Protect the nest!

Spoiler: Sign Up Sheet/Roster (click to show/hide)

About this Game: Firebreath? Sure! Mind control? Why not! These are some really intense ants. You have to imagine though considering that the ants are primarily defensive that means there's some pretty badass bugs.

This is a cooperative defense high score game.

Players: 4 simultaneously
Updates: A few times a week, mutliple some days.
Skips/Kicks: 1 week or majority vote. I vote with everyone.

Here we have the newly discovered ant species, Quad Equues "Four Horse", for the four horsemen of the apacolypse. With a name like that, it should be no surprise that they are quite formidable.

One horseman begins to act strangly at the sight of a worm. Her antenna raised and quivering. But, nothing happens.

Teleport on top of the bug in front of me.
This ability is localized in my abdomen, and it is due to the natural quantum uncertainty that is exhibited on such small scales as ants. Here's the link to my sauce. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sauce)

What? You told me to link to sauce.

Classification
An unclassified ability gains experience slowly. A natural ability, one that exists in real life ants(link to sauce) gains experience fastest. An unnatural ability, one that exists, but only in none ant life forms(link to sauce), has medium experience growth.

Would you prefer some hoisin sauce, for Asian dishes (make sure to use it sparingly, though; it's strong)? Or maybe a nice white sauce, for a fish pasta dish? Red sauce, for your average spaghetti-and-meatballs? Some gravy, or salad dressing? What would you like? I can link you whatever sauces you may desire!

If it's made from jalapenos that can teleport then sure.

(You don't have to do this, this is only if you want to change the class to an identified type for faster XP)

I means that it will show up in your "Show new replies to your posts." thing at the top-left of the page that you are presumably looking at now.

Can I have an ant? Are New arrivals doing abilities at this time?

Ants are full for this session.

But you can be a hostile. You can be whatever you want but the more powerful the longer you'll have to wait to get in.
I'm not doing enemy ants right now but you could be a termite to do basically the same thing if you have your heart set on it.

@Glass

...So there is no teleporting jalapeno? My knees feel wobbly...

Well, we can teleport small objects (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgmWxKAAbvA), and jalapenos are relatively small. Fill in the gaps.

Get the ability to camouflage
This ability is located in my abdomen, and it makes it so my chitin...ah fuck it,i basically want to become a ant with a ability of a chameleon
does that work?
Title: Re: Queen's Soldiers: A nest defense game
Post by: RoseHeart on June 29, 2017, 03:58:43 pm
Eh, before I do the next update I need you(all) to choose your first physical mutation on your(choose 1)head, thorax, or abdomen.

Let me take a moment to explain what the importance of this choice is. For example if you choose a stinger for your abdomen(rear) then all abilities you assign to your abdomen would have to do with your stinger in some way. So you should do this now choosing something that is a physical representation of the ability you have just created.

This is the one physical mutation you will have with this ant later you'll be able to be reborn with the one you have now and an additional one which will give you another tree of abilities. You probably want this first one to be a bit flexible so be creative :)

My teleportation ability is in my head, based around my antennae.
I'm planning on stuff associated with psionics, at least for this part. But less constrained.

Would you say the physical mutation for which all your head abilities will come from is... Psionic Antennae?

I guess my ability is in the Thorax

Prismatic Chitin can be the physical mutation. This would mean any abilities attached to your thorax would have to do with color changing. Perhaps to hide perhaps to intimidate or whatever.

004: My war mandibles would be assigned to head.

 :P

(Do you want your first ability to be called Bite then?)
Title: Re: Queen's Soldiers: A nest defense game
Post by: Glass on June 29, 2017, 07:25:11 pm
Yeah, psionic antennae would work. They'd probably be noticeably different from normal antennae; forked, maybe, or longer.
Title: Re: Queen's Soldiers: A nest defense game

(No, it would be called war mandibles to sound cooler than bite.)

(No, it would be called war mandibles to sound cooler than bite.)

But "war mandibles" is a mutation, which is what I'm asking for right now. Bite would be a descriptive action which is what an ability is. So it would seem you'd want to call the mutation the war mandibles and your ability something if not bite some other action like "war bite" I guess or whatever.

An analogy would be that if you had a ray gun you wouldn't call firing it "ray gun" again. You'd probably call it "laser".

Here we we see an enlarged set of mandibles, being used to capture this ladybud. No purchase and it gets away. She is still learning to make the most of them. Let's see how others are doing...

Quote from: The Mandibles of War
Fig. 1-1
(http://i.imgur.com/rXGTInR.jpg)

Fig. 1-2
(http://i.imgur.com/yzUYZOd.jpg)

Enlarged jaws are seen in several ant genus, such as the trap-jaw ants (Odontomachus (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odontomachus), 1-1) and the dramatic "Supersoldier" morph believed to be dormant (http://publications.mcgill.ca/reporter/2012/01/supersoldier-ants-provide-clue-to-evolution/) in all species of the widespread Pheidole (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pheidole) genus. Fig. 1-2 shows two members of the same colony. Surprisingly, soldiers more appropriately called "major workers" are often shy and use their jaws primarily to carry and break down larger food items like seeds.

Now, you may be surprised to notice the others, do not have enlarged jaws. That is what is truly unique. While all known ant species have a caste system with different roles, Horsemen have such specialization within a single cast of soldiers, you will never know what you will find between individuals.

Cleaning

When you use an ability you improve its' accuracy. You can now clean one of your body parts to improve the speed of the last used ability associated with that part. Both cleaning and using gain experience.

I do not understand this assessment. But I assume it is correct.

But the newest update, where all actions were carried out happened over a week ago. July 2nd.

Edit: the red ring was indicating failure. I didn't explain this because I thought I clarified it when the jaw action didn't work so then it would be inferred for the other actions that the red ring meant the same thing.xD

All actions HAPPENED they just all FAILED!

Somehow - I'm not sure how - I interpreted your post as a player action. I'm so, so sorry. That was really dumb.

Which ant is me, again? I forgot.
Title: Re: Queen's Soldiers: A nest defense game
Post by: RoseHeart on July 10, 2017, 03:39:31 pm
I'm sorry too. I saw this extra credits video maybe a year ago that talked about how the Mario level would explain the instructions by level design. For example you learn to jump because there's a pipe in your way or a Goomba. And you might hit your head on a question block accidentally and then realize their stuff in it. That kind of thing. And I remember how awesome Minecraft was without a tutorial and then all the sudden when they did add it it was like completely crap. So I've tried to take that to heart and try to be super obvious with how things work with my games without explaining it when I can do it but then this can happen! Lol

It's fine. Everyone makes mistakes.
But yeah, which ant am I? I need to know if I'm going to make a turn (which may or may not matter anyway, depending on other people :/).
Title: Re: Queen's Soldiers: A nest defense game
Post by: RoseHeart on July 10, 2017, 03:45:12 pm
Well that you're interested in continuing is enough for now. If others chime in then maybe we will pick up but it may be necessary to reboot.

I mean it actually hasn't been that long and the game was really set up for only a few updates a week.

If you're actually interested I'm sure it would be just as easy for you to find out what your number is then for me to do it. (Especially since I think it's right in the OP)

I'm really sorry for not posting a turn. It's just, I'm involved in a lot of other games right now, and without posts from the other players, I have nothing to remind me to do stuff. I'm sorry; I really am interested in this, but yeah, you'd probably be best served taking this elsewhere. Find some new people on a different forum; maybe you'll be able to run this when you do that.
