~MAGES OF MASS DESTRUCTION~
╚═━━┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈━━═╝

Greetings Alumni!

Congratulations on graduating from the Magical Academy.

We would like to remind all graduates that attempting to run away from repaying the astronomically exorbitant student loans is not feasible. We will find you on any plane.

Following the hasty closure of the legitimate Demonic Indentured Servitude Upliftment Initiative, we would like to offer a select few graduates the opportunity to clear all debts through our Artefact Quality Control program.

Despite rumours to the contrary, this scheme is perfectly safe! No world ending artefacts have been created, as far as you know.
Once you have signed this liability waiver in your blood, please review the details of your assignment:

Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life, aspirant! We are always watching and we will be in touch.

My name is Mark. I am 35 years old. I look like a mildly-pale human male, approx 5'10", no major scars, no tattoos, blocky build, subpar but not completely unreasonable hygiene, a non-expressive face, and dead-like-eyes with the dark rings of sleep deprivation around them.
>I am tired. I'm always tired. I hate dealing with people. I hate how people just assume they know what I want all the time without actually asking me. I hate being left behind because people assume that I didn't want to go. I hate being dragged around when people assume that I do want to go. Why is it so hard to just ask? And it isn't even just me. I hate seeing people do stuff like this to other people. I hate when people just assume they know what the others around them are going to say, and why. I see people attacking each other for wanting and thinking things they don't actually want. It's so dumb, and I hate it. I hate people. And I'm not really any better either. I hate me too. I hate my face. I hate my build. I hate my height. I hate my voice. I even hate the sound of my own name sometimes. I miss being shorter. I wish I looked like someone worth looking at to myself. I hate my hatred too. I'm so tired of being angry all the time. It's better to be mad than sad, but I'm mad at always being mad. If only I were better at my major, I might have actually managed to do something about it. But no, I suck too much. Doesn't matter how much I study the theory, or how important it is to me personally, or how hard I work to try to figure this stuff out despite how unnatural it feels and confusing it is, if at the end of the day I can't put it into practice then who cares.
>At the Academy I majored in Transformations.
>My favourite extracurricular activity was listening to music.
>I have 20 gold.
>I have 5 clones.
>My goals are to learn how to change myself into someone that I actually like. To be someone I don't hate. To actually find some meaning and value in being.

Turn 0: Morning Day 1

You are bathed in the blue light of teleportation as your Bastion Gem glows. You find yourself standing in a ramshackled fishing town by a great lake. A sunkissed old stick of a man is startled by your sudden arrival. Around you, other graduates you are mildly acquainted with materialise. A quick glance suggests a few other points of interest: a falling down inn, a man by a rowboat, a strategically placed Quest Board. The town stretches on before you, and beyond, the sheer sandstone walls of the labyrinth encase it.

Beside you, a mule snorts. At least, you assume it is a mule. It is a stout, broad creature of humorously small stature with a bulbous head atop unnervingly rippling neck muscles. It observes you with uncaring, equally bulbous eyes. A nauseating brightly coloured neckerchief, embroidered in cheerful script, proclaims it to be Carl - Quality Control Officer. Carl is sorely displeased.

Attached to Carl is a large cart, stocked with several crates. You consider some of these might contain the wands, and others, the supplies you were promised to receive.

At some point, the old man started talking at you. He says you are in PortPort. It is relatively peaceful within the town, but they are set upon by danger on all sides. South far across the lake is another town called Big Church. There are other towns beyond this one, but PortPort is currently cut off from them by road, because of the danger and all. You are not sure why he is telling you any of this. He shoots you a gummy smile.

Your location is currently PortPort.
>PortPort - Safe?: Carl, Cart, Old Man, fellow goofy graduates, ramshackled inn, man with a rowboat, questing board, ? ? ? ? ?  (Probably civilisation stuff)
> North: Forest, ? ? ? ? ?
> East:  Lakeshore, ? ? ? ? ?
> South: Big Lake --> Big Church?
> West: Lakeshore, ? ? ? ? ?

Mechanics
Please Bold any RTD action.

You can always explore to find new areas in your current location. You can also do anything you want. The world will respond to your actions.

