Title: Mirordur Ranzar [Powerfist the Coalition] <Wasteland survival>
Post by: Deon on September 03, 2008, 01:42:51 pm
Introduction
Greetings, fellow forummates.
I want to start a community Vault in the great wastelands of the post-apocalyptic world.
I'm using the last version of my .:Fallout:. mod (http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=22554.0) [1.2] with a few tweaks (there're plants which can be processed into plastic to use instead of wood).

I want to start a group of refugees which fled the broken Vault and found a new and dangerous world. Some of them died, some left their group to join with the world but the left 7 are willing to start anew together. They may build another Vault or a prospering city like Shady Sands instead.

All ideas are welcome. I want to start in a desert biome with some features (no magma, I am too bad to introduce it to the Fallout atmosphere; well, you may admit it's a Glow-like high radiactive hole but it isn't). A cave or a chasm would be nice.

Also we're going to trade with ghouls, savages and other vault dwellers which became adapted to this world earlier than we.

Sadly I'm not a native english speaker and it stopped me from starting a fort like this for a long time. I will try my best, I promise, and sorry for all the upcoming mistakes and wrong sentences.

You're free to pick a vault-dweller with a profession. Try to cooperate. We may need a blacksmith to make some weapons and we're not gonna churn out crafts because idols and scepeters are not that great flavour-like. Also I don't want an ultimate dinery. I will ignore the possibility to buy a bunch of masterwork gauss rifles for a one nice buiscuit. I will try to trade with weapons, instruments (which are not musical ones here) and to play on prices.
Well, if we skip a weaponsmith then we may take one or two guards. Again, flavour-wise and for some increased protection. Note that many creatures in wilderness are very dangerous so if you pick a shooter I will accept it, but note that ammo is not that common.

Prehistory.
There was a usual underground day. People in the Vault-23 were fighting their boredom via different routines which made up their life. Vault-tech made everything for the humanity to outlive the judgement day.

Suddenly ceiling lights started to blink. Nuka-cola machine in the diner began to spit out cans, cleaning machines stopped and radio became mad.

"What happened, Grund?" - asked someone via the comm-channel.- "Looks like the temperature system in our block is broken, we're overheaten here! My people can't work!"

The old man behind the control pannel didn't answer. He was the keeper of this Vault and he knew everything before it happened. Old computers in the server block sometimes malfunctioned and were replaced by reserve ones but with time their supplies were depleted. The big machine stopped breathing, soon it will become another underground graveyard in the wastelands if they don't open the door in time because the huge entrance door was fully controlled by automatics and even the best miners would die of hunger and suffocation before they could breach it.

"Grund, I don't hear you! What happened?" - continued to crackle his comm-link.
"It's over". - answered Grund and opened protecting case to the left of his shoulder. There was a red button with a letter "E" on it. It could mean "entrance", "escape", "evacuation", "end", anything. He held his breath for a moment and pressed the button.

Pleasant old jazz music started to play on every level of the Vault and hidden screens appeared on the previously empty walls.

A globe appeared on the screens and there were "A Vault-tec presentation" words.

The text started to appear:

"Leaving the Vault be sure to remember these basic rules.
Rule number 1: Line up in orderly fashion.
Rule number 2: Use protective eye wear. Years of living in the Vault can make the eyes sensitive to natural sunlight. Without protective eye wear, EXTREME eye damage could result.
ONCE OUTSIDE THE VAULT, be prepared to live Anew!
With Help from the...
GARDEN OF EDEN Creation Kit..."

Grund bitterly smiled. There was no G.E.C.K. in his Vault. They were limited and made for V.I.P. Vaults only, but people were feeling safer when thinking that they have one in their Vault. Everyone was fooled by government which tried to hide it's population in Vaults to stop possible civil war due to high civillian death rate. And now they are very likely to die in the destroyed world outside.

Grund switched off his control panel and took out a blue pill from his suit's pocket. He had been sitting in his automated comfortable chair behind the control panel for many years. He left it only to go to sleep or to make a monthly inspection. It won't be easy to walk freely for him again.

But there were more serious problems before him. The Vault door had been opened and his people were confused and lost. The time for the final decision has come.

Reserved for upcoming teammates and start info.

Arrange skills and stats and choose your items/possessions/profession/skills.
If you don't know the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system: the stats are Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck.
From 2 (terrible) to 10 (heroic). This is flavour-wise and I'd like you to set it.

