I found a some easter eggs in adventure mode. Basically, if you check certain things when you're dead you get special messages.
W(Weather) : "There is no sunlight when you are dead"
D(Date/Time): "You've lost track of time since your death"
P(Temperature): "Being dead is cold and clammy"
I wonder how long these have been in the game for?
-
Not sure if their easter eggs or not, but they are funny. ;)
First time I found them was back in one of the July '08 releases... then again, that was the first time I played DF... and I'm not so sure - it may or may not have been implemented then. :P
I have bad memory. XP
-
Yes those were there for a long time.
There's only a few known easter eggs, all of them in the wiki.
-
What are the others?

Here you go. (http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Easter_eggs)
Bear in mind there may be more.

The 'glowing pit' thing is... very... very creepy...

The link said it would spoil stuff for you. Now that experience is ruined :'(
I here about people's first, surprise encounters with those, and I sigh and wish I hadn't seen it coming the first time I encountered it.
-
Well, I don't play in DF mode very often (that's why my mod wasn't heavily geared/tested in that mode). I think I might start one up again though...
-
You can check the main import and export goods in the civilization screen in Fortress Mode.
If you're hostile with the Kobolds and/or the Goblins (which is most likely the case), these "goods" are pretty funny. This should count as an easter egg, too.
I have no idea what the screen shows if you're at war with the elves or the humans. Someone could check this?
-
Yeah, that should be on the easter egg list. My brother has been playing longer than I have and he only noticed that a couple of weeks ago. I had to point it out to him.
-
Hmm... There must be more easter eggs than just on that list. I'll change the title of the thread in order to root out some more.
-
Shouldn't we call these dwarf eggs?

Are humans called Easters? No.

No but there are people called Easterners! So thats where easter eggs come from...

That would be eastern egg.

That was probably just lost in translation. Alot of stuff from the east is lost in translation.

There is a small "Easter Egg", if you can call it that when trying to make electrum from the manager screen.
I think you only have to type as much as "make elec"
-
I dont get it, what is soposed to happen?
-
I dont get it, what is soposed to happen?
Try it and see. It's a good one if you've played D&D.
-
I dont get it, I can make electrum bars out of electrum bars?
I guess thats a big one with D&D fans...
-
Oh, wait, actually it's "smelt electrum."
Firefox thinks that's not a word! Grr . . . what does it think is a word?

Oh, now I see! Someone needs to add that to the wiki.
-
There's also the "Helpless or Hopeless?" page you get from pressing "?" too many times. I've managed to get there accidentally when my right hand is one key off and I'm trying to go through a whole bunch of z-levels.
-
Back in 2D DF you used to get messages by scrolling too far. Not sure if they still work.
-
I play D&D and I don't get it.
Mind explaining?

I'm not really sure myself; it's just that I showed it to my brother, who is the one that plays it, and he thought it was funny. Not rolling on the floor funny, just "heh" funny.

I know there was a comment on it in the 3.5 DM's guide but other then that I don't get it.
Oh well.
-
I've never played D&D, and i really don't get it. You can make any alloy from bars. Sure, it looks a little odd "Make electrum bars (use bars)", but so what? I do recall reading that in the 2D version you couldn't make electrum until the Dungeon Master arrives. (I started after 3D came out.)
-
Goblin Civ Trade
Exports: TERROR
Imports: VENGANCE

You type "smelt electrum" not "make electrum." It has to be "smelt," or you're doing it wrong.

Goblin Civ Trade

Yup, but really it should be:
Exports: TERROR, IRON, GIANT CAVE SPIDER SILK
Imports: VENGANCE, BOLTS

Gobbo: Oh, Hey, the caravan is here.
Trader: Hey Gobbos
Gobbo: You got our Vengeance and bolts?
Trader: Sorry, fresh outta vengeance, sold it all to the elves, but we got PAIN! POW POW POW POW POW! THEIRS YOUR BOLTS GREENY! POW POW POW POW!
-
there's another minor easter egg when you try to trade traders stuff without offering them anything and vice versa.
-
Tentacle HFS have a "peirce" attack.
'nuff said.

They're also all male, I never even noticed that sphere thing before. I Wonder what exactly was going through Toady_One's mind when he made this or if he even made this at all. Oh well, I guess every awesome game needs some sorta sexual reference, either that or it was to make up for spore reproduction.
-
Creamcorn, you are looking too hard. You also want to see that. It's not there. It's just your imagination.
-
Yeah, the tentacle demon's tentacles are tipped in CLAWS.
So, yeah.

So their like cats? (If you dont understand go look for cat anatomy)
-
There was one where you could see the bucket go up and down in a well when it is used. I don't know wether it still exists though.
-
If you hit the Seize button on the trade screen without selecting any items to seize, the trader will think you're joking and has a different reaction depending on their race.
-
Oh, and the Tentacle HFS pits are covered in puddles of a white "unknown substance."
-
Does the number of starting dwarves you have count? It didn't even occur to me until my sister pointed it out, but is it just a coincidence you start with seven dwarves? ;D

Yeah I've noticed that one day two, I just wonder where the pasty white human with the apple is.
-
The moment my brother told me that you embark with seven dwarves, I got the reference. Which is weird, 'cause I don't like most Disney stuff.
-

It still does. The rope shows up as a | of whatever color material you used, and the bucket shows up one level below the lowest |. Tis cool.

That's... that's... just wrong... so wrong...

Nooooooooo!
Uh, anyway, enough thread derail.
Not so much an easter egg, but isn't it strange that Elves have no problem devouring sapient beings, but find harming plants unthinkable? Even stranger that they don't care if you set their forest on fire.
-
Nothing strange here. They eat those killed by them since thus they excuse for the killing (eating like natural hunters who kill for food only). They detest any kind of "processed food" because it's so unnatural.
-
Also, if you don't want an elf to eat you, you can cut off his arms. What can a plant do to stop you from eating it?
-
Poison you (in many wonderful ways!) ;D
-
Poison you (in many wonderful ways!) ;D
By being eaten by you? Well, the threat of poison would keep you from eating it. Bad taste would work the same way. Thorns, a bad smell, symbiotic relationship with something that will chase you away, a hard outer layer would all stop you from eating it without involving being eaten once.
-
Which is more like DF? A Dwarf slowly being melted from the inside out by a plant he thought was harmless, or a dwarf avoiding a plant because it smells bad. :P

Both of those combined.
-
Good point ;D All this proves of course, that plants can (in real life and probably DF once poisons are implemented) defend themselves. Hell, I bet the elves will probably poison their arrows, and STILL refuse to trade for the plant they need to make the poison. They're just sizeist bastards :P

I say we use their arrows against them in an elaborate labrynth trap.
-
symbiotic relationship with something that will chase you away,
Well, technically, that's just what the whole Elf thing... well, IS.
