Legal.  Especially if you're using wooden ballista arrows against invading elfs.

LegoLord, when your turn comes around I'm giving you 3 days to reply to thread or I'll assume you're "busy" like you said.

Where are my 10 numbers guys?  I need it for the "totally random starting location"

sign me up if theirs no experience prerequisite.

this would be my first Succession game, but i've already started my own forts with challenge in mind, and i suppose this'll test my mettle thus far.

i just need some directions on how acquiring and using the save file works and how to pass it on when i'm done.

i wish i got here sooner, my numbers probably woulda put us in the frickin ocean or on a glacier.

i'd like a dwarf named after me, that'd be just dandy.

i wish everyone the best of luck, and i hope you guys are interesting writers.

1st of Granite 235.
Hello, my name is Mad Oslanraluk and this is my diary.  You may be wondering why I tied up 6 dwarfs and took them on a wagon ride out into the plains with out any supplies.  Or why my name is "Mad" Oslanraluk.  The simple answer is that I'm a sadist.  The long answer is that I don't like them because they're also sadists.  Others may call us unethical but atleast I'm doing everyone a favor by being sadistical against the other unethical Dwarfs.

Did I say no supplies, we still have the wagon pullers for meat and the wagon to make our trade depot.  What will we have to trade when they actually care enough to come looking for us?  Plants and raw fish!  Lots of it!  (and maybe some spare clothing if someone were to inadvertently die during the next couple of months.)

Out of my 6 companions no one has a single useful skill, and I only know one others nickname "Chaoticjosh."  Whatever, I don't care what their names are.  So long as they catch fish and gather plants for me to survive until the fall caravan arrives.

4th of Granite.
I've begun hunting, (a task for manly people, everyone else fishes or gathers plants like girls.)  When I return with the kill everyone mocks me for only killing a half starved groundhog.  I told them to shutup or we're going for another wagon ride where there isn't any fishing to be had.  That shut them up.

17th of Granite.
One fellers gettin real good at cooking, she made a wild strawberry roast and is rendering fat from my kills.  The others are fishing so successfully the other guy can't keep up and the edible plants are stockpiling high.

23rd of Granite.
The butchers shop is cluttered with animal remains, I've designated a refuse stockpile but no one seems to want to touch the filthy remains.  Finally in a fit of anger I overturn the makeshift butchery block and topple all the bones onto the ground, yelling at them "now clean it up!"

6th of Slate.
Everyones been laughing at me for only catching 6 or so groundhogs over an entire month.  But today I saw a cougar.  We'll see who's laughing when I come with that trophy piece on my shoulders.

*Journal Continued from Point Of View of "Bull", the fishcleaner.*

7th of Slate.
Our plan worked, constantly mocking Oslanraluk and questioning his manhood when we knew the cougar was out there has caused him to challenge wildlife that shouldn't be challenged.  We've named the Cougar Vunomtharnas for killing the bastard who wagoned us out here.  Looting his body I found his blood encrusted diary.  Whoever is in charge will record our progress as the time goes by so that theres a record.

26th of Slate.
We sat around today and discussed the situation.  We agreed that trying to return home now is pointless and we don't know the direction back home.  We just need to keep foraging for food and wait for some passing traders to find us.  Then we jump them: Take their wagon, and get home.  I also overheard someone say how much they love having the animals around for company.

27th of Slate.
I've butchered the animals.  Later that day I heard her crying as she slept in the sand.

21st of Felsite.
Fikod the crybaby cook has started making skull totem out of her beloved horses, we've nicknamed her "baby."  For being a crybaby.

3rd of Hematite.
Theres a wolf pack on the hills to the East of us.  I sure aint going to be goaded into hunting like the last fool who was in charge.

17th of Hematite.
Apparently they've elected scum against me, saying he's in charge and label me a fish handler.  Fine, I'll pull the strings from the background.  They'll sing my tune.

5th of Malachite.
Rhesus Macaque are trying to steal everything!  I've told everyone to wrestle them to death and reclaim our belongings.

Quote
A Rhesus Macaque has stolen a (giant cave spider silk cap)!
A Rhesus Macaque has stolen a (giant cave spider silk sock)!

*a diary page has been torn out in anger*

8th of Malachite.
People have been complaining about stupid things lately.  They need to get over it and get back to work.  The only other person in high spirits besides myself is Chaoticjosh, he struts about thinking being expedition leader of a pack of loonies is meaningful.

13th of Galena.
I've ordered baby to start making crafts from all the Rhesus Macaque bones so we can make up some of the losses from their theft.

27th of Galena.
For some inexplicable reason everyone is cheerful again.

1st of Limestone.
Fishery, kitchen and craftdwarf shop are being dismantled for building material.  In their place the trade depo is being built.

12th of Limestone.
A trade caravan has arrived.  I've been plotting for this day for months.  I have no intention of letting anyone leave.  I've become accustomed here.  Taking the role of the broker of the group and book keeper I get ready at the trade depo before the traders even arrive.

18th of Limestone.
I stepped up onto the trade depo - the trade depo  covered in blood and fish guts and withered plants and rotting logs - I stood proud upon that construction and addressed my 5 companions.  "We are overjoyed to have our brothers from the mountain home here to trade with us."  I paused for the cheering and whistling, their eyes glowing, ready to go home.  "We have quite a few things of trade, we've produced many goods while stranded in this wilderness and we are overjoyed to share them over a banquet."  From the corner of my eye I saw 'baby' hugging a comrade waiting for me to go on.  "However, there is a grave matter I must share."  The liaisons eyes took on a suspicious look, he knew we should have 7 dwarfs in our company.  "Go on" he said simply, and go on I did.  "As you know Oslanraluk was our original expedition leader, unfortunately he was murdered by someone in the group.  We found his body mangled and broken some distance fr-"  An outraged member of the party storms forward "It was a cougar!  The claw marks attest to that!"  I raise my hand in patience as everyone in the party starts turning against me.  "As the remains are since gone theres no proof, I know how much you all want to go home.  But we can't risk having a murderer return to our mountainhome when we don't know who it is!"  The liason clears his throat.  "Do you have any idea who it could of been?"  The caravan guards eyes wait, their hands mindlessly linger closer to their weapons.  My gaze passes over Chaoticjosh's.  For a moment I wonder if I should put the blame on him, remove him now for daring take my spot as expedition leader.  But a nagging voice at the back of my mind stops me as I open my mouth, the voice says "better he be stranded here and suffering then dead and done with it."  I shrug apologetically "I'm sorry, I have no idea."  I gesture to all the totems and extra clothing and roast meals.  "We're going to need some supplies if we're going to stay here, no reason the innocent people should starve out here."  The liaison nods, "too true, and thank you for your honesty." I smile.  "Of course."

19th of Limestone.
Unfortunate for us they didn't have any axes, however they did have a couple of picks to get us off the surface and safely underground.  I'll need to watch my back if I'm to claim my rightful position as expedition leader.

22nd of Limestone.
I've begun carrying a pick with me, and I sleep away from the others.  We've finalized the trade agreement.

23rd of Limestone.
We've deconstructed the trade depo now that the negotiation are over and have used the wood for extra beds.  Totaling our beds to 5.  5 beds for 6 dwarfs. . .

14th of Timber.
All food is being moved underground where it belongs.

10th of Moonstone.
With stone at hand we've constructed mechanisms, dug and found sapphire and have secured ourselves underground in proper dwarf fashion.

14th of Moonstone.
I don't get a bed, thats fine with me.  I don't trust them anyway.

20th of Moonstone.
A regular bucket isn't badass enough
(http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l286/Qloos/DF/MLM007.jpg)

21st of Moonstone.
My artistic talents must be very renown.  We already have our first thief group, one was impaled with a pick, the other two were beaten to death.

11th of Opal.
I find great joy in seeing this wild tangle of a land being built into a proper dwarf outpost.  However, my friends mistrust me and don't understand what it is I'm trying to accomplish, only with me as their trusted expedition leader will we make true progress.  However, I feel that I'm being undermined from more than one side.  Hopefully I can survive long enough to see my vision through.  I'm becoming increasingly worried that someone will pickpocket my diary, I'll hide it inside some half rotten roast that no one would even think of eating. . .

I swapped it out and made the craftsdwarf shop from the butchers shop.

As to your little problem, just order your dwarves to gather refuse from outside in refuse orders, they'll snatch up the stuff from your butchery super quick.

Working on my turn now.

Eee gad!  The first turn has already been finished!  If this keeps going the way it is, I think I should be able to make first post within three days of the start of my turn.  Hopefully.

@Dresdor:  If you finish the moat, please don't do anything too complex with the bridge.  I have plans for that.  Plans I always use when I start a fort, but still, good plans.

So we are trapped here.  After trying desperately to free ourselves by murdering that sadist, the rest of us are here to toil in this boiling land forever.  I'm just glad killing the fool wasn't my idea, I have no blood on my hands, and nobody has a right to be mad at me.

We've decided on making some improvements to our moat, as it is barely filling with water before the pools evaporate, and some other minor structural improvements.  Mainly, improvements to our brewing situation as we don't have anything to drink but swamp water.

There is a long space between entries.

Things have been tense lately and there's been a lot of arguing.  Things aren't getting done properly or on time.  We've been without drink for too long.  Instead of trading with the elves, one of the fools simply told them to leave their stuff or our marksdwarves would kill them all.  WE DON"T HAVE ANY MARKSDWARVES!  This place is a mad-house.

***

Madness turns to murder.  While expanding the moat, Bull seems to have fallen in with one of our two precious picks.  I tried to dig him out but could not find the other pick anywhere.  Surely this is deliberate...There's a murderer around...

***

Trying to complete the moat project, Chaotic was found, bloated and smelling like rotted flesh, in the brook.  Somewhere at the bottom of the stream is our other pick.  Someone wants us all dead.

***

I can't take the screaming anymore...they are all looking at me suspiciously and I them.  One of us killed three dwarves now.  Baby had the audacity to threaten a human caravan with full guard compliment with firey death and wrath, which sent the cowardly merchants fleeing.  Their mercenaries just shrugged and followed them, leaving us with all their stuff.  Maybe she killed the others...maybe we should take precautions.

