Title: Einsteinian Roulette Early Days On ship Thread
Post by: AoshimaMichio on March 22, 2017, 12:56:44 pm
Einsteinian Roulette: Early Days

You step out of stasis pod into barracks naked, coughing up last bits stasis fluid out of your lungs. Nearby you find a box full of simple gray pants and shirts.

>Hello, and welcome to the the Hazardous Materials Requisition Corps.

> I'm the computer responsible of managing your potentially short service here, you may call me Dave. Nice to meet you. You probably have your reasons for being here, but honestly speaking I don't really care about those. What I do care about is what you will be doing here.

> Here's the deal. The HMR Corps has one mission: to gather research materials for the Magisters to aid rebuilding and strengthening United Worlds of Men to avoid next war of catastrophic proportions. What that means to you is being sent to every dangerous and twisted places we can possibly find in the pursuit of some more than likely meaningless alien can opener. And all you have to do is do that 10 times and you're free and clear, full pardon and carte blanche to do as you please. And that's the thing my newly made and no doubt transitory friend, there are only 2 ways out of the HMRC: you complete 10 missions or you die. There is no honorable discharge, if there's enough of your brains left to dump in something mechanical, we'll keep putting you out there. You complete 10 missions or you die. Any questions? No? Good.

> You may start screaming now.

Foreword

This is effective prequel to the Einsteinian Roulette, set few hundred years before events of the said game where Altered Wars is still in fresh memory, where UWM cements its power as military and governing force and re-establishing connections between lost planets.

For those more familiar with ER lore, this is somewhere around year 4100, roughly 600 years before events of piecewise's original game, before Red moon rebellions, before ascension of Armory Master and good ol' Doctor. Different time, different ship, same violent and bloody fate.

Rules

Standard RTD rules are in effect here:
[1] – Somebody is going to die. (Complete failure and bad side effects)
[2] – Traumatic amputation. (Failure)
[3] – Look on the bright side, its only radiation. (Lesser failure)
[4] – Squeaking through with most of your limbs. (Partial success)
[5] – Everything going my way. (Complete success)
[6] – Yes, I used a kilowatt laser to clean the windows in the ammunition storeroom, what of it? (Success so over the top that it has bad side effects)

Character sheet
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Stats
You get 20 points to put in at the start and 5 for every successful mission (assuming you live through it). Every 5 points in any stat is a extra 1/3 chance of a +1, so every 15 points you get a +1 in related rolls. Having less than 3 in a stat means -1 on rolls.

Strength:How good you are at lifting heavy things and then putting them down. Note that this stat doesn't describe your actual amount of strength; Instead it controls how well you control what strength you have. A giant robot with 0 strength will accidentally crush things it meant to lightly tap, and lightly tap things which it mean to crush.
Dexterity:Useful in hand to hand combat, acting quickly, running, dodging and generally doing things that require speed, accuracy and coordination.
Endurance:Useful for surviving damage and enduring effects such as poison, overmedication and drunkenness. This stat is also used for surviving lethal area of effect damage like explosions and massive amounts of gunfire. Some times the weapon that hit you might be so powerful that endurance will do nothing more than dictate whether or not your brain will remain intact enough to be revived.
Charisma:Can be used to look cool, beautiful and generally make a good impression on people. It is also used for convincing people of things and talking with them.
Intelligence:Your ability to analyze data, make educated deductions and knowing you really shouldn't jump into sea of molten iron even with a spacesuit. Used to operate certain weapons, like field manipulators.
Willpower:Not losing your mind in stressfull situations and resisting all manners of alien mindrape. Used to operate certain weapons, like psychokinetic amps.
Intuition:That six sense, tingly feeling in the back of your neck that lets you know that the meatloaf is bad or that someone's just lobbed a microton grenade into your latrine. Helpful for pulling information out of thin air.

Skills
You get 8 points to assign in the beginning and 5 with every successful mission. Every 5 points in any skill gets you a 1/3 chance of +1 to rolls, so 15 points in any skill means a +1 to all related rolls. Having less than 3 in a skill causes an automatic -1.

Conventional Weapons:By conventional weapons we mean anything that follows the general concept of "A metal tube which you point at things and potentially lethal somethings shoot out".
Unconventional Weapons:Covers your non-death-tube armaments. Explosives, melee weapons, field manipulators, etc.
Exotic Weapons:Things which blur the line between weapon, augment and supernatural force. Includes various psychokinetic amps, implants, genetic augmentation and most alien weaponry.
Handiwork:Making things, breaking things, and otherwise turning stuff from X into laserguided, thermonuclear Y.
Auxiliary Systems:The operation of things that are not purely weapons, or of weapons that are part of large systems. Includes mecha, exosuits, space ships and other vehicles, as well as computer controlled weapons, drones and etc.
Medical Tech:A mechanic both for people and the systems that keep people from dying in various ways.
General Knowledge:You know about the thing at the place? Yeah, of course you do.

