Hello, I'm thinking of turning off the magma sea for fps reasons. But since adamantine is found near magma seas, will this make it impossible for me to find adamantine?
-
I believe it will, yes.

Although candy can spawn in the caverns as a disconnected vein, I don't know if having the magma sea as an origin is required.
Edit: Also, there are many many other ways to gain fps. Off the top of my head; smaller world size & history gen, occasional use of the 'clean all' script, smaller embark size and pop cap.

My recollection (from running different setups a few versions back) is that adamantine veins require "Bottom Layer" as the advanced parameters call it (because of the relationship to spoilers). Bottom Layer, in turn, forces magma sea and even says as much in the parameters.
I had never heard of disconnected deposits in the caverns, but I seriously doubt they spawn if no regular veins are spawning to begin with.

Yes it will.
You could mod it back (maybe) as an extremely rare gem if you want to...

Hmm alright thanks guys

Is the magma sea really a significant cause of lag?
I wouldn't have thought it would be a problem unless you started moving large quantities of magma around.
Are you having problems with magma-dwelling creatures breeding or something?
