Title: Is it possible to alter the properties of a tool like a pick?

I would like to make a type of pick that digs more slowly and possibly leaves a rock 100% of the time.

Those particular properties are not modifiable, no.

Would increasing the specific density of the rock affect mining speed? I know it’s quicker to dig through soil.

It is quicker to dig through soil because soil is quicker to dig through, as a specific property of soil