Professions
Note: the + and -'s are to rolls, not skill totals.

Technician:Sometimes things needs fixing, breaking, changing or some other permutation of broke or un-broke. Or computers may need to know who's the new admin in system, or perhaps a shuttle needs some manual piloting. Thats where you, a heavy piece of steel and what you technical types like to call percussive maintainable, come in. Unfortunately all things truly weird are outside of scope of your skills.
+1 Auxiliary Systems and Handiwork, -1 to Exotic Weapons and Medical Tech (and Fate).
Transhuman:Humans are weak and squishy things that desperately need reinforcement, be it genetic, mechanical, biological or something in between. You don't really care as long as you can get it jammed into your flesh to give you superpowers. In the end of day you really didn't pay attention to more mundane parts of life, severely limiting your wealth of knowledge.
+1 to Exotic weapons. -1 to General Knowledge.
Mercenary:Even before this whole mess you made a living on killing things before they killed you. You've survived with nothing but your wits and weapon of choice and this certainly isn't going to change anything. Too bad that cocksure set of skills doesn't include patching yourself up or repairing your weapon.
+1 to General Knowledge and either Conventional, Unconventional or Exotic weapons, -1 to Medical Tech and Handiwork.
Doctor:These idiots, always getting themselves blown up and exposed to vacuum, charging in like lemmings and coming back in chunks. Good thing you're here to stitch them back together. When it comes to saving lives, no one's better than you. Too bad you're not so great with these blasted normal weapons.
+1 to Medical Tech. -1 to Conventional weapons.
Pragmatist:Everything is a weapon in hands of particularly street savvy man. No matter how unconvetional it is, you always found way to weaponize any object you could lift. Your focus on improvisation goes so far you don't even know how to use actual guns as they are intented to.
+1 to a Unconventional Weapons, -1 to Conventional Weapons.
Grunt:You always knew you'd grow up to do great things. The fact that you didn't just reinforces the knowledge that you're not all too bright. You're an ordinary shlub, just some poor jerk yanked into service because of some minor screw up. You're not a hero or a genius but you're flexible and that might be just enough to survive here.
+1 to a skill of your choice, -1 to a skill of your choice.

Armory
All weapons come with 1 magazine/battery of ammunition. Extra ammunition is available for a price.
Stat requirements are not absolute. You can use Plasma Projector with without Exoskeleton level strength, but with -1 penalty and extreme problems in case poor rolls.

Conventional Weapons
In the case of lasers and some other weapons, batteries are rated by time rather then shots. A 50 second battery can be used for a continuous 50 second beam or 50, 1 second pulses or anything in between.
Strength requirement for weapons matters only if you are made of meat or lesser strength class body. Strength classes go like this:
    Human < Robot < Exoskeleton < Synthflesh < Battlesuit < Avatar

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Unconventional Weapons
Field generators are devices which allow their users to manipulate certain physical constants within a defined area. The area and amplitude of manipulation can be varied, but greater sizes and magnitudes require greater mental capacity. Heating an area the size of a basketball is relatively easy, but manipulating the vectors of a few hundred pieces of supersonic shrapnel in a 10 meter sphere is gonna take some serious brain power.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Exotic Weapons
Regardless of what your local phone psychic has told you, humans do not have psychic powers. Psychokinetic amps are basically just modified field manipulators for more specific purposes. Rather then require the user to control things manually through the use of complex algorithms, psychokinetic amps are implanted directly into the user's brain and controlled via thought. Rather than circuitry, the amp uses the neural networks of the user to do the calculations; as you would expect, having parts of your brain subjugated in order to solve complex physics equations makes it rather hard to focus and function normally without a lot of willpower. Amps are mostly safe but are prone to occasional bouts of...feedback...when the user pushes them beyond his own capabilities.
You can have only 3 amps or decompensators inside your skull.

Welcome.

You presumably get dressed up before following lines painted on hallway floors towards armory, like a moth towards fire, hopelessly attracted by its potential for massive destruction. Armory itself is inaccessible, but you deliver your order to the person sitting behind the kiosk window. She's hairless, tall and very statuesque woman wearing green overalls. Her skin is harsh white, musculature extremely well defined to the point of near ridiculous levels. Her eyes are pitch black, indicating CamEyes implants. She puts down the datapad she was tapping, takes your tokens you find from your pockets and fetches you a rifle and magic calculator sliding them over the counter wordlessly before focusing on the datapad again.

