Title: TC's Endwar
Post by: Nilocy on October 17, 2008, 12:35:11 pm
Anyone else played the demo out on XBL? Its acctually very very good. The idea of playing an RTS at the "Speed of thought" Is quite well done overall. Super fast gameplay.

That looks pretty awesome but I don't have XBox live, and I can't imagine RTSing on a console.

RTS could only work on the Wii in my oppinion.

You'd both be wrong. It works amazingly well. It basically replaces the mouse with your voice and the keyboard... with your miiind. Its very well done, very straightforward and altogether very fun :D

Wait, they got voice control working up to a point where it can be used in rts games without gimping the speed immensely? And mindcontrol accurate enough to replace a keyboard? Why is the rest of the internet so extremely silent about this then?

And i would realy appreciate if they would just drop the "Tom Clancy"  from every single "near future" title. None of their recent games have anything to do with the guy's books. They also get major asshole points for releasing a novel based on a "bestseller" game that isn't out yet and it's not written by Tom Clancy either despite what the cover says.

A quick wikipedia reveals that the game is effectively running on the wii effect.
New control scheme = Good.
New control scheme attached onto something mediocre = HOW DARE YOU CRITISIZE OUR GREATNESS FOOLISH MORTAL.

Any pics of the headset? Is it anything like Emotiv's Epoc?

Seriously, this is a neat thought. Starcraft, but not only for the fast clicking koreans now  ;)

Well, its not based on any books, its actually completely fair in the legal stand point since Ubisoft acctually bought the Tom Clancy franchise. It has many many many aspects from other TC related games, such as the Ghost Recons being the main assault troops for the Americans... and quite a few other references.

They were given the rights to make a game based on one of his books, some 10 years ago. Because of a loophole in the law they still have rights to the guy's name and abuse it to this day. Infact, they could sue him for using their trademark now. Completely fair in legal standpoint =/= good. For example, i could register "Nilocy" as a trademark for my personal brand of dinner plates, due to be released in 2012 and sue you for using the same name.

Sadly, I already copyrighted it (Runs off to copy right it) But serious, Ubisoft did get the full rights a few months, maybe a year ago, to TC's complete brand, including the books, film spin offs etc.

But anyhoo, derailment warning!

This game is very good, shame I don't have the money to spare to buy it right now. Did I also mention that online is a persisitant territorial battle between the 3 nations? No. Then go have an orgasm or something and come back saying you now know.

Of course, that would be easy.

"Braawk, build workers"
"Build Spawning Pool"
"B-cka build zerglings"
"Polly wanna rush"

The only challenge would be converting "^_______________^ kekeke" into speech.

I remain skeptical about a game dumbed down enough to be played by a parrot.

what?
This must be cool
Hell, any modern-era RTS which let's you FIGHT USA are the best.

Anyway, I have follow this game, and I, IWM, the great (not), approve of this game!

I was planning to actually hook my PS3 to the internet for this one game. I'll probably get around to it eventually. RSR is still my favorite book (although it has lost both covers by now, and is falling apart, sitting on this desk right now, open to page 687).
I wonder how balancing is going to work, else it would probably go like this:

Urist: Infantry platoons Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Gulf, and Indigo attack!

Strife: Tank Echo, move foward and deploy machine guns.

Infantry platoon has been killed!
x6

Tanks win wars.

A parrot once beat me at Civ IV.

I don't know, after doing the voice trainer I found it picked up almost all my commands.  I place the mic about 2cm in front of my mouth and about 2cm below my upper lip.  Moving it slightly closer should help your second problem as you can lower your voice by a lot and still be picked up.

My biggest problem with the demo is that it's hard to remember what unit is where on the map.  (Unless there's a button I missed) There should be a button to show all the squad numbers on the mini-map so I know who to jump to.

and the rainbows (Rainbow Six) to the EU, and of course continuing the Russian technology from TC's novels

*Sorry for the thread necromancy, I didn't want to make my own if one was already here*

I am a massive RTS junkie and this just looks brilliant. There is something about saying "calling all infantry, secure foxtrot" that tickles my fancy. I just wish I could play it.

And I am going to ignore the necro warning and bring this topic back.

I just bought endwar with a headset at Bestbuy for $55 (I was buying a birthday present). The game works pretty well, from my first experiences.

I've tried both the demo on the 360 and the PC version. I've had next to no luck getting the stupid commands to work. On the 360, I might be able to get it to work about half the time if I yelled. I do admit, that could be due to the crappy microsoft headset I'm using. On the PC I NEVER managed to get a command to work outside of the voice trainer. And I even tried two different headsets, both of which I regularly use to talk to people on TF2 and L4D with no problems.

Some say it works great, but I never had any luck.