***

I saw the other three whispering together.  They are plannign something.  Maybe all three are working together to murder the others.  Maybe they plan on telling the next caravan that they foudn and killed the murderer...I need to act.

***

I am free from them.  I can hear them scratching trying to get out, but they cannot!  I showed them the expanded bedroom I planned on giving them all.  As they looked at it, they did not see me sneak out, nor did they hear me bolt the door and barricade it.  Their screams for help will stop soon.

Now it's just me and my pets.  I even have a couple of those pesky rhesus maques tamed.  They are so tasty.  If only I could open the door before their corpses rotted...dwarf meat is tender...I'd hate for it to go to waste.

The words get sloppier and sloppier until they are illegible.

I followed the rules.  only the last three deaths were intentional, chaotic you died because your dwarf channelled around himself when I wasn't looking, and did a Wile E Coyote into the river.

For some reason the other pick was forbidden and I didn't realize that until well after Bull drowned, and by the time Chaotic did it was just bad luck.

Then I locked the loonies away.  I was going to have them spar with axes and no armor, but they didn't want to spar.

Also Chaotic take a chill pill, he explained you died genuinely.

Journal of LegoLord, Evil Genious

22nd Slate, Mid-Spring.
I have arrived at the location of my new hideout.  It seems that the all but one of the previous residents died.  Clearly, the last one is insane.  Keeps babbling about how he “didn’t do it,” whatever “it” is.  At any rate, he should make a good puppet leader.  This seems to be a good area, perfect for my experiments.

The layout here is insane.  Currently, we have a narrow stairwell that you could break your neck tripping on, the workshops are all in clusters away from any stockpiles, and there are cages everywhere.  Not to mention a strange pump contraption that serves no discernable purpose.

I have convinced that crazy old man, Dresdor, to designate a new workshop area to be dugout.

I have Dresdor has begun work on the improving the defenses.  Afterwards I shall request a personal workshop.

Where’s the rootbeer in this place?  All there is to drink is beer, wine, and rum, and a lot of it!  I hate that stuff.  Honestly, I don’t know anyone can stand it.  Nevertheless, since the people here like it, it will continue to be produced.  Happy dwarves are unsuspecting dwarves, I always say.

16th Felsite.
Tirist Fissureseal has become a legendary bonecarver!  Apparently she’s been working on some earring made out of turtle bone.  She’s called it “The Enchantment of Waters.”  It’s fairly unexciting thing worth about 3600.  Not particularly useful, but at least there’s someone around with some decent skills now.

18th Hematite
The human caravan arrived.  Unfortunately, one of the hammer men knocked a recently revealed kobald into the new moat.  They won’t go near the stupid thing, even though it’s stuck.  Ah, a marksman just shot it.  We should be able to trade soon.

9th Malachite
I had a jeweler purchase some cloth and leather from the merchants, as Dresdor was too busy with organizing the construction of my quarters.

14th Malachite
More migrants arrived.  Some of the peasants were drafted.  I don’t like having a military right under my nose, but perhaps with enough money I can convince them to keep away from my shop, should they become suspicious, or, better yet, work for me.

20th Malachite
Work has begun on expanding the dining hall.  In other words, we’ve starting digging out a dining hall.  In other news, my quarters are complete, with a rose gold spike on top.  Not the best conductor, but it will do.  Now if I can just get a table . . .

We have struck rock crystal!  And we have sand!  I think I may need a new window for my room.  If we only had magma, we could get a real nice glass industry here.  And I can always find a use for glass, particularly in vial form.

19th Galena
We have produced our first crystal glass item!  It is a window for the tower to my workshop.  Now, if the town’s people decide to attack me after making a monster, I’ll have some warning!

1st Limestone
Autumn has come, which means I shall have to prepare for the caravan’s arrival.  Their guards may recognize me from the mountain homes, and if I were discovered, my plans would be ruined.  Once they have come and gone, I shall focus on the stairwell problem.  Once I have got these dwarves dug in, I can begin working on my evil plan . . .

I've gotten as far as the beginning of Autumn.  I should be able to finish this within a few days.  Sorry there aren't any pictures, I'm still trying to figure that out.  The population made a huge jump after the migrant wave in spring.  By the end of summer, after a second wave, there were about thirty dwarves.  We ain't dead yet, that's for sure.

Thirty?  Well dang.

The pump is to drain the brook so I could put up floodgates to dam it.  But I ran out of time.

Journal of LegoLord, Evil Genius

2nd Limestone
A dyer named Rimtar Tattooswords has started acting very strangely lately.  He has run off to claim a craftdwarf’s shop, and he won’t let anyone in.  It’s not his job, I tell Dresdor, but he says he can’t do anything about it.  I think I may soon have a good test subject.

He’s grabbed a turtle shell and some bauxite and started working on something.  I hope this guy isn’t competition.  There were enough other evil geniuses back at the mountain homes.  This is my turf!

6th Limestone
Thank Armok, he just made a mask, valued at 3600.  But this could be a distraction . . . the competition may have hired him to do that . . . perhaps locking him in a room for a while will get him to talk . . .

9th Limestone
NOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!  The caravan is here!  I will have to hide underground for awhile.  I shall claim to be sick and tell Dresdor to tell me of events above ground.  Incidently, they were able to bring their wagons, so at least there will be plenty of goods to trade for.

12th Limestone
Looking out my new window is terrifying.  They brought so many gaurds . . . this may not have been the best choice for a hide out.  Dresdor seems to have delegated the task of trading to a random miner.

13th Limestone
The merchants were uncooperative, so I told the miner to deconstruct the depot immediately.  Hopefully some of their goods will get mixed in with the materials composing the depot.  Serves them right, of course, for forcing to stay in this shelter against my will!!!

Curses!  They’ve packed all their goods!  Oh well, I guess they will have to starve on the new moat.

12th Sandstone
The merchants have succumbed to madness.  Soon we will have all the goods we will need for the winter.  It is now safe for me to come out.

Progress on the new bedrooms and dining room goes well.  The workshops are set up in a way that will allow for easy future expansions.  All the bridges of the moat are complete, each linked up to its own lever.

26th Sandstone
I attempted to use a ballista to destroy the dwarven caravan.  However, due to improper placement and lack of attention, I ended up taking the right arm off of a miner.  Hopefully he’s left-handed.  I shall pin the blame on Dresdor and make another shot at the merchants.

23rd Timber
The Hamlet Liason has gone berserk!  He has attacked two recruits, knocking both unconscious and one winded.  A macaque joined into the fray, miraculously unharmed. For now.

Nevermind, it’s starting to look like that monkey will never walk again.  Oh well, now we have more meat.

The liason has just killed a dog and tossed one of the unconscious recruits, killing him as well.  Upon looking more closely at him (through a telescope, of course) that he is ultra-mighty, unbelievably agile, and superdwarvenly tough.  I think we’re in trouble.

Another recruit joined in, only to be instantaneously knocked unconscious.  Another one soon followed, and managed too last a few moments before the liason jumped away from his previous prey.  The madman’s wounds so far stand at a bruised lower body.

That last recruit is now unconscious.  I hope our hunter shows up soon . . . wait!  Here he is!  But he’s charged at the liaison bare-handed.  Crap.  Now he’s dead.

The liaison’s just killed a jeweler, a dog, and our last recruit.  Now he’s chasing Dresdor.  I think his rampage may be close to an end.  Dresdor may be mad, but he’s an accomplished miner and is legendary with a pen.  Never mind, Dresdor’s unconscious.  It must be an epidemic.

26th Timber
Saved at last!  After seeing its puppy killed, a mother dog killed the liaison with a lucky blow.  Now that Dresdor is gone, someone will soon need to be promoted to expedition leader, and with that, gain the responsibilities of being the manager, broker, and record keeper.  I hope it’s someone I can put under my influence.  Casualties from the massacre total at eight, not including animals.  Good thing Dresdor’s last act as leader was to have tombs made.

17th Moonstone
An armorer, IronValley (hah!) Cloistersacks, has become the new leader.  To get on his good side, I told him I would take up book keeping duties.  He seemed happy about that.  A woodcutter that stood in for Dresdor once also offered to take the position of broker.  All is well, aside from the fact that I am here.

11th Opal
I have made myself a tomb here, with a crystal glass coffin.  I fear I may not last long here, but this area is my last hope of success.  I must at least have a proper burial.

25th Opal
Mistem Relictrailed, the carpenter, has entered a fey mood!  Perhaps we will get something useful for once.  On a side note, I have begun an extension of my quarters that should allow me to weather a siege from the people.

10th Obsidian
Mistem Relictrailed has created Rulostar (Submergeburies), a birchen door!  On it is an image of that turtle bone earing in birch.  It is valued at 18000.  It’s perfect for my room!

1st Granite
It is now Spring I have spent a whole year here, and now it is time to hide this journal and start a new one.  The extension to my room giving me access to a personal siege workshop is not yet complete, and the artifact door has not yet been installed.  The moat is long finished, as well as the tombs, which now only requires smoothing.  I was recently injured by a tantrumming child.  I shall have a talk with his parents.  I like that kind of person as an underling.  His name is Urvad.  I now bury this journal under the ground that will soon be paved over for my room.

I really thought we were dead when the liaison went berserk.  I have no idea what that dog did to make Armok like it so much, but I'm glad it was there.  Again, sorry there aren't any pictures.  The population now stands at 23.  Oh, and sorry, but your dude died, dresdor.

Edit:  Wait, I've managed to salvage it, just wait a moment.

Download DF Map compressor http://shadowlord13.googlepages.com/dfmap-index.html (http://shadowlord13.googlepages.com/dfmap-index.html)
While in game: "Export Local Images" of the Z levels you want to show off.
Open a image using the DF Map Compressor and "compress images to fdf-map file."
Upload fdf map file to http://mkv25.net/dfma/index.php (http://mkv25.net/dfma/index.php)

For the save, download the file, extract it (if it's in a .zip file), and place the resulting folder into your "saves" folder of DF.  You can rename it if you want, so that you know which file it is.  The game should then show up in your "Continue Playing" menu.

I recommend you rename the folder to "region3" that way when its uploaded to the site it stays in the correct series, (a mistake I made with the first year map)

Current map: http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-3912-bakedfools (http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-3912-bakedfools)

Good story and. . . erm. . . weird layout for the fortress.