"Here you go."

[Cha: 3-1] You pat your rifle uncomfortably while blushing and mumbling something unclear.

Armory master lifts his eyes to look you. "What? Do you need instructions how to use the rifle? One moment." Few seconds later she hands you a pamphlet with big friendly letters on top: Laser rifles for dummies.

"Screw you, Dave."

Microwave amp, cutting torch.

> Some screwing will take place eventually when we get you into new body, no doubt.

You too follow painted lines towards armory and find big grizzly murderhobo blushing at his brand new rifle.

Armory master takes your tokens and hands you cutting torch and a ticket. "They install amps in infirmary. Give this to any nurse or doctor over there."

Filgres looked around excitedly after he finished recovering from the tube and dressing.  "Hey, this isn't too bad!  I can't wait for the first mission!"

> That's the attitude!

Getting to briefing room is as simple as walking from one room into another on opposite side of hallway. The briefing room is very simple, a whole lot of painfully simplistic metal benches welded and bolted into floor with hundreds bolts. Clearly it's not intented for multihour conferences. Infirmary side of the room is empty of benches and contains inactive holographic projector.

Continue talking, continue failing...then I dunno go cry and read the pamphlet
Vik mumbles a bit before trying to raise his voice
"Wanted to know if you...er euh....does this ship have movies?"

"There's a television in mess hall as well as number of computers with internet connection and virtual reality machines. You should be able to find movies for your tastes easily."

You retreat into corner and read the paper. It's basically a comic about stick figures teaching basic firearm safety and usage; which end is the dangerous one, where to keep fingers and how to castrate mutants with three simple steps. Very educational.

Bastien opens their blue eyws amd falls outta their pod a small bruise on their cheek purple and unseemnly they scowl and then notice their lack if apparel they put on the hmrc outfit without looming at it and decide to head to the ships briefing room maybe then they could get some answers on why the fuck they had a bruise and they weren't in their cozy position back home doing their favourite hobby. Head to the briefing room snobbily and try not to get punched again no mater how hard that may be after looking at something to buy from the armory.

You follow a boxer into briefing room while staying doubly his arms length away. Seeing how simple and boring it is you continue to armory finding a bony fellow marching away and one big guy standing in corner reading some paper.

"Swee-too."

Stick the alien bits into my brain! Now! Look, I got a ticket and everything!

Infirmary is pristine place. Clean, white, rows of empty beds surrounded privacy curtains, and very few living things. Three nurses sit around a table on back chatting quietly and furiously tapping their datapads. You approach them waving your ticket. One of them inspects the ticket, drags you onto closest bed, pulls syringe pistol from her belt and presses it against your neck.

"Do you want to stay awake for the procedure or do you rather go under?" she asks smiling.

Welcome. Rifle got and two pallets of scout eyes packed under arms. Briefing room has a plenty of empty and uncomforable steel seats.

"Man....I love free stuff."

Gauss rifles are in high demand today, the armory master have to retrieve new one for you from back room and restock armory kiosk already. Mass murder manipulator received. However none of the medical or aux stuff is free, nor is any armor except that one Mk I suit in your personal locker. I don't know what gave you that idea.

Tiny tingles of electricity twitching your neck tells you to head in for briefing.

"Awake please!"

[INSTALL]

The nurse, no, actually Doctor Rush now that you glance at name printed on chest of her white jacket smiles slightly, although her smile doesn't quite reach her pitch black eyes. "Sure." She taps her syringe pistol and moment later you feel a tiny prick on your neck. Five seconds later you are completely paralyzed and numb. Rush and another nurse rolls the bed through back doors into long hallway and past number of doors before pushing you into one seemingly random.

This room is just as white and perfectly clean as everything else. It's mostly empty too, except a computer display on side wall and another on a rolling table, and surrounding operation table is a whole array of mechanical arms ending with wide range of tools such as vacuum tube, circular sawblade and whole array of others you have no idea about. Doc and nurse lift your limp carcass on the operation table, secure restraints tightly so your head and rest of body stays tightly in place. Doc goes to the wall display out of your field of vision while nurse drags the mobile TV in front of you. The  TV shows you, giving you perfect view of entire operation that will take place.

"We used to have one inmate here who liked to see all operations performed on him with great detail. Boys in maintenance installed these cameras and displays in most of operation rooms just for him. Unpleasant fetish if you ask me, but I'm not one to judge. Let's start then."

