IC Thread Rules



IC Rules
1. Format: Use your portrait, font color, and a pair of "quotation marks", and follow any species requirements. You can play around a bit with the formatting to be more expressive.
2. Cooperation: Any strategic discussion must be held here in the IC thread, baring species exceptions.
3. Actions: Use bold to indicate an action statement in the IC thread, unless you have an ability that can be used in secret, which will override a public action you've declared if they conflict.
4. RP-lite: Your character knows as much as you do, so there's no need to roleplay ignorance and they can break the 4th wall. Any RP limitations you must follow will be implemented into gameplay concretely and unambiguously.

That's a strong inspiration. As is the Star Trek tv show. Atleast in how they are episodic, and deal with decision making and unexpected events.

Ok, we reached our minimal starting compliment of 4 crew rather fast. Since there is so much enthusiasm and interest I'll give you something to do.

I'd like this to be a wholly original setting, which means we will create our own alien races. (I want to emulate FLT in that there are just a handful of prominent ones)

I remember hearing about the Botg long before I knew where they were from

Ok, we reached our minimal starting compliment of 4 crew rather fast. Since there is so much enthusiasm and interest I'll give you something to do.

I'd like this to be a wholly original setting, which means we will create our own alien races. (I want to emulate FLT in that there are just a handful of prominent ones)

Violets
Sentient plants who use gamma radiation and X ray radiation as well as ultraviolet for photosynthesis. As a result, they tend to colonize planets closer to stars than other organisms. Lead is incorporated into their cells to protect their DNA equivalent from free radicals. Atmospheres of the planets they colonize are filled with the pheromones they communicate with, as a result of easy communication, each planet has their own society and thus wars are rare. However, due to their unique form of communication, diplomacy with other species can be difficult. This has unfortunately led to misunderstandings and inter species wars, so investments in defense has been made, leading to more misunderstanding that they are after war when in fact they just want defense. Some planets of Violets have managed trade with other species, though it is rare. Their spaceships are of course a built for absorbing UV, X-ray, and Gamma radiation. The fuel for them is any oxygen waste made by photosynthesis. Because of them not absorbing what the humans call visible light, to most humans, they appear, as one described, a “white squid covered in leaves”. Some humans can see in ultraviolet, and describe us as light purple. I managed to talk with this one because of the 26 symbols it uses. Apparently squids are creatures with ten non filtering roots that have tall heads, like us except they have a mouth somewhere, from writings I have determined that most of these creatures have something preventing them from gathering UV light. Experiments on these creatures have shown that lead is toxic to them, so it was removed. The two humans we found were returned shortly after, we don’t want a war with them. I am sending them these what they call notes as well as a description on why we invest in defenses. I hope I can find what one of them called a botanist, maybe I can help them make a translator. Until then, the writings will have to do.

I don’t expect a reward, I just thought you’d like to know that sometimes people who weren’t in the game saw the mechanics. Side note: I like how you introduced new mechanics as they came up, so at the beginning it isn’t overwhelming

Things like "rule of cool" will totally be a thing too.

For Aliens:
Grey humanoids shorter than 5 feet with semi-transparent wings that flap rapidly to let them fly. Mostly raiders with advanced blasters. Avoid melee as best they can as they can't wear most armor. In short, their body is weak but they can fly fast.

Crix'uqs:
 A race known as the most ancient in the whole  universe. Crix'uq history tells of a time when the race had discovered countless secrets and developed technology the kinds of which a present era scientist can't even think of. It was an era of peace in the universe. Alas it was not to last. Something happened almost 1 million years ago which left their home galaxy in ruins. Those who were away from their home survived and seek to rebuild their lost glorious worlds. But it had likely taken billions of years and it might be impossible now. Crix'uqs are tall reddish humanoids with long hair. They possess a diverse range of abilities, thanks to such a long age of evolution. Now they are mostly found in ancient and powerful spaceships travelling around the worlds to eradicate evil, which they believe was the reason of their fall. They colonize worlds all over the galaxies and possess very Amazing technologies that they invent with their most revered power i.e. their intelligence.

