Title. I was robbing an abandoned fortress for armor and weapons, and when I returned, they were gone. The companions screen is blank.

When you say returned, did you leave them somewhere, or were they following you into the Fort?

I left them on the roof while I was looking through the trade depot near the entrance, then I went away and left them on the roof because you need to move away from the site with stolen items. Then I came back and they were gone.

Perhaps they are elsewhere in the area? Their exact location may have changed when the area was saved/reloaded. Also go Z(Wait) and exit/re-enter the area a couple times, cause sometimes weird things happen.

In the end, I typed "die" in DFhack and reloaded.

This happened to me too. Took 4 companions to a fortress. 2 were stranded outside because they couldn't path in for some reason. I went in with the other 2. When I came out again, the first 2 had disappeared. I even went back to the hamlet I recruited them and they were not there. Just simply vanished.

Happened to me as well. It verges on being a game-breaking bug, as they often disappear at night, precipitating a very unbalanced battle against bogeymen.
