When placing farm plots, the first mouse click looks like it places a single tile plot. The UI tells you to select the second corner of the rectangle, but there's no visual indication of what you're doing on the tiles (unlike the selection rectangle when designating zones.) It would be easy enough to confuse the first corner with an existing plot, and there's nothing under the mouse pointer to indicate that you're still building something.
