Hey, first post here. Been playing for a long time, though. Soooo I'm just wondering if anyone else possibly has an idea of what happened to this thing. I found a vault I had been searching for FOR AGES and went inside to get a slab that was inside. Grabbed it, took it with me (weight was over 700, my vampire martial artist made all kinds of gains) but kind of got tired of being ridiculously powerful. My current adventurer was basically One Punch Man. I hit a dragon so hard in the head that it decapitated it. I dropped the slab and some other stuff at the dragon's shrine/lair, as I was under the impression that lairs and shrines were like the only place you could drop things and have them stay put over time. I finally put the puncher of dragons out to pasture. Next character I made, I took him to that shrine to read the slab for the demon ruler's true name so I could BEND IT TO MY WILL! However, the slab was gone. Everything else I had dropped was there, but not the slab. Ideas? Wondering if it's a bug, if I just got the shrine thing wrong, or if the slab is back at its original resting place in the vault.

I have encountered this also.
I placed one down in a labrinth and got killed by the minotaur and went back to find a rotted body but no slab. I feared the minotaur had read it.
I looked in legends and saw no info.
It seems it deletes itself.

It is possible that the slab offloads from the site differently than normal items, cuasing it to suddenly be returned to the place where it is guarded, should an adventurer die trying to leave the vault. Bug perhaps? Check the vault or maybe try to reproduce it, save a file, and submit as a bug report?

Well personally I cheated by using legends-viewer, a utility that shows all sites on the map if you ask it to... I guess it's complete random chance to happen across one, although maybe you can go into legends and you can find out by seeing where the demon stored his slab, then asking around cities and towns till you find someone who knows the name and location of the site.
