Title: LCS 3.16.0 Release - Updated!
Post by: Jonathan S. Fox on November 14, 2008, 03:49:49 am
[The download is fixed! Now with 11% less bugs!]

Windows Download:
http://www.jonathansfox.com/lcs/lcs_win32_3.16.0.zip

Incomplete list of some of the changes since 3.15.1:

* Made gunuse only trigger when you fire, not when the enemy fires
* Fixed display issue with court when you have a sleeper lawyer
* Made Congress more volatile
* Testing giving Senate the House code
* Tweaked accuracy for the assault rifles
* Liberals no longer swing their guns at pursuing vehicles when out of ammo
* CCS will appear later in the game
* CCS Members will not spawn anywhere until they start attacking
* CCS creature names changed
* Two new CCS creature types: Arsonist and Sniper
* CCS characters will no longer show up as such in site mode, but instead will be "hidden classes" similar to the Professional Thief
* The CCS will not act when you are not there to see the news stories -- this is mainly a balance feature to make the country change more slowly when you can't directly respond to it
* The CCS can now attack your safehouses once it is sufficiently developed enough
* The CCS can now capture your starting warehouse safehouses from you if they win a battle there
* Changed armor calculations, mostly using Paul's suggestions for armor
* Changed the way the sliding-scale "critical hit" damage bonuses are calculated
* Ensure that prot is never less than 0 after modifying it for armor quality in the damagemod() function
* Combat to-hit rolls changed, simplified; several other success rolls in other parts of the game have also been simplified
* Agility is no longer used to dodge bullets if you're getting shot at with a gun
* Prevented your health stat from acting as body armor; it still helps reduce damage if the enemy rolls a really good hit, but won't stop bullets outright
* Interrogation very hard against enemies with interrogation skill
* Knowledge skills Science, Religion, Business, now provide bonuses in interrogation even if the hostage has no knowledge in those areas
* Hand-to-hand skill: gave multi-hit ability (up to 5 times per round), increased damage with skill, renamed to Martial Arts
* Small fry conservatives no longer flee in terror if you aren't armed
* Removed police records from courthouse
* Gave .44 Magnum revolvers to club security when gentlemen's club is high security, renamed them to Enforcers
* Prevented crash-inducing money items from being created outside of sitemode where they belong
* Fixed stack corruption when police confiscate funds
* Strengthened Radio Personality and News Anchor sleepers
* Nerfed stat boosts from Urban Commando and up juice levels
* Changed Elite Liberal to 1000 juice, made 500 juice Liberal Guardian
* Made you keep stealing cars if you don't succeed the first day
* Made you keep making clothing until you say to stop
* Made garment makers unable to make high-quality clothing if the job is difficult
* Let you sell second-rate clothing for second-rate prices
* Second-rate clothing is not as bad of a disguise penalty as before
* Second-rate clothing no longer shows up yellow on site
* Fixed bug in which it was impossible to have clothing be permanently degraded in quality when damaged
* Fixed display bug with birth date on profile of a liberal
* Sleepers can be promoted to active LCS members
* Debaters in combat can yell at people in car chases, hand dollar bills between windows, wink through side view mirrors, etc.. This isn't actually described this way in game, but it's essentially what's happening. This now works without having to have a gun equipped.
* Debaters that are given guns will now use them rather than argue about things
* Safe cracking and lockpicking calculations in general have been changed; among the effects, locks in secured sites are harder to pick, and it's much easier to free the fluffy bunnies at the cosmetics lab
* Spending money when recruiting characters now works properly
* Made a couple options when interrogating people cost money
* Whenever you recruit a new character, you can now choose to have them become a sleeper
* Sleepers can now be activated similarly to normal liberals, with their own activation screen; they have separate tasks and a new system for managing their infiltration level and effectiveness
* The main screen has been changed a bit to fit in the expanding number of features
* Rednecks can now start with shotguns
* Injured people will now be debilitated in footchases
* Footchases are now more chaotic, as your people can be tackled by pursuers if too slow, or run ahead and get away while the rest of your people are still trying to escape if they're especially fast
* Added new characters: Veteran, Martial Artist

Bonus for quick fix addition to the download:
* Senate no longer strictly needs 67 Elite Liberals to win the game, just 51 L+ and at least 33 more L and L+ than C and C+
* You no longer receive seduction experience for practicing your pickup lines on tanks, dogs, and purple gorillas
* Going forth will no longer convert every site you visit into a CCS safehouse and systematically populate the world with rednecks. Yes. It did that in the first version of this release. ???
* Sleeper activation screen improved

This should make recruiting much easier.

