Remember: Any item can be sold back to the store for it's Value in cold hard cash.Yes, thanks for the reminder. Worst case I can do that.
Obviously looking to cooperate with others. I'd much rather send Ugnan in with a second adventurer than alone, since 2HP is pretty sketchy solo. Also, it'd be good to rent a weapon from someone, so they don't need to go in with just a stick.
I suggest a 50/50 loot split, if you buy the leather armour from Quarque, and the shortsword from the store. I'll pay the expedition fee. That works out to roughly the same level of investment from both sides, making 50/50 a fair split (I think).Obviously looking to cooperate with others. I could work with finacing the weaponry if you want we can come to some rental or loot share agreement...

I am only willing to go as high as 0.68₣ for it instead considering it will be over 30% of it resale value.Well, the adventurer you are looking to support really needs it. Only 2 hp and high strength but low dex, so he has to get into melee range.

I s2g nuke this better not be another pyramid scheme.Just because the last seven times were, why would you think-
Sorry, but no. I'm offering a fair deal, I could have asked for a profit.
Ah, excellent. If you also get ye sword, then we'll be set to go (next turn, after the bids are processed). Preferably with a companion, but with the armour a solo venture would be doable.Sorry, but no. I'm offering a fair deal, I could have asked for a profit.
Fine, nuke offer looks good, I'll buy it for set price.
a1s: IIRC extra ammo can be bought instantly from the shop, correct?Yes
Maxine, looks like I got the shortbow.Does seem like we'll both get our respective items.
Would you be open to pool resources and start a joint venture? Basically, that would mean we buy stuff together and if we later were to split up, we split our holdings 50-50. People did this last game too, as a single player doesn't own enough to send out well equipped expeditions.
If we do, we could borrow some money from evictedSaint and buy lockpicks too. Being able to open chests repays itself in no time.
Edit: on second thought, that carrying capacity really limits equipment options. So instead of going for lockpicks, a better plan is probably for me to buy two spare ammo sets. They have a weight of 1 each, just like the bow. With 30 arrows we'd have a real chance to finish the dungeon at first try. Don't worry about carrying loot by the way, none of the loot I've seen has any weight.
The undersigned parties agree to split the proceeds of an expedition equally. Exact division of loot may be determined at the conclusion of the expedition, in an equitable fashion.

Traps in the first dungeon are duds, just to let you get a feel for how often traps come up and how good your adventurer is at avoiding them. This, again, is something veteran players know, so now you do too.Oh, good to know, thanks.
If any current adventurer is likely to survive a trap it's Ched, too. With Worclaw I'd be afraid to die to a dud. ;)Sure.
Do you commit the order to send them off? The way I proposed it would look like this:Spoiler: concept order (click to show/hide)

Scree and Canadian Kitten have softlocked themselves out of the game by spending most of their money on a terrible adventurer. Since they're new to the game and having more active players is fun, I wouldn't be opposed to offering them a one time refund option.I don't think 12+ is the minimum viable combat stat, I'd say you can get away with 10+ if you've got decent HP.
The minimum viable stats for an adventurer are basically either 12+ dex (and a ranged weapon), or 12+ str and a melee weapon. Adventurers below that threshold.. well you could hire them for the arena and bet on them to die to a rat. Foolproof plan.
3 Rats in a Trenchcoat LLC would like to team up on a venture.
3 Rats in a Trenchcoat LLC would like to team up on a venture.
Say, we could team up and be stick buddies
and maybe get lucky enough to get ourselves from this terrible situation
Ok, continue with same settings?
Carbon is clearly good for your health.
Send Ugnan home if nuke fine with it.I am fine with it. Are you interested in keeping any of the loot, or should we just sell it all and split the cash?
ActActActACTx3 can't be conditional. In this case the resolution was in the very next post, but in the future this is a bad habit and I will not allow it.
Send Ugnan home if nuke fine with it.
So many chests.Yes. We need lockpicks to be able to open them. Note that this isn't guaranteed with lockpicks, but a dex based skillcheck.
3 doesn't sound bad for anyone involved, even if we have to split the loot further, so I'm up for it.So many chests.Yes. We need lockpicks to be able to open them. Note that this isn't guaranteed with lockpicks, but a dex based skillcheck.
The problem is that our carrying capacity is not sufficient to carry the lockpicks. There are a few solutions we could consider:
1. Flazeo, maybe you would be willing to sell your backpacks?
2. Wait until a new backpacks shows up in the store
3. Hire the help of Scree, with his adventurer acting as a mule to carry spare ammo, so that Ched can carry lockpicks
4. buying a second adventurer for ourselves
Let me know what you think. Personally I am not in a hurry with any of those solutions and would agree to continue for now. Without opening chests, as long as we can march on that's still a steady source of income, not to mention experience.
10% interest a turn for any real amount of money seems to be more than what I can make in that time, at least while I'm still starting up.I think it's a fair rate. We've been rather unlucky these first two turns, from what I remember last game. Or maybe it is because we're missing the chests. I think that a loan to pay for lockpicks (and a new entry fee) would pay for itself quickly.
Sell it all, you can keep 0.25 of it instead of 0.24Gratitude.
By the way, @a1s: Ched did not start shooting until he was at a distance of 54 feet, while we specified a Firing Range of 89 feet. Is this perhaps an error in the combat script? No, it's a settings error. I accidentally set firing range to 59 instead of 89. Fixed now.
-snip-
1. Flazeo, maybe you would be willing to sell your backpacks?
Are you repaying your loan this turn or would you like to wait a few more?
I can sell it too you now if you want?Hmm, right at this moment I do not have enough cash to afford it, and it could be a while before I can put it to use.