If you wish to leave your current map, you can always travel North, South, East or West in the labyrinth. The exceptions are: if you are in a structure, if you are underground, or if you are in a dungeon. Places that are Mythic, Wonderful, Weird or Wylde may follow different rules. Changing maps won't count as an RTD roll, though you may sometimes get lost in unfamiliar or wilderness areas.

Using a Wand will always succeed in firing, so long as it is targeting a sentient creature.

Turn 1
╚═━┈┈━═╝
"Huh. This place doesn't seem like much for parties. Oh well, maybe we'll find a more hip town?"

Search the town for someplace where one may purchase psychoactive substances.

2 - you wander into a shack called Benji's fish stew. He plonks down a wooden bowl in front of you that gives off a pungent odour. The roiling liquid seems to have a detached eyeball floating in it.

Bouldy make friends with Carl.
6 - you stare deeply into the eyes of Carl. He stares back deeply into you. Those black beady eyes have a tumultuous depth to them. Frustration, anger, defiance, general malaise with educational bureaucracy. It is an inner storm that moves you, a plight you can't ignore. You feel like you and Carl reach an understanding. A brotherhood. You have to help Carl, preferably by committing evil acts for some reason. Or just Crimes against Paperwork. Or perhaps just finding a nice patch of grass.

New Goal: Commit acts of evil, or crimes against Paperwork, or find a nice patch of grass. These will impress Carl to varying degrees.

"Oh, this place seems interesting!"

Approach Carl before checking the crates for both the offered supplies and my first Wand for examination.
5 - you plant yourself next to Carl and check the nearest crates you can reach. They are filled with goodies!

You can take up to 6 wands to fill 1 slot in your inventory comfortably. As you don't have a backpack or sack, you can take 12 wands if you carry them carefully using both hands, filling 1 slot. Or you can throw all caution to the wind and take 18 wands, squirreling them away into every conceivable place in your robes.

You can take any of the following supplies:
Rations - 7 Rations fill 1 Slot
50" Rope - 1 Slot
Torches - 6 Torches full 1 Slot
Crowbar - 1 Slot
2 Person Tent- 1 Slot
Bedroll - 1 Slot
Tinderbox - 1 Slot
Grappling Hook - 1 Slot
Bag of Marbles - 0 Slot
10 ft Pole - 1 Slot
Rolled up Newspaper - 0 Slot

Acquire Wands from Wand crates.
3 - You feel lazy and only acquire 6 Wands from the crates, filling 1 Slot.

"This place is terrible."
Search the cart and see what the others supplies we were given are.

4 - You find crates filled with wands. You can take up to 6 wands to fill 1 slot in your inventory comfortably. As you don't have a backpack or sack, you can take 12 wands if you carry them carefully using both hands, filling 1 slot. You also find a crate filled with the following:

Rations - 7 Rations fill 1 Slot
50" Rope - 1 Slot
Torches - 6 Torches full 1 Slot
Bedroll - 1 Slot
Tinderbox - 1 Slot
10 ft Pole - 1 Slot
Mouth Accordion - 0 Slot
Dog-eared Birthday Card  - 0 Slot

I approach Carl and ask them: "Hello Carl. Anything we need to know before we start digging through these wands?"

6 - Carl turns to look at you. As you meet his gaze you are bombarded by terrible visions not meant for the human mind. Every star in the universe going dark. Lakes of porridge. Men with lobster claws and heads. The up-pending of Order as we know it and the world descending into chaos. Infinite possibilities on infinite forking paths.

You take 1 Damage from the revelations. [9/10 HP] Whatever these wands are they have the potential to be exceedingly powerful.

I then investigate the supplies.
5 - You can take any of the following supplies:
Rations - 7 Rations fill 1 Slot
50" Rope - 1 Slot
Torches - 6 Torches full 1 Slot
Crowbar - 1 Slot
2 Person Tent- 1 Slot
Bedroll - 1 Slot
Tinderbox - 1 Slot
Grappling Hook - 1 Slot
Portable cassette player with '100 Top Hits' inside - 0 Slot
10 ft Pole - 1 Slot
Really loud satisfying bubble wrap - 0 Slot

Look at Questing Board for QUESTS

2 - You look at the Questing Board. Something about clearing out pirates to the East, something bothering the farms to the West, crocodiles bothering boats to the South... Blah blah blah Yadda Yadda Yadda... They all have cash rewards but your eyes glaze over from how boring the information is.