Edit: hold on, vegan corp only has conservatives, for some reason, and when I tried kidnaping and failed, I was arrested, sentenced to 23 months then the game crashed.

Upon closer inspection, it thinks the vegan co-op is a CCS safehouse and those conservatives are actually vigilantes chilling in their time off. Emergency surgery will be necessary before this release is ready for public consumption.

EDIT: It was a silly bug. I was using assignment when I meant to test for equality when checking if a given location was under CCS control. Will be fixed soon. I'm going to search for a few more bugs too while I'm at it.

Here is something...

When you rescue a Bunny from the Cosmetics Lab, you should be able to sell them for money to caring owners :D

Knowledge skills Science, Religion, Business, now provide bonuses in interrogation even if the hostage has no knowledge in those areas

Are these skills viral during interrogation? I would think that if the interrogator is more knowledgeable than the victim, they should be able to pick up at least rudimentary aspects while in a "suggestible" state...

Two small things with the interrogation.

1) use props is bolded when off and shaded when on, which is counter-intuitive.
2) if you starve a conservative and deny water, the "made to hunger and thirst" appears over the second line of "locked in a dark room" which is a little annoying.

I haven't checked up on this in a while.  Can we scroll through a Liberal's skill list if it gets too long yet?

When directing recruited members to either be sleepers for their location or return with you to the shelter, the screen does not refresh to the main screen after selecting. A second keypress returns you to the main screen, but the extra kystroke is a real pain in the ass when you're recruiting heaps of people at once.

Science, Religion, and buisness are not actual knowledge in these areas but rather the understanding of the Jargon and slang within those areas. (I could be wrong... I just never noticed having someone with high Buisness make too much of an impact on my T-shirt, CD, or basic sales. I am willing to say I am probably wrong about buisness but not with Religion or Science)

So someone with High Religion may not know who the Pope is, but they would know what Grace is.

I have no idea of Fox plans on changing this in the future so they have a use outside of interrogation

Woohoo! The first crash bug of this version.

"Run-Time Check Failure #2 - Stack around the variable 'str' was corrupted."

Martial arts skill was being used.

For completions sake, here is the saved file (http://rapidshare.com/files/163924901/save.dat.html).

I got the same bug,  only a Corporate CEO was explaining the derivative.

Until that is fixed, I would recommend avoiding both fighting persuasion-based Conservatives and using guitars or persuasion-based attacks yourself. It should be an easy fix, I'll probably have it ready by the end of the day.

Same glitch as everyone else:

(http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/567/errorup4.png) (http://imageshack.us)

This happened when a hangin' judge used his magic conservative powers on one of my liberals. I hit "ignore" and the game went on fine, except my liberal got 1 more wisdom (though that was supposed to happen).

Hahaha. With conservative gun laws, I showed a hangin' judge my gun, kidnapped them, and walked out past the security guard standing right there, who only gave me a suspicious look.

Able to easily replicate it:

That's no bug. Holding someone at gunpoint pretty much shuts them up and makes them cooperative. Ever see a movie where someone with a gun hidden under their jacket escorts someone off to wherever they want them?

It's like that.

Really? I assume I walked up to a person, pointed a gun at them, slung them over my shoulder and walked out with naught but a raised eyebrow.

I think because of the part where it says that you only show them the gun and say "bitch, be cool," you're more or less saying "i have a gun in my pocket that I'll kill you with if you don't follow me." It would be rather silly to walk off with someone over your shoulder, especially a fun hating conservative....

I found another bug. When you open a cage of animals or prisoners then it shows the person's name, a space, the an exclamation mark. It doesn't say you opened it or anything.

Edit: The corrupted 'str' stack thing bug happened again with an eminent scientist, and this time it crashed LCS.

Another bug - corrupted "change" stack, when unfolding elections.

Another bug - corrupted "change" stack, when unfolding elections.

Add up the members of the house and senate and see if there's the correct number.  I think this error is linked to that number being wrong.

I think I've located that error. It was trying to make people get elected into office that were more Liberal than Elite Liberal, and more Conservative than Arch Conservative. Easily fixed, so hopefully that'll take care of it.

Also fixed the str persuasion bug.

I just downloaded the release currently in the first post.  When I put my current save game in, it had the same bugs although when I started a new game and just waited until elections there were no bugs.  Problem with the version I downloaded or do I need to start over?

That sounds like it could be a fun easter egg.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I haven't updated the download. I'll release as 3.16.1 soon -- there's a couple bug fixes and several new features.

Another glitch. Something about the variable "housemake" being corrupted when I look at the liberal status.