Or the weird two story structures near the moat.
Oh, that's my dude's personal quarters.  The ramp at the top is supposed to be a crude lightning rod.  Then there's a tunnel that would connect it to his personal siege workshop.  That workshop would, in the end, only be accessible from the evil genius' room, once all the walls and ceilings were finished.  Under the bedroom is his personal mechanics shop and training catapult (for boosting his siege operator skill).  There should be walls constructed around the ballista.  The lever in the corner of the room should be linked to a one tile wide bridge that leads to the inside of the structure.  LegoLord would be the only dwarf allowed to use it.  Finally, the artifact birch door was supposed to be used as the entrance.  Incidentally, I had to make "him" a "her", because the dwarf I had originally planned to be me was killed by the berserk liaison.  If someone could figure out how to get her to wear the artifact mask, that'd be awesome.

By the way, I've been playing this fort from where I left off, so I may have given an inaccurate description.
Oh, and can I have another turn at this, after dresdor?

You've got something awesome (or soon to be), that's what  :)

I've added some "points of interest" to the DFMA map of Bakedfools, mostly to explain what the deal is with the craziness that is LegoLord's quarters (but not entirely).

Goddamn it, not again!

Once again I'm in charge of a Dwarven hell-hole. At least there's no magma, dragons or bronze collosi yet... I can only hope that this position will be survivable.

I KNEW IT! Wrong again.... this place is madness.... Sure, they gave me a nice office to handle affairs from. However, this fort is a horrible horrible mess. No order, no military, no defenses at all. And more coffins than chairs...

This won't do! It just won't... I've seen too much horrible destruction because of horrible management. Now its time to get this place back on its feet!

22nd Granite
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!
I designated a large group of trees close to our perimeter to be cut down so that we could begin arming ourselves. However the greenskins beat us to it. I'll have to assign the masons to make more coffins.....

As we're begin

15th Slate
The Greenskins have been chased off. I told the former leader to send out our military to deal with the greenskins. However the only answer I got was something about a ballista....

I tried asking the masons where our barracks was, and they said they had no clue...

Seems like I've got to do this myself.... As we have tons a bolts and a couple of crossbows. I grabbed a steel crossbow and made pincushions out of three of the six greenies.

Victory is ours!

And my room is coming along just nicely.....

28th Slate

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA They've come... poor bastards... A Mason working on LegoLords odd construction spotted them. Now we can bolster our ranks!

2nd Felsite

Oh the horrors! More greenskins, and they are coming down on our new migrants.. Time to pick up the crossbow...

Victory! Once again we've beaten the greenies! This time we've reduced our casualties by 50%! Brilliant!

And just as we beat the goblins back, the forest is filled with the screams of  monkeys.... they come from the forest to loot us.... That won't happen on my watch.... time to bring out the crossbow again....

14th Of Hematite

Continuing the project of damming the river. However it appears as if the greenskins do not approve of our project... perhaps they live downstream... time to bring out the crossbow again....

16th of Hematite

I've give up my position as the hamlet manager to my dear Tirist, she is doing an excellent job counting dead goblins... She's also got the most beautiful be...

“Sir! You must see this!”

“Yes peasant? What is it?”

“The Humans are here!” said the new migrant, in a rather stressed tone. “And? Tell the traders to get ready for them, and bring up whatever we have of crafts...” “But sir, they're not here to trade. They brought whips and brawlers!, They've come to claim the goods of the previous Human caravan that apparently was looted.”

Apparently, I'll have to go get the crossbow again....

(This Siege was actually rather hilarious...  The Humans gathered up on the right side of the map and then they charged us before I could send our only marksdwarf at them. Then they charged over the bridges just as the lever was pulled, leaving them all in our dried out moat... good target practice for our marksdwarf... I've also increased our military to get the marksdwarf count at 20%)

23rd Limestone

Not mutch happening right now. Legolord is out of bed, and is yelling at me since he can't find his axe and chainmail. I told him that since he's the bookkeeper, he should know. Then he went to his room and fired his catapult... what an odd chap...

25th Limestone

It all makes sense now! The goblins and the Humans are in league with each other. They've now started ambushing together!

I'm sleeping with my crossbow now....

7th Sandstone

During summer I set up a trapping earea east of our fortress, we have now successfully captured our first animal! I was hoping for a cougar, however a groundhog will have to do for now....

3rd Timber

More greenskins! This time we've caught another one of sneaky thieves in one of our cage traps... Let us pray that he is alone...

9th of Timber

Ambush! We can see them on the horizon! Time to load up the crossbow again....

My eyes have once again deceived me... They aren't greenskins, they're dwarves... perhaps I should clear my face of all this vomit.. or perhaps not... oh well.. atleast now we have the workforce to create some real shelter!

(We really need walls, and something to actually hide behind... this ditch/moat system is far too crude, and leaves us all open if the goblins bring archers.)

28th Moonstone
This is the final entry of this log. Written by me Tirist Rerrasurvad

War is being waged outside. My lover has fallen to the goblin hordes. Crossbow in hand...
The new military is doing what they can... is it enough? I do not know. Time will show...

If not... I know what lever to pull..... they won't get us alive....

Nice story so far.  Loving it.

Edit:  Why is there a flooding device rigged to flood the whole fortress?  Also, you might want to take a look at the stranded military dwarfs with broken limb(s) who are stranded from being either in the moat or unable to walk.

I think those guys are leftover from when I trapped the Dwarven caravan.  I think that the flooding device of which you speak might be dresdor's attempt to dam the brook.  Is it near the edge of the map?

No, theres a vertical pipe channeled parallel to and leading into the fortress, the bottom blocked off by floodgates.  The water pressure will fill from the bottom with that rig if those floodgates are opened.

We have a self-destruct switch?  Awesome, just what every evil genius' lair needs.  What is that room with the table and chairs and what looked like a coffin across the hall from the mausoleum?  It seems to be where the suicide water comes from, but other than that, I've got nothing.

Edit:  Whoops, that's a lever in that room, not a table.

Here's my turn

Diary of Linthar

4th of Opal, 238: I have been chosen leader of Bakedfools, a great honor that puts me with the likes of Mad Oslanraluk who is dead. Ok that doesn’t sound so great, so how about
Bull who is also dead. Ok so the fort had a rough start. There’s still Dresdor and Ironvalley, who are both dead. In fact the only former leader alive is the self proclaimed evil genius Legolord. Clearly there is an conspiracy at work here.
Ok don’t panic here, just take a good look at the fort. At least I have this nice bastion of dwarven design to rule over. …. Who the hell designed this place. There’s a swordsdwarf trapped in the moat, we have seven mason workshops, a ballista pointing at nothing, a bizarre collection of waterwheels and pipes over the river and a flooding basement. This is just great. I’m already marked for death, with a madhouse to rule over.
I need to think clearly here. Ok if I keep everyone occupied they can’t kill me. Lets see, stop all partying, clear-cut every tree, build a giant tower, that should keep people occupied. Now I have to see about the flood

9th of Opal: It turns out there are two floodgates to prevent the fort from flooding ominously attached to a single lever, and not just any lever my masterpiece The Calm of Wilting. There is no conceivable reason to have such a trap down here. It is another conspiracy.

20th of Opal: A gem cutter has been acting suspiciously secretively of late and has locked himself in a workshop. I need to keep an eye on him.

25th  of Opal: The gem cutter was just making a flask. Meanwhile I’m trying to figure out what caused a wrestler to randomly take a swim in the moat jumped in water?

18th of Obsidian: The moat is not filling properly because there is to much room for the water to spread out. I’ve walled off a couple of the dry spots to ensure the rest of the moat fills.

25th Obsidian: I’ve unveiled my new master plan to keep myself alive. The new jail. The cells are precariously balanced over open air, and I’ve picked a trustworthy and strong member of the military Calren for the position of sheriff. Now no dwarf would dare kill me knowing the punishment.

14th of Granite: The elves have arrived to trade, upon which time I discovered that despite this being a dwarven fortress more then four years old in age, no one ever bothered to make a single stone craft. I assembled a few odds and ends and was able to buy a tame wolf, but this situation can not stand. I will find the dwarf in charge of the conspiracy to prevent trade and have him punished.

19th: of Granite: The Swordsdwarf who I originally rescued from the moat is back in the moat. This is the second inexplicable case of dwarfs swimming in the moat. Something is fishy here.

8th of Slate: The conspiracy to undermine Bakedfools continues with a unknown Dwarf arranging for a valuable steel shield to be stolen by a monkey.

9th of Felsite: Migrants have come, a whole 20 of them. I do not know if I can trust them.

10th of Hematite: What a day it’s been. I was awaked to shouts that the humans had come, and not as a caravan. Instead they came to siege. I ordered the military to defend the only entrance to Bakedfools. But when the first squad of humans advanced, I learned that some unknown conspirator had walled off a section of the moat, and the humans could walk over that wall, ruining my entire plan.
Luckily for me the humans didn’t think their own plans through. Their horses were not meant for war and went running despite the protests of their riders at the slightest sign of battle. After a few chaotic hours all the humans had ever died or fled, but at the cost of three of the military, and two more that were wounded.
Of course since a siege is not chaos enough, during this time we also had to deal with two kobold thieves, and one of our miners entered a fey mood.

13th  of Malachite The moat continues to be a gathering ground for conspiracy, the latest sightings being of a single dwarf and two cows. The miner has finished his work, and created a floodgate.

16th  of Galena: Its worse then I thought. The cows are using the moat as a Shortcut, and the monkeys have joined in as well.

26th of Galena: I have done it. For the past 6 months I have been overseeing a secret project, a shelter where I can hide, and no others can enter. And it is now complete. I have enough food and drink to last years, and the only entrance is blocked by a raised bridge which only I control, and  artifact door I found lying around. No miners can reach me either. The entire shelter is surrounded by a going down to the depths of the earth. By the time they realize what I have done it will be completely full. And even if they bypass my defenses I have a final solution. I moved the doomsday lever that would flood the fort into my shelter. If anyone tries to reach my I will flood all of Bakedfools. Against such a threat no one will dare act. I am safe.