Suppose if someone carried him until he levelled their owner might get lucky on the health roll.XP is split between party members (rounding down). You'd have to carry a dead weight through dozens of fights. Not a chance of being worth the effort, when you could just wait for someone better to show up in the store.
A good new adventurer would cost about 2.5F. If you'd be willing to accept significantly less than that as your share of the loot and Maxine agrees, I could potentially see an arrangement in the future. Your adventurer could carry a crowbar and spare ammo and sit safely in the back row for a carry.Suppose if someone carried him until he levelled their owner might get lucky on the health roll.XP is split between party members (rounding down). Maxine, I'm afraid I only have $0.56 left after my loan to Quarque. What you did have was enough to loan to one of us, but not both. That is why I made my offer slightly better than theirs, if I needed the loan, I'd spend a little more to make sure I got it. Aside from sharing expedition reports, each party is the full owner of their own expedition, meaning they are in charge of any decisions taken and receive all of the loot found during their own expedition.
Leftover ammunition and end of contract
Once Pvt. Olybeth Xander returns from his expedition, Saemon Havarian shall return the throwing knife and any leftover ammunition to Mr. Jack.
Once Ms. Rostish Reiff returns from her expedition, Mr. Jack shall return the shortbow and any leftover ammunition to Saemon Havarian and pay the rent of 0.17₣ per turn spent in the dungeon.

Looking back through the combat logs, I noticed that cats have an agility of at least 10, not 8.Are you guessing the agility is "10 or more" or "exactly 10"? rewards will be different (and you can't guess twice.)
(If there's any reward for the info, half of it goes to Maxine.)
My monkey brain gut feeling says [cat's agility] is exactly 10.Well done, going with your gut. The reward is 0.24₣.
A rat can drop a rat skull.and another 0.12₣ earned.
Wolf:
Strength: ~10
Damage: At least d4
Description: A vicious predator that has made the depths of the Overgrown Cave its lair. I suspect it was imported to serve as a guard animal, given the crude warning sign located just outside its lair. A single bite of its strong jaws is enough to rip out the throat of an unprepared adventurer, as my companion unfortunately discovered. Its fur is luxurious, if somewhat filthy from living in a damp cave for a long time.Spoiler: Look I'm no good at pixel art, so this is the best I can do (click to show/hide)
This is a contract between the owner of Sandbase Brewing, henceforth called Mr. Jack, and Saemon Havarian.
Trade
This turn, Mr. Jack shall pay Saemon Havarian a one-time sum of 0.19₣.
Next turn, Mr. Jack shall give Saemon Havarian a throwing knife.
In return, Saemon Havarian shall give Mr. Jack lockpicks next turn.
Time limit
Signing of this contract should not delay the deadline. If the contract isn't signed by both parties before turn 14, it is voided.
The intention of the contract is to enable Saemon Havarian to buy a crowbar in turn 13. If Saemon Havarian fails that, this contract is also voided.
Voiding specifically means that:
a) Mr. Jack immediately gets back the 0.19₣ from Saemon Havarian if he paid it.
b) All other obligations mentioned in the section "Trade" of this contract are dropped.

Yeah, that was exciting but it turned out well. That split is fine, go ahead and take the 2.85 package.Yeah, cheers for letting me finish it. Planning on at least one more run at the Cave, maybe two, before giving the Lair a go. Unless I've got someone else built up by then I'm probably going to want some outside help.
Thanks for adventuring together. I need to train my own a little now, but always open to new deals.