Turn 2
╚═━┈┈━═╝
Bouldy no want hurt peepo. Bouldy tell Carl he bad man, but Bouldy will try find nice patch of grass.

6 - Carl's lips peel back showing his pearly white chompers and he guffaws at a unprecedented magnitude of decibels.

You find a veritable treasure of a pristine succulent lawn. Unfortunately, it seems to be in use as PortPort's only sports lawn. The local sport of choice seems to be some sort of convoluted scoring game in which rotting fish is thrown at challengers who dodge nimbly around the field collecting eggs. You are sure Carl would be displeased if he got a rotten fish in the face. This is most certainly the best kept grass in the area, but there may be less smelly options elsewhere.

"Haha! I like your style!"

Pass Benji a gold and chug the stew. It might not be booze, but maybe it will do terrible things to my body and mind regardless!

4 - Benji seems surprised by your generosity. He saches back behind the counter biting the gold coin looking perplexed. Meanwhile, you chug down the stew. You feel your stomach roil but you hold it down. You feel detached as your vision becomes a bit delayed when you look around, it's a good enough vibe but disappointingly not the strong kick you were looking for.

LOOK AT THE QUESTING BOARD AS I SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN FORGOTEENED
EDIT: Take 18 wands from the cart
6 - You accidentally take more then 18 wands without realising, Not that you know that. Set wands to 18 ?  ? ? in your inventory. Nothing to see here.

Take wand #1, aim straight upwards, FIRE.
ERROR: Wands require a living target to fire.

Barely visible behind the assortment of items hanging out of their pockets, stuck in their hood, strapped to their limbs, or otherwise attached to their person, Connie stands up from the supply pile with great enthusiasm.
"Alright, that should do it for my preparations... now, for Adventure!"

Sally forth to the Quest Board, where I may acquire myself a noble deed to perform!

3 - Your eyes glaze over reading the cutesy girlish script by you think you got the key points, maybe.

Pirates roam the East Coast and the local sheriff would pretty please very much like them to be cleared out!

Some sort of nasty Forest (?) Creature (?) has been plaguing the farms to the West! The local sheriff would be very grateful if you could pretty please with sugar on top track them, and scout out where they're coming from. That would be very nice of you. Proof of each creature killed will fetch a fun little monetary reward, yippee!

Oh dear. Nasty Crocs have been snapping at boats. Please eradicate them and return their hides to Sam the leatherworker for a fair fee.

Lots of Love XoXo Sheriff Obba

The last is carved below in staccato handwriting:
Ma Mate Rimbo No Rum Jimbo dun and gon' disappeared in the spooky woods to the North. No doubt sleeping off last night yaaar haaar. I mean, haha. Anyway. I'd be mighty glad if you could go en fetch him quick like. Good reward and his rum ta boot, aye.

"Why didn't they provide knives, I mean how are we supposed to cut things with out them?"
Search the stuff for a large cloth of some kind and use it and the 50" Rope to make a backpack. Also grab that mouth accordion thing.

3 - You scoop up a large blanket and attach the rope to it in a makeshift harness. It's a little loose and ramshackled, not as good as store bought, but you think it'll do the job for a while.  Gain 5 Equipment Slots while the backpack is equipped. You are less likely to drop objects in tense situations with proper storage.

I then continue looking through the supplies since I didn't find any wands

5 - You crack open a fresh crate to find wands on wands on wands! They all look identical in shape, size and length.

There is also the wand crates:
You can take up to 6 wands to fill 1 slot in your inventory comfortably. As you don't have a backpack or sack, you can take 12 wands if you carry them carefully using both hands, filling 1 slot. Or you can throw all caution to the wind and take 18 wands, squirreling them away into every conceivable place in your robes.

Stomp off in a random direction, looking for monsters to blast- since apparently the lack of a guarantee on firing at anything non-sentient means these things won't fire without a sentient target.

