Title: The Guess-the-historic-event game!
Post by: Asheron on July 02, 2008, 12:41:57 pm
The title says it all. I give you a picture, and you have to derive a historic event of it.
Find one, and get added in the =hall of points=!
Why, do you ask, would you do this? Why, did I set this thing up?
Because I'm bored. And so are you. Admit it.
You gain extra points if you guess multiple pictures correctly in one go.
For example, if you guess three correctly, you gain 1 point, another 1 point + 1 point bonus, another 1 point + 2 points bonus. Or something.

Hall of Points!
-------------

14 points - LeoLeonardoIII
6 points - Jualin
5 points - Asheron
4 points - LASD
3 points - Maggarg, eater of chickens.
3 points - Naze
3 points - Bullion
1 point - Strife26

So, here are the first pictures.

The second one down is about the roman empire splitting into the western and eastern empire.
The third is probably something to do with us (the British) colonising India, giving India back, or the East India company.
And tea.
Oh, and the last would be Bloody Sunday.
Not sure about the first one though.

The India part is crossed because people thought it happened there, but it didn't happen there. If you find that more confusing, just ignore this message.
Oh and, uh, notice the ship. Old ship. Over the sea. Hint.

EDIT. Apparently Columbus  ;D, I just wanted to post fast so that no one would snatch my points.

The second and fourth is correct, the third isn't.
The India part is crossed because people thought it happened there, but it didn't happen there. If you find that more confusing, just ignore this message.

Oh and, uh, notice the ship. Old ship. Over the sea. Hint.

Here's another one.
I can see what you mean now, but that is also the wrong kind of ship.
Colombus would have sailed in a caravel, and that ship is probably a tea clipper.

That last one must be the Alamo!
I think that it was triangular, and it does involve mexico.

Although Fargo is a fair bit away from the southern border.

I thought the first one with the cheese was about man inventing the wheel.

OK so the iceberg one is obviously about the sinking of the Titanic.

LeoLeonardoIII: Haha. A wheel of cheese. Anyway, the Titanic bit is correct.
LeoLeonardoIII EDIT: Indeed. You could try to randomly type in words and see what pictures you get, but in most cases that wouldn't help you very far.

The second picture is important. I'm looking for a certain name.

(http://img27.picoodle.com/img/img27/4/7/2/t_PIAm_145c980.png) (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/4/7/2/f_PIAm_145c980.png&srv=img27)

The Manhattan Project, Hiroshima and the end of World War II

The second is the building of the Great Pyramids. Probably the tomb of Tutankhamon, judging by the picture.

Do I get extra points for pointing out that Tutankhamon wasn't in fact buried in a pyramid? But I think the face of Tutankhamon here is intended to display a general egyptianism or faraonism. So my final guess is The building of The Great Pyramid of Giza.
Title: Re: The Guess-the-historic-event game!

Hiroshima/Nagasaki is correct, so is the Tutankhamon picture.
The first and second one are seperate btw. I'm a tad confused since you skipped it. It's the name of an operation.

2nd is Ceasar's betrayal by Brutus, where he said, "Et tu, Brutus?"

3rd is the crossing of the Rubicon by Caesar, where he said, "The die is cast." He was returning to Rome as an invading general.

The other two I can only guess at. I'd think that the first would be either Magellan's trip around the world, or the Copernican and Ptolemaic systems. The fourth might be in reference to the formation of NATO.

The very first one on the first time is a picture of the time I found a semi-paralyzed eyeless Pac-Man eating a hunk of cheese on my floor. Get out of my thoughts Asheron!

Get out of my thoughts Asheron!
Join the swarm, Awayfarer... Join us...

*cough*

The second and third are correct. I was looking for something more specific
( the Marshall plan ), but the NATO is also correct.
And look at the flag in the first one + old classic statue, hint hint. What could have possible happened in the classical age in that country? :)

Alexander the Great was Macedonian, wasn't he?

Is it Alexander the Great's attempted conquest of the world?

Hint:

leprechaun
car
snake

That it's a mustang is irrelevant.

St patrick driving the snakes form ireland.

Although a roman poet wrote about 500 years before "in Ireland (or roman equivalant) there are no snakes."

good job bullion. although the historical event in question was symbolized by that little legend - snakes were symbolic of pagan worship, so when they talked about st patrick driving the snakes from ireland it was probably about his work destroying the native religious practices in ireland to make way for christianity.

Another point for Bullion. I would have NEVER guessed that.