(I seized upon this chance to PTW without just P-ingTW. It's a mildly useless comment but it's the best way to stop me missing this in the uncurated splurge of Show (all) Unread Posts, etc.  :P )

I've been deciding what to do for episode 1.

I could either do a crazy high mortality mission, since I don't intend to do that much...

Con:
It may not represent normal gameplay well.

Pros:
Give the survivors (if any) a story.

Anyway. Let's see what we got for races:

A. GREYS

B. THE ZEBRA PEOPLE
Appearance: They look similar to humans but they have zebra heads and are covered in strips.
Homeworld: Probably has a lot of savannas, and deserts, some small forests, cities, and a bunch of other stuff I can't think of because I suck at large scale world building.
Spaceships: They look almost exactly like NASA space shuttles, but they have stripes.

C. CRIX'UQS
Appearance: Crix'uqs are (relatively) tall humanoids(6 to 7.5 ft) with red skin. Due to such a long era of evolution, no crix'uqs look the same. Some have tentacles while some have developed extra limbs. However, there are some characteristics which all crix'uqs possess such as reddish skin and their height, and almost all of them prefer long hair. Their primary limbs are also strongly attached to their body. They don't have tails. :\ (I built their appearance based on some I saw in a local show but I can't find the damn episode on internet.A bit like Hellboy)
Homeworld: While their home galaxy is now uninhabitable, after such a long time the Crix'Uqs all over the universe have united recently and have established the giant mineral rich planet Dosophus 2770B(or some other name) as their home. After millennia of development, it is one of the most advanced planets ever known in history, some may even mistake it for a sun. It contains many bustling metropolises and security drones can be seen droning everywhere in the lower atmosphere. Its defense is almost fool proof with powerful lasers that can pierce the hull of any ship and latest tech missiles. Crix'uqs have again become a major alien specie and are spread in many galaxies, although, lacking in population, they make up for it with droids for almost every task so they make up the base of their economy.
Spaceships: Some of the Crix'uq spaceships today are very ancient ones and most of the tasks in them are automatic. However, these are only used in wars against foes who really must be defeated as these spaceships are very rare and can't be repaired. So, normally they are docked in military bases. Modern Crix'Uq spaceships are in the shape of wasps and are known for their size and the strength of their hulls. They have large cargo capacity. They mostly deploy slow but very effective weapons and require minimum crew. However they are quite weak to infiltration, so most of them deploy an anti-personnel droid or two.

This is going to be roleplay optional. More importantly, it is a design goal that throughout this journey, your headspace can be that of a player, not an actor. But please, for the love of the galactic spaghetti creature, do so. If you wish.

If something happens to your character that would affect how they behave, it will be expressed via gameplay limitations and possibly posting requirements.

I always felt like anything else was just lazy game design.



ROLES (An abbreviated summary. All are subject to change if I need to!)

Acting as CAPTAIN you have a1s. This is the person that literally owns the ship and the one you will have to negotiate with for payment. (This role was for experience.)

Acting as BOTANIST you have Naturegirl1999. This person can grow food and determine if a planet's atmosphere is safe. (You wouldn't believe me if I told you this wasn't for the username. *sigh*)

Acting as ROOKIE you have Secretdorf. Not a specialist but eager to learn through hands on experience. Flexible.


These roles are final. No trades. The only way to change is to start a new character at the beginning of the next episode. You may grow to like them.

To be frank, towards the end of Tribe, roles were becoming less and less important, so I am not sure how significant or superficial these will be. But this is what you get when you play Tribe in space, so this is a start.

If players drop out these roles will be replaced by ship AI(badly, don't do that to your team).



RACES will be assigned after I get the final propagation votes...


SHIP is also dependant on races, but you can expect some of the following rooms:

Garden: Grow food ingredients
Cockpit: Pilot spacecraft

I will leave the decision of which type of ship license you apply for to THE CAPTAIN.

C. Delivery

If the ship is sold or destroyed, you will need a new license...


One final thing is I will be prioritizing gameplay mechanics over canon consistency. But I try to be consistent. An example is if I need to make a new room I'll just have it always been there, waiting to come online. Might be a lot of this in the beginning as I see what sticks.