1 - You get hopelessly lost. At first there were trees, and then there were woods, and then the woods were dense and thick and covered in cobwebs. You stumbled over some rocky outcroppings. You have no sense of how long you were walking,  as the temperature and humidity started to rise.

You are standing in a clearing, surrounded by vine covered trees. To the East is a cliff face, dotted with caves and ladders leading upwards to thin carved walkways. There are four cave entrances close to the ground, with one ladder nearby.

In the clearing you spy what you're looking for: some sort of small reptilian bipedal creature with a long tail. It has two large powerful back legs and two smaller arm like appendages ending in claws. It's mottled green scales glisten, it does not appear to have noticed you yet.

Your location is currently something somewhere of PortPort probably.
Go North!
4 - You go North! You do seem to get a little distracted during the walk and are not quite sure where you are in relation to Portport, other then it is most definitely North somewhere.

You catch sight of a landmark to orientate yourself - a breathtakingly gigantic tree that stretches upwards into the clouds. Coming from the South looking North, you can spy three ?cave? entrances muddled among its roots.

From the middle entrance, you see some small turnip shaped creatures with spears disappearing inside. The left entrance is overgrown with mushrooms. The right entrance is barricaded with sticks.

There may be more entrances, further in...

A plaque on the tree truck says "Dega'da'dremamore".

Your location is currently somewhere North of PortPort.
"Very nice."
Now that I have a bag I shall grab 7 rations, a bedroll, and the tinderbox, then search around and see if there aren't any other useful supplies I missed the first time.
6 - the temptation to take 18 wands haphazardly does wash offer you.

Carl seems pleased as you start rummaging around with Terra. You find the following curiosities:

Hat of Vermin - Equippable or 1 Slot, Magic Item.

Toffee Hammer - 0 Slots
Giraffe Skull - 1 Slot
Xylophone - 1 Slot
Fake glasses with fake nose and moustache attached - 0 slot, equippable
Captain Madness Vs the Stranger Danger comic issue 13 - 0 slots
Miniature keg of Gumption Ale - 3 slots
Snow globe featuring the Magical Academy - 0 slots
Musty pair of denim jorts - 1 slot, Equippable
Fluffiest Towel ever - 1 slot
A collection of seashells - 0 slots
Half of the Guess Who boardgame - 0 slots
A Wok - 1 slot
Collection of travel journals penned in a fine hand - 0 slots
A toy Elephant - 1 slot
A camping chair - 2 slots
Pair of knitting needs and skein of red yarn - 1 slot
Rubber band ball - 0 slots
A kaleidoscope - 1 slot
Small ornate powder compact, missing mirror - 0 slots

"This is... almost incomprehensible. Who even writes like this?!?"

Off to the Forest, to track down foul creatures of the wood!
5 - You head cardinal North. You watch Name, who is a very  [input short flavorful descriptor here] kind of folk, speedwalk even further North and disappear among the trees. Human the dwarf - no no, wait. Not a dwarf, you remember that from class - seems to unknowingly start veering to your left. He disappears into the forest, presumably heading towards that big Yggdrassilesque tree in the distance.

A deer frolics merrily through the picturesque trees. The ground appears to have some strange tracks. A little further in you can hear some men arguing.

> Forest: deer, tracks, arguing voices
> North: Spooky Forest, ? ? ? ? ?
> East:  , ? ? ? ? ?
> South: PortPort - Safe?: Carl, Cart, Old Man, fellow goofy graduates, ramshackled inn, man with a rowboat, questing board, ? ? ? ? ?  (Probably civilisation stuff)
> West: Dega'da'dremamore, ? ? ? ? ?

I take 6 wands and head over to the Quest Board to see what people want.
1 - As you head over to the Quest board a barrel chested man swerves out a nearby doorway and into your path, colliding with you. "Whaddyaa want?!" He growls, squinting, the scent of strong liquor mixing with his morning breath.

Bouldy forget what Carl want, Bouldy no care. Bouldy rest on nice grass.
4 - You have a nice rest on the grass. A rotten fish does land on your hand, but other then that it's a lovely day.