Planning to take a stab at the Troglodyte Lair once Ched is back and levelled, so looking for partners available next turn or the turn after.Sorry that Olybeth isn't the best match in his current setup. Ched can offer excellent ranged support to a melee tank. Flazeo, Nuke and Kashyyk are running characters that would pair up nicely. I'd especially recommend Flazeo to have a serious look at this offer, Hollie could make it with support like that.
@a1s: Suppose two adventurers partner up, with one of them in the front and one in the back row. The one in the front row retreats to their specified preferred shooting range. Now what happens if the adventurer in the back row doesn't have enough agility to keep up with the retreat? The adventurer in the back will be forced to stay in front of the front row. The whole rows thing is about setting movement targets and does not physically impact adventurer abilities in any way.
Will the adventurer in the back be pushed back further than he could run on his own?
Will the adventurer in the back be forced to stay in front of the front row?
Will the adventurer in the back force the adventurer in the front row to retreat more slowly?
Looking again at all of the combat reports I've seen, I'm pretty sure that cats and wolves have zero armor.Adventuring board of Charmark awards you 0.12₣

Obviously, I'm set to gain either way here. The only wrinkle is I need a small loan of ₣0.32 so I can send both Adventurers along, as I want to piggyback my newbie.
We can make it all official like later, but how do these terms sound Maxine?
You send someone with a Shortbow, I send someone with Armour and sword, and some dead weight. Between us we manage lockpicks and a Crowbar. We split the proceeds 50/50. If we both want a loot item, we offer to buy each other's 50% ownership of it.
Would Quarque be willing to loan me my shortfall? I believe the going rate is 15%.
sounds like you can abuse it by contesting anything I wantI suppose we could abuse it, but it's really just a simplification of the loot auction mechanics used before. I intend to use this in good faith. If the Overgrown Caves are anything to judge by, there will be plenty of chances to get this Troglodyte Loot for whichever of us misses out.
I have a concern you are going to retreat prematurelyI had actually assumed individual Adventurers could split off and go home early without affecting the others. Worth checking with the GM on that one.
I'd still prefer preference in how the loot is split, since I'm letting you have Ched Price, carrying them into a dungeon they aren't ready for, and offering to pay their way in.Whereas I would like to bid for the Boss loot. You could choose to bid for Ched Price, and I did have plans for taking Price through the Overgrown Cave myself, I'm just taking advantage of this opportunity. I don't think first dibs on all loot is worth ₣0.32.
Ahh, I may have miscommunicated. Technically any loot we find would be joint owned, so if one person wants to keep it, they have to buy the other person's half-share.It seems so. Just a different way of organising it, it doesn't actually do anything for how we solve both of us wanting an item like initially suggested.
The undersigned parties agree to split the proceeds of an expedition to the Troglodyte Lair equally. The expedition will be set up on turn 23, beginning no later than turn 24. Exact division of loot may be determined at the conclusion of the expedition, in an equitable fashion. In the event both parties desire to posses an item, ownership will be determined by an internal auction, lasting no longer than the turn it begins, the proceeds going to the losing party.
Expedition reports will be shared, and decisions (eg regarding whether to continue deeper or return) will be agreed upon after discussion. If no agreement can be reached, the default option will be to return to town.
Tabitha Fairchild contributes the Adventurer Dr. Ched Aral to the backline, equipped with a Shortbow, Backpack, 2 Spare Ammo, and Lockpick and pays the 0.50F expedition fee.
Kash and Co. contributes the Adventurers Ms. Carbon Teviegh to the frontline equipped with Longsword, Platemail, and Crowbar, & Ms. Ched Price to the backline equipped with Dagger, and Throwing Knives, and 1.0F in expedition fees.

Armour Class: 0?I guess I was wrong about the wolf having zero armor. However, combat reports show that it must be a very low value. Since leather armor is 2 and a wolf is sort of "wielding" that, I'll submit that it has 2 armor.

Could you please double check that this is what the code really does? Olybeth with 17 agility seems to be setting off traps more often than any other adventurer I've seen the logs for. Maybe the code actually checks dexterity, or perhaps a greater than sign is reversed?

Encountered a Troglodyte Warrior. They have at most 6 health, and at least 9 Agility. They drop Cat Hide, Rat Hide and provide 200xp.ABC awards you 0.42 florins.
Additional info about Troglodyte warriors: they have at least 3 HP, at most 5. They can also drop crude spear and hide armor. And you 0.36, sorry, it could have been more if you were the first to identify their HP and XP.
Now all that's left is to figure out their STR, Armor and damage potential. There's a way to get at least 2 of those without getting stabbed, but that's the only hint I will give.We could figure out STR by throwing bottles of whiskey at them and check when they die from stat drain.
An update on the Troglodyte Warrior is they have at least 10 agility, and I think exactly 4 health.Adventuring Board of Charmark awards you 0.24₣

