Title: You are sentenced to..
Post by: Sithlordz on September 29, 2008, 06:43:03 am
Yeah.  Post your most insane criminal sentences here.  I got a six man squad, one gang member and 5 converted CCS scumbags, all with army body armour, M4 carbines and Elite Liberal status.  It's pretty epic, I decided to turn the leader in to see what his sentence was, just for shits and giggles.

The judge reads the charges: The defendant, Kweisi Patterson (Zeus), is charged with 4 counts of terrorism, 25 counts of kidnapping, escaping prison, 5 counts of aiding a prison escape, racketeering, 454(!) counts of felony assault, 472 (!!) counts of murder, 2 counts of arson, 3 counts of misdemeanor assault, 14 counts of carrying an illegal weapon, 668(!) counts of firing an illegal weapon, 8 counts of credit card fraud, 6 counts of theft, 87 counts of breaking and entering, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace.  2 former LCS members will testify against Zeus.

Woah.

Now, I'd love to say that Zeus got off due to his immense stats, but he didn't.  I used the 5000 dollar lawyer, and got..

24226 consecutive life terms in prison.  That's quite a lot.  Anyways, post yours.  ;D

My worst one recently was just a death sentance but it getting it was a bit of a shock.

Random guy is charge with 50 counts of hacking, 100 counts of credit card fraud, and other random things pretty much all hacking related but lots of them since everyone I recruit sits there hacking for juice and money.

Use the ace liberal lawyer.

Jury is stacked in my favor.

Prosecution doesn't do well.

Defenses arguements were really slick.

Jury returns a verdict

GUILTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One time I had a hundred plus murders, hundreds of disturbing the peace, 10 terrorism, thousands of theft, few hundred of arson, a few dozen prison escape, dozens of kidnappings and to top it all of interfering w/ interstate commerce.

Damn, I really think they would have given me a slap on the wrist if they hadn't caught me interfering with interstate commerce.

Also, death for hacking, lol.  Where were you, Salem, Mass?

I played a game where I didn't do anything else but put the main guy prostituting. He worked for a year, then he was put to jail for two, prostitute a year, in prison few more, and so on and so forth. I got quite a lot of money and so I founded the Liberal Guardian solely on one man's efforts in the prostitution business.

He worked for 50 years, mostly in prison, until he faced the death penalty for just giving ladies (and probably guys too) some bang for their buck.

This sad story gives us one more reason to brutally murder every last Conservatist! (And their Guard Dogs and Mutants!)

I had a guy sentenced to death for 2 counts of vandalism! Take that graffiti!

You mean you can get arrested in this game? I thought the police dies if they try!

[/joke]

I never had anything fancy. But I did get a death sentence for apparently minor convictions. Kidnapping leading to death? Oh come on!

Kidnapping is a fairly serious crime.

Heh, I played one game where all I did was have the founder sit in his (mom's?) basement and hack all day, everyday. He kept getting arrested all the time but he normally only racked up a handful of offences each time. I used this to train him in law by making him defend himself.

Anyway, he eventually got 10 law and I was feeling cocky so I used my massive saving to got out and buy him some gear and waste some C's. Started running low on cash when I fully fortified one of the safehouses, then that day he got overwhelmed by the coppers. I made him give up to the chasers.

The trial:

He had about 170 hacking counts, about 20 of interfering with commerce, a heap (200?) of assault/murder.

Conservative jury

Prosecution did a PERFECT job (I.e. it said about my dude having no chance)

He defended himself.

The verdict: NOT GUILTY!

I laughed at how phail the system was.

I don't believe that's possible, muwahahaha. I've had people quite skilled in law (near 10) with pretty much the same rapsheet; only that I had a sleeper judge and a highly liberal jury. I have not once gotten off when it is written "x is guilty beyond a doubt" or whatever.

Kidnapping leading to death sounds to me like it could be premeditated murder of the first degree, which under current law is punishable by death in this country.  Pre-med 1 is pretty much the most serious crime beside treason or terrorism in the eyes of the law.

