With the coming of the end of the winter of the year 999, many powers are preparing themselves to begin the race for dominance and powers.

For example, diplomatic pacts and treaties should be reviewed and formed, not to mention that forces should be deployed in strategic positions just in case.

Deep in the heavenly hearts capital known as Worldsoul the true origin of the world as they say the Queen looks at her people frolicking elves playing with the sparse heumans and dwarfs...so adorable children really those humans and dwarfs which is why they need us their too young they can't live happy lives governing themselves at least not without our help...I will welcome them all into my lovely embrace one way or the other.

((Odd placement on our boarder, ATH, considering 27 can attack the capital directly, 26 and 28 are comparatively less powerful both as an attack and defense point, I would expect you to consolidate forces there.))

Avery drafted down orders to the militia and the standing navy to get ready for military deployments along the coasts. The riches of the past century should be shared with the rest of the continent--as would be their rights and wishes. She had no wish for war, but to deter the needless slaughter of many; as recorded in the histories, she feared history would repeat itself because of the unawareness and zeal of many others not knowledgeable as she could see.


Deploy all 3 standing militia to #43.

The Iänden Republic offers an Alliance proposal to any and all who wish to accept and reciprocate a mutual alliance treaty in turn.


Offer Trade and Research Treaties to the Tower Federation and the Iänden Republic.
Accepted.
The old Republic state of the eastern lands would be a good ally in the years to come--their trust has been forthcoming despite the current rumors of the lust of war.

The Magocracies were a reminder of the natural factors still left unstudied and put into a concrete science. Avery re-checked several other foreign documents and it appears that theirs had arrived before she could send her greetings. With a smile, she accepted as soon as she could attain the foreign forms.

Knowing either Merchant guilds or Scholar factions would benefit from a further extension of foreign trade and culture, Avery studied the last two remaining major factions. The Holy Lansee Empire had...a reputation of claiming historical anecdotes as a reason for moving their armies; while they initially had merit and credibility, the many voices over the waves reputably said otherwise.

The Heavenly Heart of the World was another concern. They were nominally seen as more open than the prior faction, yet may have held grudges over maritime tariffs and embargoes in the centuries past given the Republic's position in governing southern trade. Needless to say, this provided an opportunity for both states as it were.


The Iänden Republic offers a Research Treaty to either the Holy Lansee Empire, or the Heavenly Heart of the World, whichever accepts.

The Iänden Republic warns of the use of conquering to gain holy relics--and notes that the independent states governing the area are deeply concerned of Imperial forces traversing into their lands in search of bones of Holy Saints. They issue a counter-notice, of moving their own armies into those lands in order to return those bones, in order to avoid and misunderstanding between the local parties.

Though the Queen whenever you may have met her in person seemed bitter and angry over the tariffs she has shown to be calm and rational and as such you have...the queen casually appearing.
Accepts research treaty and offers alliance and trade treaty's to the landeen republic.
a mutually beneficial relationship to coexist between our nation's would be great..While the tariffs were a slight my people would not be able to live if we held onto our grudges forever so goodbye.

Despite the numerous harbors and otherwise, the Republic is sad to mention that they lack valued spots for accepting more foreign trade routes! They lack guards to secure the trade caravans that way and offer their sincerest apologies (and suggest sending those trade treaties to other fine folk here).

The local Bishop, an aging man in scarlet robes with a lengthy white beard and a silver circlet adorned with a large pearl, responds to Iänden Republic's request in person.

"You misunderstand our religion, pagan. We do not collect the bones of our Saints as the others do. Our sacred practice is burial at sea, sending our dearly departed directly into the waiting bosom of the Holy Twins. Saints are no different in this regard, if we where to recover the bones they would be simply cast once again into the sea. Rather, this is a message directly from Our Beloved Gods, who has placed the corpses of the Fallen Holy Ones on heathen shores. His Grace the Emperor himself interprets this sacred message as the Twins urging us to invade, bringing the Light of the Twins to the nations shrouded in Darkness. Doubting our intentions is....well, equivalent to doubting His Grace himself. Doubting His Grace is equivalent to insulting him. Insulting His Grace is the equivalent to insulting the Twins. Insulting the Twins is blasphemy. We do not take to blasphemy well in our religion, pagan. If your republic truly dislikes War, it would do well to stay out of the way of our Holy Mission, hold their tongue, and realize who is the most powerful force of this world."

