Title: Dragonslayer

I discovered Dwarf Fortress earlier this week, played around with the Fortress mode a bit, then decided to give Adventure mode a spin. I had several fighters, they were ripped apart by scorpions, leaopards, some ratmen, but the main threat was cyclops's, every time I fought them they tore me apart. Once I brought 6 friends along and still died (although two of them did finally kill it, they were so injured though they probably didn't make it out alive. Finally I gave a spear character a try, and trained and fought, I would kill animals, I would go into caves, kill the weaklings, and run away once I found the cyclops, I slaughtered undead, until finally I was thought I was ready for a cyclops. I destroyed him, and the next, endlessly seeking bigger fish I eventually got to my first dragon, this is that story:

I drug that corpse right back to the King and laid it on his feet. Now I am off to kill another one! I'll let you know how it goes.

For anyone that is interester I am (and was prior to this fight, I think, although I may have gone up in a couple skills during the struggle) Utra-Mighty, Unbelievably Agile, Extremely Tough, Speed 1562, Legendary Wrestler, Master Spearman, Great Shield User, and High Master Armor User.

badass! wrestling is quite powerful.

My current tactics pretty much amount to:
1. If enemy is alone, cripple and strangle to death.
2. If enemy has a friend, behead him and proceed with #1.
3. If there are more than 2 enemies, kill most of them, throw the sword at the second and proceed with #1.

Works out pretty well, the masterwork iron sword i have either severs limbs or cuts whatever i hit with it in half.

Pure wrestling plus legendary throwing is awesome fun if you want a challenge. Roll out with a full party of drunks :D

Snap limbs one by one, gouge out eyes... choke em to death. Then pick up the corpse and punt it into another guy.

One time i choked a kobold to death, threw it at another kobold and he exploded :eek:

Wow. Only dragon I've ever encountered I cut in half with an incredible crit on my first attack. It was both really cool and incredibly disappointing.

Wow, I found the second dragon, that was such an epic fight, this game is amazing, it's hard to imagine a more grueling struggle. First I fought a few fire imps, got burned fairly moderately, but not too bad. Then the dragon showed up, and more fire imps, lots more.

Sometimes people will wrap a rope around a javelin in a loose spiral and attach it to the back end. When you throw it the rope imparts a spin to the javelin improving accuracy.

But yeah, thats the other axis of spin. It makes even less sense if you throw a whip.

Out of curiosity, where do you find dragons? I hardly find anything interesting. Even when powerful, all of my quests are (go to ruins, kill a bowman/crossbowman. Or get killed by.)

Lemme guess: Caves? I hang around dark fortresses and ruins mostly...

Right now, the capitals equate undead guys with dragons, and there are a lot of them around. They'll offer the nearest quest to them, so if you clear out a number of the undead near one capital, you'll eventually get something. Picking capitals closer to mountain ranges helps, since all the big creatures are in mountain caves.

Im in love with the adventure mode right now, some of the fights with epic creatures are just so tense and pretty cool ;)

Dragons are nothing compared to titans, or hydras, why?

Hydras have multiple heads, so, you cant strangle the annoying bastards to death, nope, you have to get a lucky hit at the TORSO. THE TORSO FOR CHRIST'S SAKE.

And titans...

I dont even want to describe the slaughter a pissed of titan can create.

The first time i single handedly slew a dragon, i brought its corpse outside, set fire to it with a nearby tree, and took the skull and bones as souvenirs like a true Predator :)

Oddly enough, it's destroyed corpse elicited 2 skulls and 2 sets of dragon bones... i didn't ask.

Then that makes me two times the awesome i was before...Unfortunately i discovered that bones and skulls and the like bio degrade very rapidly... my Predator Souvenirs are gone :( I will never be accepted as a predator now... they'll send me to that god forsaken ice place to fight aliens now... Damn it....

Bring a helmet, spear, and some acid to heal yourself up.
