Title: HEAT and burning bodies
Post by: BurnedToast on May 25, 2008, 03:27:00 am
Has anyone gotten the HEAT damage type to actually set creatures or bodies on fire? not just heard about it, but actually done it themselves?

I recall a while back a bunch of people (including me  :( ) saying it did, but in recent testing I've been totally unable to get it to set anyone on fire.

As far as I can tell it's exactly the same as BURN  :(

Actually, BURN provides different injury messages.

But yeah, Deon confirmed that you cannot light stuff on fire with HEAT damage.  Damn shame, but that's the way it is.

Not only messages, it's just another type of damage. I.e. piercing damage has more chance to pierce internal organs while bludgeoning has more chance to bruise the bodypart. Heat seems to damage the bodypart in general, thus destroying internal organs too.
I'm not sure about burn, I think it works the same way but with less chance to damage internal organs.
Also note that the Burn and Heat can't cut the bodyparts off and I think there's no insta-kill to upper/lowerbody (like "pierced through completely" or "frozen through completely" or "collapses in the lump of gore").

P.S. I may be wrong about no insta-kill... I recall something like "totally incenerated" but I don't remember exactly.

I've just been using HEAT to simulate acid damage. Seems to be close enough to what I want.

I think that heat is more suitable for energy/extreme fire damage and burn is more suitable for acid, though it's personal.

HEAT and BURN both have insta-death messages.  "It is incinerated".

Yeah but the end result of BURN turning a person into a fireball is not acid related I'm sure.

BURN puts people on fire(after dead),HEAT does not.

I tested both HEAT and BURN and neither one was setting anyone on fire.

The damage messages are not the same after all, the first 2 are different (singed vs blistered, burned vs charred) however the rest are the same, my mistake.

Shame about not setting things on fire, I could have sworn it was before but I went back and tested on some older versions and none of the version I tried caused HEAT to set things on fire. I guess I am remembering wrong or some other mod I was working on was messing with things.
