Is speciating still done alongside mutating as one action or is that two actions?
For anyone on the fence, a previous game was a lot of fun and it's very straightforward to play. (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=180513.msg8423408#msg8423408)
Something has to be said about all the games you start, and then abandon without notice, Magma.
Best of luck to you with this one, though. Sincerely. at least, the spec-evo stuff you seem to enjoy.

Do we start now?

Action 1: Parasitism of other animals.
Action 2: Natural numbing agent.
Action 3: Burrowing capability.
SS Action: Smaller Size

TSMP
Action 1: Parasitism of other animals.
Action 2: Natural numbing agent.
Action 3: Burrowing capability.
SS Action: Smaller Size
1, Mutate nose for smelling algae and other creatures
2, Mutate brain processing for memory improvement, to allow hiding places and food places to be better memorised
3, SS Action: Mutate gigantism, getting larger and larger
4, Then, after applying the above mutations, speciate it:
A: Improve keratin brushes adding sensivity with dedicated "sensing teeth" that can feel currents
B: Sharpen and concentrate keratin into seratted teeth-like barbs for predating on others
That order of operations ok?
Mutate: Thicker Membrane around eggs to allow for eggs to survive brief periods of being unsubmerged.
Mutate: Navigational ability & behavior preference to prefer spawning from where they hatched.
SS:Speciate the above.
Mutate: Better/larger Eyesight

(Benthic Bloatcovy)The Slimes are calling, they want trademark taxes.
Action 1: Body gains minor acidic properties, killing any nasty parasites or bacteria that may get inside.
Action 2: Sharp flesh tendrils made of muscles/protein for long distance attacking/food gathering.
Action 3: GIGANTISM
SS Roll: Gain specialized cells and an eel like nervous system to be capable of producing potent bioelectrity. This is most commonly focused through the tendrils, but can be used at any point on the body.
NQT's chart shows all slime returns to Slime. Though their number of creatures is impressive enough, the Ko-An dominated the biological game. You just went Found Magma and left after expening all the resources you could. You were a single step off the edge of extinction in multiple points, living off the success of others to compete against you.

I am opening the other underwater habitats all at once because you are 7 and there is only one habitable place right now. I didn't think this through. It is clearly very overcrowded.

I really enjoyed the knife fight arena that was occurring.
Someone needs to develop crabs and molluscs and maybe krill already.

Flying Kilimis (speciated from Flying Kilgore
Action 1: Feeding habit adjusted to the consumption of free (pelagic) floating algae through its mouth and out its gills as it moves.
Action 2: migrational pattern and spawning season: prefers to live in colder waters away from shore until spawning season, where it goes to beaches to reproduce in herds.
Action 3:emergency behavior: if a herd of Kilimis is unable to make it back to its preferred spawning ground, it will instead journey to the closest land mass instead, searching for conditions most similar to its origin.
SS roll: speciate the above.
Action 1: Develop early circulatory system to allow it to adjust it's body temperature.
Action 2: Improve upon it's tail to allow rapid movements for travel.
SS Action: Improve upon brain to allow for group tactics and retaining attention.
Action 3: Speciate the above:
3A: Develop filter feeding to allow more effective plant eating.
3B: Develop mineral digesting to allow to become part lithovore and send to Uch Shallows.
Fry-carrier Crushcovy
mutate: toxin resistance for fries
mutate: increase toxin potency
SS: support action 2

*Is this enough or is it suicidal to head down there right now?
You and Librarian need to invest on deep sea adaptations first. Such as having trimethylamine N-oxide in your tissues, or compressing your anatomy.OK, I thought that might be the case. I've amended my action. If that works, I might send some into the deep in subsequent turns.
1.Speciate Migratory Krillgore
A. Loses ability to swim & flight to instead adapt to sand dwelling
B. Send to the midnight zone. Lose beach seeking behavior as well, this thing lives there full time Maybe it goes to oceanic shelves instead.
2.Speciate Migratory Krillgore to a predatory species
A. Omnivorous tendacy.
B. Bigger
3. Off of action 2, make this omnivorous species capable of extended flight, as well as being able to see above water w/ nictating membrane.
*Is this enough or is it suicidal to head down there right now?
1. Improve nose hooks, specialising in hooks to hang off the Flashy Carriercovy and descendants, using the other fishes' known toxicity as a shield against predation

Gragnose dropcod is 15 cm in length and flashy carriercovy is 5 cm I don’t know how that will work
Blood_Librarian (Can you provide more details when voting? I had to fill in the gaps.)Yeah, sorry.
1: Speciate Migratory Krillgore
A: Sand burrowing and send to Eke Shallows
B: Evolve deep sea adaptations and send to Midnight Zone
2: Speciate Migratory Krillgore

