Title: JumpStakes: Fortress of Blisters
Post by: TheLostCow on April 25, 2018, 04:12:24 am
Hi, I've been playing DF for (hopefully) long enough that I feel comfortable with the game and I'm looking to see if anyone wants to start a succession game. I'm fine with anyone playing, and if some people sign up for this, I'll make a poll to see where we should start, and maybe the tileset used. In the highly unlikely situation that anyone signs up for this, we'll be using these rules:

Aside from that, anything goes!

Turn order:

Settings for people playing:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

edit: If you would like a named dwarf, just add it in on your turn, or request if you aren't playing. Overseers of the fort get priority.

Okay, sign me up. Succession games come with a bit of waiting, so I'm thinking about signing up for another one. I'm pretty tolerant when it comes to embarking, so anything goes. As for a dwarf's perspective, I'd like to take up a miner/engraver.

As long as I can play with vanilla ASCII tiles.

I'm pretty used to play vanilla. I don't know about settings in various plugins, but editing d_init.txt works for population caps:

[POPULATION_CAP:50] This cap stops immigrants.
[STRICT_POPULATION_CAP:75] This cap stops births. (edit: In addition to stopping immigrants.)

FakerFangirl, I’m pretty sure that it’s possible to update save games in the lazy newb pack, but as this has been known to cause corruption you’ll need to backup your fort often. No problem there though.

edit: Thinking on it, it might be a good idea for me to learn to play properly using ASCII

Mind if I take a turn? I'm a tad green behind the ears DF-wise, but halfway competent at this point.

Dorfwise, I'd like a male woodcutter/axedwarf by the name of Thorgrim.

Hello there, GPeter, signing up for a turn Sir! Just dont make me finish a pump stack please... (Haven't fully learned those yet :c ) Also, get a miner named after me, will ya?

I'd reccomend you wait till the next update for stress tweaks

Hi, sorry I haven’t updated this, thought it’d be dead. I’ll add the names, if anyone has any ideas for the kind of area we’d like to start in, let me know and I’ll gen the world asap  :)

Evil region, mountain preferably!

Ooh boy, evil biomes...
Mind if I check to see if it’s reanimating first? I’ve had a lot of problems embarking in them :/
Title: Re: Anyone interested in starting a succession game?
Post by: GPeter on May 29, 2018, 08:04:12 pm
I acctually want reanimating! It add a lot more to the fun! Don't know about the others though...
Title: Re: Anyone interested in starting a succession game?
Post by: TheLostCow on May 29, 2018, 09:34:57 pm
Eh, i guess I’ll be fine so long as I take some kind of combat dwarf to sacrifice. Hopefully no undead giant wrens this time
Title: Re: Anyone interested in starting a succession game?
Post by: GPeter on May 30, 2018, 06:08:53 am
If you don't want to deal with the undeads at the beggining, you can have someone start the world in the first turn, and then you takeover on the second turn, or that overseer former turn, I don't know, It's up to you...
Title: Re: Anyone interested in starting a succession game?
Post by: Kametec_Housen on May 30, 2018, 06:41:48 am
I don't mind doing first turn in a reanimating biome. All I need are ores to make bronze from. Also, I'd like to see either some surface water (lake, river) or an aquifer on the embark. We're bound to get some injuries with the omnipresent undead and I don't want our macedwarf die to thirst the moment something breaks his leg or something.

Oh, and husking clouds are a neat addition to reanimating biome. Can we have those too? ;D

edit: All I need are ores to make bronze from and either bituminous coal or lignite.
Title: Re: Anyone interested in starting a succession game?
Post by: GPeter on May 30, 2018, 07:57:26 am
Ita best to bring bituminous coal because they yield more coke than lignite and cost the same on embark.

That's true, but after a I spent whole afternoon worldgening in order to get both embark and civ I wanted I learned: Meh, good enough.