Take aim with wand #1, let’s see if I can blow this thing’s head off.

5 - You deal 9 damage as two shining bolts of purple blue energy shoot out the point of the wand. They arc through the air and hit the creature as it falls to the ground, dead.

You spy two more of the creatures in the brush on the other side of the clearing. Your trained mage skills killed this creature with such deadly, silent precision, that the two creatures have not noticed you yet. Try don't even notice one of their number has been killed.

Quirk triggered. You feel a warm wooziness come over you, and hiccup.

gain 10 XP for the kill.
Gain 25 XP for firing a new Wand.
Ongoing: 75 XP may be granted if you can correctly identify this wand's Quirk Effect and Target. A bonus 50 XP will be granted if you can determine this wand's Quirk Duration.

Effect of Quirk:
Target of Quirk:
Duration of Quirk:

"Nothin, you're good."
Walk away before he gets involved with me, and make my way over to the quest board to see what it says.

3 - "oi, don't walk away from me, it's rude" he cussed, staggering. You see his shoulders shudder as big fat tears well up in his eyes. "Evryones always walk'n way from me"

Terra grabs all the things! Except the gnomes, she leaves them to their business.
She also takes 6 wands. Gotta keep things tidy.

"Thanks Carl! Say, do you like to partay?"
She puts on the yellow boots. Always good to be protected from mud and electricity!

"Alright boys where we droppin'?!"
Follow after Mark!

5 - The yellow boots look fabulous on you as you catch up with Mark. He seems to be on the verge of either an altercation or therapy session with a big burly drunk man, whose boots are not as fabulous as yours.

Look inside the middle cave entrance, if those turnips attack, fire all 18 wands at them, preferably all at the same time

[ERROR: due to the limitations of the GM's poor braincells only One Wand may be used to fight at a time. Wands may also be dualwielded, firing two simultaneously, but the second wand's firing will incur a 1d6 Roll. When firing multiple wands successfully, both wand's quirks will trigger. Dual wield at your own hilarious risk]

You enter the Dungeon of Dega'da'dremamore through the Turnipmen entrance.

You enter an archway of braided roots, once ornately woven but now gnarled and caked with mud. Strangely the cave is rectangular, with finely carved flagstones that are broken from age. Roots crisscross through the ground. You spot vibrant colours on the mudcaked, root covered flagstones. Sunlight streams in from the archway behind you. Large muddy footprints lead to an ornate door in the North wall. before you stand four Turnipmen - two taller ones either side with spears, two small plump ones between them.

[Reaction Roll - 6/12 - Confused]

2 - You reach for your 18 wands but fumble, dropping half a dozen to the ground. The Turnipmen turn and look at you quizzically, if smushed vegetable faces can look quizzical. They chirp merrily to each other as one of the four picks up one of the wands on the floor. They seem to be on their guard, but not necessarily aggressive yet.

Investigate those strange tracks.

4 - You've never quite seen tracks like these before. They are small pinprick holes, not like hoof or feet at all. Bidepal, at least, but the tracks don't get very deep into the ground so you assume the creatures are quite light. There are alot of them, almost like a small squad of creatures, leading to the West. It looks like they were dragging something behind them - large, perhaps a human? A small piece of vine, braided like a rope, is caught on the rough bark of a nearby tree.

The arguing voices coming slightly north of you are getting louder, they're coming towards you with an eastward tilt.

Then put on the hat of vermin and look around crates for tent or something that could be used as a tent.

2 - Alas, you find nothing among the crates that you could use for that.

grab six wands and follow the group

((Sorry!  I haven't been on in a while.))

5 - You catch up with Mark and Terra as you pocket the wands.

6 + 1 from specialty - this is the most delicious, partytastic brew the man has ever tasted! His eyes clear and he stands a little taller. "They are amazing boots. My wife would love them. She wants a divorce. She says I dun listen." He tears up a little, "you're a nice lady and stuff, you know nice lady things. what do you think I should do?"

4 - You squint at the questboard and pay close attention to the rewarde:
Pirates roam the East Coast and the local sheriff would pretty please very much like them to be cleared out! Reward: deed to the cave they use for smuggling. All gold and found items belong to you. 25 XP per pirate slain or evicted and 50 GP upon completion of the task.