Our sailors have noticed the tides and we have information regarding the oceanic currents: The waters abreast of your coasts move towards the neighboring lands instead of into the deeper waters in these seasons. I do not implore blasphemy, I implore understanding. The people of those isles fear the soldiers of the Empire rightly, and our soldiers would act as mediators instead.

The Queen is refused entry to the capital, let alone the Palace. The Guards recommend she stays at the Diplomat Manor until the Emperor sees fit to send someone to speak with her.

Avery admitted quiet defeat. She respected religion and knew that the Empire, while it had dissent sown into those they had taken over, also improved the quality of life and living in many other peoples of all races they met, too. Personally, she liked the Twins; she did not like some of their worshippers though.

"We are grateful for enlightenment and are open in receiving copies of your scriptures. Maybe in the future, we will not make that mistake again; have my apologies, we will not...formally intrude in the Gods' will."

While the meeting was swift, Avery knew that there would be a slaughter in the independent isles. She had no power in this matter, and instead delegated the choice towards the militia commanders.

The first millennium since the calendar had been made was about to come into being: In the years that would come, Avery wondered whether it would lapse into war, or stagnation of conflict. Tension was in the air.

After some time, an Archbishop arrives. His head is shaved bald, with a golden crown surrounded by pearls. His beard is incredibly long, tied in multiple braids with strings of small pearls. He was wearing a long scarlet robe with pearl trimmings.

"I apologize, your Highness, but you should be aware that non-believers are not allowed into the Holy City-save for emergencies-let alone allowed an unplanned audience with His Grace Himself. Had you sent word of your arrival beforehand, I would have been waiting here with servants sent to properly manage this place. For the time being, you will have to make do with what we can find."

Avery admitted quiet defeat. She respected religion and knew that the Empire, while it had dissent sown into those they had taken over, also improved the quality of life and living in many other peoples of all races they met, too. Personally, she liked the Twins; she did not like some of their worshippers though.

Since I could not get an audience with the emperor I wish for you to hand him this tablet this is not a business or kingdom affair but it is Something the emperor deserves to know...

The Archbishop makes a motion to take the tablet, before stepping back deciding against it in his advanced age. He calls for a nearby Manor guard to retrieve the tablet from the queen, holding it in front of him for several moments as he reads it.

After the Queen left the nation, the tablet finds itself delivered straight too the "Heretic's cave", a library of heretical works. It now sits next to a chunk of stone with graffiti suggesting the Emperor's mother is a prostitute and a vandalized portrait of the Emperor with a fake mustache and other such blasphemies. It is promptly ignored by everyone.

Given the recent plague, Grimazul Kazad rejects the alliance proposal by Heavenly Heart

Unless the empire returns Ianden's territory to it, the Empire can consider itself at war with the Republic of the Steel Fortress, an action which will condemn the empire to it's utter annihilation.

Alessa main profession was ensuring that Avery did not hurt herself, rather than preventing anyone else from hurting her. Today, Avery was busy ranting: "He even misspelled borders! It's like we're...a vassal-to-be to the Empire! Gnnhhhh those demands are atrocious! Just because they're safe in their religion doesn't mean that our technologies are to be given freely by might of 'The Gods' (which is more zeal in their people flinging themselves at our fortifications than anything) an-and-"

Alessa cut her short by proximity. Her presence being so close to Avery made her aware that she was in the company of others. "In short, it's our fault we chose to defend the Throsian Kingdom, and we should have sent diplomats instead."

Calmed down by being understood, concisely and pointedly, Avery had to resign her temper. "Quite.

"We need to call on the people. Please make another draft of that paper--we are to continue being at war. The bishop has transferred responsibility of our actions, that we are culpable as reason for them to attack us. Send a message to the militia commanders in private--their suspicions were correct all along. I will...require privacy for thought."