 Which weapon do you want? :)
Also skills distribution is up to you. I can use Dwarf Companion to alter your ego (i.e. gender) and name. Also I will use it and Tweak for "quests". I already plan a "Reclaim a waterchip" quest if we start on a map with no water.

Look at the 2nd post. I've edited it for persons who create their characters. Don't forget to select name/age :).

Sniper rifle. Dwarf companion causes interesting things when you mess around with gender...and I'd prefer it if my character was heterosexual. And I'd prefer it if I wouldn't run into combat once I've run out of ammo, so please unenlist me when I run out of ammo.

Oh, and as for a name? V1kt0r/V1kt0r1a.

EDIT: you probably want stats, too. Str.:3 Per.:7 End.:6 Char.:5 Int.:5 Agi.:9 Luc.:6 V1kt0r/1a is very good at sitting still for extended periods of time hiding under a rock and blasting the instant an enemy makes itself apparent. Age? Umm....mid thirties. Slightly grey hair, lanky build. wears silly looking red goggles and a scarf. Sniping gunnery 5/ambusher 5.

Uh, lesbian vault dweller? :) I'm afraid I can't allow it in my vault. You would be banned and would save a world somewhere on an oil platform in the sea.

If you tell me that the DF makes weird things, I'd better skip gender tweaking since I don't want to savescum.
I will use it anyway because I want combat reports on to show some epic fights to their owners.

Also do you insist on adding those numbers in the name? And again, skills?!

P.S. Int 0 is not possible. You can have it at 2 but it will mean that you can't normally speak, just a few phrases. Are you sure? :)

I'm not on the ball this afternoon, cut me some slack. :P I've edited the post so it's all proper n stuff now. And V1kt0r/1a always writes his/her name that way. It's just pronounced normally.

I will try to be a good ruler. However we should wait for others. I will try a few fun tweaks which will be incorporated in 1.3, maybe we'll start with them.

Also I've noted that while literally butchering your *** in adventure mode some creatures try to avoid people in the Fortress Mode and vise versa.

I didn't get it, is your name Getz? :)
Do you want me to spend your remaining skillpoins, what about stats etc.? I can do the work if you don't bother but I give you a possibility to customize your character.

I didn't get it, is your name Getz? :)

I think it's Liwjatan.

I mean the character name.
And now I see that he was just typing. Sorry for misunderstanding. You're definitely in :).

P.S. Liwjatan, youre build should be very useful :).
a) He crafts/makes weapons;
b) He uses furnace (plastics! Beds! Buckets! Everything)

Well, this is already enough to be an important person.

Scrap piles are in. Plastics from plants are in. You're in. There's no bowmaker skill now, "no wooden items allowed" :).
Weaponsmith makes weapons and, well, we have one.
Doesn't the scrapmonkey want to be an armorer/mine lurker(miner) instead?

Also we need a provisioner (he'll be the Trader noble, planter and brewer).

If there's no wood, then what are beds made out of?

And yes, miner instead of bowmaker is great.  Basic scrapmonkey.  Does all that mean carpenter and woodcrafter are also useless?

I said no wood? But scrap piles and plastics replace them well. Also there are occasional saguaros.

Carpenter and woodcrafter are ok.

In her first five minutes of life, Jay nearly suffocated three times. First when she came out with her umbilical cord around her neck, Second when she inhaled the fluids of her mother, and thirdly when her mother nearly crushed the babe to her breast in relief that Jay was still alive.

From that day it has seemed that Jaylmac has had the curse of the demons themselves. In school odd events often occurred causing her to be late (nearly always resulting in missing tests and quizzes), and whenever a lottery was drawn Jay always was found on the losing side. Indeed, she had hardly been promoted to head provisioner in her district (allowing her to trade food and goods and generally promote and improve her friends), the worst type of disaster occurred... the vault she lived in began to malfunction.

Fortunately, years spent avoiding the backhand of fortune has given Jay many boons. She is keenly aware of her surroundings and very intelligent, able to pick out strange details and remember them for unreasonable amounts of time. Her ability to digest and decipher information falls just short of genius. Much to her own dismay much of the time.

As for her physical skills, well, there is little remarkable about them in any way. One of her few blessings in the road that lies ahead of her.

