Flash forward 20 years. The latest world changing breakthrough really does. Just completely changes the board. 2 months later, we're dealing with unexpected social consequences and it's all a bit anarchic.
Under those circumstances, what can you actually expect from people?
Does that make people cautious? Stupid? Do half the people act like it's a hollywood script or do you get a pretty random set of reactions? (The most likely, I think.)
How do you navigate that situation?
I guess you stick to universities and smart people but, anarchy. The average person is going to be stuck with people acting pretty unpredictably.
I'm not convinced that being the voice of reason is a good strategy...

In 20 years I'll probably either be a suicide victim or like 50 years old.

Realistically more like 5, there's a lot of cool shit in the pipe at the moment.

Go forth find a cave and crawl inside.

I would stay far away from University folk. They often get their heads full of silly ideas, and then insist the world follow them
-
The worlds always turning. You can't catch up if you follow the world
-
Then it will obviously spin back round to you and you'll be back where you started.
After all, you can only outrun the seasons with special equipment.
-
But what if you live in a place that only has one season?