[Will: 5]
[End: 3-1]

Mechanical arms whirl in motion. You remain completely unfazed when vacuum tube sucks all your hairs out of the way and a scalpel makes three cuts on your scalp and pulls the flap of skin aside revealing skull underneath. Edges of cuts are quickly coated with some transparent paste that prevents blood making a mess. Sawblade moves in, cuts neat square section of skull out revealing your soft and so fragile brain beneath. Camera moves to display how a very thin black box is secured tightly against the cut out piece of skull and then the whole piece is put back in. You promptly pass out.

An indeterminate time later you wake up in infimary. Nurse instructs you to avoid head injuries until you have to go stasis again and escorts you out. You wander over to briefing room where everybody else is waiting.

> Alright cookies. This is not the mission site we were originally going to, but since our travel route took us through this system we might as well lend few expendable hands to local authorities to make their job a little bit easier.

Holographic projector activates and displays a six legged ovoid creature with a heavy brownish gray shell, small mass of tentacle arms and a great sucking maw of teeths.

> So, are you familiar with Vexile? Those six legged xeno pests that that eat everything and shit almost nothing? That plague almost all Tomb worlds and large transport ships? Literal garbage disposal system in few worlds? Well, one of the big corporate freighters that arrived into this system just before us has slightly unusual problem with them. Unusual is the keyword here; normally Vexiles are pretty content with eating whatever trash they find and basically never attack humans. However Vexiles on this ship have turned exceptionally aggressive and in unusually large numbers. They have attacked the crew, eaten good number of them and blocked rest from ship command room.

> Your task here is simple. You will be dropped near one of the service airlocks, you get in, find and secure cargo hangar for more professional pest exterminators to get in en masse and kill as many Vexiles as you can in progress. Figuring out what made them so aggressive in first place or where they came from would be nice bonus, but not exactly required. Keep in mind this is a corporate ship, so try to keep looting and structural damage in minimum.

> If you have no questions to ask or weapons to buy, then get into the shuttle and pray you won't be eaten alive.

Into the shuttle and likely death

The shuttle is neat teardrop shaped and coated with reflective metal. Looks really fancy. Before getting into shuttle you stop to find your locker and wear your space suit. Because it would be a shame if the shuttle opened into cold hard vacuum.

Then actually buy some medi foam and painkillers with any Tokens I have and head to the briefing room and ready for mission...probably dident miss any important information at all.
((it was the fact there was no token price next to it at the time.

You have no tokens left for anything else. Gauss rifle was 2 tokens and manipulator was 3, so those very effectively ate all your purple casino chips.

You head to briefing room and find out people are already filing out and to hangar.

Wait, pallets of scout eyes? How many of the little buggers did I just buy?

Anyway, go grab an extra gauss rifle mag for my last token and make sure I'm wearing my Mk.I. Then into the shuttle I go.

You get three for a token, so I assumed you wanted spend two tokens. Not that it's a bad idea to buy in bulk, those scout eyes are notoriously flimsy. No doubt you will destroy at least half of them before mission is over.

You suit up, shivers going up your spine as couple of waste collection tubes find their way into your various orifices.

Duct tape. 50 ft. rope. Prybar. Switchblade.
Then shuttle.

Armory master hands you three first items and wonders for a moment whether or not she should charge you for all that but decides not to. Enjoy your adventure.

Shuttled.

Why not, it's not like extra weapon won't be useful here. But you have to add two more skill points so you get total up to 8.

Right then! All mission personel head over here: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=163517.0

Buy a gauss rifle. Inscribe prayer seals to Ingram and attach it along the hand guard.

Go to the mess hall. Enshrine a picture of Trotsky as our God of Comradeship. Offer it mess hall food and drink and pray for protection for the team against friendly-fire and disharmony.

You buy the rifle. But why you are praying weapons manufacturer?

[Handi: 4-2] All you can do about the shrine is to print pixelated low resolution picture of Trotsky and tape it on wall next to food dispenser. You offer your heart felt prayers and hope you were heard. Dave definitely did.

That's it pretty much. Destruction of upper class is a mercy by itself. Power to people, down with magistars and so on. The whole reason you are here. You have failed Marx.

I see you are channeling Elizas there. Results are unlikely to be same though. But before you go let's dish out the tokens.

Go deposit all corpses and mahcine pieces with the relevant people, don't forget the two tiny vexile corpses I put in ym suit pockets.