The version matters a lot in whether you can get off for insane rap sheets.  Few versions back there was an automatically guilty threshhold for criminal activity but IIRC, the current version gives you a steep penalty instead at that threshhold, nothing an elite liberal and a sleeper judge can't fix.

Technically treason isn't a charge that should be in the game. The US constitution defines treason as aiding the enemy, which the current treason charges are merely releasing classified data. Espionage would be the actual charge that would be levied against them.

For laughs, I just got my entire "Trouble" crew arrested (and by trouble I mean 4 squads going around murdering people and going for the top site actions - hacking the supercomputer, cracking safes, releasing prisoners and so on).

I'm going through the list now, letting every member defend themselves. A few have got off, two death sentences so far, top score besides that is 5039 consecutive life sentences, and I'm looking for my founder to be tried so I can list his crime tally.

Oooh, 11621 consecutive life terms! We have a new top score! Immediately followed by an even higher score of 11664! And then 14747 - this is for a core member of my main squad, a bodyguard for my founder who's got a Sword skill of over 10. Things are looking good.

Time for my founder.

The defendant, Carol Lipman, is charged with 2 counts of treason, 2 counts of terrorism, 2 counts of kidnapping, flag burning, 2 counts of escaping prison, 14 counts of aiding a prison escape, 312 counts of felony assault, 389 counts of murder, 7 counts of misdemeanor assault, 28 counts of theft, 642 counts of breaking and entering, 158 counts of vandalism, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace.

I defend myself.

The trial proceeds. Jury selection is first.

Four of the Jurors are closet Socialists.

There is no question of The Bringer Of Light's guilt.

The jury is completely impassive as The Bringer Of Light argues the defense.

The jury leaves to consider the case.

The jury has returned from deliberations.

GUILTY! (Bastards.)

Carol Lipman, you are sentenced to DEATH!

And I immediately lose every single liberal outside jail. Even the ones found Not Guilty are willing to stick around to free my Founder, even though some of them are 1000 juice Elite Liberals.

And now I've been shot by a firing squad. Bastards. I go through a whole load of month-end screens showing me losing money and letting me publish the huge stack of Secret Corporate Files I kept in the Liberal Guardian building, and then it just stops responding. Grrrr. I don't even find out how well I managed to affect the Liberal Agenda in the long run.

Yeah, I've found that if my leader gets captured, every other liberal goes into hiding.  Once he gets executed, they never have the conviction to lead.  Do they need a leadership skill or is it just juice that determines if they can take over?

Note they also need to be reporting directly to the founder (second level of the organization) at the time of the founder's death. Arrest will just cause 'temporary' lost contact. Thus, currently, long prison terms can be much more devastating to the LCS than martyrdom for your founder. Note also that when people are losing contact, if someone in the chain of command permanently leaves the LCS when they lose contact (rather than going into hiding until their contact is available again), then everyone under them is lost as well -- thus, it's not good to have valuable, high juice liberals reporting to nobodies that are likely to abandon the LCS if they lose contact, since the subordinate's juice may not ever be an issue.
Title: Re: You are sentenced to..

Huh.  They all have 1000 juice and are all in the same squad as my leader so I'd assume they had pretty close ties with him.  Maybe since they all go into hiding for whatever reason after my leader gets arrested.

The charge: Resisting arrest.

Defended himself.

The Verdict: GUILTY!!!!

It is probably a form of class warfare

Living in the fancy appartments probably should help you in the law department despite making no practical sense it is unfortunately true.

Just look at the times people tried to make being homeless illegal (or effectively being homeless means you go to jail)

Well, a lot of effort in big affairs like this is put towards making sure the ones you have in custody don't become martyrs, which would just fill your enemies with conviction. It's a smart political move.

So I just accidentally pushed g instead of f when the police sieged my main fortress which was going great. 86 people in jail having survived about 50 + sieges and have been hacking for years. A couple newer people ratted me out but still there are still about 80 people about to stand trial. I'll report any good sentences here.

