Title: Socialization
Post by: Malroc The Valiant on July 29, 2020, 02:57:26 pm
Why do dwarves only socialize in certain places? Why cant two dwarven scholars pause listening to a story to discuss astronomy over some lukewarm dwarven ale/ Why can't dwarves bump into each other in the hallway and stop to exchange a quick story or some pleasantries? Do they and I just don't notice because of what information is available to the player? If I don't have one of the locations people socialize at will my dwarves never become friends?

I guess it makes sense they only socialize in certain areas, otherwise they'd probably choose to do that all the time instead of work. Do they talk to each other while they work? Will my weapons smiths all become friends? How does the socializing mechanic work I guess is my general question. Thanks for any answers ya'll have.

Note that "Socialize" task doesn't mean they're talking to each other either - they need to be adjacent to each other for that to happen. After 50 talks, they progress their relationship. (Socialize task itself is, like "Worship", a paused hold while the dwarf selects a task to do from list of possibilities).

Pairs of miners do tend to become fast friends, for example, so yeah they presumably do talk to other in the hallway a bit.