Hmm...
Ok, I'll generate the world over the weekend and try and get my turn out of the way before exams roll around. Hopefully I can afford a mace on embark, but if there's anything you guys might need in particular let me know. Here's to hoping we get a site with decent metals and no insta-death.

edit: I guess it's probably time for me to toughen up and learn the default tileset. But there's nothing you can do to get me to relinquish dwarf therapist. I'm kinda stuck to dfhack (mainly cause I looooove the workflow options) but I guess I could attempt to leave it out.
Title: Re: Anyone interested in starting a succession game?
Post by: GPeter on May 30, 2018, 11:28:35 am
There's no need to let go from DFHack, I use it a lot too, just dont go for scripts like "reveal", now that's too much!
Title: Re: Anyone interested in starting a succession game?
Post by: Caesar Josephus on May 30, 2018, 11:41:12 am
Dwarf Therapist helps me get through traumatic times. A session with it really helps. Too bad I can't get it to work for me.

Sign me up. Strangely, I seem to consistently be taking middle turns.

For embark make the site as big as your computer can handle. I love having big embark sites. They allow for huge projects.

WARNING: I haven't figured out military yet.

Title: Re: Anyone interested in starting a succession game?
Post by: GPeter on May 30, 2018, 12:04:38 pm
If kametec feels really full of turns right now, I don't mind being first, I've got some free time now, especially cause tomorrow It's holiday here in Brazil, so if you want me to make gen the world for you, I would have no problem!
Title: Re: Anyone interested in starting a succession game?
Post by: Caesar Josephus on May 30, 2018, 12:36:12 pm
I think I'm decent on starting up a fort. I don't really have any experience with developed fort though. If I can, can I get moved up on turn order? If not that's just fine, it's about time I got some time with an intermediate fort. Whoever is coming after should be surprised if I accidentally breach a cavern and let in a GCS without taking proper measures.
Title: Re: Anyone interested in starting a succession game?
Post by: TheLostCow on May 30, 2018, 06:08:50 pm
Ok, I'll switch up the order so we can start earlier and so I don't stuff everything up. GPeter, maybe max size 4x5? My computer's kinda rubbish, but it should be able to handle that.

edit: oh yeah I was going to do this on my turn, but could you dorf me in as the expedition leader, "Kaemurl"? Thanks.
Title: Re: Anyone interested in starting a succession game?
Post by: GPeter on May 30, 2018, 08:47:29 pm
No problem, I'll gen the world by now, just a question, do you guys mind if I create a small world? We're just going to focus on the Fortress anyway, and It kinda helps with FPS a little...
Title: Re: Anyone interested in starting a succession game?
Post by: TheLostCow on May 30, 2018, 09:40:50 pm
That’d actually be great, I tend to go for 3x3 or 2x2 depending on how long the fort is going to get played.

My reports usually go from the perspective of a dwarf, so, if you see something written in this color, it means It's a commentary of me, not the dwarf!

JumpStake Fortress, Officer GPeter report:
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

So, we're going to settle down in a quite forgotten area, no one goes there, they say the mountain is haunted... that's why we're going to build a fortress there, if this "curse" can't take us down, nothing can! For the glory of Armok... I'm just pissed that we couldn't decide our fortress name, what kind of fucking elvish name is "JumpStakes"? Whatever... The queen has guaranteed trading caravans and everything, and also some supllies including a map of the place:

Our Map:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our Supllies:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Not much... but enough.

15Th of Granite

We've finally made it, upon stoping the wagon, something immediately gets my atention:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There's a little shack built here, out of Sea Lamprey Leather Wall...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A whole lot of them, one even got a campfire on it! Apparently we're not the first in here, I just hope that whoever built this, be friendly, or be dead...

Our expedition leader here is "Kaemurl" but I'm acctuallly the one who give the orders around here, all he does is cut trees and brew booze, the last one is pretty important, but we'll assume he's not going to stop doing it for anything, so whatever.

Beyond Kaemurl, here we have me. I used to be an Axedwarf on our fortress, but as we got peace with the... elves... I had to become a Miner now... and we also have these guys:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Well, time to work, I gathered the other miners and started doing some digging, we're not lingering outside much anymore, I heard this mountain has rains that make you spit your guts! I don't really believe it, but I'm definitely not staying outside to confirm it!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'll tell our mason to establish himself on the workshop we're digging below, we need some doors ASAP.

