UNSTABLE, or: Godly Musical Chairs

Each god occupies a Seat on the Cosmic Cube. Each Seat on the Cosmic Cube has three Links that may theoretically be any permutation of friendly or hostile. In practice, having only hostile Links is likely to result in the expulsion of a god from their Seat.

Entering a Seat

Upon entering a Seat, one hostile and two friendly Links are randomly assigned.

Exiting a Seat

A god who achieves the dubious honor of flipping all of their Links hostile and failing to secure a friendly tether after a full turn has passed is expelled from the Cosmic Cube. If there are other unseated gods floating around in the ether, they can assume the vacant Seat; otherwise, the expelled god may not return for three turns.

Switching Seats

Loosely bound gods with more hostile Links than friendly Links may switch places with receptive adjacent gods (even nominally hostile ones) by mutually invoking the Links between their Seats. For convenience, success is guaranteed and dependent only on their cooperation, bypassing the normal rules/rolls. For extra convenience, only one swap is possible per god per turn.

The Unseated

If there is somehow more than one unseated god at the start of a turn after automatic seating, they are collectively allowed to perform a single act if they can unanimously agree on what that act should be. Presumably this small freedom should be directed at unseating one of the gods on the Cube somehow...

Links are invoked to perform actions. As gods are prone to either squabbling or cooperation, Links come in but two flavors:

• Friendly, facilitating helpful acts
• Hostile, facilitating conflict and fighting

Turning a friendly Link into a hostile Link can be done unilaterally at any time, even when a god has made a deal/truce with another. If a Link turns hostile mid-turn as a result of betrayal, the other party won't be informed until the turn update. Adjacent antialigned gods who fail to perform mutually helpful actions for an entire turn will also see their Links turn hostile regardless of their intentions.

Turning a hostile Link into a friendly Link, on the other hand, requires cooperation and the bilateral spending of an Link-act explicitly intended to improve relations and thus requires one turn to resolve. The exact effects of this act aside from the relation improvement are up to the gods involved.

Unlike most such games, actions must be sent both by PM and the IC thread. The IC thread version is not required to be truthful but should capture at least some of the essence of the intended action.

Actions come in three categories judged relative to the god on the other end of the Link:

• Harmful: In which said god would disapprove, would have their sphere diminished by the act, or would have their own action hindered by the act.
• Neutral: In which said god would approve of the act but is not aware of the act or has no relevance (even tangentially) to the act.
• Helpful: In which said god would approve of the act and is aware of the act or in which the act is intended to directly help them with their action.

The result of an action is dependent on the Link it draws from, the nature of the action with respect to the god occupying the Seat on the other end of the Link, and a dash of randomness particularly in cases of conflict. These tables provide the outcomes of actions based on the Links invoked:

* X%-X% denotes outcomes where only one of the two actions goes through instead of being rolled independently.

As a last resort, actions can be vetoed if four (or more) gods occupying Seats that form at least a full face of the Cosmic Cube oppose the action. In all other cases, all actions go through unless prevented by other factors.