Attire: Even before the evacuation Jay often wore highly varied and unusual clothing, but her  arrangement of such was tasteful enough most of the time that her kleptic combinations were well-liked. Indeed, she has set a few mini-fads amongst the other women of her communities. When the evacuation took place Jaylmac was wearing a baby blue button-down blouse over vivid pinstriped pantaloons, adorned with a cream colored off-white vest, and topped by a simple black beret that held in her dusky blonde hair. Somehow, somehow she actually was pulling off the look. Don't ask me how, but she did.

Aside: I'd really prefer once the fort gets on its feet with a number of other people planting/cooking/brewing, for her to become a full-time clerk with Bookkeeping, Managing orders, Trading, and Architecture all enabled.

Edit: Also, you can make crossbows out of bone provided you didn't mod them out entirely. It still uses the Crossbow-making skill.

Edit 2: Wow, I totally missed charisma in your original post. :o

Name: Richter The 'Black Baron' (Note that the last part is simply a Nickname, please don't refer to him as so ALL the time. And in later game time aswell.)
Age: 28
Str.: 4 (He's not extremely strong, but hey go figure, he kills from afar.)
Per.: 9 (He's a Sniper. Go figure.)
End.: 7 (Refer to Agility. RUN RICHTER! RUN!)
Int.: 10 (He's extremely intelligent, and therefore, extremely tactical. You would want Richter in your warroom for sure.)
Agi.: 6 (Running from the rageing hordes of savages across the wastelands is hard work when you run out of ammo, and DISTANCE!)
Luc.: 3 (Not usual with luck, nor does he put serious trust in the matter, but rather into his skills.)

Preferred Job: 'Sharpshooter'
Not sure what else to tell you. I want a Military job for my character. But the only thing about that is, I want him to take on a useful job, and you happen to need most at this point, but when you have the equipment, I'd like a Senior Sharpshooter, feared across the Wastelands.

Bio:

Richter is a quiet one. He's always been quiet, but its quite obvious he wasn't born into an American family. His German accent has not been tamed out of his voice when he ever speaks, but his languistic skill would rival that of a real English Gentlemen. His rare and withdrawn manner may account for the fact that noone trusts a outsider, and if anything, Richter is a outsider, with his shadowy background, his strange habits, his suspicious know-how, and of course he being from outside of what was once the United States, but now a wasteland, is clear enough.

He is known to have a good eye for weaponry, and around the vault that was once his 'home' knew him as a Intelligent young man, if strange, who could keep a clear head in danger.

What is known about this dark, or perhaps heroic German, is that hes a hell of a shot with a Sniper rifle. Only time will tell if hes the former, or the latter.

OOC:

Sorry if my assumption was out of bounds, but I'm assumeing that the continent is North America, as it was in the real Fall Out games, and that were useing that as a setting, rather then Fall Out 3 in a DF Universe. It seemed so as the Mod your useing replaces most things that ARE DF. I'll fix it up if I got a little ahead of myself.

Be ready to do hard work before we get some new blood :). However you're ok to have your own shop ('trade depot') and an office building later.
Sadly we can make metal crossbows only since I removed the bowyer profession to avoid a burning desire to make some bone laser pistols. However we may pick some metal ones on embark/buy some wood ones from savages.

You are right, it's America and DF stuff is reduced to mininum. I'm still thinking what to replace mountain goats with though :D. It looks like we have 2 sniper riflemen on start, that's good.

True mountain goats actually originate from the Rocky Mountains, in America. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_goat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_goat)

Additionally, a number of modern Americans also own domesticated goats (which are not even the same species as true mountain goats.), implicating that the survival of goats in a post-apocalyptic world (via nuclear fallout) is highly probable.

Oh, thanks for that, now I'm feeling myself better :).
Let's let them live. At least we'll get some prey we can hunt for without being hunted :).

Also I'd like to simulate "moods" as quests to outside world. Well, we don't have the ability to send scouts/armies world-wide but we can roleplay it, right?

So, "withdraws from society" will mean that the person left the city for a while. He may return with a valuable loot or mad and tainted.
Any suggestions how to improve this idea are welcome.