Well shit, it was true... Unfortunately, our carpenter was outside when this happened... She started having some fever and some nasty wounds...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Pretty nasty... but not lethal at least, just hope it's not contagious...

As we don't have any door available to put on the entrance to be able to seal us off, I ordered a wall to be built on the entrance, no one is going out while we don't have a door, or that mucus rain stop!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

But apparently, Kaemurl wanted to show who's boss here, and now has the same wounds, pretty fucking smart dude...

Well, our mason is established now that the workshop is dug, so I told him to make some doors.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

For those who didn't understand my workshop design, it works like this:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Door set up, and forbidden, it's still raining out there, I just hope it doesn't take too long, people will start to get thirsty soon...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I also begun digging a farm area
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Soon we'll have mushroons to brew, aside from the ones we brought from far.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I'll continue later, It's getting late now and I'm getting drowzy, tomorrow I'll try to get my turn finished, if not, then on the weekend it will be.

Thank Armok it's not reanimating!

Or is it?

I know I said I was going to sleep, but then I said, "Just 5 more minutes" and here we are...

JumpStake Fortress, Officer GPeter report:
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I dug out a main storage area opposit to our workshop to put everything we brought
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now, all there's left outside are the coal we brought on embark, we're not using those now, so they can stay outside, I'm locking the door, we're going to dig to the caves for wood from fungiwood, NO ONE is going outside anymore...

Meanwhile, I noticed our pack animals getting hungry, I can't let them stay outside to graze, because of the mucus rain, so it's best to just butcher them already, put them out their misery...
I'm also doing this to find out if we got a reanimating biome or not

So... after Kaemurl butchered a camel, one the most weirdest and horrifying things happened right before my eyes, the skin and the FUCKING HAIR OF THE CAMEL GAINED LIFE AND TRIED TO ATTACK US!!!! Apparently, Skin and Hair can punch, somehow, anyway, we got rid of them... Gotta take note, everything that dies on this mountain, comes back to life.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our farmer did get wounded though...

Again, not a lethal wound, so get back to work!

Now... we still don't have any beds, that's going to be a problem in the future, but not anymore:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Here in Brazil, we have a saying "Nunca cante vitória cedo demais" wich could be translated to "Never claim victory too early"

Upon first look at the cave, I yelled in so much anger...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

THERE'S NO FUNGIWOOD DOWN HERE! AND IT WILL TAKE AN ETERNITY FOR THEM TO GROW FROM NOW...

Fuck it, we gonna have to go for plan B, I'm digging a new workshop to house our carpentry industry, and when it get ready, we'll go out to cut down some trees and quickly get all the wood inside.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
No, we're not.

Ahhh, gotta wait for that rain to end...

Meanwhile, I dug out a small garbage chute, to dump every corpse that may try to rise and kill us, so we dump It before it even rises:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And down those corpses go:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Apparently, everyone's dumping the corpses on the little ramp instead of down the hole, so I ordered a floor to be built above the ramp, and problem solved.

Ok, the rain stopped, we'll try to get some wood now, the stockpile is set, now we just need to go outside and chop down some trees, and by "we" I mean Kaemurl:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I must admit that I kinda freaked out when I saw a bunch S's running towards Kaemurl, but they were just Flying Squirrels...

Now everyone go for the wood logs, those are our beds!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

BUUUUUUT, as we dashed outside, It started raining mucus again (It can be seen on the GIF) and now everyone got blisters on the whole body, but at least we've got wood!

As we were bringing the wood inside, something went through my mind. We don't have a still yet! And our booze supply should be close to the end by now, so We're building one right now, beds are important, but booze is FAR more.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now that the wood stockpile is full, the front door can be locked again...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Ok, now I'm going to sleep for real, It's 01:28 AM here, dammit, Dwarf Fortress is so addicting...

Should be safe as long as no one deconstructs the wall there. Although might wanna put some fortifications further up the wall incase of climbers. And eventually dump magma down there regularly.

Magma solves all problems :)

Crap reanimation though! Gonna make all attackers attack more than once.