I think when I do that it makes people seem replaceable. I'd rather only do this between episodes when I am rolling for all those that are replacing leaving players. More random that way, and replacing now is basically knowing/choosing race and role. I also want people to stay, and justifying leaving by citing replacements was a problem. Since it's not something I want to do, for the above stated reasons.

I'll let the captain pick from the waitlist next time. Like an interview. With the option to drop crew staff if desired.

I also wouldn't worry too much. I made the enforcer role a privilege but also auxiliary to honor 0cra's Tribe participation but reservations about dropping out last time.

A red tentacle wraps around a tiny piece of metal, delicately. It's an AI data chip with the warning label "GRUMPY", but also noteworthy in that it is reasonably priced---Well atleast relative to any supplier on a homeworld. All the components were forged in the stars, then taxed, then shipped, then taxed again, until it finally got back to 'civilization' to be sold for a generous markup. But this is the story of anything sold in this galaxy, security costs you. And in this high security sector, it's going to be nearly impossible to get work with a newly registered mercenary license, let alone a job worth the pay. It's time to go fishing, and all the big fish are at sea!

The bright red paint is still drying, but 'Raptor' is flight/fight-capable. It just needs a crew("on their way"), and a pilot("in my pocket"). After entering the security code, the door opens, and THE CAPTAIN steps onboard their ship for the first time...

Checking... Not that I can tell, Captain. Though I'm still not completely sure what half of these internal sensors are trying to tell me. Luckily I'm not supposed to fly through my own corridors.

I think the local port authorities just don't trust unproven Pilots installed on unproven ships with unproven crews. Just consider it a bonus that they let me go further than orbit. I should be able to thread us through the parking orbits without even scratching our paint, unlike some, but... apparently... 'regulations'. So they restrict me to certain transfer vectors, perhaps until I'm off their patch.

If you ask me, which you didn't, it must be because all the 'real' pilots with any offworld experience are snapped up by all the established outfits as soon as they dock, buzzing around like stripey-arsed flies. Excuse my Crix'uqsian.

The enforcer and the botanist never showed up. Drones were activated to replace them. Before takeoff, the enforcer drone checked the rookie for contraband, preventing any smuggling. After takeoff, the doctor waited to meet with the enforcer who was no longer on the crew, and didn't arrange any other examinations. The botanist drone required an update before coming online, then began tending to the garden. The rookie has yet to be assigned a position of which to intern. The engineer has been busy performing a rigorous analysis of the turret. The captain has been scanning for jobs.

There was no christening for Raptor("Crix'uq champagne is expensive!"), it is a silly Human tradition anyway. The newly minted ship has held together so far. Below is the 3rd moon of the Crix'uq homeworld. Desolate and grey, the ruins of an all encompassing mega city rust away below the crew.

AI BOTANIST: "Captain, the AI crewmates may not need food, but our systems put a strain on life support. Some plants that can improve air quality will be replacing some food plants, which will unfortunately need to be many of them. So long as we resupply after a mission, food supplies should be sufficient...though it will increase overall mission expenses. Alternatively, Captain, if you decide having AI attending a certain position isn't worth it, you can request the engineer override our safety protocols and power us down. I will remind you Captain, I am available for consultation on the lunar atmosphere if desired."

AI ENFORCER: "1 of 3 subordinate crewmembers have been inspected. My most recent update alerted me to be on the lookout for certain items in particular: Illegal Substances, and Unauthorized Guns. Having these things before final boarding may be a simple misunderstanding, but anyone who does not discard them now and is found out will be apprehended and released only at the discretion of the captain."

Rank
The crew manifest is listed in order of rank(AI have no rank). Rank dictates who becomes captain if the current one quits, dies, or is removed. If you become captain, you will have the option to change back to your old role by passing on command to the next-in-line, or you can retain the role, permanently. As this is a private operation, the captain can adjust crew rank.

Mutiny
The current captain can be replaced if a majority of the other crewmates vote for MUTINY in bold red font, and THE ENFORCER must not OPPOSE the vote though they do not need to support it. THE CAPTAIN and AI do not factor in the vote. An AI ENFORCER prevents mutiny, but can be disabled by THE ENGINEER. The captain will be taken to the holding cell and become THE PRISONER.

