Hello,
I'm noticing a lot of outcasts in my worlds, and I was wondering why that might be. I've made two different small worlds in the last few days and rummaged around in legends viewer a bit for both of them. They both have wayyy more outcasts than citizens for every civ. One dwarven civ had 50,000 outcasts and only 7,000 citizens!
When I played the last version there were lots of outcasts, but I don't think there where quite as many as I'm noticing in this version. I normally don't play with werebeasts and have added them in the last few worlds I've made, so that could have something to do with the huge increase I'm noticing.
So my questions are: who are all these outcasts, and what are they up to? I've heard their numbers are mostly composed of vamps, werebeasts, and gangs. Are zombies, the new undead experiments and undead lieutenants counted in those numbers? has anyone else noticed a pretty huge increase in outcasts, or does it probably have to do with me playing with werebeasts on?
I feel like I've been noticed more bandit and necromancer factions this version. My guess is the new villain mechanics have made, well villains for lack of a better word, seek to consolidate power and create their own little factions more often than in previous versions.
But maybe the outcast increase is just from me adding the werebeasts. Thanks for any info you have.

The new undead are listed as their base race in the tower populations, so "dwarf", "goblin", etc, and when they arrive at your fort they are labelled "dwarf undead_type". Within non-tower sites, I do not know how they are listed.
I don't know what all the outcasts represent, but in my worlds usually there are many fewer. I only run about 125 years of history. How many years is your world?

In my world at year 270ish, each town has little camps around it. When I ask the people in those camps why they're travelling, they usually say "I am escaping from danger which threatened my former home." So I assume that the outcasts are essentially refugees, and the game doesn't have an efficient system for reabsorbing those refugees back into towns and civilizations.
Malroc, how old was the world where you had 50k outcasts?

The current world I'm playing on I let run for 750 years, and it has at least double the number of outcasts as citizens for all the civs. The world with 50,000 outcasts I let run for 500 years.

That's what I suspected. If you play that world as an adventurer, I bet you'll find thick rings of tents around all the cities. And I bet that most of them are elves, since they don't die from old age.

I'll have to go exploring in adventure mode. Kinda sad to think about, thousands of refugees surrounding cities never getting to rejoin the civ. Someday I'm sure it'll change, maybe with that map rewrite.