I probably wont get it on my turn, but the neaxt overseers could work on a big hallway for the entrance, one that could be flooded in lava just in case
Title: Re: JumpStakes: Fortress of Blisters
Post by: TheLostCow on May 31, 2018, 07:33:35 pm
I’ll probably do that, but I might get distracted and look for materials for steel and train up a legendary armorsmith. I’ve found armour to be useful against undead, although maybe silver maces would be better. If we have silver. Let’s just hope.

JumpStake Fortress, Officer GPeter report:
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Now that we got wood, our carpenter already started making some beds, while we dig some bedrooms for everyone

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As we were digging, Kaemurl started yelling:
Unlock the door! There's people out there!

At first I thought that he was crazy, but then I looked outside and HOLY CRAP, there's people outside, unlock the door!

Apparently, we have migrants, people might be thinking this place is safe already... There's seven of them:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm getting 2 Furnace operators, 1 Blacksmith, an extra carpenter and a mason/stonecrafter a dedicated hauler and another farmer

Ahh, so you're a Great Leatherworker? Awesome, you're going to look great smelting metal!

They got inside, EVERYONE full of blisters around the whole body, and I said "Welcome to JumpStake"

Now, all of the bedrooms are dug, but need furnishing, and we have 2 carpenters now, so I told them guys to assemble another carpenter workshop
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We've are getting quite cramped here when it comes to storing stuff, we need a stockpile for our furniture specially, so we're digging one.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And also, this happened:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Damm birds...

Also, as Kaemurl isn't really doing much in here, I told him to do some Stockpile records and manage the work orders I give, we gave him a chair and table at least...

The bedrooms are ready:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We dug out another workshop for our smelters, and put a stockpile to hold our ore beside it, there's two smelters active right now, both making coke
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sorry guys, there's nothing this year... I did order some food, booze and ammo for next year.

This is what they asked for the next year:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We don't have a dining hall yet, and that's quite nasty, so we're also digging one, wich also will be Kaemurl office now, soon he'll get a decent offfice...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We lost a couple of animals recently
(https://i.imgur.com/cKV1B0s.png)

I just hope they've been lost outside, an undead horse would probably be nasty...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Guess who forgot to lock the door? Well fuck...

The zombie is right outside, so I had to lock the door... poor Adil...
We might be able to save him yet, I ordered a few tunnels to de dug from the inside towards out of the mountain, in diferent directions, those will serve as emergency ways into and out of the mountain:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I just hope Adil survives long enough for this...

Seriously? 6 more mouth to feed... I will se If I can get some of these guys to train as a militia, but right now my biggest concern is that undead outside.

Well... we've got a SERIOUS problem here, giant wolverines are already a problem while alive, but now, as an undead, they pose a great threat to an unarmored dwarf, which in our case, everyone, and it is exactly on the path the migrants took to come inside the fortress:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

All I can do now, is dig that tunnel ASAP, we need more ways in and out of the fortress, with multiple entraces, It gets quise easy to run away from them.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

Apparently, the dwarves thought they could do it, but they couldn't now we have a pile of dead dwarves (which will soon rise again) and an undead Giant Wolverine that even has a name now, "ônamvukcas Vathsithartum" the bane of JumpStake!

Ok, we're not done yet, but from now on, NO ONE will step outside, and I mean it. I locked the front door, and already doors to be placed on the tunnels, also locked.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now for the body count, currently, we have 6 already dead, and one miner bleeding out on the ground on the outer part of the south tunnel, poor bastard, we can't do anything for him, so we'll get his pick already.

Considering the 6 dwarves that arrived earlier, we basically lost just one.

All things considered, it could have been worse...

We already have some slabs being built, as we cannot bury anyone here...

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I had a little confusion with the date, because I embarked on winter, so the turns are from one winter to another, and It's already Autumm, so my turn is close to an end by now!

You'd best make iron armor and weapons real quick for a stopgap against the undead. Are maces or hammers better against them?

Pretty sure it’s maces, since they mangle the corpse.

Ok a couple of quick things
1. I'm probably going to change the tileset for my turn to make it easier not to kill everyone. I'll change it back when I'm done.
2. I have a nasty habit of ordering too much food. Any clues on farm production?

As the slabs to remember our fallen were engraved, I gathered who I could, and started digging a workshop for our forges, one of the smelters Is so filled with coke bars that the guy can't even work...