Edit: About halfway through and the judge is starting to get mad. Person with 711 murders only got 1 life sentence while most of the people now with only 100 felony assualt charges are getting death.

Edit2: A former judge defended himself against 100 murders just got 29857 life sentences even with a secret hand sign from the jury.

I thought sweatshop workers got deported before trial, due to being illegal citizens and all.  Perhaps not all sweatshop workers are illegal citizens now.

Getting busted out means you'll have lotsa heat on you, which might attract a police siege.  Life's easier when you don't have any outstanding warrents.

Speaking of heat and jail-breaks; would one not be able to find ways of "lowering heat" at a black market? Fake IDs, people who know people, removal of fingerprints - for a price of course - would be neat. It's kind of annoying that you can NEVER break anyone out of jail without having them bring hell to your safehouses.
Title: Re: You are sentenced to..

Loitering is a failsafe charge that you get if you are arrested with no charges. For instance, if you are hanging out at the police station and without doing anything wrong get arrested, you are charged with loitering. If you want to get it order a sleeper at the courthouse to return to the LCS. He'll probably stay at the courthouse and get charged with loitering.

Most recently, I turned my founder in.  He had about 80 counts of murder, 90 assaults.  Defended myself, guess what happened?

He got off.  And only got one law skill point for it :(

Don't defend yourself unless your rap sheet is horrifying.  Instead, get a sleeper lawyer with 10+ INT & CHA immediately and use him for pretty much everything.  Once his juice and skill are maxed out, he becomes a discount version of the ace attorney.  Recommended codename:  Phoenix Wright.

I would do that, but I'm a paranoid wanker.  Those sleepers could turn at any moment, so my founder should probably have all the law skill; then he can defend himself no matter what.  The same applies with combat skills.  Any recruits I get seem to get murdered by the 500 SWAT officers that appear at the police station as well, good job tactics is like an adamantium shell.  You rarely get hit.

Sleepers can only be captured, they can't confess. And they can only get captured if they do something illegal, like stealing files. Defending criminals and Promoting Liberalism doesn't count as 'illegal'.

Sorry for the necro but this thread need to be reactivated so that we share our stories of crazy sentencing:

I sent a squad composed by 2 Hippies, 1 Gang Member and 1 Prostitute to raid the Garnment Factory:they did smash some machines and stole some Cloths.
After leaving, the cops tracked them and, after some gunfires and the loss of a squad member, my squad surrendered.

At the trial with a sleeper judge and a pro bono lawyer :
-Joey Shew (Gang Member), for vandalism, murder (he got this charge before entering the LCS), felonious assault and unlawful entry: 12 years;
-Jackie Murray (Prostutute), for vandalism, felonious assault and unlawful entry: 5 months;
-Iris Stelling (Hippie), for vandalism, felonious assault and unlawful entry: death (Her lawyer said Iris was guilty; maybe I accidentaly choose the Public Defender)

Death penalty was at C+: I like this game.

That'd be cool, maybe if you burn a flag it'd make a few special mobs pop up while you're raided, like "Angry [Whoever is raiding you]" and they're fueled by rage to be stronger than the others.
Title: Re: You are sentenced to..

There is a bonus to flag burning if you do it when your hideout is being raided. So your strategy of burning a flag when you get raided is very good. As for what the bonus is, well, it has a positive effect on public opinion. Helps the Liberal cause. At least on the Flag Burning issue. Not sure if it makes the LCS better known or more popular though.

Anyway the real thing that's great to do during a raid is get a reporter to interview one of your LCS operatives, hopefully someone with lots of Intelligence, Charisma, Persuasion, that sort of thing. That gives you LOADS of benefits to public opinion. But it's random and rather unlikely. The best way to increase the odds of having a reporter show up for an interview is have a raid go on for a very long time, many days. This means having lots of days of food stored up ahead of time, of course. Err, I mean, your hideout is under siege, not a raid. Well, same thing, I guess.