Captain, it's not my expertise or authority to say, but maintaining orbit isn't particularly taxing my sensors and systems too much at the moment.

Your gun-happy Engineer, aspiring Rookie or unoccupied Doctor might each do better than that legacy-version Enforcer AI and not entirely ignore the undocumented passenger in the storage area, if you wish to assign them to that issue at some point in the future.

AI BOTANIST: "Captain, the AI crewmates may not need food, but our systems put a strain on life support. Some plants that can improve air quality will be replacing some food plants, which will unfortunately need to be many of them. So long as we resupply after a mission, food supplies should be sufficient...though it will increase overall mission expenses. Alternatively, Captain, if you decide having AI attending a certain position isn't worth it, you can request the engineer override our safety protocols and power us down. I will remind you Captain, I am available for consultation on the lunar atmosphere if desired."
(AIUI/OOC, and I must stress that I'm not privvy to the mechanics, it seems to be something to do with power for AI takes away from power for regular atmosphere scrubbers/reprocessors (thus needing plants to pick up the slack) and/or the growing of air-freshening plants (that aren't food-producing ones). There's probably some theoretical balance to this, but how set in stone or 'plot-driven' handwavium it is, I couldn't and wouldn't say.)

(i.e. think of it like ST:Voyager, only the holodeck/EMH is not mysteriously powered by some strangely premise-driven incompatible supply of resources, such that though they may decide to ration replicated food they're happy for the Doctor to be on nearly constantly and as many interactive play-throughs of Captain Proton as your workshifts will allow. Here, instead, we've got the onboard servers trying to run three whole 'personalities' and that isn't cheap in processor cycles and thus power/cooling/etc.)

Landing Raptor is a little rough. Her crew quickly suits up in full environmental gear, which offers a lot of protection against all but the most rare hazards, but are dreadfully hard to move in. They also grab the authorized guns, blasters that cannot fire upon fellow crewmates.

They embark in the dust storm and meet up nearby with the Crix'uq archeologist. It's a trap! "Hah, you fresh-faced mercs are sooo gullible! Put down your blasters, hiding up in the hills are tons of my boys with their sights set on each of you heads!"

Each person has an 'authorized gun' and can fire on non-crew persons that are listed in 'Other' above. Post SHOOT @ <TARGET> in boldred text. This cannot be undone---do not edit this post. The target dies immediately(I do not need to announce it). Both ship-bound and 'away' crewmates can continue to talk to one-another in the thread. Discussion in the thread is not heard by 'Other' NPCs.

The rookie's bluff is met with laughter, but when the largest violet they've ever seen comes barreling towards them, the pirate takes cover. They Panic as they shout at a wrist-communicator... Then, they start laughing again. "You guys are toast now!" The pirate then shouts, "Open fire!" The crew is standing around but crouches behind nearby rubble as blaster fire rips across the middle-distance. The rookie goes down! "Haha, we got one!"

Judging by the shooting, there is one other pirate. The Passenger is not wearing any environmental protective equipment. They seem ok for now.




The Rookie cannot post this turn. If the Doctor revives them they can immediately begin posting again.

The Passenger cannot shoot. As they are not part of the crew, the crew firearms are disabled to them.

IC Rules
1. Format: Use your portrait, font color, and a pair of "quotation marks"(and follow any species requirements). You can play with the formatting to be more expressive.
2. Cooperation: Any strategic discussion must be held here in the IC thread(baring species exceptions).
3. Actions: Use bold to indicate an action statement in the IC thread(unless you have an ability that can be used in secret, which will override a public action you've declared).
4. RP-lite: Your character knows as much as you do, so there's no need to roleplay ignorance and they can break the 4th wall(any RP limitations you must follow will be implemented into gameplay concretely and unambiguously).

Part 5: Bogey






From the hills, blaster fire rains down on the crew. The doctor and the passenger are freaking out as chunks of their protection are blasted away. Flailing about, the doctor's shoulder is exposed long enough to receive a shot. The sniper repositions themselves behind different cover, closer to the away team.

