Title: how do you make your dwarves shoot webs?
Post by: numskully on June 30, 2008, 02:04:08 pm
why I'm asking is that a strange mood dwarf wants some silk, and I haven't seen any yet. can I mod an existing game so that my dwarves shoot webs for the silk?

thanks!

I guess they don't have to shoot webs, but I need to find out how to get silk from nothing.

this is a common question and probable should search before hand next time...

Add [WEBER] to them and have them hunt

or add

[REACTION:MAKE_WEBS]
[SMELTER]
[NAME:make webs]
[PRODUCT:100:(# amount):(dont remember the web tags)]

First of all, don't bother trying to stick webs into a smelter reaction.  It just isn't worth it, and you'll have a hell of a time trying to do it.

The [WEBBER] tag will cause dwarves to spew webs at their enemies, which can then be collected.   If you add the [THICKWEB] tag along with it, it will make the webbing strong enough to actually tangle up large creatures (note that this will make your dwarves the most fearsome fighting force the world has ever known).  But if you take that route, make sure you add the [WEBIMMUNE] tag so your dwarves don't get themselves tangled up in their own webs.

Thanks for the info, both of you! What file should I add this to? Sorry for being a modding noob.

I'd just like to say that I'm thrilled to see the (apparently?) first ever genuine instance of "how do i shot web" in these forums.

I solved my silk problem by adding webber to over 80% of the land and underground based creatures, including goblins but not Dwarves.

The only real bug I found is when playing as humans the silk shows up as plant fiber in the trade and embark screen instead of silk.

Nothing like watching a pack of dogs charge an ambushing group of goblins and both sides spray each other with web, with no effect.

The War Dog humps the goblin crossbowman's left leg! It is webbed!
The goblin swordsman strikes the War Dog's nether parts! It is neutered!