My only comment on moods is that possessions should *defiantly* be played out in a confrontational way, perhaps even having an effect long after the game "mood" ends. (The entity possessing the character should be actively opposed by that character. Successfully mastering the entity results in a melding of the possessor and possessed, immediately uncovering an artifact hidden nearby. Failing to master the entity would result in loss of will, headaches, nausea, dizziness, intense suspicion of all others, bouts of rage, intense melancholy, or insanity, eventually leading to death. The exact result would be dependent on the personality of the possessed, and the personality of the possessor.)

Well, I have some troubles with immigrants/traders. I will see if they are working and you in turn can play for 1 year to note it. I have no "no trade" with other species but I haven't seen traders in play test game yet. I'm starting now and I'll save the game to test the traders/immigrants thing.
I'll make sure that the turn 1 will be completed today.

So, we've started. I'll use this post to fill the starting information. It will take about 30 mins.

The survivors have embarked on the journey. There were only thirteen of them who stayed in the Grund's group, others scattered or stayed inside of dying Vault.

Grund ordered to get two brahmins from the bio-sector and to harness them in the old transport wagon which was used for transporting materials in boundaries of one Vault level. They put everthing they needed inside and headed to the outer world.

They were travelling for five days. When two of them left behind dead and their food supplies started to run low Grund decided to make a temporary camp. They can't move without a purpose, they need to set a temporary base to coordinate operations.

Survivors have found a valley near a desert cliff and decided to make the camp there.
Grund ordered 4 of the survivors to scout N/E/W/S/ directions. Remaining seven started to build the camp.

"But we should name our group someway, shouldn't we?" - asked Jeff. He was a worker group superintendent before. He took his pickhammer with him insisting that this tool is useful as a weapon and as an instrument at the same time.
"Is there any point in it?" - rejected Grund. We're not going to write a book or to build a statue here. Why do you want a name?
"At least they would know how to call us when they find our bodies" - bitterly parried Jaylmac. She was one of the only two women in their group. Everyone knew her for her sharp tongue and unusual ways to solve life problems.
"Well, you're free to get any. We're not saving the world here anyway so pick anything you like." - tiredly answered Grund. "Unpack the supplies."

The first building was built by labouring survivors. It is a supply depot which stores their remaining goods. Now they should think of defence. The leader has commanded to organize a hospital and basic sleeping quarters in the nearby natural cave which was extended by miners' tools.

Here you can see Victoria guarding the supply depot entrance with her dog "Sunpower".

By the way, what is the fallout series like? Is it like S.T.A.L.K.E.R?
Title: Re: Mirordur Ranzar [Powerfist the Coalition] <Wasteland survival>

Huh, no. But when you look at the fallout 3 trailers you may think so :).

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. tells you about a tainted magical place which appeared after the explosion in the Chernobil nuclear plant. It is based on the great book of "Brothers Strugatsky" russian writers and tells about terrible "zone" where the nature is twisted and it plays against humans who damaged her. And it's said that there's a secret room somewhere in the heart of the Zone where you can get anything you want. Stalkers are people who search the zone for artifacts (things created by the Zone) to sell them to feed their families (which are often mutated because they live in/near the Zone).

Fallout tells us about a broken american dream in the post-apocalyptic world. When the apocalypse began many people were already hidden in underground Vaults. You're one of the vault dwellers and you head to the outside world to find it highly radiated, mutated and dangerous. There're ghouls, who were once normal people but their vaults were broken/opened too early and they mutated in undead-like dying creatures, there're supermutants who were created in experiments via F.E.V. virus (the virus created by government which caused most mutations) and there're common people: savage ones who believe in new gods and live in villages and more civilized once who had left vaults before you/survived on surface and now they dwell in and rebuild old cities.

No Trade can result from a civ not having pack animals.

Days passed. The settlement was running low on food so survivors decided to organize a farm to grow plants. Jaylmac volunteered to run it but requested to make a hall because she wanted to turn the place into diner if they succeed.

The settlement is under constant harrassment of old mechanical creatures. They look like old service bots but they try to sneak inside buildings and fly away from humans. Victoria scared them away with a few shots but Grund censured her and asked to save ammo since these robots seem harmless.

When the autumn came there were no reports from scouts still, but the settlement became self-sufficient enough to survive thanks to Jaylmac's hard fork at farm.

Richter asked to take a part in her business and started a small still to produce chemicals from plants they grow.

It was a usual autumn day. Jaylmac was working on her farm when suddenly she noticed something on the face of the cliff far away. It was a spark, a spark of sunlight on a metal. She continued to watch and saw that some group of people with heavy wagons approach them.

