Just saw the "nuclear cat-plosion". Wow. Bits of cat everywhere.
Apparently you make a living creature explosive... and incendiary. I was thinking of a new creature whose body parts are nothing but a hundred units of [SHRAPNEL]. Set their core body temp to the max possible, and their max temperature tolerated minimal. Have these explosive creatures dropped when the trigger creature dies, in the manner some critters drops a statue now. The trigger creatures die as close to instantly or easily as possible. Chain the trigger creatures up outside your fort. When goblins come to kill your "cattle", live explosives fall out of the corpses instead.
I can't mod to save my life... anyone want to have a go?

That is very well-thought out, but there is one problem; item drop does not drop creatures. I can't tell you how disappointed I am.
If there was a way to to that to people, it would be awesome to detonate one peasant in a crowd and watch as they all explode in sequence.

Could it be done with vermin?

Is it that hard to read the previous message? :D

Sounds like hitting the Nuke button in Lemmings.

I read the previous message, but I was under the impression that "Vermin" classes of creatures were their own class of creature. I don't know much about them beyond the fact that they can be created in a smelting reaction, so I thought that MAYBE it could be done, since they can already be artifically created.

just make the critture drop an explosive stone - with a min core temp.
-
VERMIN is just a token like SIZE or NAME for a creature.
The stone idea may work.

Yeah, I made the pop-pip-pop noise when I read it. :)