As digging progresses slowly, the last of the memorial slabs has been put into place on our dining hall:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I noticed something strange while paying respects to dead. I didn't see Doren name on any of them (Doren was the miner I left to die on the south tunnel little while ago)

But he's not dead boss... He's right here!

WHAT THE FUCK? How did you survive that?

I dunno, I just got up and came back inside...

Ok... I give up.

Winter's here, and I'm done, I need a nap...

If it helps, I'm trying to use the LNP, but when I get into the game the save just doesn't show up. I've tried downloading it again and all but it still doesn't work. If someone could tell me how to get dfhack and dwarf therapist to work with the download from bay12 that might work.

edit: It says "broken RAWs"

Overseer's log

1st of Moonstone

Expedition leader Kaemurl here. Now that I've finally got rid of that GPeter for a few months, maybe we can start getting something done.

Well, it's raining almost immediately, so that's good news. Of course, since I'm the only one out of our sorry bunch that knows how to swing an axe, I've got to go out first. An interesting phenomena has occured. It seems like the damned repellent mucus only rains over half of our designated area, and the undead appear to only show up in that portion. Maybe they're connected...

Some IDIOT neglected to notify me there were HOLES in the roof. Who knows what would have got through them if I hadn't put my foot in one.

After patching those holes up and expanding the wood stockpile, I feel we're in good shape compared to last year. Almost feels like we should be starting to make some steel and weapons, maybe even find a few fisherdwarves brave idiots to join me in the military.

11th Moonstone

Hmph. We've run out of booze. Well, plump helmets have to be good for something, the damn things taste horrible, but, then again so do rotten grapes. I'll have to remember to keep some around.

In other news, there's a ton of iron ores lying around, and our fort is dug into a flux stone layer. Miners have been ordered to dig out some of the limonite so GPeter can learn to make armour and weapons. He sure does seem to love steel, so hopefully I'll get a few masterworks from him before he gets eaten by something.

OOC: I'll post again soon, just wanted to give the impression that I'm staying faithful and doing nothing with my life

12th Moonstone

Time to get a depot up I think. I've ordered a long hallway carved out with a 7x7 room at the end, but just in case those bloody undead come back, I've told our metalsmith to construct some iron bridges to be raised in case of emergency. They should be resistant to magma if that ever when that comes in handy.
Well, now it's raining mucus again, so I guess it's time to call everyone back inside so we can get back to work.

18th Moonstone.

The depot has been set up, and I've only just noticed no-one knows how to use mechanisms. That's the carpenter's issue now, he'll have plenty of spare time. The second one was sitting around on his ass, so I've told him to get to work cooking some of those blasted mushrooms.
I think it's about time we look for the next cavern, it might have some wood in it. I've asked the mason to make some pots and stone cabinets as well, seeing as we're low on wood.

13th Opal

At last, some steel! Also, someone cluttered up the smelters with over 300 bars of coke. Note to self: have a word with them.
Our cook's decided to start producing some higher quality roasts, and thankfully we have enough cave fish to last a while. It's a shame we don't have any cats, they make an excellent food source.

OOC: I'll update this tomorrow to be more of a journal look, and I'll put some pictures in as well.

18th Opal

We're running dangerously low on food. Some of the lads have started complaining about the rationed servings, so they've been sent to stick their hands in the mucus and pull up some plants. It's a shame we can't get any good meat round here, most of it's walking around rotten. The new mechanic has been working away satisfactorily, finally making enough mechanisms to link up the bridges and levers. I'm still on booze duty for the moment, which I must admit is getting boring.

21st Opal

GPeter seems to have an affinity for steel. He's already producing fairly well made axes, and some half decent armour. We might have a chance at surviving here after all. We've all organised a meeting to decide who the militia commander will be, although it's a foregone conclusion.
Note: After talking with him, it seems GPeter spent some time in the military back home, and has a fairly good idea on how to use a battleaxe (although not as much as me, of course)

1st Obsidian

After a brief accident involving someone getting hit in the face with a bridge, I've put labels on all the levers to make sure no-one messes up.
Apparently, the other guys thing GPeter would be better as a militia commander, as he's "the only one with ACTUAL military experience". I'll show them.