"Intruders!" - she cried and ran into the farm.

When the people approached they were amuzed to see the place.
One man went forward and approached to our survivors' group. He was wearing strange colors and had a small computer on his belt.

"Greetings, strangers." - he said. "I'm Jeeves Henster, I'm liaison of this land and I lead this caravan to trade with other settlements behind this desert. It is our old route but we've never seen this place. Did you build it? Do you live here and who are you?"

Grund explained the reason they are here and told them that they barely hold their life with the supplies they have. Jeeves allowed spared some food and got different remaining instruments survivors had but didn't use. Also when the traders were departing Jeeves told them that they can get almost anything on their way back if Grund's people would be able to find a way to pay for this. Thus the first contact with the outside world has been established.

Here you can see the farm and traders in the supply depot.

The depot is complete and there's access to the roof, but it's made for critical situations.
For now you're needed at entrance so your dog may detect robo thieves. It's safe, believe me, your dog is doing the job well.

By the way, I've started to dig a mine and I plan to make miner's office near it with Jeff in charge.
But suddenly THIS happens...

Jeff was taking a break from his work. He walked near the mine entrance, smoked remains of his Malboro and was thinking of future. How will it look? Are they going to make a trading outpost in desert, a mining colony, or a small unknown graveyard.

Suddenly his senses vere disturbed by a terrible smell. He turned around and saw... No, it was not a man. An ugly creature in smelly rags without an eye and with rotting skin was looking at him. Jeff didn't notice how IT appeared. Let's hope it's not too late to run...

Jeff was running to his settlement from mines as fast as he could. He looked around just one time and noted that the creature is not moving. It sadly stared in his back with it's single eye.
Suddenly he heard shots ahead. He stopped. The shots repeated. They were definitely from the supply depot or from the farm.

When the Jeff arrived he saw a body of an ugly human with enormous muscles and greeny skin lying near the depot. His head was blasted by shot.

"There's another in the farm. They tried to kill Jaylmac!" - yelled Victoria, appearing in the farm's door.
"They?" - asked Jeff, confused and nervous. He saw two ugly humanoids today. That's too much for a sunday morning.
"Sadly we let another one go. But Sunpower did a nice job with the first one. He was holding monster's weapon arm while I shot it. I can swear I shot it three times in the head and it still lived for a few seconds!"

(http://i35.tinypic.com/2ccql1f.jpg)
(http://i37.tinypic.com/6sugso.jpg)

An Attack of 3 supermutant thieves (saboteurs?). They appeared from mountainside and headed directly in the farm from the back door, bypassing the depot. Sunpower was there in time to protect Jaylmac and got the first hit. Then Victoria arrived and spent almost all her magazine to finally shoot the evil creature in the head 3 times. The second intruder became mad and ran out of farm directly into the depot where he was killed by caravan guards immideately. Third intruder decided that his life is better than his death and escaped. We have almost no ammo now though... I plan to steal some from the caravan.

Victoria is unharmed and Sunpower recieved a grey damage to the lower body so it's ok.

Survivors gathered at the supply depot.
"Is anybody hurt?" - Asked Grund. "I don't see casualties amongst us but they could damage or steal our supplies."
"They often come with caravans." - said Jeeves Henster. "I should hire better scouts. If we've noted them following our wagons this wouldn't happen."
"Wait, where's Jaylmac, I don't see her?" - shouted Aquizzar.

Jaylmac appeared in the door farm.
"We're doomed."- She told. "Our farms with all crops are destroyed. They managed to do it while we fought others. Now we have nothing to eat..."  -

(http://i38.tinypic.com/ouphet.jpg)

Mutants' saboteurs were much more clever than I thought. They did real harm to our beloved food chain... The third one was not a coward, he was making his job. When they were spotted the first one remained to fight and the second one ran to the depot to definitely die but drag attention of people. The third bastard used this time to sneak to the cellar of farm and destroy crops. When he succeeded, he headed to home.

Well, shit. That's bad, alrighty. Damn monsters are all over the place. Methinks we should smack some drawbridges in post haste and seal ourselves in, if we can get the farms going again.

We have seeds so the farm is up and going again, but it slowed our progress.

Now comes this...