Journal of Calren, Captain of The guards

26th of Galena: Since our leader has gone and cut himself off from the world, I have assumed control of Bakedfools. After our I am in charge of enforcing the laws here, I’m a natural fit to lead.

10th of Limestone: The dwarven caravan has arrived. I was looking through the stockpiles for goods to trade when I found a  DRAGON BONE CROWN . Bakedfools has never been visited by a dragon. Where did we get a dragon bone crown?

21st of Limestone: The moat has become a popular shortcut among the population. I have reminded everyone of subsection IV of Article IX of the dwarven transportation code, that clears states that this practice is illegal, but no is listening.

20th of Sandstone: The moat around our late leaders shelter, has had an interesting effect. The vortex caused by the water falling to the lower levels has carried 6 monkeys and a cat to their deaths.

24th of Sandstone: I have taken a final solution on the moat problem. I have blocked all staircases leading out of the moat. I am merciful so I left the one ramp out untouched.

26th of Sandstone: One of  the blacksmiths has entered a strange mood and seized a forge. I need to go tell him interfering in the production process of a fortress is highly illegal activity.

8th of timber: A whole seven migrants bothered to make the journey to Bakedfools.

10th of Timber: The blacksmith finally completed his work, a very excessively decorated  golden animal trap
(http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr167/Linthar/animaltrap.png)

15th of Timber. There are three dwarfs and two caravan guards trapped in the moat who refused to use the ramps. I’m feeling merciful though. If they insist on using stairs to escape I’ll let them if they prove their worth. I’ll have a staircase dug at the end of a submerged passage. If they are strong enough to swim that length they can live. If not they can die for breaking the law.

15th of Opal: All three native dwarves have starved to death in the moat. The caravan guards are still alive though.

1st of Granite: My time as leader is up as proscribed by Dwarven Law. I’m off to pick some poor fool to lead for the next year.

The legacies of my turn:

1) the useless ballista.
2) the swordsdwarf in the moat
3) my strange quarters
4) causing future human sieges

My moat!  You've ruined it!  WHY DID YOU STEAL MY DOOR THAT WAS MEANT FOR ME!  (I planned to use the artifact door but ran out of time).  There's only room for one evil maniac in this here fort'  Although I have to say, seeing what remains of what I did is cool (even if it is the farms and workshops).  Especially since I did a huge overhaul of the design . . .

By the way, how is ol' LegoLord, Evil Genius?  Any where close to a legendary siege operator?
And nice job on that siege and the jails.  Jails.  That gives me an idea.

The whole fort was a complete mess.... who the hell actually dug out the first tile?

If it wasn't for the damned boblins I would've moved the entire fort downstream....

Also:

The pumps down the stream were supposed to dam the brook, making the moat/etc fill faster and reduce lagg.

Hey Linthar, i was just hum-hoing along when i decided to take a close look at your 'shelter', and i must say, its the most miserable piece of crap i've ever seen.

i'm not sure if you actually INTENDED for your dwarf to actually be able to live in their, but although he has exactly 50% of the whole fort's alcohol supply (a whole fucking NINE units), he atleast has a water supply, his food supply however, woulda killed him. he has some food barrels, but those woulda ran out eventually. I saw he has a personal farm and the farming labor was turned on for him. this had one fatal flaw however, absolutely NO crops were designated to be planted on that farm! i turned on plump helmets for it outta the goodness of my frickin' heart, i hope your happy.

also, he had several bins lined up to be built for some reason. lord knows what you planned to be stored in them.

Yeah it did not turn out quite as planned. The field was originally set to allow farming, but I disabled it after 50,000  planting canceled no seeds messages to ensure that I didn't drive futures leaders mad and decided that my dwarf was just to crazy to actually have a workable survival plan.

Oh and the Bins. I actually don't have the slighest clue of what I was thinking when I lined them up to be built. Guess the insanity of the fort was getting to me.

alright, this is my first couple days here at Bakedfools, i sure as hell know the punishment now for staining the King's carpet with rum, and its being forcefully carried to this godforsaken place in order to replace its horrible leader who has apparently gone insane. I can see why.

first impression of Bakedfools? crap, utter complete crap. the previous rulers should be ashamed of themselves for doing as badly as they did. Hell, i feel bad for being their leader now, even though i didn't have anything to do with it. I lived around community leaders and the working class my whole life, so i know something about being a leader, the previous rulers musta not known anything at all. No one is specialized AT ALL, everyone is juggling five or six jobs at once, and although we do have some legendaries, they're all preoccupied with dumbass mundane tasks that they aren't suited for instead of strutting they're stuff in their specialty. For example, we have a perfectly good Legendary Bonecarver, Tirist I think his name was, and i found him making rotten-ass stone crafts instead of converting the apparently full bone pile into useful objects. i'm still sifting through the populace and assigning the useful dwarves to useful things and the non-useful to hauling jobs. I find a disturbing number of dwarves are performing masonry and stone detailing jobs, why? I guess i walked in on a giant frickin' tower thats being built for some reason.

first off

stockpiles are abysmal when i arrive, all the alcohol is almost gone, and i've asked around, and they're apparently isn't a professional brewer ANYWHERE! I can't fucking believe this, I have a random milker appointed to the invaluable position of full-time brewer ASAP. We have farms, but they're a mishmash of small plots strewn all over, all of them growing inferior crops when i can plainly SEE that we have whip vine seeds, which are just plain better at producing good alcohol. Boy oh boy, i'd murder an elf and his cousin for some sun berry seeds, hell, i'd murder an elf and his cousin anyway.

what do we have here?
this, i suppose, is the stockpile room, just below the surface. I wish i could meet the person that designed these rooms, so i could punch him as hard as i can for making everything so strewn about and inefficient and for putting walls everywhere. You can't see it in this picture, but further below the bottom of the picture, the only thing that is stopping a flood of water from entering the fortress is a fucking tree.

Now, this is a joke.
This must be a joke, theirs a plethora of workshops here, none of them useful. The asshole that made this room had an arbitrary wall fetish, he must have, i can't find any other reason why he'd arbitrarily cordon all the workshops off from eachother. did he think INDUSTRY would happen here, because its NOT! this a disgrace to hardworking dwarves everywhere, i'm doing something about all these walls, and i'm putting these dormant workshops to good use!

Some battles must have transpired, because lookie at what i found!
they're some Gobbo thieves and human hostiles with they're horses locked away in these cages. I'm not fucking sure what happened here, the dwarves have always been friends with the humans, but if i know anything about POW's, its that we don't let them fucking stew in their cages, building there concentration and biding their time, i say we make a fucking example of them for even THINKING to attack us.

I have a artificial island to be dug,
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y300/slapstar/BakedfoolsSacrifice.jpg)
with the plans to maroon them on it, and then have a newly appointed marksdwarf take potshots at them as a proper hazing into the military.

Well, crap...
FIVE crossbowgoblins appear across the brook and instantly shoot a random planter dead. From the looks of it, we have some Champions around here, so lets test their mettle shall we? i'll get back to you in awhile journal, theres a battle to be fought!

"Don't touch those workshop walls!"

They are essential for protecting against strange mood dwarves that go berserk!  I just didn't get the chance to install walls . . .
They normally work very well in my other forts, especially with stockpiles under them.

Post by: JoshuaFH on November 21, 2008, 11:32:48 pm
what fantasy land do you live in legolord? cause in my world, dwarves don't go berserk fast enough to warrant such extreme measures. in fact, the moment i realize i can't meet a moody dwarf's demands, i'll build a wall around them. so they can be encased in their insanity. its rather easy you see.

EDIT: I also noticed that one of the walled off workshops is a KILN, i don't recall a moody dwarfy ever needing one of those.

ChaoticJosh the 2nd's Journal entries: all of spring

We are victorious in battle! The green menace has been squealched, and not too soon, as the Elves arrived and were headed straight for the battleground.

a brief recap of the battle
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y300/slapstar/2bakedfools1.jpg)
the five crossbowgoblins died at the hands of Urist the champion, Tirist the champion, and somebody else the swordsdwarf. a planter and gem cutter were mowed down before they could arrive however.

but egads!
another assault, directly south of the fort. The battle was quickly met by Urist and Tirist, but Tirist was dealt a lethal strike to his heart, and bled to death shortly thereafter. Urist avenged him though, defeating all of the goblins. The yellow X marks the spot where Tirist died, and i placed a note to commemorate his sacrifice.

As I said, the damned Elves arrived, but they seemed nice enough so trading wasn't out of the question. I gave them some of the useless knickknacks lying around in return for all their barrels, cages, alcohol, and a single bin of cloth.

Migrants arrived, and i guess somebody else pissed the king off, because here comes one of the stupid assholes from the nobility, a dungeon master.
I bet that asshole'll want his own room too, best start preparing one just in case. we also got an assortment of peasants and fish cleaners, nothing special.

The resident Armorer is acting up though, he kicked Fikod the L. blacksmith outta the only metalsmith's forge and has started collecting things. i'll have to bust his nose if he causes anymore trouble.

but oh wait, it appears he was working on something, and its a bitchin' new shield!
from building that thing, he seems much more capable with his hands, so i've set him to forging new armor for the entire military.

The workshop room is now running much more smoothly than when i found it.
the three wood furnaces have three dedicated wood burners pumping out charcoal nonstop, three furnace operators using said charcoal to smelt iron and platinum bars from the nearby magnetite/platinum pocket, and the one metal forge where Fikod the Blacksmith and The whats-his-face the armorer can produce high-quality metal goods. lord, they're goods are so good, they've already increased fort wealth by 100,000. Also, as you can see, i've created shafts deviating from the room, these are exploratory mines. I've created these as i suspect that many more precious ores are but feet away, hell, we've already got another magnetite and native platinum vein. Fikod the L. Blacksmith oughtta be able to do something useful with that platinum.

In light of the recent attacks, i've ordered a wall and a road to be built.
These will stretch for as far as the eye can see and any attackers will invariably be funneled into it and fall prey to our very sparsely laid traps. i wanted to set more traps but as i was about to give the command, some nutjob named Legolord tackled me and said i couldn't, that i needed to keep a very specific distance between them. i asked him why, but he wouldn't answer, he just stared at me intensely until i agreed. I need to keep an eye on that one, all he does is fire rocks at at a wall and reload cage traps that were placed an uncomfortably long distance away from the fort. i have no idea why, and i don't have it in me to tell him to stop.