The master of the tower of shadows sat, brooding in his dark room as he read the latest reports on the insulting proclamations coming from the other countries. He shook his head sadly, with the other nations rising their hackles so threateningly the Federation would need to consider their future very carefully. They had already wasted so much time fiddling about, "steel" what a ridiculous concept. The master of Shadows knew in his heart that these promises of better weapons were only propaganda to secure more funding for those metal lovers, he knew their secret agenda was only to make more reinforced spoons that would not bend when scooping overly frozen icecream! Ridiculous!

The master of shadows took out his ink and quill as he prepared to write a masterfully crafted missive to the other tower masters, one that would certainly turn their nation off a terrible path of steelworking to a more reasonable future. He hesitated for just a moment, thinking of what he could suggest to replace it. At just that moment his cleaning lady walked into the room, and with a swift motion flung open the heavy drapes on the window, nattering on about something to do with being cooped away in the dark being bad for the eyes! The master of shadows hissed and crawled under his desk to avoid the hated rays of light that now flowed into his room as the cleaner started to dust away his priceless collections of dust. He moan in despair, if only there was a system to pump out servants who truly knew their masters needs! If only there was a way to teach young people his habits so that they would serve him better! Alas! That's when it struck him, an idea for what could replace the silly research on steelworking.

Noticing the added infrastructural prototypes lying around, along with the added benefit of steady and honest trade routes, the Republic began constructing additional supports and reinforcing their cities with the aid of the citizenry. Ship-bound marines began training in land warfare to supplement the land-based militia.

Avery was heard addressing the militia chain of command as rumors of the battle of [#23] spread from Imperial forces climbing their dead to strike at the pallisades, or using the corpses of the dead to ram down the gates, or even flinging their bodies at defending soldiers when they were sure to die. This had to be addressed objectively: "The Imperial forces are well-trained and disciplined, but they do not know the perils of the sea they claim their Gods to be! We cannot face them in direct confrontation--their zeal matches the smoke rising from the embers of villages and towns they pass; they drive themselves to death in fear of committing any 'sin' against their Gods, even if this means providing their own bodies as ladders over our fortifications. Thus so, we cannot utilize conventional tactics in a defense against them without the use of fortifications; we must acknowledge what our current enemy is today, so we can add to our understanding of tomorrow. Soldiers, women, men, and marines, treat whomever you capture in battle just as much as those who stand beside you--while the Imperial soldiers are blinded by those in the faithful hierarchy, this war will have the same warriors act as civilians when it is over. Show them the power of humane treatment: Commit battle only in skirmishes! We are not alone in our fight for an equal world!"

In dealing with additional matters of the state, word from the North by traveling merchants spoke of the 'plague' rising in the cities and towns of the Elves. With little to spare for themselves, Avery had to make a choice to dispatch the best of their naval fleet in delivering aid by sea to the north, inclusive with contacting their Dwarven allies: She hoped they were not too late. In addition, the blueprints they received about effective distribution and production of paper...on paper, were a valuable addition to their repertoire; now they could mass-produce paper rather than have it as a rarity and high-valued commodity.

She wondered why the Empire gave such a high demand with no return at all other than "heavenly penance". Were the Imperials not aware that the whole Republic worshipped the Lord of Sea and Sky? Perhaps it may be due to them treating the entity as a philosophy and guide instead of a deity to life by, perhaps.

The Elfs of the Heavenly Heart of the World hoped that their masses would be enough to overcome the zealots' defenses, alas, the Holy Lnasee Empire had better tacticians in their midst. Only after several weeks of siegeing and skirmishes, the strain on the Lansee units was too much, and slowly they gave in to the offensive.

And lo, the elfs have captured the province, but only after suffering tremendous losses of over 70 thousand men.

The speech praises those who had fallen in defense of 27, urging the remaining troops to follow their example in valor. It also criticizes the invaders-especially the Elves who had attacked without so much as a declaration of war. The main focus, however, was that the Gods hadn't and wouldn't abandon them, citing the plagues in the heart of invading enemies as proof of Divine Wrath. "God's in their seas, and all is right with the world."