Aquizzar with Jeff went into the new Grund's office room underground.
"Sir, we have a report. A ceiling in our mine became wet so we started to dig up and found that there's an underground river in this mountain! Water!"
"That's great, now we can start works there to make a well and water industry. Finally our place can become an oasis in this desert". - Shouted Grund.
"Not so fast. There're creatures in the water. I mean, many creatures. We escaped but I can swear we've heard the sound of hundreds slapping steps behind when we headed to the exit of the mines."

Holy sh....

Victoria was standing at the supply depot entrance looking in the night. There were a lot of ambushes recently so she tried to detect anything in the dark. Suddenly a strange buzzing sound appeared behind her. She quickly turned around and was pierced in the belly by a metal rod. She fell on the ground spitting blood. A round robot with a single sensor and a sharp blade mounted on a long manipulator under it's hull was floating in front of her. The robot raised it's blade and Victoria closed her eyes, prepared to die. Suddenly a loud barking distracted the robot. It turned around and was knocked down by a dog. Sunpower arrived just in time to help her master. Victoria quickly raised her rifle and sent the robot flying with one precise shot in it's hull.
She stood up and walked to her bed. Her wound was not too terrible but it was very painful. She took out her portable autodoc and remained sitting on the bed, watching in the depot entrance, prepared for new horrors. Sunpower steadily sat near her leg looking loyally in Victoria's eyes.

You wound is not terrible (it's brown) and you don't even rest on your bed. I think it will be healed pretty soon, however I start on perimeter defence after I complete the pub's roof.

Oh maybe she saw how aggressive he dismembered that floating eyebot he met near the mountain... Uhh, I hope she was not damaged THERE during the last robot attack, or the Furnace master would be really disappointed.
I leave this part of the story to your imagination.

P.S. Jaylmac, sorry, but you're my lover now too. I think that your nasty girl likes old farts like my character :).

Aquizzar headed to the mines. He wanted to pick a few nice boulders and examine if they had any kind of metal's signs. He'd read a book on geology some time before he left the Vault and it could be his chance to get the leading role in the mines' development. Suddenly he heard a terrible hissing inside. He was clever enough not to check what caused it and he turned back to the settlement to inform the leader of the possible threat.

Congratulations. Now we have Wanamingo Mines.

I tried out adventure mode as a falling eye. Went into a cave to cool off my hull from the scorching heat and got my weapon mount ripped off by a giant rat. I fled, shorted out, and passed out from pain a short distance away. Adjust your raw files. Robots do not bleed or feel pain.

They do, if you remember fallout. They bleed with black goo (inner cooler/fuel) and "feel pain" = malfunctioning due to high damage to schemes. Remember, they are Old Crappy robots :).

Also it's not a fallen eye but Floating Eye Bot, military scouting robot.
And let's discuss mod in the mod thread (http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=22554.0). Anyway I'm gonna add sentry bots (big military machines, they definitely feel "no pain"/bleed with fuel because of their ultimate military hulls and have a flamethrower/rocketlauncher mounted on their arm).

I find Jaylmac falling in love with Grun both bitterly ironic and sweet at the same time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From the Autobiography of Jaylmac Sengrab Sefolozor - "For Science"
    In the latter years of my life the question has often been posed to me as to why I choose to accept Grun's offer of engagement over that of the others. They lay claim to my position as one of only two women from the original seven, and with my headstart into later positions of power, to leading me to choose any person I could have wanted as a suitor. My closer female friends, those who sought my company for who I was rather than for my position at any rate, often asked why I did not take up with the far younger Jeffry, or the influential Aquizzar, or even the brilliant and enigmatic Richter. My jealous rivals and misinformed political opponents have even went far enough to propose that I took his hand initially simply to entrench myself even more firmly into the community as a leader and trailblazer.
    In truth, sometimes I had chosen him for political reasons. However, Grun... my gentle, brilliant Grun. He swept my heart away in a such a method that no other could compare. His tongue was as brilliant as his mind, and although his native talents made me feel mute and slow when in his presense, not only did he refuse to belittle me, he actually encouraged me to use the talents I had to their fullest potential, and never once did he scorn my input.
    Even before the evacuation I had known him. While we had not worked closely Grun, the old man who watched and maintained our home was always there. Always fussing and adjusting the Vault-tech so that he could squeeze out a little more water here, a handful of nutrients there, or conserve a few joules of power in one subsystem. Once, back when I was in secondary school and he was a senior provisioner, he had come in to give a lecture on resource conservation. Even back then, though he was younger and far more vibrant, he had a regal bearing. One that drew and riveted the attention of the entire room as he gave a short presentation on resource conservation. Even though the topic was as dry as the chalk that wafted from the blackboard, the life he put into his words was enough to invigorate the entire classroom, drawing him one of the longest and most heartfelt applauses that had ever been given in my memory.
    It is without doubt in my mind that my attraction to him was, in part, his brilliance. But far more important to our relationship was his personality, his heart of hearts hidden closed behind a narrow door, that he only revealed to me that day when he first asked for my hand. After all of that time working and planning our future, the future of our people, with him, how could I have refused? For the mind, and  the male body at least, time means very little. In this world where everything is barren and dessicated, we were going to bring both new life and new ideas into fruition, plunging together into science and our future.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now I have this horrible premonition that the two will get married in a few years, and then Grun will die only a few months before their first child is born. :o