Some of my other commands that are not pictured include the construction of another large barracks with beds so some of the newer recruits and peasants have a place to train and sleep, and the near completion of the POW execution island. Those mechanics need to hurry the hell up, i want to see some greenies get shot!

"I'm hurrying, I'm hurrying!"

There are cage traps all over the place?  Weird, I wonder who placed them.  I only built the one on the moat.

ChaoticJosh the 2nd's Journal entries: all of summer

Summer started off on a much more uneventful note than I had thought. I had deduced that the human civilization was seriously pissed off at this fort for some reason, and thus i was preparing for any Human attack, but on the contrary, not only are they not pissed off, they want to trade.
Rather hesitant at first, i decide to just accept it and I buy all their bars, cages, barrels, alcohol, meat, leather, plants, iron bolts, and cheese with two of Fikod's specialty anvils. I bid them farewell, and as they're lumbering away, i remember that i should've been greeted by a liaison but wasn't, i wonder why that is.

Some time later, My exploratory mines pay off big time in the form of a giant-ass native gold vein!
I also found some tetrahedrite veins earlier, if we combine the two, i'll be in electrum heaven baby yeah!

Things have been pretty boring lately, i mean yeah, there was that gold, but i need something that bleeds. Fortunately for me, the first demonstration of the POW execution island is fully prepared!
right their you can see two caged gobbo thieves and a human that had the audacity to attack the great dwarven civilization, and for that, they will die. To the right of the island is Urist, the champion, now with a crossbow, ready to fire away.

Throw the switch guys!

YEAH! SHOOT'EM! SHOOT'EM! KILL KILL!

YEAAAHHHH! ALRIGHT! THEY'RE ALL DEAD! NOW LETS PREPARE THE SECOND BATCH! MUWAHAHAHAHA!

excuse me for that last entry journal, that was incredible unprofessional.

Not much else to say about summer, Dodok, the former mayor get voted out and replaced by some asshole named Goden.
Why is he an asshole? because he hasn't been mayor for more than a season, and he has already instituted two mandates, one for 1 spear, easy enough, but the other was for sterling silver items, and i only have 1 sterling silver bar. I get a serious fucking headache trying to deal with these guys that think they're big shit, but i'm the one calling the shots around here, ME!

The last days of summer are coming to a conclusion, but i get a surprise just before the final day passes.
Looks like Autumn is gonna have a present for me.

ChaoticJosh the 2nd's Journal entries: all of autumn

Autumns just starting, and whats-his-face finishes whatever he was working on.I am greeted with a very grim treat...
A coffin! is this a joke or a premonition? I don't know but this is a bad omen, a very bad omen. Perhaps i'll die here? i don't want to think about it.

For further safeguarding, i quickly order the second half of the funnel walls built and lay down more sparsely laid traps.
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y300/slapstar/4bakedfools2.jpg) I should be safer now.

GREAT news! a huge dwarven caravan arrives.
i counted'em as they came in, 7 wagons and 7 pack animals.

They come bearing treasure of every variety, and i am quite pleased. Still no liaison though, what the fuck is up with that?
i trade some more goodies that Fikod made in exchange for bars, blocks, barrels, alcohol, meat, plants, milk, cheese, a couple bundles of steel bolts, and a new mace to give to our resident macelord. He should be happy.

I am delighted as the very first baby dwarf is born under my reign!
His Mother named him Zulban Boathelps, a very odd name, what the hell IS a boat? I know i've never seen one.

As the last days of Autumn near their end, i notice an exceptional engraving as I eat in the dining hall.
I can only think that that dwarf loves my execution island as much as I do. This engraving is now my favorite engraving.

Some other events not pictured include the discovery of not one, but TWO fat magnetite veins, and another BIG native platinum vein, this fort'll be swimming in ore forever! Also, i've renovated the butchery shop to be separated from the rest of the storehouse and have begun butchering all the excess animals that we have caught, including the crapload of groundhogs we've recently captured and tamed. Also, i've finished procuring the long list of fucking demands for that asshole noble dungeon master, all i need done now is get his office up-to-snuff and he'll be happy.

I'm preparing something GOOD for this winter, and I won't let you know what it is! well, i'll give you a hint, it involves wolves!

ChaoticJosh the 2nd's journal entries: all of winter

This is the start of winter Journal, and the games are just beginning.

Here is my newest entertainment, our last two captured greenskins VS four wolves that our traps captured.
Lets see who'll come out on top!

Pull the switch guys!

YES! CARNAGE! WOLVES! DESCEND AND RIP THOSE GREENIES APART!

YEAAAAH! THOSE GREENIES GOT RIPPED TEN NEW ASSHOLES! HAHAHAHA!

on a serious note, we were picking up the pieces of those goblins for days.

Lokum, the resident Legendary engraver, gets it into his head to hijack an unused craftsdwarfshop. He picks up some things and comes out a couple days later with this... thing.
I'm not sure what to make of it, i'm not sure if i WANT to make something of it.

Alright! the wall is finally done! Marginal safety is ensured!
Not pictured: at the topmost section of the wall, there is a door so that the wood haulers don't have to travel an extra mile just to get some wood. This door should be locked in case of ANY attack.

Jesus Christ, the creator of that artifact Coffin suffered serious injuries somehow.
I'm not sure what happened, but there were blood spatters covering some of the stairways. i can only deduce that he fell down the stairs like a dumbass. He's probably gonna be bedridden for the rest of his life too.

Horrible news, a messenger from the mountainhomes has arrived. I thought this was gonna be great news, but the asshole only came to tell me of the "Postponed acquittal of my egregious sin against his majesty". Yeah, postponed my ass, i've heard that phrase before, it fucking means "Hope you like it here cause your never coming back sucker!". GODDAMN nobility! they can all go to Hell!

I am so depressed now that i've heard that news, looks like that bad omen was right, i am goin to die here. If I'm going to die in this shithole, then i atleast want the best damn tomb this craphouse is worth! This is what i've built for myself.
Its in a near-empty native platinum vein, covered top-to-bottom with Lokum's masterful engravings. I've ordered that my body be placed in the artifact Coffin that was made earlier during my reign. Its pretty, i know, but it still depresses me to look at it.

Ha, i can't take this crap anymore, i don't want to be leader, i just want to work in my smelter and make metal bars. its simple work, i know, but it comforts me to work with Metal, see it melt in the fire and then shape it into bars. its good honest work. I can't just leave this place leaderless though, i pull aside the first dwarf i see and ask his name, "Ratepe" he says. I tell him he's the new leader, and good luck. he'll need it.

Winter's almost over, yep, i look at our records and i know that i've done alot of good.
it certainly is better than when i started when you compare them.

Looks like this is the end for my reign, i hope that Ratepe guy does well.

OOC: Can someone help me? I can't figure out how to upload my save file onto that Dwarf fortress file depot place.

EVERYONE says that the last overseer made a mess.  I said it, IronValley said it, and even you, chaoticjosh, said it.  It's a succession game.  Everyone has a different play style, it's going to be a mess no matter what.

That's where the fun is!

Spring
So just the other day I got assigned to the Bakedfools outpost.  I was excited at first…until I actually got here. I walked in what seemed a large outside corridor that seemed to last for forever!  And get this diary: When I finally got out of that small labyrinth, there was a series of small bridges, water EVERYHWERE!  And then I saw it, the bloody island, where there was what seemed like goblins and wolves duking it out. Oh god, the blood and the chunks and the vomit! And the denizens just watched them and laughed!  When the bloodbath was over and there was only one left standing, the dwarves turned foul and shot the victor… these guys sure are some MEAN LITTLE MEN!

1st Granite, 241:
I started to explore this foul place, but I haven’t quite found my way around yet…It seems that everyone sleeps in one giant room, all cramped up.  There are engravings everywhere, the stockpiles are messes!  While roaming what seemed to be a mining tunnel, a strange man with a crazy look in his eye came to me and pulled me aside, telling me that I would be the one to run this place…seriously?  Shortly after, still dazed as to what happened, I came into a large room…
(http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e254/Ratepe/Betterbecareful.jpg)
I better be careful...
Yea…this place needs a leader.  I order for INDIVIDUAL rooms to be dug out, and for mass doors to be built…where the hell is the masons’ workshop around here?  There are levers everywhere, so I don’t really know which one to pull… I heard there was a doomsday switch somewhere… so I better be careful.  I also noticed a lack of farms, I saw one small one outside, which is textbook…but I didn’t see any underground ones, so, I ordered for the creation of a farm room!

So I grab all the champions and form up a squad of ass kickery of the highest order… “The Planks of Scorching!”

13th Granite:
The farming project is nearly done, all we have to do now is plow the fields.

20th Granite:
Ambushers! They catch a hunter off guard and slaughter him.
I tell everyone but our Elite Planks to go inside, this is going to get ugly.  I station my men near the elven caravan, and…Crap! Another ambush!
This time they go for a woodcutter, he tries to make a run for the hills, but I lose sight of him as I see one of the champions wander away?! I send the others to make sure she isn’t alone…ANOTHER AMBUSH! They caught Momuz by himself!
But he makes short work of the ambushing party.  I don’t know why, but these guys just don’t seem to stay together.  I send my main force to deal with the first ambushing party…Piece of cake, not one scratch on our boys
(http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e254/Ratepe/Sticksoffire.jpg)
…but oh shit! I spot the woodcutter again and send out the guys to deal with the gobbos, but they seem to be retreating! Success!

2th Granite:
Some goblin snatchers came up, messed up a hunter pretty bad, I think he’s going to make it. The child molester was killed shortly after. And the other one ran away.

3rd Granite:
Scratch that, the hunter died.

3rd Slate:
Ooo about 18 migrants! Hmmm I fell like Security is lacking… Ill get Fikod, Athel and an already experienced swordsman, to stand guard.  Thob shall be leading them.

9th Slate:
Another pesky but dead gobbo child molester. PROCESS HIS BONES!

20th Slate:
Possesion! I also built 2 metalsmith forges, need it so I can pump out the Iron Platemails for our army.

27th Slate:

Rhesus macaques, sending my rookie squad after them.