B: Get bigger
3: Extended flight to 2A

Speciate Spadenose DropeelDude, stop speciating
1. Evolve to become more compressed, reducing the number and size of bones (to squeeze into smaller gaps to get to food, but also to withstand higher pressures) and send to the The Midnight Zone
2. Improve keratin brushes, enlargening mouth for more efficient brushing
Speciate Loud Pancod
1. Improve vocalisation, weaponising into a sonic snap to disorient predators and rival fish
2. Mutate hearing organ along back, giving it improved awareness and send to Eke Shallows
[SS] Speciate Grabnose Dropcod
1. Improve nose hooks, specialising in hooks to hang off the Flashy Carriercovy and descendants, using the other fishes' known toxicity as a shield against predation
2. Mutate bright pink and yellow stripes, to mimic the Flashy Carriercovy
Speciate Snapping Tullycod
1. Improve target selection/pattern recognition center in brain to better avoid eating toxic prey (or prey with markings that could indicate toxicity)
2. Mutate organ to excrete through the skin any toxins ingested
Dude, stop speciating

While I mostly mean that in a joking manner, I am slightly concerned someone would exploit this to mutate 8 times in a single turn for every turnDude, stop speciating
That's the point of the game, however. You speciate. Sure, notquitethere is following a very aggressive playstyle, but he is doing absolutely nothing wrong. Don't worry, you can easily just claim the still vacant slots. Just don't speciate on the Bir Shallows at the moment.
notquitethere
1: Speciate Spadenose Dropeel:

B: Improve mouth brushes

Crystalizedmine(Your votes are confusing, is this good? You can't speciate like that. A and B creates two separate species with two different mutations, not extend an action into two parts)
1: Speciate off of Spadenose Dropeel and mutate filterfeeding
2: Become flat and float on the surface
3: Heat resistance
SS: Become partially autothropic by harvesting choloroplasts from algea
While I mostly mean that in a joking manner, I am slightly concerned someone would exploit this to mutate 8 times in a single turn for every turn
He can. However, all those mutations will belong to 8 new species. He can't pile at most 4 at a single species. A and B are the mutations each new species will inherit.
The Ku did in fact exploit this for massive bio-engineering. Since their's was a race fused as one with much biodiversity on it's own. While I mostly mean that in a joking manner, I am slightly concerned someone would exploit this to mutate 8 times in a single turn for every turn

Though Magma has patched that by preventing vegetableism. So no silly 8 mutations a turn. (Maybe.)
Shellfolk said “screw slimes” and outplayed them though, so it’s all good.Shellfolk said screw this game and just left it entirely.
Thanks for the clarification and it looks good to me!

CopeWe did, they were called liveships. (Post an action that isn't just bigger brain. You don't have a near infinite amount of slime kelp to eat. Which you ate, all of it...)
(Tric, for the uninformed, is coping about me advancing the tech tree and intelligence enough to the point where is made a deal with volcano god and won by moving to greener pastures while Tric was making slime traps in the ocean.)
It’s all about the bigger picture Tric, just think of the long term.
Which is why I moved to a new planet with new resources. While still advancing tech and improving as a species.Make a game with them as the MC then~
Slime vs Shellfolk, Shellfolk won.
No amount of copium will change this. You tried your best, but hard work cannot beat genius. 8)

3: Speciate the above(?)

B: Carriercovy toxin resistance
SS: Support action 1
Yeah, but I don't picture Action number 2 as fine manipulators so much as long spear-heads made like a elephant or narwhals tusk, attached to limbs designed to swing around for a lot of momentum to kill when the hammer "head" isn't applicable.
If this isn't possible, we could simplify it into a elbow joint & shoulder joint analogue and just rely on two sets of muscles to do the swing work for a bio-mechanically simpler design.
I also don't think they are not really qualify as whale-like until they're at least 2 or 2.5 meters long.
And now we wait to see if Knightwing has ben eaten by Pepsi Man.

Is there a reason I have 3 different versions of the same animal?
Also, the game needs a format change of sorts...I suggest splitting the turn posts into two; split right when Uch Island begins
Each individual post in the forum can be no longer than 40.000 characters. Turn 8 right here is about 36.000.
I'll be looking at alternative ways to post. But landfall is postponed indefinitely.
Oh ho ho. I'm going to be very wicked this round. Very wicked indeed.... should we be concerned?

1. Lavaskin Hexagonbaga now forms schools to protect themselves from predators and to preserve more heatI want to edit my turn a little:
ss. Lavaskin Hexturtle develops claw/spikes at the ends of their limbs to protect themselves from predators
2. Lavaskin Hexagonbaga develops tail fins to be better propel themselves
3. Lavaskin Hexturtle speciates:
a. develops sharp keratin teeth and starts eating other fish
b. develops ears to hear predators(if it already has ears, better hearing)
Knightwing 1 species in 1 nicheI see that Knightwing still hasn't speciated.
Is merging possible here?Probably not easily. TricMagic's whole gimmick in the last game was cross-speciating spore stuff. He eventually merged a bunch of them into a sort of hivemind, somehow. Magma allowed other weird creative stuff like:
In this game I'm focusing on one overall species, with selection determining which survive and become the primary.Probably easier than trying to juggle half a dozen different branches.
Parasites will never be Apex, but you can't really get rid of them
So you're still alive right?