Then head to the briefing room

Level up: +2 aux, +3 handiwork, +2 will, +2 end, +1 strength

Deposited it all into nice boxes that are immediately sealed.

Briefed and leveled.

+2 Will, +3 Intu, +5 Con

Got it.

You also wake up in infirmary. Your entire lower body is in cast. Nurse hands you a bottle of painkillers and tells you to pop them whenever it gets too painful. The bed you are resting on has joystick so you can roll around on it.

I suppose you will roll to briefing room too.

Get patched up, turn in corpse (or as best able with no feets) and hit up briefing.  Level up when I have a minute to ponder it.

Corpse turned. Doctors give you an injection of something nice and when you wake up you have nice robotic legs. Your fleshy bits are replaced from knee down with ones of shiny chrome and bundled black muscle. They are heavier too, so you better get used them.

Briefs.

+4 Conventional weapons +2 strength + 2 endurance

Time to Wake up bastien!

Leveled.

Your right leg is replaced from hip with robotic version. Difference with old is considerable, it even weights more than the other one. Getting used to such disparency might take some time. Your dominant hand is in cast. Apparently they also gave you new metal trigger finger but it's under the cast so you can't go poking people with it.

Assume yourself hobbling to briefing room too.

> There are few things I could say about this mission, but "good work" is not one of them. Seriously. As fun as that was to watch, amount of damage you caused to yourself compared to what vexiles did is staggering. But I suppose that is to be expected from deathrow inmates. Anyway. The corpses you bought back were quite helpful in figuring out what the artifact did. It would have been much easier if someone hadn't broken it in first place.

Apparently the device caused wide range of mutations, but few consistent ones were related to adrenaline glands, brains, and metabolism making vexiles generally very angry, strong, and hungry. Since their metabolism was greatly accelerated their usual instinct of avoiding potential danger was supressed. In theory it should have same effect on humans too, so except some fun additions to armory later.

> Now, the payout:

Joanna: You didn't do much, but you didn't fuck up anything either. You kicked Vik and got artifact in pieces. 8 tokens in total.

Bastien: Keep up that and I will ban you from armory. 5 tokens.

Citotp: Aside hurting your teammates you didn't do anything. 5 tokens.

Grits: I'm kinda torn how much I should give you. On one hand you were fairly competent, killed all vexiles on single sweep, located the artifact and recovered it, but on the other hand you also broke the ship and erased plenty of evidence. I guess I'll give you 8 tokens, mostly of it comes from the corpse collection and artifact pieces.

Vik: Keep your hands off from cutting torch from now on. 5 tokens.

Filgres: 6 tokens on courtesy of the corpse.

> And that's that. Don't loiter around too long, we will leave soon for our next mission.

Go to briefing room, poke about on computer to make up a program later for the vr combat sim, have it set to run all female crew members, set variables lust: max; preferemnce: either; clothing: none.

(Well I realized after posting this that it is still a combat sim so they'd still fight. but I am perfectly fine with it in this little act of immaturity.)

After receiving your tokens you head straight into VR.

[Aux: 3-1] You don't have slightest clue how to modify their variables or even how to get their models in...

Ah, briefing revealed who stole my cutting torch! Run him over with gurney and retrieve.

One is in VR and another on motored gurney. Would the one in VR even notice? I mean it's a simple bed on wheels, not a rocket propelled semi truck.

[Vik Dex: 5]
[Citotp Dex: 4-1]
[Con: 6+1]
[Citotp End: 4-1]
[Joanna Dex: 4]

Having failed to satisfy his lust in VR Vik takes VR helmet off and looks around. He notices Citotp on hospital bed speeding towards him, murder in his eyes. Vik thinks the bony person may perhaps know too much and decides it's time to silence him. By lasering his head off. With fast movement Vik flings out his laser rifle, steps on side of the bed (not that it's difficult or anything) and swings the laser over Citotp's chest, cutting him and the bed in half right through his heart. Swing of the laser goes a little too high and seriously menaces Joanna that's about to enter rec room too. She notices the event unfolding and only her fast reflexes saves her from being cut half vertically.

"Hey, what the fuck?!"

"It's self defense." Vik shrugs. "Completely legal."

Vik grabs now dead Citotp by hair, leaving the lower body and arms behind, and drags him to armory leaving a trail of blood on floor. The armory master raises her gaze from datapad and frowns at the blood trail.

"Return policy for dipshits is to throw them into infirmary. Two tokens for manipulator, one token for both rifle and torch."

Bastien looks agahast at dave's madness. He was clearly the defacto mvp of the team he would go as far as to say everyone would have died without his wisw guidance. Yes. ((I don't know if I'm qualified to give suggestions...))

