In 47.03 I'm reclaiming an old ruined Fort that worldgen created. It was founded in year 25 (its now 250) and was conquered at some point but now empty.
There's a bunch of priests inside and around the fort. I assume they are priests, they have job titles like "Holy Number", "Sacred Truth", or "Holy Aunt". They are marked as "Hostile" in the units overview. They are not armed, and do not seem to attack my dwarfs. Upon discovering one by wandering the old fort, it pauses the game and gives the Ambush! message. I tried stationing a military dwarf next to one and he didn't start a fight with one. The priests don't seem to want to do anything, or go anywhere. So far I've encountered five, three are human, one dwarf, and a goblin. I'm worried killing them would anger some random civ.
The fort had a trade depot. It look occupied or at least full of shit when I showed up. I can't interact with it (to transfer items) but my broker can stand awkwardly in it. I can't deconstruct it either, in spite of having a dwarf with carpentry. It also says traders cannot access it.
The special zones are also intact upon showing up. The surface inn is open, and shortly received guests. There's also five guilds... somewhere.
There's also approximately 236 metalsmith's forges. One for every citizen I imagine.

Do you know if you can look at building contents to see what’s inside the trade depot? And what happens if you collapse the ground under it? (Make a backup save for this action...) also any artifices on-site perhaps?

I was able to empty it with the "t" menu, which I honestly never used before. I knew of using q to transfer items for trade but apparently you can only do that if there's actually a merchant there.
I haven't tried destroying it via cave in, but I just built another trade depot, which the dwarf trader used just fine.
The only artifacts on site were three scrolls, I am not certain where they actually are. There's a ton of display cases here and there, but two of the descriptions mention a water covering. Either they are outside or in the cavern waters somehow.

There's a long standing bug with reclaimed sites that the inhabitants are (frequently (?), always(?)) passively hostile.
The "priests" are probably necro experiments.

Those are priest names, not experiment names. Experiments get "demon", "fist of", "soldier of", etc. Never "holy".

Was the trade depot forbidden?

Was the trade depot forbidden?
It was, actually.
I had to learn how to unforbid buildings so a mood struck dwarf could claim one of the hundreds of metalsmith forges to do his thing.

Yeah that'll do it. Third thing I do when I reclaim a fort is (d) (b) (c) for mass reclaim glory
