Title: When starting an adventurer in a city area
Post by: Rollory on November 03, 2007, 12:20:00 pm
(particularly for dwarf cities) could we PLEASE FOR ARMOK'S SAKE start NEAR THE GODDAMN CITY ITSELF.

Without an overview map like the fortress mode has, it is just about impossible to find where the hell things are.  Instead you spend hours wandering around in the mountains with no clue of where you are or where anything else is.

To find cities and buildings, hit Q and then Z. It should show a mini-map with the buildings clearly indicated.

I've found this only works when I've been given a quest from a mayor - otherwise I don't have detailed maps of the area.    :(

Does this work for those caves?  I always get so bored of looking for the damned things that I just attempt to kill everything in the vicinity (usually leading to an unspectacular death to wandering drunks).  Stupid caves.

Yeah, it works for quest goals. For finding cities (or at least making sure you're in the right area for the city, if it's a dwarven one you're looking for) and non-quest caves (see above) you have to go into the 's'ites menu and find the particular location you want. Of coures it only shows you a 3x3 area that it's in, and you still have to search that for whatever it is you want, but it's better than nothing.

Well, that singlehandedly saved my adventure mode experience.  Thanks! : D

On a quasi-related note, what do I have to do to actually report the death of a villain?  It was in my tasks to do so, but when I talked to the mayor again he just gave me a new task without any reward or anything.  Is that how it's.. supposed to be? D: (Didn't want to make a new thread for this)

When roads and signs and walls and other boundaries are in, things will be spiffy.

I: Yep, the whole 'and now for your reward' bit hasn't been implemented yet, and may take a while to appear.  Patience, man, there's a buttload of game yet to make.

For things that aren't in a quest try hitting Q then going to "sites", selecting the city you want to go and then hitting "z".

The mayor should first say "Amazing, you succeeded! You are a champion." or something like that, and then give you a new task if you talk about service. Not immediately when you report.