As soon as you enter the rec room you notice you are on Vik's firing line. You jump on side and feel brief touch of hot air near your hand. After throwing some curses at him you watch as Vik drags Citotp's upper body away, leaving broken gourney, lower body exuding all kinds of internal organs, and pair of arms behind.

This ain't relaxing! Not relaxing at all!

Vik makes a clicking noise with his tongue before gathering up his tokens and the remains of hte hospital bed and citop.

Drag his corpse back to the infirmary, take the hospital gourney though, might use it later, also keep his arms and lower body. Also request if the doctors can install a shut down switch in case he gets violent again...take two of citop's tokens so I have 11 tokens, then go buy a laser rifle and exoskeleton.

"Dave, remind me I owe the dibshit two tokens."

The corpse doesn't oppose your loan application, so you secure funds for commercialism. Laser rifle obtained. Exoskeleton will be delivered to your locker before next mission.

You hand the corpse to infirmary personel.

"You are all already equipped with shock implants, but Dave is the one who handles the leash" one of the nurses responds.

You go harvest Citotp's remains and shove them all into your locker.

> Sure.

((Go ahead; next time Citotp is probably going to use the Amp.))

Some time later you wake up floating in a tube filled with liquid. You can feel anything below sternum and elbows. All that is there is bundles of various tubes and cables. You can barely see outside of the tube, but there appears to be few figures.

"You seem to be awake now. Look, I don't mind you visiting my infirmary so often, but would you try to stay alive and unhurt between visits? You should save violence for your missions." female voice speaks. "But let's focus on the matter on hand. A good portion of your body is gone, so would you like to have fullbody prosthetic or only replace missing parts? Blink twice for fullbody, thrice to keep what remains."

Bastien's eyebrow...lightly twitches as he messes with his blond hair giving a small huff.
Retrieve my damn gun. Go to Vr. Prepare combat simulation with me and my current equipment agasint the rest of my missions team except joanna they will be my medic and also be inexplicably attracted to me and constantly brag about how great I am
. I start in a fortified position with johana they start in a killing field with me having clear shots at them. All npcs start with previous mission equipment except joanna who is in a bikini but with the rest of her mission equipment.

It appears someone died very recently in the rec room. Judging by amount of blood they has some very serious wounds before expiring. There's also some guy you don't remember seeing before in corner worshipping his rifle.

The VR program makes a mistake while you enter simulation settings and so the situation ends with everybody against you. They shoot your lombs off and burn stumps with lasers and space magic. Almost like reality.

Go see if I can have one of citop's arms turned into a remote controlled puppet for me

VR seems to have mostly games. Battle of Hexbarax, Punch Many Things, Poacher and Duel. Hexbarax and Poacher may offer you chance to play your profession straight, but you may also want to let it loose and just punch or shoot things.

((Mk II is more likely to keep you alive.))

Menu fades out and world turns into featureless large gray room. Your first opponent appears to be a little girl.

Go to R and D then

The guy manning R&D kiosk seems to be so focused on his datapad he doesn't even notice you before you knock the window. He listens your request, takes a look at the arm and asks for more details.

"Do you want it on four wheels like a little car? Or do you want it to crawl on floor with its fingers? A.I. or purely remote controlled? Cameras? Microphones? Maybe speakers? Fitting weapons will be hard, but a lower power laser could be added. It also needs protection against adverse atmospheric effects, perhaps some low level armor..."

You can tell he's getting little side tracked here, already drawing plans for weaponized detachable hands.

Sure.

((Yeah, but that's five tokens and Joanna has 9, and the Advanced Kit is 7.))

Joanna made a mental note of the time remaining. She'd only go for [1 turn], she supposed - better safe than sorry.

Her first match up was a little girl? She considered for a moment. While she normally would have a problem with this, it was just a simulation. Ask her to punch a real little girl, heck no, but a virtual one doesn't really matter.

Punch the girl in the face. Because Joanna probably can't reach her gut without bending down.

You go in for a punch, but the little girl side steps and gives you a nose beep. She takes another step back and shakes her head dismissively.

Test out new feets!  By tap dancing or something.

These make quite good feets for tapdancing, you won't even need those special shoes. And you recon these makes effective kicking weapons should you want to kick certain someone's nuts. Assuming he is indeed he.

Before I spend my tokens on anything, do we have our own version of nyars boxes here? Is that a thing?

Nyars certainly doesn't exist. But perhaps you should ask around? Who knows what services we have here...