10th Felsite:
More macaques… Lolor butchered them. Building larger arms and armor stockpiles, same with clothings and gems and metal.

Summer!

13th Hematite:
The mayor has mandated the production of 3 sterling silver items. I don’t even think we have sterling silver!

17th Hematite:
A new Mayor has been elected, but that doesn’t matter. I’m building him a new room made out if IRON!

Summer wasn’t very eventful, and seeing those other guys die earlier, I decided to make myself a pure platinum tomb at the bottom of the fort, and a fallout bunker on the top right just in case things go crazy.

Fall

13th Limestone:
Construction on a fallout bunker is nearly finished.  And a dwarven caravan came in, I wonder what they have?

28th Limestone:
Some more Kobold thieves, none of them make it out alive.  Silly beasts.

28th Sandstone:
[Paranoia] MY bunker is done, all it needs now is the furnishings in which I can do myself…

2nd Timber:
With fall almost over with, the trees are now starting to look like dried brown husks, I look up into the night sky to hear Legolord start screaming from atop his tower.  Something about catapults.

22nd timber:
The construction on the future fighting pit has started, and there is now an export on QUIVERS!

Winter!

10th Moonstone
Legolord just keeps standing there with a sad look on his face, on top of his tower.  I feel bad for the guy.

4th Opal:
Operations continue smoothly, but the animals…the animals…must die…

26th Opal
A kobold thief tried to make it past one of our champions, but instead got the shit beat out of it by a right iron gauntlet.

3rd Obsidian:
This guy must have seen what happened
(http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e254/Ratepe/legendary2.jpg)

21st Obisidian:
The fighting pit is complete, and my plan is reaching its final stages...

28th Obsidian:
A child decides to start a party at the new pit, in which two peasants are duking it out.  With enough people in there, I lock the two doors that lead out, and with everyone entertained…I’m pretty sure nobody caught me.  I toss a key to a fool just standing around in the kitchen and tell him to enjoy.  I slip back into the dredges of this outpost’s society, but a lowly peasant again.  Let’s have a social experiment shall we? Hahahahah

Thats what the end looks like.

Not much really happened after Spring. Making new rooms/furniture hauling/stone dumping (at least 1000 freaking stones)/metalsmithing/building a fallout shelter, that really put a damper on my progress, but I thought the Fighting pit was pretty pimp.
My only regret was not finishing my shelter in time :(

Also, remember to shift+n for notes

What happened to my dwarf?  Did she go melancholy?  (I did not intend for her to be a she, by the way, and if that did happen this would be a good opportunity to correct that).

Still, nice job.  I think "the dwarf is shooting the dwarf" is from my turn, when the world gen hero liaison went berserk.  Man, that was awesome.

Nah, it just says she is used to tragedy, and always stands on top of the tower by the restraints, when not shooting a catapult.  She went thirsty once, but got something shortly after.

Oh, okay.  Hmm . . . this gives me ideas for my next turn (whenever that will be).

Of course the idea assumes LegoLord is still alive, and there's no guarantee of that.

WARNING BECAUSE OF A SAVE BUG THIS IS ALTERNATE HISTORY

Diary of Kaisar. 13th of granite 242.

My bloody god. What have I got myself in for. as I entered the fort a wolf barely restrained growled at me, whilst the rest of society tried to stay alive on the surface, a surface were a moat has overgrown its welcome and is now wrapped its tendrils over the landscape. heading inside I found a locked door in the depths, with fighting, drinking and swearing coming from the other side. gingerly opening it I found a group of dwarves locked inside. They'd of starved if I hadnt of found them.

I stood on 4 cats just trying to get out of the way, and decided that was that. My first order?

a 3 by 3 pit, dug within minutes, atleast the labour is good. Within that pit I threw every animal I could find, well all except those brutes of wolves in the cages. I'll decide what to do with them later.

now that thats out of the way its time to build a utopia. I know I can do it. Sure a few dwarves may die to make it. But you have to break a few eggs to make an omelette.

Write soon, Diary.

25th of granite 242

Oh bloody hell, im trying to create a Utopia and more nobles turned up, seems the kings declared this area a barony, and on top of that as the guy arrived he demanded he was promoted to Count.

I'm working on getting his papers, I want to know everything about this guy, who he sleeps with, what he likes. I'll have it all known. but for the moment I'm finishing my other projects.

two projects, im going to bury those damn animals and then I wont have to listen to them again. Im preparing to collapse the roof into that pit.

I've also created a scaled pit, with the same crushing system,  not sure what ill use it for, but its good to have a crushing pit around.

14th of hemanite early summer 242

Well I almost died today, my god I saw my life flash before my eyes. I found some one armed miner laying in bed, no one even knows his name. he's got no friends but he's holding onto that pick, a pick that I could use to help mine the new rooms ive made for the nobles (gotta keep them happy, happy nobles are easily guided) I told a dwarf to drag one of the wolf cages up to his room, hook it up to the lever and then we'd have another pick to assign. however when I pulled the lever I found out something shocking, the idiots hadnt locked the bloody door. The damn beast chased me almost twice around the fortress before a soldier found him. He's smeared all around the fort now. I'll work out how to kill that dwarf later.

Also, I killed all the spare animals, buried under the sixteen tonnes of sand.

I'll give an update on the nobles townhouses later, there three story high houses build in the style of humans, built inside a four story high dwarf made cavern. I hope that keeps the inbeciles happy.

the following text is quickly scrawled and shows many signs of a rushed and scared writer. no date other than "midwinter" was given

my god, help. A skeletal dragon has come. We're all doomed, Doomed. I've rallied the army, and hopefully it'll be defeated. I've taken cover in my tomb and hope that some survive to keep the economy going. Bugger, I'm meant to be leading this utopia, I'll lead the forces into battle. I hope for the best.

My tomb is finished, the houses are done, and the moat extended, my ancestors and successors are honoured and I am ready to die, to arms champions of Bakedfools, We fight till death.
Title: Re: Mean Little Men [Succession]

to your highking

Osna Sweltersizzled the silvery pearl the skeletal dragon is dead, slain by the mighty hands of bakedfools in 242. Amongst the brave number was the leader of them at that time, Kaisar, after the battle no one knew what happened to kaisar, he probably went to live in the fortress as a citizen, all anyone knows is that his tomb is slept in by a old man, an old man respected by those of baked fools.

The slayer of the dragon was none other the captain of the guard, who still lives within bakedfools till this day.

242 is coming to a close, and in the tradition of bakedfools the dawn of a new leader awaits. to protect and rule the men and women of baked dwarves, and to honour those that came before him.

enclosed is the final report from kaisar, dated from late autumn, it seems it was lost during the seige of the great dragon, and was recovered only at the last minute. it is short, his mind was obviously wondering.

Yours, your royal servant.

Quote

late autumn 242, diary of kaisar.

my tomb is finished, and the new tombs for the workers are also. I dug up the bones of the
the animals I killed at the begining of the year, and started crafting them into addornments for our mighty warriors.

I'm afraid my files on the nobles were never procured, I trust my successor will find time to obtain them.

I never did find out were all the stone I ordered dumped ended up, but what you dont know cant hurt you, surely?

yours kaisar.

also there was a little foodshortage so I turned all the farms underground to plumphelmet creation, you may want to turn that off/reel it in, or you may be up to your eyes in plump helmets soon.

Also, throughout the entire year I dumped alot of stone, yet never managed to work out were it was going, there may be an accidental quantum stockpile there, from someone elses dumpzone that was accidently not dezoned. you should look into that.

Okay, here's the spring and (most of) the summer of 242.  Due to some technical issues, I couldn't get d3c0y2's save, so I'll be starting where the guy before him left off.

Diary of LegoLord, Evil Genius

1st granite, 242
I’m finally back in charge!  The new overseer is a complete idiot, some guy named Kaiser or something.  Easily duped.  The first thing I’ve had him do is fix the tombs.  Ratepe’s tomb was built in the wrong place entirely.  I had to have it moved.  It was supposed to go in that nice smoothed out room on the eastern side.  The peasant tombs are supposed to expand to the north.  Someone didn’t do that.

I’m also beginning the process of fixing the moat.   This starts with getting rid of the trees and stockpiles inside it.  Some idiot filled part of it with water and put walls in it.  What good is water in a moat, anyway?  How are we supposed to go in and get the stuff in it?

Yet another idiot let some stray kittens grow into cats awhile back.  We’re lucky they haven’t decided to adopt anyone yet.  I have ordered them to be butchered, along with a lot of other animals.  There are too many here.

2nd Granite
I found a lever surrounded by walls near the gate.  I pulled it, and found that it raised the drawbridge-something I had already provided a lever for in the far superior location of the hallway leading to the dining room.  This is due to be fixed.

6th Granite
I managed to get the drawbridge to Linthar’s hold pulled down.  Now the lever controlling it is being torn down.  He was doing nothing but fishing, so it’s a good thing we got in when we did.  He would have starved.  He is no longer allowed to fish.  We also have our other skilled mechanic back.  I know I’m good, but although I hate to admit it, he works faster than I do.

13th Granite
I discovered that many dwarves were going to a far corner of our territory to store items in a stockpile.  I found that they were going to this strange hole in the dirt far away from the rest of the fort.  Some one left a note asking not to disturb it.  I ignored the note due to the location’s uselessness, and have ordered it sealed.  On a side note, Ratepe’s tomb has been fully moved to its proper location.

Some kid working on the moat complained about how the sunlight was making him sick.  I just told him he’s being too emo.

16th Granite
Ratepe’s wife has given birth to a girl, just after the hippy Elf caravan was spotted.  That sounds like a bad omen for the girl.  I’d congratulate him, but it seems like he’s been upset with me lately.  Her name is Tulon Workswims.

21st Granite
I found a pair of locked doors labeled “future death pit!”  I unlocked them and took a look inside and found many of our dwarves locked inside.  Among them was our broker and several legendary dwarves, including a miner, gem cutter, clerk, and metalworker.  I let them out cause they were starving- er I mean, because they were no good to me dead.  I need to talk to Ratepe.

23rd Granite
I had someone trade with the elves today.  And by trade, I mean “seize all the fruit and seeds they had and grab some logs.”  There wasn’t much fruit.  There was a lot of cloth, though.  I made sure it was ignored.  Hopefully the Elves will bring more fruit and less cloth next time.  Maybe even some sun berries.