15th Obsidian

Steel production is continuing well, along with kitting out me and GPeter. Hopefully we'll have some more recruits soon.

When collecting plants, one of the farmers noticed an undead peregrine falcon flying around so I guess that's the end of our brief period of safety.

1st Granite

Spring is here! The snow has stopped falling, the plants are growing and we might even be able to admire it all if there wasn't a thick coating of blister inducing mucus everywhere. Where does that stuff even come from? Is there a god above us with a cold?

4th Granite

GPeter is becoming insubordinate, so he's been put on smoothing and engraving duty. My room first of course. He might get let off a bit early though, as he has been producing some high quality armour for me.

6th Granite

Tragedy has only narrowly been averted. A portion of the roof fell in when one of the farm plots was being converted for above-ground plants, no doubt due to GPeter's shoddy mining. Unfortunately, he only got only got a bruise or two out of it. Back to business then.

11th Granite

ARGH! Everyone got caught in the mucus rain again, despite my clear orders. Now I have to deal with a bunch of whiners for a week or two.
Worryingly, some of them have developed a fever, so a hospital has been set up to hopefully prevent infection. The idiots were wading through piles of mucus to wash themselves off, then going back through it, so I've made access to water easier.

16th Granite

The elves have arrived! As much as I'd love to butcher them, we simply don't have the training yet. Hopefully we can buy either some soap or some plants off them.

16th Granite

Of course, no-one in the fort knows how to value goods. Meh, anything the elves bring can't be worth much to begin with.
A human monster hunter came by, asking if they could stay "for monster eradication". The only monsters here are us! Filthy freeloading humans. The best they can do against undead is act as fodder.

23rd Granite

It appears the tragedy averted before was a stroke of good luck. Not so now. Mucus has rained in through the hole in the roof, causing many of us to develop blisters and some limbs to become mangled. We are working on treatment as I write, although I feel this could have been avoided fairly easily.

OOC: OHGODWHATHAVEIDONE. Yeah so some of the dwarves have mangled limbs, I'm not sure whether they can recover or not (it's only from blisters) Any helpful suggestions would be amazing, I just hope the next player can clean up my mess. Also, the water I'm using for cleaning is stagnant, and I'm considering looking in the caverns for clean water. Again, ideas are very welcome and probably necessary.

Definitely go for cavern water, just make sure you have a way of locking the cave in case of any undead cave crocs, and please, don't make simply a straight tunnel into the cave, I mean, dig straight, make a long hallway filled with cage traps or something and doors, so you're able to lock it down when danger rises.

The extended story is somewhat a good idea, but we need screenshots!

4th Slate

Well, some migrants showed up, which increased our population to 34. 34!! You'd think people saw something in this place.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

They've brought a bunch of mucus in on their shoes, but worst of all, we even had to go out to rescue them. Just about everyone's going to be in hospital for a few days now.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Drat. Well, she's now a legendary engraver and is churning out masterwork engravings, so that's good.

I spotted a cheese maker being carried in, he's already been drafted into the military with us. There are some miners to take over from GPeter so he can make us some weapons and help... train... us.

Most notably, we got a talented armorsmith, who will be joining GPeter in outfitting our 3 person military. We've almost completed one set of armor, although I'm still waiting on some good quality axes. One of the migrants has a small amount of experience with maces, maybe we should make some to deal with the undead.

7th Slate

We breached the second cavern and guess what.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

NO FUNGIWOOD HERE EITHER! AAAAAAARGH!

9th Slate

Military training has been started, but on my way to the training session today I noticed a bunch of layabouts in the dining hall. Do you see me being lazy? Anyway, they've been sent to smooth out the bedrooms, maybe everyone will stop complaining so much.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

10th Slate

A third cavern layer has been discovered, and finally, FINALLY, we have some fungiwood.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Unfortunately, we can't explore the cavern as there is a passage leading downwards, and we have no idea what could be down there. The cavern itself is also very steep, meaning we can't see very far down.