Rec room is still stained with your blood. But there's a plenty of clean space to sit on.

Kin amp and three fragmentation grenades bought.

There appears to be a decent punching bag you can use to went frustration. It doesn't offer any challenge though.

head into the Cryo sleep thingy so I don't die

It's less about cryo and more about being knocked out in a goo protecting you from massive G-forces, having your lungs filled with same fluid and getting a whole bunch of tubes inserted into your orifices. You know, fun stuff. But all the same, into stasis you go.

Joanna frowns. She'd have to do this properly later though - she didn't want to die to something so stupid after surviving that last mission.

End session, borrow 3 tokens from Filgres, buy Mk.2 and Advanced Kit, head to stasis.

So the legend of undefeated little girl continues.

Tokens are quickly borrowed, suit and advanced kit bought.

Stasis'd

Buy a Mk II suit (4 tokens left.)  Try tapdancing in it!
Filgres smiles at the asker.  "Sure!  You can pay me back after the mission; no problem."

Loan 3 tokens

You buy the suit and try it out. Soft soles of the boots make tapdancing considerably harder. And "soft" here means softer than your new metal bones.

Few tokens change owner and transaction is memorized. Better keep the medic alive so you can collect the tokens back later.

Ask around for nyars box like shenanigans. Go into stasis before I get killed.

Well, there's Vik discussing with a recearch guy about turning someone's severed arm into a remote controlled weaponized multitool. You inject your question in between the banter and thoroughly throw his train of thought off the tracks.

"Ah, well, maybe I could sell some prototypes cheaply before they are finalized and introduced to armory or abandonded. Or build a customized piece."

Podded.

say below:
"I'd like to get the hands remote controled, cameral imbedded in the back of the hand. "Hmm, hmm, hmm..." The nerd hops up from his chair and starts walking in circles and taps the databad furiously. After couple of minutes he stops. "Chief says you could have that done for three tokens."

((Using that thing for anything other than walking around would be aux roll.))

Bastien and Stepan are forcibly escorted into stasis by the armory master. I can't kill braindead people just because they are braindead.

Waking up from stasis feels like it happens right after getting in, you don't really even notice subjective weeks spent unconscious. Rushed by Dave's omnipresent voice everybody gets quickly cleaned up, dressed and into the briefing room.

> Our planned trip here got briefly interrupted thanks to vexiles, but here we are finally. Our target is a planet known as Frone, something we call a de-civilized world. After The Altered Wars started this planet lost its connection to rest of mankind. At some point between that and its rediscovery by UWM fleets they bombed themselves back to stone age. Funny what how four millenias worth of progress can completely disappear under 300 years.

> Now, records of the events right before Altered Wars are little spotty at best, but our glorious Magistars believe it was highly likely Altered strand was present here too. Despite of that planet seems to be rather lively which means early Altered were either swiftly defeated or our esteemed Magistars are wrong, which never happens by the way. So you should be able to see why Magistars are interested of this planet. Locals are no help in this matter; at best their oral history tells of demons rising to defeat their arrogant and mighty ancestors. Or so our brave culture exchange students do tell us.

> Anyway. What we are here for is a certain military bunker with still functional defense system, which puts it firmly into top five most interesting places on the planet. Because if its defense turrets still works, then it most likely has functional mainframe and most intact set of data anyone can possibly find on this planet. You will go in, disable defenses, find mainframe or some sort of data storage and download everything you can. Keeping its powersource and computer system functional would be really nice because less expendable people will scour the place more thoroughly after you are done.

> I think I can throw you all in there, those turrets will probably slice number of you for good, don't you agree?

Wait until after the jump or whatever when it's safe to get unpodded, then see what kind of prototypes the research guy has on offer.

Let's see. The R&D guy goes on the back room and returns five minutes later with two boxes. One is small box, about size of fist, with "Biased Red: ICH-AP-FO-Pa16" printed on it. You can buy it for 1 token.
The second box is bigger, around 70cm * 30 cm * 30cm. It has "Jovial Copper: ICH-OT-WE-Ui2316." printed. You can have it for 4 tokens.

"That's all the prototypes I you can buy at the moment. I don't offer any warranty, so don't come to complain if you get yourself hurt."

Welcome aboard! Your starting tokens is 5 and rocket rifle costs 6, so you won't be able to buy that one. You are left staring the informational table in armory, ignoring the giant synthflesh woman manning the armory who in turn is ignoring you in favour of her datapad.

" What can I buy for five tickets men's? Was thinking of what to equip myself with. Given I have to serve more." Doubts he is going to survive, eyes mostly bombs, gays rifle and the eye option. Only has five tokens, got to make them count. Screw the hand blasters, those are not worth a damn.