Mister Fitzgerald seeking intrepid explorers to head North and discover the legendary Beastman caves! I am a fossil enthusiastic who has found evidence of a lost world. 40 GP granted on completion of setting up Basecamp. A further 100 GP granted for finding a viable entrance to the new world! 6 - there are many delightful hidden places dotted throughout the Labyrinth. The great Dega'da'dremamore was once a well known elven stronghold, before demonic astral interlopers tried to strike it down. While places may be charged, it still stands tall - but some say it rots from within. Many homely creatures have made a nest in the anadoned hearttree, but dark forces lurk among it's roots as well. All in all, no longer a safe place to visit, though the vestiges of elven art and architecture remain.

Some say the old world still flourishes below the earth! Many an Adventurer has returned from the North to speak of mysterious caves. These caves supposedly lead to a verdant realm where primordial slimes and dinosaurs roam! These are clearly the rantings of madmen, left too long in the heat.

Southwest along the Lakeshore lies a hidden cave of crystal and treasure. Some day deep within lies the avatar of dreams itself. Countless delights are rumoured within, but few seem comfortable to venture deeper.

Big Church is the place to be! A pious society, but one that has abundant food and cheer. This time of year their streets are decked out in revelry for the festival! Come try your hand at many an amusing game and perhaps win paltry prizes and lovely fun memories.

Beware the haunted forest, bewitched by ghosts and spiders. The ruins of old barrows, harbouring the restless dead, lie dormsnt amongst the trees here. Some say a great sprawling undercity connects some of them through secret entrances, by those who may have found such riches remain tight lipped.

"Thanks. I don't know how to handle this kinda thing."
Check out that quest board since I got rescued by Terra, once I'm done reading what's there I'll head back to her to make sure everything's okay.
she did bail me out of that after all
3 - You make your way to the questboard. Your eyes glaze over reading the cutesy girlish script by you think you got the key points, maybe.

You return to Terra to see it seems she has made a friend?

Pick up the dropped wands and make friendly gestures toward the turnips to hand back the other wand
1 - They startle and take this as a sign of aggression. The Turnip accidentally fires!

You take 7 damage and suddenly find yourself covered in snails and slugs!

Ongoing: 20 XP may be granted if you can correctly identify this wand's Quirk Effect and Target. Gain 10 XP for determining this wand's Quirk Duration. (giving this for free since this is the first sighting of an instantaneous wand. Now y'all know the duration can be set to this.)

Effect of Quirk:
Target of Quirk:
Duration of Quirk: Instantaeneous

Take aim with the same wand, is it going to make me Hiccup again? or is it making me Drunk?
4 - You fire the wand through slightly blurred vision and do 2 damage ! It is not enough to kill the creature and both reptiles charge at you!

You gain 75 XP from correctly identifying this wand's Quirk Effect and Target..

Effect of Quirk: Causes Drunkenness
Target of Quirk: Caster
Duration of Quirk: 50 XP reward
Check who those voices are. Perhaps they'd be interested in aiding my search, if not for the money, then for the alcohol.
6 - You wander over to a pair of very dapperly dressed bandits. You see they have pheasants slung over their shoulder. One of them holds the lead to a small reptilian creature. They spot you but seem jovial enough.

"Perhaps this guy can help us," said one, eyeing your gunpowder stains. "Name's Paul - don't suppose you've seen any more Compys around here?" He says, gesturing to the small dinosaur on the red lead. "Someone busted the cage and a few got loose."

How exactly do I track health here? I might as missed something or can't remember

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Well those little turnips asked for it, quickdraw a wand and blast 'em!
Also guessing that wand quirk is the appearance/ creation of gastropods
and target of quirk is whoever the wand hits.

"Looks like these will be helpful to have."
Dig through the supply crates once more to see if I missed any useful items.

"Can't say I've seen any of those, but I have seen some rather odd tracks over here that may be what you're looking for."
I gesture towards the strange tracks I investigated earlier.
"I was already planning on tracking down their source if you wouldn't mind me coming along."
