Title: Inktober 2017
Post by: Arx on October 01, 2017, 02:31:29 pm
It is that time of year again.

But Arx, what is Inktober?

Every day you draw something, ideally in ink (does it show?). Some people just use the prompts. Some people draw digitally, but on one layer and without using any tools.

But Arx, that's really vague!

Yep! My approach to Inktober is that what you do should involve ink, preferably as the main focus. If you want to do a pencil sketch base, that's alright. If you want to go in YOLO, that's alright. If you want to use gel pens, that's alright. If you want to use your great-grandfather's antique calligraphy set, that's alright. You get the idea.

There are purists and similar things out there, but they confuse and terrify me. I do this for fun and improvement.

But Arx, both those sets of prompts suck...

You don't have to use them! They're just options.

I would say I'll accumulate posted Inktober things here (if you want to share them (please do!)) but that would almost certainly be incorrect.

Oh sweet, i'm not the one having to maintain this thread. :v
Gonna see if i can do better than last year and actually succesfully draw one thing for every day, because last year i failed miserably.

I've been looking forward to this. Always fun to see everyone's art.

This year I've decided to illustrate some of the stories I made up as a kid, while loosely following the prompts. I'll also include a little bit of context for each scene.

I'm using a brush and some acrylic ink, not a marker. That's about it. :P As the ink on the brush depletes, it leaves lighter marks (and less). I can also add a tiny drop of water to the brush to get grey.

Okay... Ink it is, then (I only noticed this by 2017-10-03, and have been super busy this week, so I'm still 2 days behind). Following Arx's Mythical Inktober prompts (though I'll probably be doing some of the main list on my spare time if they look fun ^^)

Haha, have I ranted on it that much? :P Do whatever seems appropriate and works, I don't really mind.

I did not have time to ink anything yesterday. :( I will attempt to catch that up today. I did ink something for day 4, but it really just doesn't bear looking at.

Not that much, but it's something that's come to bother me as well over the last few years, so seeing you have the same opinion made those rants that much more memorable :) (also your note on silently judging those who requested impractical armour in your commission topic ^^)

Those particular faults in the drawing would be a combination of my impatience and ineptitude at using pens. Fun times. :v
Also that is one woody uh... Dude, i think. Must have taken ages to make that bark texture, it's looking nice!

also today i tried a COMPLETELY different style from the usual partly because my mood took a nosedive that would make a Stuka envious and i needed to try something new

Shook, that's actually a pretty interesting style you've given your Mysterious Person there. I quite like it :)

Consider me thoroughly wowed there.

Also for the treant, that was a combination of Treebeard influence, and my own laziness to go for a full beard ^^

Also, Jopax is giving me a mild case of self-consciousness here. Those are incredible!

And my modest contribution... Nymph wasn't particularly inspiring to me (I mean, I'm all for drawing young ladies in various states of disrobement, but nyeh. I really can't figure out how to make that one work)

@karhell: Yep, i try to keep things mostly kid friendly, i'm not ready to leap to boobage just yet. Also that looks like a very friendly cyclops, but i get the feeling that he still kinda wants to smite me. :P

@Karhell no need for kicking yourself like that. The only person you need to be comparing your art to is your yesterdays self, and you've been pretty consistently good here. Also that owlman is giving me some strong Gunerkrigg court vibes.

Thanks :) I actually meant that as more of a slightly self-deprecating praise of your work, but you're absolutely right there. (also, I've never read Gunnerkrigg Court. Might add it to the list. That guy was actually inspired by Fukuro (http://fairytail.wikia.com/wiki/Fukuro) from Fairy Tail (with some substantial modifications) ^^)

Shading on wood elf is good, but those are some LONG arms. :P
Oh god. You're right. Bah, too late to rectify, now. Next one will have t-rex length arms to compensate :P

YES OKAY WHY NOT. I'd probably draw more tits if i didn't have annoying anxiety issues, because tits are nice. Good job lasting through the whole ordeal! :D

also I MADE IT TOO WOO