From the dusty clouds above, a silhouette emerges. Judging by the sniper's elation, this is their reinforcements. It's not clear if they've noticed Raptor or the away crew just yet. It's a black Crix'uqsian ship, a Raider Class("Just like ours."), it doesn't seem too imposing for Raptor, but to the rest it is a death trap.

- [Last Words:] The doctor can make one post.
- [Walk Me Through It:] Anyone can revive the doctor as an instant. The doctor can then resume posting normally.

Epilogue: Pirate Ship






The pirate ship moves towards the terminal pirates and then draws its' cannons as the crew races back to Raptor. Shots shake the ground and spray lunar soil. As they climb on board they look back and see the violet cargo mover is...gone.

Raptor draws its' cannon and fires, causing the pirate ship to evade and flee.




CAPTAIN, decide what to do:
A. Engage Pirate Ship: Start Episode 2 now, with no new crew or supplies.
B. Resupply: You'll have the option to track the pirate ship's route & destination.

Warning: Supplies are critically low. Next episode no upgrades or repairs will be possible, nor medical services, and food will need to be rationed.

Part 0: Planning






Despite the A.I.'s assist, or perhaps, because of it, the rookie slammed Raptor into a hangar door on approach. There was no hull damage to the ship, but there will be a fine for the collateral damage. Having so many A.I. running aswell as a stowaway took an extra tole on the supplies. Some of it was mitigated by the A.I. botanist, and shutting down the A.I. enforcer helped, but extending the mission used what little was left. The remains of the passenger were not found, and the shipyard was notified of what transpired with their wayward employee, believed to have been annihilated in the pirate ship's bombardment. Before takeoff, the bandit corpses were identified as members of the Black Knight gang. The sniper's rifle was retrieved. The bounty fee for taking out a couple of the gangs' underlings was small, but surviving an encounter did increase Raptor crew's reputation("Would it be enough to attract a pilot though?"). The pirate ship's current coordinates are believed to be an asteroid cluster just outside the solar system.

Ah, so this isn't a case where my Ex-Pilot can just mentor the Rookie?

I suppose I'll amend my standing orders to Pilot when it's necessary and mentor otherwise. Captain, of course, can override that.

Raptor begins final boarding for liftoff. The rookie takes a seat in the cockpit for the second time and the ex-pilot puts a reassuring hoof on their shoulder. Raptor bursts through the same hangar door that was just repaired. The zebra person looks ahead stiffly.

After leaving the planet and surrounding congestion, the crew begins preparations for jump. After a tap on the shoulder the rookie unbuckles and floats off as the ex-pilot straps in. The ship begins to hum. "Floating calculations of Schrφdinger particles for a short jump..." The sound is getting louder. "...Ambient Momentum a sync..." Louder. "...Energy envelope engaged."  Louder. "Raptor locational variable..."

In a flash of light, the view of Dosophus 2770B changes to that of a distant asteroid field. "...changed."

Silence.



"Beginning scans." A 'bloop' repeats every few seconds. .. ... ... ...

- Both crew members are in the cockpit segment of the ship.

- [Fire Turret:] Turrets can target specific ship rooms at short range and cannot hit at long range. They can target other objects like incoming torpedoes.

Battle Station Command
There will now be a way to command players that are AFK during a ship-based crisis. You can command others to switch or use the battle stations and they will do it unless they choose to do something else or an order is given by someone with higher rank. (Captain can adjust ranks)

Ship Initiative (Initv)
The ship with higher initiative goes first. If the values change and the slower ship becomes faster, it will take a second turn.





GM Notes



1) Success Experience: Failure is the greatest teacher...but I've decided failing a task wont award the Rookie experience. It seems odd to promote someone that only failed, for instance. And have them instantly be perfect. So experience will only be recognized with successful actions. With no accidents.

These are the odds of success:

+1 per experience point
+3 for mentor
+2 for ai
+1 for alone

Each point adds [15%] success rate, for a maximum of [90%] success with 3 experience and a mentor.

2) Star Counter: I'll track total actions again for credit placement(★), to reflect audience POV of who the "main characters" were for the episode. Secret actions that resolve in secret will not be counted. Ties will now be broken by rank.

3) Role Revisions: The Role refinements as seen in the PMs have been reflected in the public game information section.


