GLADIATOR MANAGER
Famous Gladiators (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=161339.0) 2

How can you pity them. What you offer is the better option. A painful death is far more merciful than a life of toil... and maybe, they will rise. Maybe, they will become something more. Lead them. Give them that opportunity.

Choose
>play as gladiator (human or beast)
>play as manager

(rapidly switching roles will not be allowed, nor simultanous play. both roles are active.)

2 to 8 simultaneous players, downtime/swap-out, waitlist
daily turns, up to 10 turn battles

Still working on gamebalance, please be ready for changes little and big. I like to experiment!

I may unapologetically or without warning, take breaks from the game. I may make gameplay decisions that don't benefit the immersion but help me run the game more smoothly.

The Manager

In this game managers will assemble teams of gladiators and face off. Team size will depend on the gladiator to manager ratio. During a fight managers will need to assess when it is time to call the fight. Profits will decline if the audience is unsatisfied. New slaves are cheap and easily replaced.

You have to manage your reputation and wealth. Feeding and arming gladiators is costly, and if you bring the goods you will be payed more to show your products.

You may trade wealth and gladiators with other managers as you wish. You do not need to accept a fight that isn't in your favor, it may then be in the interest of the other manager to lend you a gladiator to balance out the fight.

AUCTION

6♥
Toh (Lion)
5♥
Killius ”Hero"
4♥
Nerdelium
4♥
Jagula
0♥
Excalia

(newcomers are free)

I will enforce any wager I am told about beforehand. Post your guess for the deadpool, its free if you have no wealth.

The Gladiator

You can ask your manager for gear each time you survive a round, and they'll toss you the closest thing around.

Advice: Please the crowd!

Random starting gear upon signup.

Progression: There are 3 acts to your career as a gladiator. Winning is important because it means staying alive but if the crowd isn't impressed, you've made no progress. You need to become, famous.

Act 1 Mook Slave (-1 appeal)
Act 2 Recognized Indenturer
Act 3  Exhabition Freeman (+1 appeal; bonus gameplay, be a boss, special events, you are retired)

GLADIATOR COMBAT RULES
1. Put your turn in a spoiler. ”GM only"
2. No PMing strategy to each other please. Banter here is welcome.
3. Set your allies. Post this -outside- the spoiler(visible to all). You can still attack these players in your turn. You can change this each round. If there are no changes you don't need to post it next time.
4. I suppose you could talk to each other through a spoiler. Like a whisper. This implies you both are very close to each other on the battlefield. Use caution. Allies only. (mutual)
Beasts CAN ally but CANT whisper.
5. I will not update sooner than 24 hours.
I will not skip players before 48 hours.

Manager!
Title: Re: Gladiator Manager
Post by: RoseHeart on November 20, 2016, 06:53:18 pm
Alright Detoxicated vs Ghazkull

Detoxicated has
•Toh the lion
•Jagula with miltary fork

Ghazkull needs to assemble a team. The hag will lend her gladiators, for a small fee, they are:
•Killius
•Nerdellium

Alternatively a bear has just become available.

You both can negotiate the type of battle and rules. You can auction against each other for the bear, trade and so on. The fight should be even. See combat values:

300 Bear
275 Lion
125 Nerdelium
125 Killius
125 Jagula

Think of how you will market the battle. I will change OP subtitle to a phrase selling the matchup. The number of views this thread increases from the start to the end of the fight will determine how much you get payed. You also get a small lump sum for each contender you enter.
These are all pretty fresh fighters. Which means both are easily replaced but they don't have any damage yet. Certain crowds will want to see some blood but we're not quite there yet, ending of fight before death is completely fine at this league.

Manager negotiation are allowed to take place in PM.

How much cash do i have?

Ill buy the following with the following priority:

1. Bear
2. Killius
3. Jagula
4. Lion

As for the fight, its only fun if folks die, so Detoxicated, what will you send in? I can give you the bear or Killius and Jagula both unarmed, for an entertaining fight.

I take bear and lion... Though, how much money do i got?
Title: Re: Gladiator Manager
Post by: RoseHeart on November 21, 2016, 02:02:08 pm
Alright, we will throw out costs and fees for now. Negotiate with each other a fairly even matchup. Think of something exciting. (see combat values)

Post by: Ghazkull on November 21, 2016, 02:07:41 pm
´Fine Detox, you want to run the animal shelter? Give me your gladiator and i leave you the bear.

