Title: Announcements problem (noob question)
Post by: FluffyVixen on February 11, 2020, 04:01:36 pm
Kinda frustrated with current announcement system. I always get spammed with useless notification like masterpiece creation or job cancellations (thankfully, second can be turned off) while missing actually important and critical events like dwarfs getting attacked, injured or infected with syndromes. As far as I know those can only be manually viewed on reports and healthcare screens respectfully. and usually when it's already too late. I am asking for a way to polish announcement screen to make it more useful for my gameplay (vanilla or modded) to avoid situations like this (pic related).

Soundsense will play you combat sound fx whenever there's combat. Some people find that helps.

You should be aware of the problem with disabling job cancellation messages: it's not unusual for them to spam for a reason you actually need to address, or the fortress may grind to a more or less complete halt because everyone is caught up in grabbing jobs and immediately drop them again, grab/drop... Or, even worse, just stand rooted spamming because they're too stupid to realize the thing they hauled can no longer be delivered to its destination, but still trying.

You can try changing announcements.txt, in the init folder, to be more of your liking.

Also Soundsense helps.

Announcement Window+ (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=153777) gives you a separate window with custom-filtered announcements.

Yeah, everyone goes through this at some point once they have enough dwarfs in their fort. Any of the posted tools will work and you can combine combat and non-combat log entries into one output stream, and filter out all of the stuff you consider unimportant.

I filter out all of the non-damaging combat entries and many job manager outputs, so unless there is an actual fight, the only things that appear in my separate "log" window are important and they appear immediately, not delayed in the main DF window.