Part 1 Ends ~Midnight PST Friday. After 48 hours the captain can post HAMMER in bold red to end the turn immediately, then no new actions can be accepted. If the episode gets considerably ahead of schedule, then extending the mission may have reduced supply cost.

Ok, so given that our captain is MIA at the moment I propose we do the following:

- Call to Battle Stations
    Not sure what the Captain's battle station is. If this is something like Star Trek their job would basically be to give orders so we have a coherent battle plan. If we're talking more Millennium Falcon then maybe a Turret?
    I assume Engineer to one gun and...maybe captain or enforcer to the other? Or maybe the AI? Not sure who's good for that.
    Rookie can probably take manning the Torpedoes
- Does this thing have decent scanners? Can we get a readout on what the enemy ship has for defenses and armaments?
- If we need to move closer to do any of that, I'll get us in as close as necessary.

As the second ranking officer after the captain, I command everyone to take Battle Stations:

Ex-Pilot: Go to medium range to scan Crow rooms
Engineer, Captain, Enforcer: Go to head segment (where turrets are) captain and enforcer are to man a turret each and the engineer to stand by to fix/improve them.
Rookie: Man Torpedo Bay, hold fire for now.
Enforcer: Stay at storage(we might need to dump some cargo)

I changed the previous battle stations to keep me in storage for the reason stated. We don't need 3 people manning 1 turret. I figure the captain to shoot it and the engineer to improve/fix it. Also we only have 1 turret.This is not relevant as I missed the engineer made a second turret.

In the event a Captain goes on an away mission, dies, or is AFK for a weekly turn, the next highest rank will become "Acting Captain". They may make decisions left for the captain. They can grant authorization except for ship modifications.

Marshall
In the event the Enforcer becomes Active Captain, or goes on an away mission, dies, or is AFK for a weekly turn, the next highest rank becomes "Marshall" and serves as the Enforcer in regards to matters of mutiny; review that section in the rules for more information.

The captain takes the enforcer's suggestion to join them on the turrets, taking the powered up one and leaving the new one to the newcomer. The enforcer makes several suggestions to the crew and the captain does not contradict the commands. The engineer shouts to the ex-pilot that they can have a jump ready, but the reply is that it wont be needed. Instead some supply matter is to be used for fuel. The ex-pilot guides Raptor through some tight maneuvers and everyone holds tight as the torpedoes wrap around like two greedy fingers. The captain and the enforcer mow down the threat with rapid laser pulses. The explosion sends a shockwave that upsets the surrounding asteroids, now jutting out at the two craft. Some preliminary rubble knocks harmlessly upon Raptor's Crix'uqsian armor.

Crow moves in. Short-range scanners detect 8 individuals, 1 of them is inside the holding cell. "They've got a prisoner."

Security cameras in the rear segment show a metal spear penetrating the hull("!!!"), then popping open like four metal jagged claws. The hook pulls tight.

All right, Rookie, listen up! If we just fire the torp at that ship it'll hit us too since we're so close. But I'm going to pull an old maneuver we used to do while smashing asteroids. I'll want you to fire on my mark!

I am Invoking Trope: Improbable Piloting Skills (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ImprobablePilotingSkills) to set things up so the rookie fires the torpedo and we fly past the Crow and use it as cover against the explosion to avoid taking damage ourselves.

I assume that we're still reasonably far away despite the tether (space is big, after all). So the idea is basically to fire the torpedo, burn towards/just around the Crow, and maybe use the tether to sling us to the far side of the ship so it blocks the brunt of the blast from us.

Depending on how long you imagine the tether we may have to just maneuver ourselves, since we may have too much slack for that to work. But since the game relies on Tropes I assume we're going more cinematic rather than worrying about actual zero-g flight mechanics.

Crow's rear hatch opens revealing the pirate boarding party. They prepare to invade Raptor's torpedo room, where the rookie now listens intently to the ex-pilot's instructions over the intercom.