Issue: the only way to get Sieged is by the Government: SWAT/Nat'l Guard/SEAL Team 6.

Major problem there is that opening fire on them in Escape/Engage *does* count as armed assault/murder.  As such, it's pretty harsh on your rap sheet, should anyone involved go to trial.

People like Corporations, the CIA, or the CCS just storm you immediately.  :-/

AFAIK, the CIA is affiliated to the government.

Still, they are acting in a top-secret crackdown on a group who may (may, I know some players don't) have been only involved in non-violent activities since day 1, without any legal legitimacy, so they'd rather sweep the whole affair under the rug rather than go to the police with reports of their botched raids and have it blow in their faces.

Corporate mercs... Maybe some give a crap about them, but they shot 1st and are not police, so they are fair game to be eliminated as self-defense.

CCS... Same thing.

Angry mobs: add them being terminally stupid to the list. They aren't even proficient with their weapons, nor even armored. I know you can get stormed with angry mobs from a code source dive, only I don't remember how. Never had this happen to me.

Theoretically the Mobs come from pissing off the Media too often.  You're right about the CIA: no charges, because in order to prosecute, they'd have had to be there in the first place.

Firemen are the only raid that finds you without having Heat on the safehouse...and, despite their government-sponsored nature, they don't charge you for shooting them inside the safehouse either.  (Let's chalk that up to the government not wanting to give Harmful Speech any more of a platform?)

It's just personal conjecture, but I see the Firemen as a sort of extra-governmental (un)holy order.  They don't burn to protect the government, but a perverted virtue of decency.  I suppose they're supposed to be caricatures of the people who preach about violence in video games and witchcraft in books, but instead I see this guy:

http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Cremator

Dispassionate, faceless, simply purging the offensive speech.  Don't they let the LCS leave in peace before burning the safe house?  I could be misremembering that.

Last I knew, surrendering to the Firemen resulted in their arresting anyone Wanted, confiscating anything that could justify a Special Edition, and burning your printing press.

Even in F451 they were more interested in destroying the books than in the people.

(Though they preferred to just kerosene the whole thing and light a match, too.)

That is how I remember it.  It makes more sense if you've read the book F451 instead of saw the movie.  The book was much better.

Of course, the movie was action sci-fi whereas the movie was romance sci-fi.  So the book had more content relevant for this game.

Nah, I read the book, never actually saw the movie to be honest. Besides Montag, I do remember him seeing people willing to die for books which influenced him to eventually harbor books. Was fairly sure there was parts where there was murder (Not counting him killing Beatty). Feel free to correct me on this.

The movie was terrible, they replaced a robotic dog with six eyes and anesthetic needle jaws with a fireman pole.

Also, romance sci-fi? I know there are multiple contexts for the word romance but that really paints an inaccurate picture in my mind.

Romance? Well, you could almost guess there was one blossoming, until she "dies" (disappears). In my opinion I wouldn't classify F451 as "romantic sci-fi".

Imagine, for a moment, a crazed femme fatale, dressed in SEAL stealth gear, missing her right arm, and toting a Deagle.

Now imagine that Waffles here has single-handedly murdered over six hundred Conservative automatons, most of them police, SWAT, or army. She's also single-handedly robbed banks, cracked supercomputers, pressed the Big Red Button, and broken out prisoners. As everything is swinging toward liberalism, (except for free speech, which was C+) I decide to let her defend herself in the courtroom, just to get the charges out of the way.

Nearly a thousand charges of murder.
Twenty-some treason.
Thirty terrorism charges.
Two hundred kidnapping charges.
SIX. THOUSAND. HARMFUL. SPEECH.
Other assorted charges too menial to count.

Defended herself.
Hangin' Judge for a judge.
Badly stacked against her jury.
Final conviction?
GUILTY!
Waffles, you are sentenced to DEATH!

Very next day, a squad of five dogs, in SEAL stealth gear and wielding axes, breaks her out of prison.
