I've made a handful of weapons that I can get in fortress mode simply by buying them at the beginning, making them, et cetra, BUT:
I mostly play adventurer mode, and as of yet I can't find a way to obtain any of my custom weapons. My very wordy question: is it possible to mod in a custom profession that can allow you to start with a certain weapon in adventurer mode?

As far I know, no. I believe it is coded.
But, the skill That your weapons use (Hammer, etc.) Is the proffesion that they are associated with.

If you really want to use it so badly just go in to the civ's entry and remove all other weapons that use that skill.

Okay, then, thanks again to both of you.
EDIT: Hmm. Even upon erasing all other weapons that use the skills of my weapons, making sure that it is in fact the right race, and even trying to erase ALL the other weapons of that race (human in this case), the adventurer still starts with one of the regular weapons - one of the multiple weapons that I just removed.[ June 13, 2008: Message edited by: Warlord of Woe ]

This is a guess, as I havent done much modding of DF at all, but maybe you need to remake a map before the changes are saved properly.

Yea... I just tried that and *TaDa* It works! Thank you to everyone. I can now use my knife, almongst other things, and more fun-like; I can now use my torch! :cool:
