A question just popped into my head:
How do elves keep warm? What do they burn?
-
Elves steal the beard hairs of dwarfs in their sleep. They burn them in specially grown wood pots, creating dwarven charcoal. The elves feign shock and horror at the site of charcoal and dead trees in an attempt to corner the wood market. Insidious.
-
Given that elves enslave animals and plants alike, they can force the trees to grow into houses and animals to give up their body warmth to them inside said houses.
-
Elves nest in trees, like birds. At night, they huddle together for warmth. But since they can't fly, it's easy for an adventurer to climb up into their trees and slaughter them a dozen at a time.
-
Elves nest under a great amount of cloth rags in hopes that they survive the night. Freezing to death is just as natural for them as dying of old age is for us.
-
I though elves would grab a stick from the ground and cuddle with for warmth, or just hump on a tree.
-
Elves are friends of nature. Why would the cold hurt them?
-
Remember the horse scene from The Revenant? Yeah, like that.

I've played around with an idea for an elf expansion mod where the elves use solar "magic," focused by cut gemstones, instead of magma for advanced workshops. How do they get gemstones when they aren't known for their mining operations? Well, why do you think those traders keep visiting smelly, drunk, tree-murdering dwarves year after year?
