for us both. I apologize for switching off the id Manifester; I will not do such unless it is absolutely necessary to extricate you from a trap, and even then for no longer than necessary. Now can we get back to the business at hand? What was in that room? Were you able to perceive it?"

Yeah sure get your catharsis buddy. Now tell me what was in there pls

"Most amusing."
Do some nice idle animations while we wait for this mist to clear.

You seem to forget that he has your strong desire to not die. And turning him off and on is basically the equivalent to killing him and then creating another one with the old one's memories. He is rather annoyed at you doing that, if only for purely pride based reasons.

Still, he tells you that there was something invisible in there. He could see the gas flowing around it if he looked carefully.

The mist clears revealing a circular room with no sign of any hostiles in it. There are a few specimen tubes along the walls, all empty, and a computer station in the back.  There's a single door out of the room, to the right (north).

"Then that was my mistake. I will refrain from doing so again. I apologize, I of all people should have considered the implications of turning the Manifester off.

Now then, invisible? Likely not what we are looking for then. Unless it's much more creative than I had anticipated. I would recommend that you develop a weapon and a nonlethal immobilization method, since you possess those abilities I lost so long ago. Please keep your hands or some other form of grasping available if you can, though."

Have a heart-to-heart with myself. Then IdXan, develop a (melee would likely be most useful) weapon and a separate capture method for our target - perhaps a toxic extendable spike and some sort of excretory gland that shoots webbing similar to a spider's? I will leave it to his discretion.

Oh, and stay on guard for the invisible creature. Use my empathy gland to find out where it is.

"If your current body dies, but is replaced by one that contains all of your memories as of the time of death, can you really be said to have died at all? It is much like temporary unconsciousness, or being revived from just a head."

Talking to IdXan.

"This problem seems easily solved. Frag out."

Toss a frag into the room supposedly containing an invisible monster. Also a reminder that I have a Haber's Implant. Do I sense anything out of the ordinary?

"Trust me when I say that while the both of us know firsthand the truth of that reasoning, it's more of an instinctual reaction."

Ok. spider xan, spider xan, does whatever a spider xan can.

Your empathy gland feels nothing in here.

But what you find, you both find, is a body. Namely because Xan trips right over it. It's human in shape (Discovered after a pat down) but completely invisible. Even the blood and organs coming out of it thanks to the several holes pierced through it.

"An entirely invisible man. This intrigues me, albeit it is not my goal."

Take a tissue sample; cut off one of his hands and store it on my person.

Then check the computer station to see if it says anything interesting, and have IdXan open the door to the north. With myself standing outside the room, of course.

"There is a body there that is entirely invisible. Please take a tissue sample, I'd like to study it's method once we exit here and it's more likely that we'll have one in the end if everyone gets one."

"All right then..."

Did I bring a knife? If so, use it to try to cut off some flesh from the invisible man, taking care not to cut ourselves. Maybe remove a finger or something.