Hmm what's my beachdwelling currently missing to prevent becoming sapient. Also damn xenos are watching us.
The Canadian Kitten (You are going full whale route, huh)I think Canadian Kitten forgot one very important part of whale%, go on land and return to water.
1: Larger size for Gargantuan Dropalina (Regardless of this rolls success, dropalina population will shrink. There is only so much food.)
2: Ovoviviparity
3: Largee brain
SS: Sense of smell
I think Canadian Kitten forgot one very important part of whale%, go on land and return to water.Fortunately, I can evolve whatever I want without generally having to conditions animals had to drastically change. Unfortunely, I don't think my whales can go on land to eat stuff yet.
Apologies for giving false hope, I will post tomorrow after my dentist appointment
(I got grounded 😭)

Just curious:
What happens when all the species you have die?
1a: lose sapience for more toxin
1b: more brain
I'm pretty sure Magmacube considers dolphins to be sapient
I'm pretty sure Magmacube considers dolphins to be sapient
What makes you think that? I am I kinda do but-
Look guys, gonna be honest with you. Situation with poison fishies is going to go from bad to worse. While I don't know if dolphins tick 2 and 3 I do know they use tools. Considering that you consider elephants, whales, and crows sapient, I'm guessing that you consider dolphins to be too. But as you pointed out, the correct term is sophonence.
Sapience is not a very special thing. Elephants, whales and crows are also sapient. Being sapient only means that a creature has a sense of self.
But when we talk about sapience in this context, the correct term would be "sophonence". Sophonence is a whole another thing. It can only appear when these pre-requisites are fulfilled. They don't have to be all separately adapted. One can make the other automatically appear; as in, species with hands gaining high intelligence will automatically get primitive tool use.
1: High enough brainpower.
2: The ability to use this brainpower to express and exhance ideas.
3: Ability to comprehend oneself and other such abstract concepts.
4: Extensive tool use and mastery of own environment.
for the Domedewller
1. speciate:
1a: lose sapience for more toxin
2a: develop spines filled with toxin (derived from fuzz)
3a: more toxin
ssa: more toxin
1b: more brain
change b1 to SOLVE RACISMYou can do that?
change b1 to SOLVE RACISMYou can do that?
I hope they roll a 1 and spark off a genocidal war based on the shape of the bodies.
wait is this THE FIRST SPECIATION OF BRANGERLON? EPIC. Do you want me to adapt my crabs to be domesticated for you to use in your epic wars?
You know.. Increasing reproduction means needing to eat more in order to fuel it. On top of brains needing more to eat. And they live longer, so they end up self-competing and draining the sea dry of food.
Yeah. So the prey either need to evolve in response or die.
The ice age is literally about to kill them cause they have no cold protection. Let them die.You know.. Increasing reproduction means needing to eat more in order to fuel it. On top of brains needing more to eat. And they live longer, so they end up self-competing and draining the sea dry of food.
He is creating The Shellfolk. Again.
Ugh... INITIATE PROTOCOL NUTCRACKER!Yeah. So the prey either need to evolve in response or die.
It will be you who dies right after. But alright, let's plunge that way again.
FOOL, CAN YOU NOT READ, I HAVE MADE THEM EXTREMELY ADAPTIVE, THEY WOULD ADAPT TO THE COLD AND JUST MIGRAT TO GREENER PASTURES
But there will be a moment in which you will drain all prey and die.Which is why, as my duty of being prey, that I survive and remain an easy target of food.
You are an apex predator. Your existence depends on an abundance of prey. Any event a little bigger in scale than this single-turn cold spell will unmake you.
1. Lavaskin Hexturtle develops sharp teeth and does not bask nor clean other creatures. It takes bites out of other creatures(This shouldn't get rid of my chloroplasts because it has self-replenishing chloroplasts and there are other mixotrophs in the biome thus absorbing their chloroplasts)Wait, I change ss to Tailed hexagonbaga develops a larger cerebellum
ss. Earful Hexturtle develops a larger cerebellum(controls muscles and balance, helps movement)
2. Grazing Hexturtle speciates:
a. Develops hearing
b. Develops hearing, send to Bir Shallows
3. Bellynest Hexturtle speciates:
a. Develops hearing
b. Develops hearing, send to Bir Shallows
Isn't one of the covylossal biggest weakness is it's that too large now, that cold wrecking havok on prey population and it's lack of own cold protection means it's food to sustain it too much. Risking itself to exintinction.

flazeo25Change it this.
1: Acidic tissues
2: More Acidic tissues
SS: Improve acid spit
3: Speciate the above
A: Fix weight problem
B: Fix weight problem and send to Bir Shallows
FiveBalesOfHayI thought I gave them ears sometime... oh well.
1: Herbivory for Treehouse Yarom
2: Resin for Tunneler Yarom
3: Better coordination for Mob Yarom
SS: Speech for Tunneler Yarom (but they can't hear?)

Let's say I meant those hard egg shells!