As for a fight how about a 3 on 1 bear against all my gladiators. The One with the Military Fork gets to keep it the other two will stay unarmed for their first fight.

Deal?

If you are in agreement, shall I mark up the topic title to reflect the fight? Or would one of YOU like to offer a catchphrase for it?

Edit: I discourage Toh and Jagula facing off, successful tamers are rare... sometimes you have to pull your punches for the long run.

All I am saying is, the two of them are more valuable together than 2 fresh slaves, and I respect value.

I frankly feel kind of insulted. You give us some barebones ruleset without explaining how anything works and expect us to know what the hell we are supposed to do and get angry when we dont. A man can harm a lion unarmed its just very difficult but thats the point, i want to weed out the newcomers, since i dont want to pay for food, money and training on anyone who isnt superb material. That aside i said from the beginning that one of the three would be armed, as to make things more interesting not that all are unarmed.

But all that ranting aside i would appreciate some proper ruleset and an explanation as to what we are supposed to do and how this is supposed to work. So far i've been fumbling through, maybe detox knows the rules maybe not but i feel hes just as confused as i am about most of this.

Ah. Sorry I didn't clarify. You weren't here for the first Gladiators so you don't know about the old hag. That last post was in character. She's not very nice.

”...I have an idea".

BACKROOM

The hag lines up Nerdelium, Killius, Jagula and a caged Toh.

She begins to hand them their weapons one at a time...

Nerdelium is given two falchions- the second is unmistakably the one that was held by Excalia. She admires how fit he looks having been fed properly.

Killius recieves a Corinthian helmet (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corinthian_helmet) and his maul. She pours a warm approval over him. He is also looking better after eating well.

But stops at Jagula... "The beast will be your weapon." Her eyes look up to him in a plea for agreement but she does not wait long enough to receive one. As she walks away, a guard drapes a jaguar skin (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_warrior) around him.

The hag open up her loud, agrivating speaking voice. "Survive your second fight and you will be veterans. That means you are valuable and I will respect that value by allowing you to earn your freedom."

THE PIT

Within moments the the three men are rapidly marched towards the growing mania. The once muffled murmers rip open in the pit to full, open shouting.

The two armed men are sectioned off together at one side, while the jaguar garbed man the other... without a weapon.

In a foreign language a man shouts something. The audience's attention falls upon the gladiators once again.

But before they can start. Animal growls and roars are heard coming from the dark recesses of the gates... Nothing exits but something is waiting beyond.

The audience is scared.

Gladiators post turns in a spoiler marked GM only. All gladiators are active.

He might feel kind of insulted, but i actually think to myself: "Go find a hobby"
Seriously I am not going deeper into this at all, as Ghazkull has explained it all...

SO mr knuckle skull game master I am out of here... Next time you start a game make sure to explain the rules and make sure that you do not insult any of your players.

So i guess ghazkull wins...!

-Turn 1-

From both sides the strange sounds of animals are matched from the darkness to their terrible forms that come lunging towards the small spattering of frail men.

JAGULA is surounded. He gets low, and ready. The announcer welcomes PIJO the bear!

Longtime local favorite TOH the lion darts past the jaguar skin garbed man and heads straight for KILIUS. He defends a pounce by thrusting his maul sideways into it's mouth. The lion doesn't let go and they struggle for control over it. The lion gaining the advantage.

The jaguar man dances around the bustling black bear, which is quickly moving him towards the other men.

Title: Re: [IRP] Famous Gladiators

Stuff for the managers, mostly - I think that part would have benefited from feeling more structured. Hard prices for gladiators, defined rules and a "gladiator strength" number that is based off of an effective formula.
Title: Re: [IRP] Famous Gladiators

Title: Re: [IRP] Famous Gladiators

Not much, I felt. They essentially just did the setup, which wasn't too different from just you setting it up.

What would you like to see the managers do? What would you like the relationship between Gladiator and a manager to be? Do you think it'd be more fun if you had one manager coaching you. You as a team. Or is it more realistic for the manager's to be trading you amongst each other?

I'd have preferred more of a one-on-one coaching system, as you described. Kinda like your generic pre-boxing pep talk, but roman-ified.

The beasts were fun. A strong opponent that gets balanced by the fact that most everyone would be focusing on them, aside from a special 'trainer' type. Good luck with your future games!

As the roars of beasts echoed. Men in chains sat just beyond the walls. Toh, Killius, and others whos names had become a currency traded on everyone's lips. Soon these new men would be tested, would they also become, famous?