2nd Slate
At long last, my personal chambers are near completion.  I started it my first year here, but after losing my influence over Ironvalley, no one felt like having it finished.  I have unofficially adopted the caged cougar.  It is tethered next to my door.

7th Slate
I just noticed that there are more farms than could ever be necessary.  I’ve ordered some of them removed.

12th Slate.
Arggh!  A baroness, tax collector, and hammerer have arrived!  For some reason, though, the tax collector is not demanding coins be made.  I am suspicious.  I don’t think the King approves of this outpost.  I fear my days here may be limited.  Unfortunately, I have to keep them happy, or else they will become suspicious.

14th Slate
The wave of migrants continues to flow.  The moment the 110th dwarf arrived, the Baroness declared this land a county, and proceeded to give herself a promotion.  I hate her.

24th Slate
I’ve removed all the finished good stockpiles.  They are simply taking up too much time.  Everyone chooses to go out and grab some useless craft rather than do their job.  It’s irritating.  That problem is solved now.

1st Felsite
Olon Syrupswamps, some dabbling mason, just made an excellent table.  I can see it in a museum one day.  It’s called Lanziltalul, “The Venerable Language.”  It’s valued at 70800 bucks.

With all the commotion with that immigrant wave, I didn’t even notice he was working on it.

9th Hematite
The human caravan has been spotted.  There’s no diplomat, although I have to say I haven’t expected to see a human diplomat since the last time I had any power over the dwarves of this fort.

16th Hematite
Curse the incompetence of the previous rulers!  The human caravan only just arrived at the depot today because of the channel from the brook and that insanely huge wall!  I’ve ordered a section of that wall demolished and designated the construction of a bridge over the channel.

17th Hematite
Rather unexpectedly, a human diplomat arrived today.  I hope he’s here for a trade agreement, and not to arrest me for driving the last diplomat insane.

19th Hematite
Hmm . . . the diplomat was here to sign a peace treaty.  The Baroness got very angry when he said that.  It’s lucky I was there at the time to stop her from causing problems.  I told the diplomat that she’d been having a bad day and that she’d actually be happy to sign the treaty.  That was close.  There have been some nasty battles these past few years.

2nd Malachite
Migrants arrived.  A total of nine people and two animals.

4th Malachite
I’ve sealed myself inside my chambers for protection.  I don’t feel safe with those nobles around.

27th Malachite
It’s been one dull month.  I’ve been watching things from the crystal glass window of my tower.  Kaiser has also been slipping messages under my door on paper birds.  I tamed the wolves that have been stuck in cages inside my quarters.  One of them must have killed before, though, because it had a taste for dwarven flesh.  I was, however, armed with a pick, and managed to kill it.  I should be having wolf sometime soon.

1st Galena
A metal crafter has been possesed!  I wonder what he will make . . . hopefully it won’t be a corpse.

11th Galena
The metal crafter made Thebilrigoth, “The Silky Crafts,” a copper amulet worth 79200 bucks.

What an appropriate name.  Too bad there’s no silk on it, though.

Okay, that's all for now.  Sorry about letting Linthar out, ChaoticJosh, but he was our only legendary mechanic and he was stuck on a fishing loop.  He would have starved to death.

Sorry dude.  I tried downloading again and got the same results.  It was the one you uploaded too.  Perhaps you uploaded the wrong file?

I think the problem may be on my end, since upgrading to vista dwarven fortress has given me hell.

I went into my dwarf fortress folder and deleted all my files then copied and pasted only the downloaded file in, but when I open dwarf fortress the saved files are exactly the same as I had before I deleted. its really giving me hell.

anyone else encountered this problem?

I think ive gotten to the bottom of it, basically my saved game folder was/is bugged so what im actually playing ingame isnt the same save as what is in the df folder, not realising this I uploaded what I assumed was the right folder, but actually it wasnt... I cannot for the life of me work out the reason why this happened, but I apologise, unfortunately, this means I cant get my hands on the actual save for my turn (cus I dont know were it is or even if it exists) so what I suggest is we pretend my turn never happened, and hopefully by the time my next turn comes along i'll have the problem fixed.

Okay.  Sorry about that dude.  How about you just put a note at the beginning of your write-ups calling them an alternate history, so we don't confuse people and you don't have to get rid of them?
Also, I changed my story a bit so that your dwarf is in it.  He is the legendary gemcutter, the closest thing I could find to what you said he was before.  Now you are the one telling me what's going on while I hide in my room, instead of ChaoticJosh.

Okay, here's most of the fall season.  The fps is still pretty low despite all the butchering I did.

Diary of LegoLord
20th Galena, 242
I’ve made plans to dig out more living quarters.  Hopefully no one will engrave these.  I hope the tax collector never decides to start charging for rooms – if he does, a lot of dwarves will get evicted.

22nd Galena
Kaiser tells me that the mayor has mandated the construction of two bismuth items.  Is that even physically possibly?

25th Galena
The masons are to begin producing blocks in massive quantities.  It has occurred to me that there is no proper vault to protect the valuable artifacts that Bakedfools has accumulated.  Therefore, I have begun planning the construction of a large vault built atop a thin, guarded, tower.

15th Limestone
A caravan from the mountain homes has arrived!  Just wonderful!  I absolutely wanted to be shut up in my room for another couple of months!

22nd Limestone
Trading occurred today.  A lot of steel goods were bought in exchange for some bolts.  Someone gave them a masterpiece iron goods as an offering to the king.  What a waste.  The steel crafts purchased are to be melted down to be used in armor and weapons.

4th Sandstone
The Tower is nearing completion.  It shall be called the Tilted Tower of Artifacts.  It shall hold our most valuable prizes, such as the bauxite idol and the copper amulet that metalcrafter made.

11th Timber
The Tilted Tower of Artifacts is nearly complete.  My--er, I mean, the fort's--artifacts are now safe.  The scaffolding has been removed, the artifacts are inside, the traps are set, and it has been coated in the vomit of the sun-sick emo-kid dwarves.  All it needs now is a little goblin blood to dedicate it to Armok.

Finished. (http://mkv25.net/dfma/movie-1024-finishingthetiltingtowerofartifacts)

I should have the winter season up sometime this week.  But not tonight.

Title: Re: Mean Little Men [Succession]
Post by: LegoLord on December 30, 2008, 07:44:18 pm
Okay, here's the last one.

Diary of LegoLord

14th Timber
Everyone has been upset at how there are no new clothes, as there old clothes are becoming threadbare.  Pig tails are no longer to be eaten so that there can be a sufficient supply of thread to make new clothing.

22nd Timber
A wall is being built around the interior of our moat, or at least the important parts of it.  It is to be made of rough rock, to make the fort look as menacing as the warriors within.  The unimportant parts of the moat are being floored over.

26th Timber
My ballista misfired today.  I’m told that a butcher and an engraver were killed.  Curiously, we now have exactly 125 dwarves now.  What an unusually nice, round number.  The blast shield for my siege weapon is now up for safety.

10th Moonstone
I was cutting wood today when I found a kid in my personal tree farm.  How he got there, I don’t know, and he won’t say.  He does say, however, that his name is Igor and that he wants to work for me.  I tried to play dumb, but he said that he had dug up my old diary while playing in the sand.  Then he said that every evil genius needs an Igor.  I gave up at that point and decided I wouldn’t throw him out.  He better do something useful at some point.

21st Moonstone
A goblin snatcher was caught at the gates.  Literally.  He’s stuck in the only cage trap in the area.  Lucky for us, that.  Goblins sure are stupid.

23rd Moonstone
Using the new walls as support, a fortified electrum arc is now being constructed.  To give our few marksdwarves an advantage, the fortifications will face inwards.  They won’t stop a siege, but now the can at least be of more help.

Later there was another snatcher, this time revealed by a woodcutter going out to work.  Fortunately, he took no children.

25th Moonstone
Yet another snatcher ran stupidly into the cage trap.  What is wrong with them?

15th Opal
The arch has been finished and is now being filled with combat quality ammo.  That means no bone or wood bolts, no arrows of any kind, and no darts.

16th Opal
Ambush!  They jumped one of our legendary woodworkers.  Hopefully he is smart enough to run back into the fort.

19th Opal
As it turned out, he didn’t have the brains.  He ran right for them and took a shot in the left arm.  He ran around awhile, getting chased by a duo of wrestlers, before he finally decided to face them.  He quickly cut the left leg off one and the right leg off the other before killing them both.  Kaiser tells me one of the bodies was cut in half at the waist.  Then he ran right back towards the marksmen, who shot him some more before he ran away.  They managed to get a few more shots at him.  Someone engraved a picture for me.

He was able to keep going with four bolts in him, one of which was going through his lung.

20th Opal
They finally managed to kill Mistem Relictrailed.  It’s really a shame.  I remember watching him work on that artifact birch door.

23rd Opal
The last of the ambusher was completely destroyed by the champions.  Not a single one managed to escape.  Hooray!

25th Opal
The Countess has had a baby girl.  I’d congratulate her, but she’s a noble.

Due to booze shortages, pigtails can now be brewed once more.

19th Obsidian
My personal wolf pack has grown by three pups.  Wonderful.

1st Granite, 243
Kaiser hasn’t been telling me much lately.  I’m not sure why.  Work on the wall protect my tree farm has been going slow, so I’ve made modifications to it; if I pull the lever in the Northeast corner of my room, another dwarf can build a way into my tree farm and build the wall for me without being able to get into my room.  I just hope Kaiser shows up soon to deliver the message.

Alright, here's the save (http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=769).  Please don't let LegoLord starve, rucksackJack, but don't let her out of her room, either.

It's too bad there was no skeletal dragon like there was in d3c0y2's story.  That would have been fun.

Post by: JoshuaFH on January 07, 2009, 04:57:22 am
This is painful! I'm not kidding when i say the lag is bad. the game is running at about half speed the speed of previous turn. Last time it took a couple hours to get a season done, now it's taking the same amount of time to get one month done.

I'll still do it, i'm just sorry if it takes awhile to deliver the updates.

Really? cause you had alot of animals just running around. So i did that, helped marginally. Once again, very sorry if this takes awhile.