Not sure if I should call this turn lucky or unlucky. Ched is out of arrows, so we either turn back now or press forward and hope we can handle the boss. I'm fine to give it a try if you are.None of my bussiness, but please be aware that if Ched has no arrows he's going to run forward until he's just behind the plate mail wearing tank, within javelin range. Ok more questions. Was I allowed to chicken out? If so, I'm running out of there in a hurry. Sorry to disappoint the crowd.Yes, you can forfeit the match at no damage to yourself. And you're already in town, so you can send Olybeth on an adventure right away.
And does this mean I return to town next turn?
Sorry to disappoint the crowd.Booooo, maybe the rats were more your level. :P (Though like fair, those guys just need to get lucky to get you.)
Yeah I really am sorry to chicken out, wanted to make some excitement happen. But this would be a death sentence - the problem is that I would be shooting 1 arrow every 2 rounds, versus 2 arrows every 1 round from them. Their ranged DPS outmatches mine by a factor of 4, roughly. I considered melee range but that would be suicidal too (I would likely eat an arrow or two to the chest whilst running up to them).Sorry to disappoint the crowd.Booooo, maybe the rats were more your level. :P (Though like fair, those guys just need to get lucky to get you.)

I guess if a rule is hard for the players to follow and for the GM to enforce it's probably a bad rule on those grounds alone. And other than providing a logical reason for stages to unlock one by one this rule doesn't bring anything to the table, so I'm scrapping it.Well, Ms. Rostish Reiff could have gotten some work as a Tour Guide, having completed the Overgrown Cave. But then again, I'm reasonably sure she would die horribly in The Mechanical Maze...so pass.
@a1s: Any way I can use resources/funds to subsidize something to add more equipment to the market?I was going to make you mine the dungeons for items, but this doesn't seem to be popular. :-\

buy 4 packets of 5 shares (20 total) from the Charmark Coal Corporation for 21.60₣
Cancelling the stock market order for the time being, as I misunderstood how that works.Just to clarify: Quarque could not buy 20 shares for 21.60₣ (because no one is selling for that cheap). In general buying shares is very much a 'no backsies' type of deal (you can re-sell of course, but that would usually be at a small loss.)
Taking inspiration from Dwarf Fortress, you can ask your market liaison to import things in general categories ("ranged weapons", "heavy armor", "health potions" are all good categories, "a +1 short sword" is not.) These items will arrive next turn and will be priced x2 of the usual amount. If you buy the items more can be imported. On the other hands if you don't buy the items the liaison will be pissed, and will not take orders for a while. So pick carefully.Wait, is "miscellaneous adventuring tools" (such as lockpicks, crowbars and backpacks) allowed as a category?
(To be clear: you still have to bid on the items, the minimum bid is just going to be higher)

I don't mind that sort of agreement, though we'll be right back at bidding once someone else makes an inn.We now have 4 inns.@Maxine: I'd be open to an agreement where both of us attract one adventurer every turn, that could save us both a lot of hassle and money.New rule for inns (changes nothing currently): There are only so many adventurers willing to come to the island. Avoiding traps now gives XP based on dungeon difficulty. In fact, enough with Obscurantism: traps give 100 xp in OC, 200xp in TL and 300xp in MM. But only if you avoid them.
Noted, I'm not too fussed either way, fine to trust it to work until it doesn't work.I don't mind that sort of agreement, though we'll be right back at bidding once someone else makes an inn.PS: would you prefer a written contract for this? I think you'd need to spend a token 1 cent on advertising for one Inn as well to prevent random assignment, but if you don't read this in time and the second adventurer happens to come to the Friendly Arm Inn I'll just forward the offer.

I suppose it is too late now to let Roald drink his one-hit potion? No, go ahead.
oh.. I was assuming the next fight was the Hamelin challenge. Each arena run is slightly different (especially if there's multiple adventurers.) Besides, that would be a waste of rats, as there is 0 chance of Roald losing or getting nicked.
Phew, thanks.I suppose it is too late now to let Roald drink his one-hit potion? No, go ahead.

Report the discovery of a monster known as a Mechanical Spitter. It seems to have about 10 agility and 10 health. It is worth 800 xp.
I'd also like to share that a Troglodyte King has exactly 20 hitpoints and the most likely armor value based on the hits Wass Azer scored is 3.ABC awards you 0.48F
ActActAct:Veresk Trata is worth 500 xp (he was a bit more capable than your typical trog scout)
- Request two health rolls for Dr. Wass Azer
- Roald Fitz leaves the arena
- Request one health roll for Dr Roald Fitz (How much xp was Veresk Trata worth?)

It seems to have 0 or at most 1 armor.
They have at least 6 strength and no more than 10, I'll guess it is 8.
They deal at least 1 damage and it is probably 1d4, since they attack with a spear.
