Title: Overkill?
Post by: AlienChickenPie on January 08, 2009, 02:21:29 pm
I jumped into a river to give some fish a taste of my axe, and this was the result:

I found it weird, because I always see one body-part-disintegrating-message when I land the final blow.

I stayed in the river, practicing the noble sport of throwing wolf bones at fish. Then, the snap freeze came and took me out, along with some 104 fish.
Losing is fun.

"The pike has been struck down" is a COLOSSAL understatement.

"The pike has been struck down" is a COLOSSAL understatement.

The pike has been struck down so hard all spears in the nearby towns shattered with overkill.

Did it's lower body just explode in gore three times?

Four. This is one smashed fish...
The Pike explodes into a can of paste!

Five times, actually.

If only fish were this weak in Fortress mode.

It's hard not to be weak when under attack from a talented axeman. That being said, I dared not engage the large school of fish, at least not directly. I just chased them, through bones in their general direction and finished off the fish that got hit and couldn't keep up.

They are.

The problem is that in Fortress mode Dwarves are so stupid that they go in to tackle fish and end up in the water... where they drown or get killed.

Their bite is powerful relative to a Dwarf's fist... However it isn't more powerful then any other bite in the game... even the Dwarves own (remember the Dwarf who bit someone's head off?)

One reason why i wish Tarn would make it so all of em start out learning how to swim. I mean, they're at least in their 20s at start, they should dang well know how to swim.

Dwarves can't swim, they've got too high of a bone density! if you let them swim youre reducing that, and that cuts out their damblock:1. ...unless you dont care about that sort of realistic balancing and just want to mod the raws <.<

Dwarven beards can gain a form of buoyancy based on the amount of water that passes through it, collecting particles of air and whatnot.

What's next? Beards usable as a third arm, ala a D&D spell I read about but can't recall at the moment?

On second thought, I must do this.
Mephisto withdraws from society!

It was stated in the Wiki that dwarves catch fish with their beards, so I don't see why this is such a strange leap.

A nicely woven beard makes a fine net.

You hit the fish, the head is smashed into the body, the upper body collapses and the lower body explodes...

You hit the fish so hard it's head came out it's ass? You turned a fish inside-out with an axe. BADASS.

i made salamanders, who are bad-ass wrestlers because if they hold onto someone long enough, they will burn. And if they rip any clothes more flammable than bone off, they burst into flames, along with most limbs (which can then be used as flaming projectiles)
I threw a wing back at the harpy it came from, which made it burst into flames and knocked it off a ledge into a lake filled with angry pike/lampreys who proceeded to shred, disembowel, and generally destroy her.
She vomitted a lot.
A LOT.
I feel special : D

I take offense to the thread tittle.
"There is no such  thing as overkill . . ."

Besides, the pike deserved it.

"...only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload.'"

;D I am so looking forward to the ability to add in corbosilicate amorphs. Think the raws will work for it next update?

I do not look forward to being eaten by a pile of sentient poop with enough firepower to make North Korea blush and eyes.

The eyes disturb me the most about being eaten by a pile of sentient poop.

That seems a bit odd.  I'd expect it to be the getting fatally digested that would disturb you the most.

It keeps it's spare eyes inside, so it can watch you being digested.