The ex-pilot shouts out what they need everyone to do to pull off the old 'Asteroid Smashing Maneuver' right now. After some graceful repositioning, the tether is pulled taught and then Raptor and Crow pull on each other. The ex-pilot frowns, as the rookie's torpedo is a bit off course from where they wanted it, but they focus harder on lining something up. The two torpedoes wrap around the far side of the pirate ship. The first torpedo impacts Crow's rear, releasing the tether and vaporizing the invasion force. The second torpedo detonates early, the burst pushing Crow into position...

As Raptor comes to a halt the captain leans over, "But why is it called the Asteroid Smashing Maneuver?" The ex-pilot simply lets the answer become self evident.

All the incoming asteroids impact Crow!...Except one.

Raptor is struck in the head and half of the ex-pilot is suddenly gone. The thick hull slowed the person-sized rock enough that it didn't pass through the cabin a second time. The captain and the enforcer are safe from the loss of atmosphere in their space suits, but the surrounding damage is hazardous. Pipes are bent open and electricity arcs everywhere.




The Ex-Pilot cannot post this turn. The Doctor can Examine them in the Medical Room to determine if there's time to prep them for stasis.

The AI Pilot could not be activated. Please re-insert personality chip.

Part 5: Hero

The impact to Raptor has set it on a slow drift away from Crow. The rookie gets to work on repairing the controls as the captain and the engineer embark towards the desolate pirate ship. They twinkle like stars as their propulsion packs carry them to the wreck. They drift inside large impact tares in the hull and are not seen for some time. The rookie gets the controls repaired, aswell as finish patching up the person-sized hole. It should be enough to protect from atmospheric re-entry, but wont help much if Raptor finds herself in another fight.

The enforcer helps the engineer back in, along with their haul... some kind of Crix'Uqsian android body---definitely a valuable item. Behind them is someone else, but it isn't the captain. They are wearing their pack though, and the enforcer turns to the engineer. "Captain stay"


As everyone stops what they are doing to look on at Crow, the ship of the mercenary hunters detonates, and soon all that is left is dust.

Psst! Hey, kid... You're eager, I'll give you that, but I've checked what I can of the logs. Are you sure you're quick enough to avoid a spin from a flash engine misbalance? And if any ship's going to imbalance, it's this slightly crumpled one.

There's also console damage limiting my nav-sensor inputs, meaning I'd have to guess and fly part blind with dead-reckoning - excuse the phrase...  But that ship's crew and systems probably knew where we all were. Did anyone get any intel? Black box? Pilot's electronic logbook? Enough to help me not try high-speed lithobraking.

Or just find a way to give me a proper view while I interface with the controls, what I wouldn't give even for a Mk1 Eyeball, about now.

Update: So I made a mistake, I should have included a clause about the random jump, that says:

"All current crew must consent to a random jump."

This is because there will be no chance for new players to join and current players to quit. (And there must be 4 active players, and returning players must have the intention to participate!)

Sorry I left this out, this was a big oversite. The mission will be extended 2 days to make up for lost time. Apologies.

(Yes, since randomly jumping won't allow for crew changes at a port, all who accept are saying they want to agree to another mission, and plan to actively participate each turn. I wonder what I'm going to do. I mean, if there's no crew, then there's nobody I have to listen to. I could haunt the space-lanes, randomly turning up out of nowhere, then vanishing again. They could make a TV series out of my adventures! I probably won't get any royalties though.

(Random jump is not possible. There were two crew members that did not sign on for the next mission. You could put the AI Pilot chip in the Android body you found, so they could jump Raptor back as they have offered. Turn ends in less than an hour...)

Time has expired. As there was clearly confusion up until the last moment, I will let the Engineer(new captain) make a final choice:

A. Have the Rookie call for help. But leave behind the Raptor. The crew will arrive in a random port.
B. Put the AI Pilot chip into your Android body. Have the Android jump Raptor to Dosophus 2770B.
C. Invoke a trope. If the trope fails option A will be used.

These are the only options.

(Should I take the full "Option B" choice as being the order from the Engineer/Captain-apparent? It looked a little non-diegetic to me. This mind and body and ship ought to have been inherited by the new commander and not therefore follow Archaologist's or Newbie's suggestions without good reason.)

(As the turn expired options where limited and locked in. Starver offered to pilot Raptor back to home[a "definite" destination near where the Scientist wanted to go] so this is set.)
