Title: Fun with lava.
Post by: Cajoes on May 25, 2008, 06:09:00 pm
How can I make it so a waterwheel can be fashioned from steel bars? I need to do something extremely inadvisable with a magma current.

Wrong forum.

And I assume yes. As far as I know, there's no set materials for anything, including Waterwheels. Although I don't know how good Magma is for generating power, as it flows rather slow and doesn't carry pressure, which may be what drives a waterwheel. Hell, maybe it's just water alone that can drive them

Not sure if that answers your question or is even relevant.

EDIT: Looking at the Wiki, I may be wrong. It seems Wood and Wood only.

Perhaps steel logs?

Make a reaction that turns steel bars into a type of wood that has the same stats as steel?

Ooh, that should work. Thanks Duke.  :)

Of course I don't think wood has the % tags that define the damage and block rating of that material like metal does.
So don't go around making Steel log swords, they'll be useless.

You wouldn't be able to anyways...  The most you'd be able to make would be shields, since dwarves can't make wooden weapons.

I was just thinking maybe somebody reading the conversation might have modded their dwarves to be able to make wooden weapons...
But yeah, steel log shields wouldn't be effective either.

You can't mod dwarves to make wooden weapons, only elves and other WOOD_PREF critters can have them for when they're trading with you.  You can't make wooden weapons in fort mode.

Except for crossbows, of course.

Okay, so I'm a XxModderxX.  That much we've established.
But my original point still stands in that the PERC tags don't work for wood.

A little moot point, since I'm making a waterwheel from steel, not weapons from wood.

In any case, a useless weapon would be handy for sparring, no?