I'm doing something awesome to make up for the slowness though, it's way more awesome than than your shitty inward pointing electrum arch. Can't believe you used up all my electrum to make a crappy ammo room.

Also, i killed all your wolves lego, sorry.

ChaoticJosh the 2nd's journal, all of spring:

Well, Hell. Apparently the yearly raffle chose me as this hellhole's leader, again. I had abosrbed myself so diligently in my work, taking so much care of the metal production, that I had completely overlooked the horrible things the new leaders were doing!

No one's working! No one! everyone is just standing in the dining hall fucking around! What happened to the well-oiled factory that i whipped this place into?!

Looking around some more, I can see WHY no one's working, everyone's just living off the built up wealth and food! Their is nothing urgent to tend to, and this has made these people weak! The only thing that seems to still be healthy is the military, which is bigger and stronger than ever.

Within moments of declaring that i'm the new leader, someone spazes out and heads to a leather workshop. promptly producing a neat skirt. Someone's bound to probably feel pretty in it.

Goddamnit, I mean it, GODDAMNIT! I step outside, and theirs something new hanging over the entrance. Glaring brightly as it reflects the sun, i walk up to get a closer look, and on closer inspection i found it to be a giant hollow arch filled with iron bolts, with firing peepholes made on the wrong side! worst part though? It's made entirely of electrum! MY ELECTRUM! I can just tell that that loony-bin Legolord must have made this, seeing as how he's locked himself up in what appears to be an entirely new section of the fort, and also the arch has "Legolord's property, no touchy" written all over it. My hard sweat and tears went into making that electrum! I issued the orders and unearthed the ingredients! I made the finely oiled machine that smelted it! and he squanders it all on a collossal waste of space! What do we need something like this for? we only have one marksdwarf anyhow!

I'm gonna get back at that lunatic! I'm gonna get back at the lousy nobility that sent me to the madhouse to suffer! Yeah! i'll show'em! As long as i'm the leader, no one'll even question me! the lemmings! I'll have'em all build me a grand monument! So grand it'll overshadow everything done in this fort thus far! and i'll live like a king for the rest of my days within it. That'll show'em, i'll be the happiest little bastard those nobility ever saw!

I have something like 15 new mason's workshops built outside, and i order all the lazy assholes milling around that they're masons now! GET TO WORK! this monument isn't gonna be made outta fucking raw stone! it'll be made of blocks! fine blocks! the entire thing!

When everyone walks outside, i must have underestimated how long they've been down there as they start puking all over the place. disgusting!

I've decided that what we're building is a tower! I look at the sky and wonder how high i can build it! it simply must be the tallest tower that dwarf-kind can build! This is for ME, and it must be the tallest by far in order to overshadow everything else in this fort!

It's the 20th, and the elves have arived, we give'm some food in exchange for their cloth and other knickknacks. That's not exciting though, what is exciting the biggest goddamn set of ambushes i've ever seen has just been dealt with rather swiftly by our resident champion-squad.

I was under the impression that those gobbo fuckers would only send 4 squads at any one time, some sort of internal bureaucracy thing, but I'll be damned, FIVE squads showed up for this mother. They were all slaughtered, but the number of'em is just amazing! I stepped outside just to count the corpses. TWENTY-FUCKING-EIGHT! Twenty-eight ambushers were slaughtered! ha ha ha! Not a single one escaped too!

Heres something of a drawing of only a fraction of the carnage:

All my attention goes towards the tower! It will be finished promptly! I demand it!

however, horns from the east ring out. Signifying the arrival of blasted noble! I spy out from the highest vantage point and can clearly see from the pattern on his clothes that it's only the philosopher, the biggest pussy of all the nobles. For a moment, i was worried.

Work on the tower is going so smoothly! This will be no barren tower! it will be the best furnished building in this craphole! Their will be statues on every floor! and my bedroom will be on the highest floor! It will have windows too! Yes! a magnificent view of all the land! I'll have the best view in the entire dwarven kingdom! Even the king will envy me! I'll show him!

HA! Spring is almost done, and the tower is almost complete, It still needs to be furnished, but here we can see some dwarves finishing up the roof!

Is this the end of my monument? HELL NO! I'll build a second adjacent tower! Why? because when it's viewed from afar, it'll look like a "II"! get it?! That way, everyone'll know i built it, cause Chaoticjosh the 2nd built it cause it clearly looks like a "II" from afar! If i'm ever blessed with children, i'll let them live in it too!

Spot!  NOOOOoooooooooooo!  Oh hey, wolf meat!

Just to explain the arch, the idea is that goblins are allowed to pass under it, and are shot before the can fire back.

You'll never overshadow my arch, Josh.  Its shine goes for miles  ;D

I might have to ask for some extra time, Qloos.

Alot of interesting things are happening though, it'll be worth the wait.

and to retort to Lego, I like how you've obsoleted the extensive and effective protective walling that the fort has with a plan that only works if you let the goblins into the fort.

Oh yeah, how could I forget the bridges. Those have SO proven themselves to be a deterrent to tragedy.

Your idea works in theory, too bad it fails in every other way.

Oh yeah, back in character:

---------------------------------------------------

ChaoticJosh the 2nd's journal: all of summer

I've decided that regular fucking windows isn't good enough for my tower, so i have a plethora of GEM windows built, quickly depleting this craphole's stock of cut gems in the process. I have our three available gem cutters (the one we had, and two that came in the immigration wave) to cutting the large amount of uncut gems we have and i set miners to intense exploratory mining. One of the miners, i noticed, is egregiously injured for some reason, something lopped his frickin' arm off for crying out loud. I pull aside one of our new peasants and tell him he's a miner now to make up.

Work is going SO SMOOTHLY, it's amazing what these dunderheads can do when you hit them hard enough. Why, just the other day I... OH MY GOD WHATS THAT!?

A siege? REALLY? we're getting sieged! Wow, imagine that. Right at the start of the month too! Now the Humies'll be scared off! I was looking forward to insulting them for their beardlessness too. Let's see, there is about 18 gobbo's there, most of'em bowgoblins too. I'm glad i fixed the damage to my security tunnel, so now their routed!

I would put more pictures to the siege journal, but it was QUITE disappointing. They ever so slowly charged through the security tunnel, hitting EVERY SINGLE TRAP that was sparcely laid out for just such an occasion, and right when they were getting to the end, they gave up and started slowly retreating! I wouldn't tolerate not-dead gobbos, so i sent the champion squad to go finish'em off, they did a very good job. Momuz chased one a good half-mile before catching up and slaughtering it. it was a very entertaining sight.

The lousy Baroness steps out of her room and declares she's a Duchess, and that this is a Duchy now. BIG FRICKIN' WOOP!

Oh wait, it is a big deal after all, a MailDwarf arrived and told me the King was interested in a visit, but that we had to do certain things first...

That asshole king wants to come here! The nerve! This place is bad enough, but he wants to come and make it worse himself! Amazing, simply amazing!

It's almost the end of summer, and the second tower is shaping up nicely! all the floors and walls and the ceiling is done! Now it just needs to be furnished! Oh wait! one of my miners has gone into a fey mood you say? HE'S MADE AN ARTIFACT ARMOR STAND YOU SAY???

Yes, it will certainly do, I am very pleased with this. This is the most impeccable timing i've ever seen. I will place this in my bedroom at the top of the tower, and it will be magnificent. The creator will most certainly be rewarded, right after he GETS DONE MINING GODDAMNIT GET BACK TO WORK!

After that, other than a lone and quickly squealched tantrum, their is no other news for summer.

------------------

OOC: I'm not sure what to do Qloos. Should I fulfill the conditions to get the King or can I ignore him without breaking the rules of the challenge?

But as host of the game, Qloos has the final say.  This ain't a democracy.

ChaoticJosh the 2nd's journal: all of Autumn

Yes! My towers are nearly complete! the top floor of the second tower has been given a suitable set of gem windows (each tower uses about 60 gems each).

and with all the floors done, i only need to furnish it. Cue PARADE of statues! Statues on EVERY floor, against EVERY wall. On the roof? NOTHING BUT STATUES!

oh, and to spice things, up, i've tied up the last cougar cub with a masterwork rope next to my new bed. IT IS CUDDLY AND IT WILL BE SO!

The Dwarven caravan come and other than buying out all the valuables, i give them the requisite amount of offering the King OH-SO-NEEDS atop his high-horse.

Trouble is brewing though, i have no fucking idea what the hell happened, but people are freaking out about it.

Ok guys, I know, i've been working you to death for a while now, i think it's time that everyone just caaaaalm down. We can take a break until Winter, and then we... AW HELL!

Ingish the Donkey died!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! That is it! I'm making sure that my tower gets down NO MATTER HOW MANY DIE IN THE PROCESS!

Place those statues faster! Theirs only a couple hundred left to go! AHAHAHA!

Look how unhappy you are!

All the statues are placed! The roof staircase is destroyed and the resulting shockwave sends a child flying into the arms of a nearby statue. It's a beautiful and hilarious sight alright! I use the remainder of the blocks to pave over my POW execution island from my first turn of leadership, so the place looks nicer.

Their is death everywhere! People won't stop fighting! Many Legendaries, including the Legendary blacksmith and armorsmith have already died in the senseless violence! Their is a revelation though...

Wow, the Royal guard becomes more experienced from killing royalty! Whodda thought?!

OH HEY! THAT DUCHESS BITCH HAD A MIGHTY FINE ARTIFACT TABLE!!! I'LL JUST BE TAKING THAT UP TO MY TOWER, THANK YOU!

People die and kill more and more every day. More and more vandalism is being committed as the hours dwindle. The fort guard can only do so much to quell the violence, but it only drives the masses to commit increasingly heinous acts. Their is not a dwarf that cannot say they have not seen the death of an innocent child. Towards what end do they fight? For less blood, or more? It is almost like a spiral, a spiral that is far removed from myself, who has few friends to worry about. Yes, so far removed from me, all this trouble, it is alien to me now. All I can do is sit atop my luxurious tower, on my golden chair (the last thing the legend Fikod ever made), Sip whip wine on my artifact table, look down through my gem windows, and judge the puny weak nobodies who struggle and die for no reason. That sight is beautiful, mighty beautiful indeed.