26th Slate

A thresher has been hit with a strange mood, and she's grabbed a craftsdwarf's workshop and some gypsum. Hopefully they won't claim it as an heirloom, then we might be able to sell it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

13th Felsite

I've had a few more smelters put up, just to keep up with the voracious rate steel is being consumed.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Rigoth (the engraver) has produced almost 30 50 masterworks now, and only engraved a few rooms.

A trap hallway is being carved out in case of a siege, and we're using the lead from galena smelting to make cages, seeing as wood is very low from bed making.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

OOC: Ok I've been doing this for a few hours straight, imma stop now.

1st Hematite

Summer is here, hopefully a human caravan will show up soon. Almost everyone has a masterwork engraving or two in their room now (except GPeter), and the military equipment is almost completed. Steel production is up and the next issue we have to tackle is food. Nothing can be slaughtered because most animals are pets, and would turn into undead anyway. Probably going to dump them into the caverns soon. Hopefully the humans bring more food than the elves.

23rd Hematite

Well, steel is being produced quickly and the military are going to be sent on a mission to raid an elven settlement soon, hopefully we'll get better training than GPeter is currently providing. Still, apparently unmotivated by our displays of strength and agility, there's a bunch of slackers in the dining room. I've put out a suggestion box near the workshops to see what the people putting in some real effort want to happen.

OOC: so um I have no idea what to do with these guys, and I don't get a vote since I'm being unproductive and setting up my standard ritual murder pit. Photos later!

15th Malachite

Not much time to write, as we will depart for the elven retreat of Clamlakes shortly. Much has happened in the past month. Notably, our miners discovered both the magma sea and the precious adamantine within. Although we have not taken the correct precautions for harvesting it yet, it has been noted. After a close shave with some undead goats (luckily no-one was injured) extra precautions are being taken, and spear traps are being installed in the exit hallways.

Some of the lads are missing clothes, so I've planted some pig tails. They're coming along quite nicely.

16th Galena

I haven't had much time to write in here, since we've been sent on missions to raid elven settlements almost constantly. The idiots are using wooden weapons against us, leading to the absolute slaughter of one retreat. GPeter's starting to rack up some kills, though I'm unsure how many.

28th Galena

Oh dear. We returned from a mission to raze Clamlakes, only to find an undead troglodyte attacking a glassmaker. Nil, our newest recruit was first on the scene, where he was knocked out with one punch to the neck. He might survive. The galssmaker wasn't so lucky. GPeter finished the damned thing off with a chop to the neck, decapitating it. Another one for him...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAHHAHAHAH! The severed head of the Troglodyte came back to life and attacked the other axedwarf! He instantly cut out the back of the throat, killing it permanently. Still made me laugh to watch it happening.

Note: the swordsdwarf is dead. His throat was apparently cut open in the attack, but he died while unconscious so it's not all bad.

OOC: sorry about the lack of photos, thumbdrive's gone missing just now and I'm freaking out.
OOC: Ah jeez really sorry about the amount of effort going into these, I'm trying to juggle a bunch of stuff. Everything's going pretty much fine in the fort now, and I'm setting up an enclosed well outside.
Title: Re: JumpStakes: Fortress of Blisters
Post by: TheLostCow on June 13, 2018, 03:30:38 am
I'm so done. All I can do now is wait so the next person can try and clean up my mess.

Brief summary:
For some reason noone dumped any corpses, so they kept coming back to life and killing people. There have now been 5 claimed by the attack. There's blood everywhere and half the military is gone. I'm literally going to station them on the stairs and wait for winter.

Edit: The caravan came, bearing about 10000 dwarfbucks worth of food. We traded away some low quality armour for all of it. The undead are still being dealt with, but here's the trade agreement for what it's worth.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So something pretty amazing happened, which means the fort might have hope after all. Almost there, I hope Kametec can clean up after me.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And the corpses are reanimating and climbing out of the pit, only to die and fall back down. Lovely.

Almost free! Well, on the third last day an FB turned up, but I think it's stuck in the caverns for now. Some masterwork armour has been coming out, and GPeter's now an axelord (dirty bastard) while Kaemurl's still only competent with an axe.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sorry about these recent reports, the fort + real life is kinda depressing