@OMG: HAHAHAAA! Thats halarious. The one elderly person in the group gets the chick over the...well okay, we have a blob, a suspicious German, and a few other meat sacks i forget. I must concur. Irony, the Omni-Hammer of injustice.

@Current Events: Good. And don't worry about it. When you can get the supplys out, get the harvast in, or find the materials, then we can worry about all that training. As for Richter....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Journal of Richter Fikuktherleth, otherwise known in his later years as 'The Black Baron', Terror of the Wastelands.
Number One:
It is good news. Good news that I escaped the failing Vault with my life at what little I hold dear to this world, good news that we arrived safely at a place of rest, or perhaps what is to be our new home, good news that I have found use of myself, and good news that I found a journel to write in!
We set up shop in this forebodeing wasteland, though it does not seem entirely hopeless. Take for example the material makeup of the ground we settle in, or perhaps the surrounding raw material, or even the surrounding wild life to hunt off. We could do something with this land...or die away along with the rest of the world.
*There is scruf marks here* MUTANTS! Damn Mutants! They come to take and kill what we own and what we love! But the evil things have been struck down as it should be! This gives me great pain that I was not there to defend my fellows. In the future, I should correct this and our defences, yes, a ranged defence with metres if thick stonework might do, if we but had the raw material and work force.
Or perhaps a elevated tower system...mmmyeh. I will talk with Grun about this. When the old man is not busy with his 'lover'. Hah! That girl always seemed to moon after him so. Funny things take place when your alone in a barren deathtrap.
*A later writeing*
I'm keeping busy, processing materials needed as of yet. My weapons training is as of yet unsatisfactory. I will correct this when we are not short of hands. And supplys! Were not drawing in enough materials to errect proper structures...If I had my way, we would have a small force already patroling our area, chaseing off those Mutants! Ahhh but we do not. There is no-one to train, and nothing to train them with. Perhaps others who escaped will join up with us, and we should do proper with bringing terror to those scum!
*The Journal cuts off for now*
Hm. Some poor souls trying to prosper in a radioactive, highly dangerous desert, beset by crazy robots and treacherous super mutants. Boy, I wouldn't want to live there!
...might i request a dwarf survivor?
Vinnie, 26, a hardened male immigrant set out to build a inn, hotel or a bar near a promising town.
S: 4 P: 6 E:5 C:3 I:4 A:7 L:9
Vinnie is not the most handsome, nor the most friendly man around. Actually he's not that smart either. But he gets by, somehow.
He left his home (a vault or a nearby town - whatever suits the story!) due to a feud with some local thugs. What's the feud about? Well, Vinnie chuckles for a while if asked, and mentions "Dancing with his wife, an overdose of jet and a streak of luck".
Failing shopkeeping, running a betting service and a life of crime, Vinnie wants to build his own bar or inn near the town. He is willing to follow orders for a couple of seasons, to prove he's worthy of staying.
His profession / skills are not that important; masonry and or mining would be cool, since they would allow him to build his precious inn. Or perhaps a brewer.
"Uh, hey... This hovel is ugly. I'm moving in, let's get some business rolling."
P.S. First post! Yay!
Yeah, I want a guy.
He's a farmer or something. If you have no farmers make him a hunter.
Just call him sparks, uhhhh S-4 P-4 E-4 C-6 I-6 L-7
I'm really not going to write out a story no one cares about.
