Title: Returning Player LF Tileset
Post by: feorh on June 08, 2022, 05:28:01 am
Hi there!
I've decided to dwell into DF after 10+ years of hiatus.
This time I wanna do it with a tileset.
I've looked at some tiles: spacefox and phoebus look really nice.
Are there anything else comparable?
What tilesets have the most tiles?

Hi, no don't worry about that, the forum usually is pretty quiet without too-many new developments.

LNP does come with a lot, but there's plenty to offer. I personally use grim tileset (which i've had to partially write in the init myself, it being a legacy pack), but if its 10 years you've been gone, you might want to get DFhack so you can use TWBT and utilize the image-swap capabilities it can offer you, with some highly implemented tilesets being able to distinguish spritesheets from just materials alone.

- Im unsure on the side if the current state of world affairs (covid, war in the east) has also whittled down active member numbers.

Also i suppose the modding community and tileset community at large are holding their breath until the graphical release of the game on steam and they have a proper idea on how to break-new ground for tilesets.

A fair amount of the forum has gone into hibernation waiting for the Steam/itch.io release.

A favorite tileset of mine is Bitlands (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=172607.0), as it lies aesthetically close to the ASCII I play with otherwise, though it also requires TWBT and can be a bit of a bother to set up. Its simple style also facilitates mod compatibility which is a plus.

Thanks for all the ideas, guys, will check them all out!
By the way what about the steam release - is it really really going to happen this summer?
Cause I'm pretty sure DF is on my steam wishlist since circa 2015 :)

No, latest estimation (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=174112.msg8354566#msg8354566) was the "earliest possible launch date would be in the fall".

What does LF in your thread title stand for?

There are so many good tilesets, it really depends on your taste. Try a few. The lazy noob pack offers a couple of interesting tilesets and it's user friendly.

I think you can try to take a look here (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=175652.0), it could help to take a look on some tilesets without wandering around the forum.