"Check the list (http://einsteinianroulette.wikia.com/wiki/ED_Armory). Laser and gauss rifles are good cheap basic weapons and will serve longer than you do. Tesla arc is good if you want some extra oomph. Or tesla sabre if you think tesla arc is too big. Mk II if all you want is to stay alive long enough to collect tokens from your first mission."

Welcome aboard. Try not to kill your fellow inmates.

After purchasing MKII and stashing it in my locker, I go to the rec. room and get some food from the dispenser.

The food dispenser is positioned between line of VR machines and kitchen equipment. It has a bunch of unlabeled buttons for main course, side dish, drinks and dessert. You poke the buttons randomly. Your main dish is steaming bluish slab of something meat like coated with yellow grains. Side dish consists of pale yellow mush. Your drink is dark, lightly transparent, lukewarm liquid. You aren't sure if you like the smell. And for dessert you have something orangish, lumpy stuff that slowly spreads on its plate.

He was in the mk point two suit. Flexing and walking. Getsing used to it. Not bad, not bad at all. Have to know your equipment, helps in survival. Keeps it on minus head part. As it can be used as a space suit. Good es but ft the find where food is at.

Rec room seems like a good place to find food, and sure enough, the guy who bought the Mk II with you is there, thoughtfully staring a tray full of mystery food by a food dispenser. Truly, he must be your soulmate!

Soulmate? To have a soulmate, means one has a soul. This is not the cas as he goes over to hit buttons. Is used to government crap and as he gets his slush takes a seat to eat. Does not bother with grace or anything. As he does not pray, not a man of faith.

First search gives you about million hits, and first couple pages lists a whole bunch of materials and brands you are not familiar with.

[End: 5] The meat thingy is fairly hot and greasy. You can almost feel your arteries clogging. You can't really taste the actual meat under all spices used to spike it up and that effect extends to the side dish too, although it seems to calm the fire in your mouth. The drink is bubbly, as if it's carbonated. Can't say you find its taste pleasant. And the dessert is... fruity. And crunchy. Not terribly bad.

> Yes. But don't expect me to tell.

Perhaps not a soulmate as much as a person who values survival in same manner as you do.

For food you get meaty soup, orange breadroll, cold grayish liquid and a muffin.

Unfortunately the rec room doesn't have very much free chemical ingredients available to make explosives with. You could however make a poor spear by breaking tables and cutting their legs. And maybe if you set couches on fire you could make smoke. Kitchen corner got all tools you need to make food as long as you get ingredients from somewhere.

Yeah, that's about it.

Search ship for scrap metal and rags.

There's no scrap metal anywhere. You could make some by breaking lockers in hangar, but you doubt you can get away with that easily. Rags are equally missing, but then again you could steal clothes from the box in barracks, or bed sheets from there as well. Otherwise you have to ask stuff from someone.

Monoatomix razors and kinamps are the only melee ones listed in armory. You probably have to make your own or steal one. Or perhaps you can find one from the mission site? That would be neat.

The telly has nice wide couches so you go lazing there. The TV remote control is conveniently situated just in arms reach on floor.

Oh, well, no use for rags without scrap metal.

Checks what knives are in the kitchen.

Common hard plastic knives of various sizes and shapes. Easily molten and reshaped should they get dull. If metal is what you desperately need, then perhaps you could ask from the crew if they got any available.

Thank you

Gets crowbar and goes to watch TV in the Rec. room.

Armed with a weapon suitable for keeping too touchy feely inmates away you head back to rec room and flop down on nice soft couch next to John. After picking up the remote you randomly select a channel to watch.

The show currently going on is called The BattleMobs. It's a re-run from time before The Altered Wars featuring genetically engineered or uplifted sub-sapient creatures just smart enough to form a society. They are trained and armed with randomly selected weapons, put on a large enclosed area and told to defeat opposing battle mob species. The two species here are fluffy four armed bunnies and something that resembles a mix of scorpions and giant ants. Commentary shows best pieces of battle mobs forming strategies, skirmishes, enslaving and torturing prisoners of war for information and so on.

This episode ends with victory of scorpion things, featuring them ritualistically eating last captured bunnies. Of course the show makes notion how this kind of gene-engineering is completely illegal under current laws of UWM.

Empty fuel barrel? There are no fuel barrels anywhere in areas you can access, empty or otherwise. But if it's a punching bag you want, the rec room does have a pair in the gym area. You aren't sure why you didn't notice those before.
